Starting a file download upon command

I'm new at this, so I'm hoping your brilliant minds can figure out the error that seems to be here.
I'm trying to figure out why a file is not downloading upon command from a webpage. I did not write this code, and I'm thinking that it does not actually cause the file in question to start download, but trys to open it as if it is another HTML file (the "window.open" command).
Anyone know what I can enter into the html document to correct this and start the file downloading to the user?
Thanks!
Mark

While there are people here who know Javascript, you might have better luck getting your Javascript questions answered ina Javascript forum.
This is a Java forum, and the two are not the same, or even really related.

  • Starting file sharing at command line

How does one start personal file sharing from the command line? I'd like to do this remotely. The command /usr/sbin/applefileserver does not work inspite of web posts to the contrary. Thanks.

OK, I found something. On the Mac from which I want to export, ps -A doesn't show AppleFIleServer when it's started from the command line but does when started from the GUI. On a brand new Mac, on which I wanted to mount the share, the process shows up regardless of how its started. (I had turned off both firewalls when I did this so I may come back to this question....) Both systems are 10.4.4. Any ideas? Can I selectively reinstall this package and if so, how?
The only thing in system.log is the call and no error:
    configd[29]: executing /usr/sbin/AppleFileServer
BTW the sharing GUI does update the status of applefilesserver daemon although I seem to recall that controlling apache with the command apachectl doesn't update the Web Sharing GUI. anyway....
    Thanks for your help.

  • Why are mysterious dk.html files automatically downloading upon launch of newly updated Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2)?

Why are mysterious dk.html files automatically downloading upon launch of newly updated Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2)?  I updated last night and ever since, these files download as soon as I launch Safari.

I've gotten these from multiple web sites, including Drudge and National Journal.
It is my opinion that this behavior is a side effect of the latest Java update. Until this latest update, Apple has maintained its own version of Java. The latest update is Oracle Java.
Apple's note on the Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 11 includes this:
On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.
Looking at the innards of one file downloaded, it appears to be a JavaScript beacon from advertising.com for rubiconproject.com. These files are used to track web browsing activity. I suspect that this Java changed the way the beacon is served and Safari.

  • TS3212 I get the file download window and I push "run", but after it starts to install, I get a window that says that they was a problem with the installation and I need to check with the manufacturer of my software. WHat does that mean?

I get to the file download window to install itunes and push run, but after it starts to install, it stops and I get an error message that installation can no continue and everything is uninstalled. It tells me to check with my software company to resolve. What does that mean?

    Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install

  • Force flash to open file download box in front of the flash movie

    Folks,
I'm making a dvd title using flash to auto start when people
    pops the dvd disc in.
I have a button 'Click here to download the movie' and
clicking the button should pop up a file download box so people can
save the movie file(.mov) to their desktop.
Problem is that the file download box shows up behind the
flash movie so people won't be able to see the download box since
it's hidden behind the flash. This is critical since I intend the
flash to open as a full-screen mode.
Is there a way to force the flash to open the download box in
    front of the flash movie?
I tried getURL and fscommand ("exec", "filename.exe") and
even fileReference commands to try different way of linking the
movie file, and they all open download box behind the flash.
    Please help~~~

Please do not post the same topic in multiple forums. The
only thing I can suggest is when they click on the button to
download, you take flash out of full screen while they download the
video, you can use fileReference to control and monitor the
download. Use a listener object to monitor when download is
complete, then set flash back to full screen.
How are you scripting the full screen?

  • File Ownership via Command Line

Hello - oh my I went and did a stupid thing. I renamed my home folder and restarted which logged me as a brand new user. I can see my previous folder in the Users folder with all of it's files and everything is there - but I can't access it through the log-in pane.
I have been told by more than a couple of mac stores that it will require 5-7 days to fix... however I googled it and found one specific document on what to do at the command level to fix this. I need assistance from anyone who knows the right syntax in which to do this. I have started by making a backup of all the original home files I want to keep. This is what I found on-line...
    "Changing File Ownership: chown
The chown command is used to change the ownership of files. Only the root user can execute the chown command. The simplest form, and the one in which you'll end up using it the most frequently, is chown <username> <filename> , which changes the ownership property of <filename> to belong to the user <username> . The command can optionally be given as chown <username> : <groupname> <filename> to change the user and group at the same time. Additionally, -R can be specified after the command to cause a recursive change in an entire directory, instead of to a single file. The command documentation table is shown in Table 24.1"
Can someone show me how the command line should look as I proceed with this?
    Thank you very much.
    -Derek

