Starting and stopping SAP J2EE Engine

Hi guys,
I have downloaded and installed trial version of SAP Web Application Server (SAP Web AS) Java 6.40 for Microsoft Windows XP.
I wanted to launch SAP J2EE Engine and Software Deployment Manager (SDM) to run my web dynpro application. The Netweaver Developer studio getting started guide has a link for starting and stopping the SAP J2EE Engine but its not working for me. I get an error with the link.
Is it possible for someone to let me know how to launch J2EE engine and SDM. Also what server settings I need to make in the menu path Window -> Preferences -> SAP J2EE Engine.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mandar

Hi Ivaylo and Thomas,
Thanks for your help, It works fine. For some reason after starting my J2EE server, when I start my Netweaver developer studio, it gives the following error
   JVM Terminated Exit code=1
   c:\j2sdk1.4.2_05\bin\javaw.exe
   -Xmx512m
   -Xms128m
   -XX:PermSize=128m
   DallUserDir='C:\Documents and Setting\All users\Application Data'
   -cp C:\Program Files\SAP\JDT\eclipse\SAPStartup.jar com.sap.ide.eclipse.startup.Main
   -os win32
   -ws win32
   -arch x86
   -feature com.sap.java.ide
   -showsplash C:\Program Files\SAP\JDT\eclipse\SAPIde.exe -showsplash 600
Any idea why I get this error and how to fix it. My Netweaver Developer studio did startup few times and I did write some code in it. But now when I try to start NDS, I get the above error.
Any help will be appreciated.

Mandar

  • Starting and stoping SAP J2EE engine without using SAPMMC

    Hi All,
How can we start SAP J2EE engine without using SAPMMC.
My SAP J2EE version is 6.40.
    Kindly, help.
    Regards,
    Devender V

    hi Devender,
    if your SID = J01 system no# 00, host = hostabc
open a command prompt,..cd to this exe folder... (/usr/sap/J01/SYS/exe) just cross check if startsap existing or not.
    then run
    startsap.exe name=J01 nr=00 SAPDIAHOST=hostabc
if the PATH env variable already has a value C:\usr\sap\J01\SYS\exe then you may directly run the command from any folder.. no need to specifically go to the exe folder.
(if you need help how to set env variable in windows, http://www.cs.usask.ca/~wew036/latex/env.html)

  • Starting and stopping SAP in Unix

    Hi,
Pls tell me the command to start and stop sap in Unix.
I dont want to start and stop the Database
    Pls help

Log on in UNIX as a user with SAP administrator authorization (<sid>adm).
To start the central instance, call the shell script
startsap_<host>_<instance no> in the home directory
of the <sid>adm user. If there is only one instance for each application server, the
alias startsap points to the script startsap_<host>_<instance no>.
The script startsap first starts the saposcol process which collects statistical
data for the operating system that it provides to the SAP system.
The next step is a check to see if the database is running. If not, the script
startdb is called to start the database.
The final step starts all of the processes for the instance (message server,
dispatcher, work processes, and so on).
After the central instance is started, you can optionally start other instances.
The startsap script can be called with the following options:
    DB: starts the database system
R3: starts the instances and associated processes for the instance
ALL: starts the database system and the instance (default setting, can be omitted)
To start the SAP system, the startsap script calls the sapstart process with
the start profile specified in the script in the variable START_FILES.
The stopsap script can be called with the following options:
DB: stops the database system with the help of the stopdb script
R3: stops the instances of the SAP system
ALL: stops the database system and the instance (default setting, can be
    omitted)
The database can be stopped separately with database tools.

  • Starting and Stopping SAP Systems and Instances on Windows

Is there a way to automatically stop/start instances on windows at boot time?
I don't want to have to logon after a reboot and go into the mmc and start the app manually.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Dan ,
As Juan said it could cause problems while starting SAP at startup.
Still if you really want to implement this...
This is what I have found ... I never tried this but hope this should work.
    1. you must make sure that SAP[SID]_00 service is set to start automatically.
    2. you must edit your SAP START profile and add this line:
    Autostart=1
    3. make sure that the line you added IS NOT the last one in your file. if it is, your added parameter could be ignored.
to test this out, shutdown SAP and your database, then shutdown the SAP[SID]_00 service. now start it. open SAPMMC to see if you see any starting activity. it should work fine.
Let us know if it works.

  • How to start & stop SAP J2EE services.

