1 - He has already installed tomcat
2 - He now has it working (reply #3)
3 - Just because it works for you doesn't mean it will
work for him. You have made assumptions about where
he has installed java and tomcat.
4 - If you glance up at the first post, you will see
his java and tomcat paths included in there - they
look nothing like the stuff you gave him. Following
your instructions to the letter will only cause it to
    break.
Please try and take a bit more care.

I agree with DrClap, that beginning with Tomcat is tough. :) But still, the answer to your problem is right there before you. (But then again, it always is, and I never see the wood either.) :)
LifecycleException: null.open: java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind
I am not sure about the null.open part, which is a little bit irritating. But the address you are trying to bind your socket to, is already used by another Service. This might be the case if you have already a tomcat running, or if you have some other service installed that uses one of the ports you are attempting to use.
    Hope that helps

  • Jakarta-tomcat-3.2.1 Problem

When I start jakarta-tomcat-3.2.1 startup.sh in unix/solaris 2.6, it is ok I can access but once I exit from the screen/window, the tomcat automatically shuts down. May I know how to solve this problem?
I have tried combining apache with tomcat but my apache does not have DSO installed.
    Can anyone help?
    URGENT!

Why don't you try to install Tomcat on NT workstation 4.0? It's really easy. Let me know if you get stuck on NT version. I am not very familiar with Linux/Unix since I don't use it.

  • Help with running servlet with jakarta tomcat

I had recently created a couple of java servlets and wanted to run them. I had put the .class files in Tomcat 4.1\webapps\Root\ then typed in http://localhost:8080/ then the servlet in the web browser. Here was the error page copied and pasted. If I put http://localhost:8080/servlet.class instead of http://localhost:8080/servlet I get a popup saying do I want to download the .class file. Theres probley a simple solution to this. Anyone know of any free hosts that will host servlets for free?
    HTTP Status 404 - /servlet
    type Status report
    message /servlet
description The requested resource (/servlet) is not available.
    Apache Tomcat/4.1.18
    Thanks in advance
    George

Hi I have the compiler jdk1.1.8 and wanted to upgrade my version. I downloaded the j2sdk1.4.1_01. I have the classpath set and everything. When I attempt to compile my java servlet it gives me an error but when I compile it with jdk1.1.8 it works.
Isn't jakarta-tomcat-3.2.3 different compared the the one I have jakarta-tomcat4.1.18? Anyway thats what I read somewhere. The instructions you gave me do you think they are different because of us having different verions? I don't know if this is normal but whenever I startup my computer it just automaticly starts up tomcat server so when I put http://localhost:8080 it goes to the page saying I setup tomcat successfully. When I try to shutdown it doesn't do it.
About the classpath. I thought i'm supposed to only put one path. So if I were to do that it would look like path set TOMCAT_HOME=C:\jdk1.1.8\Program Files\Apache Group\Tomcat 4.1 Thats how I would set it on my computer. I already installed and ran tomcat. I think your right I need to check the documentation correctly.
    Thanks in advance
    George

  • Install Jakarta-tomcat for JavaBeam and JSP

    Hi folks,
I would like to setup Jakarta-tomcat so I can start learning JavaBeam and JSP programming, how do I setup it up, and where can I download Jakarta-tomcat? Do I have to purchase it or is licensing required?
    THank you.

however, i'm thinking that javabeam's must still be in some early stage of a jsr committee, and the documentation is sparse.

  • Bea Workshop JSF Tutorial - deployed app doesn't start on Tomcat 5.0

I've followed the BEA tutorial up to section 5 - Running the application.
When the application is deployed from a WAR to Tomcat the application doesn't start in Tomcat 5.0
The error message from the Tomcat console is :
INFO: Installing web application at context path /workshop-jsf-tutorial from URL

Can you advise what the error is please ?

    Ram,
Thanks for your reply. I was creating a WAR file using the Export>J2EE>WAR option.
I've since found out you shouldn't do this for Tomcat from Bea Workshop.
So now I am running the application in exploded mode as you suggested
(ie. 'Run modules directly from the workspace' is checked)
    When I run pages/register.jsp - two things happen :
1-the browser that opens WITHIN Bea Workshop has an exception :
    javax.servlet.ServletException: No faces context?!
(I believe this is because web.xml has *.jsf as the url pattern that maps to the faces servlet, so register.jsp doesn't invoke the faces servlet. But the tutorial hasn't said anything about amending the web.xml servlet mapping.)
2-a separate browser opens OUTSIDE of BEA workshop and the url is "http://localhost:8080/"
    I don't understand what's happening here.
The tutorial should be very reliable, not throw up errors.
If you or anyone else can throw any light on this I'd be grateful.
    Thanks Steve

  • Starting bundled Tomcat without Netbeans

    Hi,
I need to start the bundled Tomcat with Netbeans without actually starting Netbeans and rightcliking in Servers->Start Server eventually even put it at the startup of my computer. Anybody can help me do that?

Bundled tomcat is usually installed within the ide installation directory structure. For instance, if you are using Java Studio Enterprise 8.1, it is installed under <ide_install>/ide/enterprise2/jakarta-tomcat-5.5.9. For other ide versions, you can search the install dir for 'catalina.sh' to find out the directory.
To start the server outside the ide, move to the <tomcat_in_ide_install_dir>/bin. You should see the startup scripts/executables there.

I'm not sure why you have mentioned Tomcat, but you need to run the class with something like:
java -classpath .;D:\j2sdk1.4.2_08\jre\lib\ext\mysql-connector-java-3.1.10-bin.jar com.example.JdbcExample1If you've correctly set the CLASSPATH environment variable then you can leave out the -classpath command line argument. Notice that you must specify the package of the class too.
To compile this all correctly, you should do something like:
    mkdir classes
javac -d classes JdbcExample1.javaand then run with
    java -classpath classes;D:\j2sdk1.4.2_08\jre\lib\ext\mysql-connector-java-3.1.10-bin.jar com.example.JdbcExample1

    Hello:
I overcame the above issue by changing index.html to index.jsp, but now i am facing another issue as shown below:
On top of the above change i too included j2ee.jar (from websphere) in the classpath to overcome the below issue, but even then i am getting the same error.

         myEclipse - EnterpriseWorkbenchInstaller_4.0GA_E3.1
         jakarta-tomcat-5.0.28 (Application Server)
Sysdeo Eclipse Tomcat Launcher plugin - tomcatPluginV31beta
         SDK 1.4.2_08
         Microsoft XP sp2 operating system
I have no issue with creation of project structure in eclipse IDE, compilation, and deployment, but there are some exception upon running the application.
My project folder structure as follows:
    MyApplication/
    src/
    Conf/
    Web/
    classes
    taglib
    lib
    web.xml
my application has few dependent projects, therefore I copied all the dependent projects final compiled classes (jars) to lib folder.
I set all necessary classpath according to tomcat documentation.
I created MyApplication.xml file under D:\jakarta-tomcat-5.0.28\conf\Catalina\localhost\ folder with the below context