Actually, I was thinking about being even more cautious (being there, done that, ain't pleasant).
Let me make sure I understand where you are:
1/ you have only one login, it's your new name, but the Home associated with it is empty (has all the "regular" folders that come with the creation of a new account)
2/ your old account cannot be accessed upon login but you "ex" home is still there and you have access to it
If that's right, then do 2 things
1/ create a new admin account. Call it whatever you want. In case of anything, you'll still have one with admin privileges. You may want to keep it for the future. It's always a good idea to have such an account, never used but for troubleshooting, where the Preferences are pristine.
2/ start copying (not moving) what you had in your old home into your new one (you wanted that new name anyway, right?), making sure that the privileges are indeed associated with your new name. That should work as you are doing the copying from your new account.
When you are all done and have made sure that everything works, then you'll be able to delete the old folder. Or you may want to keep it around for a while.
If you have too much stuff to copy (movies, etc...), then let me know. Having the "third" account (the one I mentioned in 1) may help you. You could log in with that one, and change the names back of your homes (old and new). You would have to check what you have under Syst Pref/Accounts

Since it seemed to help some folks that were having trouble downloading the NIS updates, I have also tried downloading the updates with (winhttp) Proxy authentication on and off.
I have also tried recreating the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder (Stop wuauserv; Rename folder; Start wuauserv; Folder recreated)
Still no luck. Any help or direction you can provide is much appreciated.
    Cheers,

    Hi,
    Thank you for the post.
I did some research regarding error “0x80070005”, you may perform the following steps and see if it helps:
    Step 1: Verify DCOM security
    1. Click Start, click Run, type Dcomcnfg, and then click OK.
    2. Expand Component Services, and then expand Computers.
    3. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    4. Click the COM Security tab.
    5. Under Access Permissions, click Edit Default.
    6. Verify that the following accounts are listed:
    7. If any one of these accounts is missing in the Access Permission box, follow these steps:
    a.  Click Add, click Advanced, and then click Locations.
    b.  In the Locations box, click the Local_Computer_Name, and then click OK.
    c.  Click Find Now.
    d.  Press CTRL, click the required account names, and then click OK two times.
    e.  In the Group or User names box, click an account that you added, click Local Access in the Permissions for Account_Name box, and then click to select the check box in the Allow column.
    f.  Repeat step 7e for all the accounts that you just added, and then click OK.
Step 2: Verify DCOM default properties
    1. Click the Default Properties tab.
    2. Verify that the following configuration:
    • The Enable Distributed COM on this computer check box is selected.
    • In the Default Authentication level box, Connect is selected.
    • In the Default Impersonation level box, Identify is selected.
    3. Make any required changes, and then click OK.
    4. Restart the computer.

This should be considered a temporary fix. It will saturate your Internet connection during periods of WSUS downloads in this configuration.
The correct and permanent fix should be to resolve the failure of your perimeter device to properly support the HTTP v1.1 protocol specification (which is now some 14 years old).
Either your device is misconfigured, or it needs a firmware update to support the full specification.

  • Stop Acrobat Pro-Start up on Download

Every time I download a PDF file, Acrobat 6.0.2 Professional automatically starts up. I'd like to disable this.
I use Preview to read or print these files.
No need for Acrobat Pro right now.
The Get Info window is set to open PDFs w/ Preview, but Acrobat Pro always starts up.
    Very annoying.
    Thanks,
    KenK

You have, if I understand the situation correctly, a couple of options:
    1) you can turn off the option in most browsers to open "safe" files on download. In Safari, if that's what you use, it's a checkbox in Safari's General preferences. Then the downloaded document should not be opened automatically.
    2) you can change the application which by default opens a PDF. Click on a representative file, Get Info (Command-I or under the File menu), go to the Open With.. section, select Preview as application to open the files, and click the Change All button.
    Hope this helps.

  • Jnlp file downloads then opens in TextEdit

Have multiple Macs running 10.5.7 w/latest software update. Each trying to use the same web application. Web app downloads a .jnlp file. For most Macs, it launches Java and life is good. On a lone Mac (so far), the .jnlp file downloads, but is opened by TextEdit. Check File Info, and it's associated with TextEdit, so there's the culprit. On the working Macs, the file is associated with Java Web Start.app. So, I figured I'd change the association on the Mac that's broken, but I can't find Java Web Start.app. It doesn't show up in Spotlight, so I use the locate command in Terminal and find it listed as being found in /Applications/Java. This folder does not exist on any of the Macs in this scenario. Where is it?! How do I fix the association for .jnlp files to be Java Web Start.app?
    Thanks!

I have the same problem. After running the latest Java update, Java Web Start is gone. I have Xcode installed on my machine, but still don't have Java Web Start anywhere on my drive.
I attempted to restore it to /Applications/Utilities/Java using Time Machine, but when I launched it, it merely crashed.
I understand that part of the Java update was to patch a vulnerability that could be exploited through Java applications launched from the web, but I was under the impression that there was a fix that didn't simply involve disabling Java Web Start. Is there a new version of Java Web Start out there that doesn't crash with the new Java update? Alternately, is there a way to run a jnlp file without a working version of Java Web Start?
I have a program that I absolutely need to have running in the next 30 minutes -- which doesn't give me enough time to roll back the whole update. Is it too much to expect Apple to fix what they broke with this update?