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me the steps how to Start and Stop SAP J2EE operations and how to troubleshoot the problems when the Java doesn't come-up.
    Regards,
    Murali

    Hi,
    In windows,
go to SAP management console,Right click on the SID and then <b>start all tasks</b>
    similarly to stop,Right click,
    <b>stop all tasks</b>
    If it is linux machine,
switch to SIDadm user,by giving the command <b>su sidadm</b>
ex:if SID is J2E,then it will be <b>j2eadm</b>.and then it is <b>startsap</b> or <b>stopsap</b>.
    For troubleshooting,
    1.go to /usr/sap/SID/JCxx/j2ee/cluster/server0/log
    look for <b>defaulttrace.trc file.</b>
you can get to know the errors here and find teh root cause of it.
2.you can also look for <b>devp_trace</b> in SAPmanagement console.
3.Before doing all this, first check if <b>JAVA_HOME,path</b> and <b>LD_LIBRARY_PATH</b> is set properly and proper JDK is taken.
    4.check id <b>DB is up and running.</b>
    reward points if helpful

  • Automatic start and Stop the SAP System

    Hi experts,
We want to deploy the unattended/Scheduled Start SAP  and stop SAP in IBM i series. How to do it? I have tried with WRKJOBSCDE and putted the command STOPSAP or STARTSAP but after finishing the job, now result. But when I simply put command STOPSAP/STARTSAP it works(start and stop sap system).
    How to deploy it?
    Thanks
    Asad

    Hi Ken,
yes, that is correct, but in the meantime, it is **** easier ;-)
As SAPHostAgent starts automatically, it is just needed in the default profile:
    Autostart = 1
This is a really nice new feature ;-))

  • SAP J2EE Engine configuration in NWDS 7.1

    Hello everybody,
I would like to configure the SAP J2EE engine server (host and port) in NWDS 7.1.
In NWDS 7.0 I used to go in the Preference > SAP J2EE Engine and select "SAP J2EE engine is installed on a remote host" and enter the "Message server host" and "Message server port".
In NWDS 7.1, there is no "SAP J2EE Engine" in the preference and the only place where I found a field for J2EE engine was a local host only one.
How can I do in 7.1 what  was able to do in 7.0?
    Thanks in advance
    François

    Hi Fronis,
I feel you just installed NWDS CE 7.1. But there is a lenghty process to achive that. After installation of 7.1 in menu path goto help>software updates>link*(first option)>login to servicemarketplace>there are two options first select 1st after completion next select 2nd it will take long time(bcozz it will download nearly 1.7gb).
try this and let us know....

    Hi
Check that your port 80 is not occupied by other running application (eg. IIS or ITS etc.)
Also check that it may be disabled by antivirus software.
Check the services file that this port is not assigned to other application then

  • Error when starting SAP J2EE Engine Log Viewer Service

    Hi,
    I'm running SAP EP6 SP14.
I need to make the default trace log file on the WAS Server (Windows) available to the developer's. For this goal, I am attempting to install and start the SAP J2EE Engine LogViewer Service on the WAS. I think I have configured the service.ini file appropropriately. When I register the service, I get a successful message that the service has been registed. The service even shows up in the Windows Service Manager.
However, when I attempt to start the service, the process fails after a 4-minute attempt. I eventually get an error popup saying
"Could not start the SAP J2EE Engine Logviewer service on the Local Computer"
"Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".
The service shows as "starting" until I reboot the WAS.
The logviewer.bat runs fine on the WAS itself.
I can also connect from the client to the WAS thru the J2EE connection, but that requires the admin password. I'd rather get this approach to work.
    Regards,
    Kevin

    Hi,
I have the same error during starting the service. How did you resolve that error?

  • Trial version of SAP J2EE engine and Development environment for Windows

    Hello,
I am looking for a trial version of the SAP J2EE Development Environment and the corresponding SAP J2EE Engine for windows environment. I looked at the link https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-downloads. But the downloads are for the Linux environment. Are there any downloads for the Windows Environment.
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Sumit Agarwal.

    Hi Sumit,
Currently trial versions of SAP NetWeaver 2004 and 2004s (7.0) are only available for Linux.
Java EE development environment (the latest Java EE version - 5) trial versions for Windows are available in the [SAP NetWeaver CE download section|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-ce-downloads].

  • Add-on  starting and stopping using Buttons In SAP BusinessOne

    Hi,
I have a requirement that   Add-on should be  start and stop should  be done using Button.  When ever i click on Button add-on should start and  after click the button add-on should be stop...
    anyone  have any idea...
    Thanks,
    Y.

Well... stopping it is no problem, you can stop the addon with a button. But starting it with a button? What is going to place this button in B1? And what is going to handle the event of the button being pressed to start the addon?
This can't be done without creating another addon (or using an existing one) just to create the button and listen for its event. So it kind of defeats the purpose.
But all users can have access to addon manager, why not just trigger it from there, where there already are Start and Stop buttons?