  • TAx Reporter Temse Files Download Automation

    Hi,
I have a reuiqrement to download the Temse files generated in Tax Reporter. I have completed the code and it works fine if we run the program in foreground. But when I run the same program in background some Temse files downloaded have junk characters. If I download the same Temse file in foreground it works fine.
There seems to be some issue with the FM when I run my progam in background.
I have searched SDN and SAP Notes for any clues but did not get any.

    Hi Bhaskar,
I also have the same requirement to upload TemSe files in to application server.
In FDTA tcode after we enter company code and click on enter.
In the second screen checking and line item and go to edit and click on download button.
Here we see a popup with default file name, and when we say ok the file will get downloaded into C:\.....
Here our req is to upload the file automatically pick up via batch job and place it in the in to the application server and from there it should be placed in the Netwrok server (UNIX).
Pls provide me with suitable code so that i can finish it off.I tried a lot but did not work.
    Thanks.

    0) Explain how exactly you launch JNLP when it does not work.We have a website with a link to a jnlp file. User clicks on the link the jnlp file downloads and installs.
"install the jnlp from the dos window" - do you mean run "javaws applicationURL"?Yes. But actually that only worked because we had already installed a Java 6 version.
When it does not work do you use Deployment Toolkit to embed link into web page?

    Hi,
I consider that you can try to use xperf to collect the trace etl file and see if it can be extracted on this computer:

  • I am having problems downloading files from the web. After a number of files are downloaded, the system become sluggish, and then hangs. I traced the problem to the download history file: downloads.sqlite.

After downloading a number of 1.0 MB files, the system became very sluggish, and I started to get lots of (Not Responding) messages when trying to download or just use Firefox for browsing. Using Performance Monitor, I observed that the Firefox executable was growing larger and larger - up to as large as 1.2 GB on a system with 2.0 GB memory. Page faults were off the chart.
Looking for a similar problem, I found one that discussed the downloads.sqlite file becoming corrupted. I first noticed that this file was over 600 MB in size, so I deleted it. I then downloaded additional files, and observed that the new downloads.sqlite file would increase in size by about 150% of the size of each file that was downloaded. Once it would get up to 500 MB in size, the system started slowing down again.
I don't know the purpose of this file, but it appears that it keeps a full copy of every file downloaded, which may be the function of a download history file, but it does not seem correct that the file should grow in size without limit, and thus impact the system.
I would also appear that the Firefox executable is trying to read the entire contents of this file each time a new file is downloaded, which does not seem right.
Temporary fix is to periodically delete the downloads.sqlite file when it gets too large and starts impacting performance.. Apparently it is smart enough to open a new file if the old one is not found. I am not sure what the correct behavior for this file should be. Apparently is does not re-initialize when a new Firefox session is initiated.
Please feel free to contact me if more information is desired. I'm not sure what details you might need to troubleshoot this type of problem.

Hi Katy, and a warm welcome to the forums!
What is the exact name of the file?
    Is it aim.bin?
Which requires either Stuffit Expander, or the Unarchiver to deflate.

I know that 1247 normally covers up another error, but I don't seem to get it....
Funny thing is, when copying the jsp's to another reports server, they do run (on the same DB).

I have a rather frustrating problem on our production servers...
We are trying to start jsp files on a linux report server (10Gr2).
    The command is displayed below
    [2007/10/8 10:57:59:853] Info 50132 (EngineImpl:setCommandLine): Get command line: baseUrl=http://xxxxx:7777/reports/rwservlet/getfile/ userid=reporting@SHARED_BE USER_AGENT=Java/1.5.0_07 SERVER_NAME=xxxxxxxxx jobname="/opt/ogreports/catalog/SMC/BE-Shared/xxxx.jsp" destpath="/var/data/og/dashboard/van/sgs/001/reports/xx" getFilestr=/no> imagekey=reports9i par_end_date="01-10-2007" desname=xxxxxxxxxxx.pdf REMOTE_ADDR=127.0.0.1 SERVER_PROTOCOL=HTTP/1.1 authid=RWUser par_start_date="01-09-2007" destype=rcpfile REMOTE_HOST=127.0.0.1 SERVER_PORT=7777 CONTENT_TYPE=application/x-www-form-urlencoded report="/opt/ogreports/catalog/SMC/BE-Shared/xxx.jsp" expiredays=0 baseimageurl=http://xxxxx:7777/reports/rwservlet/getfile/HW/YX+JkD0HSAcVLzaSGilrWNAn36ufghgStsvQqfNFC7w== schedule="00:00 Oct 08, 2007" scphost="lion" desformat=pdf SCRIPT_NAME=/rwservlet par_id_project="1750"
The after paramform does some major data manipulations, writing to temporary tables (on commit preserve rows), that are used in queries from the reports.
This seems to go allright. The setup of all queries, program units etc passes as well. But when the report has to start formatting, I get a "1247 Program Unit not compiled" error message. This is an excerpt from the engine trace
