Starting one process from another

Hi,
I want to wite a program which starts 2 java processes.
One way is like , start.bat is a batch file , which contains two commands as ,
start.bat
java start_program_1
java start_program_2
Use exec command to run batch file.
I tried doing this , but batch file is not called.
Can any one help me out.
Thanx.

I understand now but, still, how can you be sure there's a problem with the command prompt?
Let me try to explain better:
When Runtime.exec() executes it returns a new Process object.
This Process object does not use the same streams as your calling program. Instead it uses three new streams which can be obtained by calling Process.getInputStream(), Process.getOutputStream() and Process.getErrorStream(). (I believe the names are from the caller's point of view, i.e. in is actually out and vice versa) Before you can conclude there's something wrong with your system please try to read data from these streams.
It is normal not to see anything in System.out and System.err. They are not being used at all by the called process!
Finally be sure your caller process waits for the subprocess to finish before it terminates. Use Process.waitFor()

  • Start one VI from another

    Hi everybody,
    I want to start a VI so that the original VI keeps running! If I use a
    Sub VI the Main VI waits until the SubVI has finished. I can start the
    second VI manually so that both VIs run simultaniously. How can I start
    the second VI from the first???
    Regards
    Martin
    [See first answer for additional information]

    If you start the second VI from within a loop of the first, then that loop
    will not proceed to the next iteration until the second VI finishes. If you
    simply want both VIs to start running at the same time, you can put the
    second VI outside the loop in your first VI.
    Alternatively, you can use VI server to load the VI into memory, open its
    front panel and run it at an arbitrary time after the first VI starts, but
    the first method is simpler if you don't need the extra flexibility.

  • Calling BPM Sub Process from another BPM Process - Stuck at Sub Process

    Hi
    JDeveloper 11.1.1.6, BPM 11.1.1.6, WLS 10.3.6
    I am trying to Call a BPM Process from another BPM Process. Both the processes are defined in the same BPM Project.
    Both the Processes have 'None' Start and End activities.
    The 'Parent Process' has a 'Call Activity' which calls the 'Sub Process'.
    The Sub process takes a parameter of payload object as input and returns output (also same payload object)
    I have passed the payload object from parent to sub process in the 'Data Associations'.
    The Start and End activities in the sub process also have the data associations set where I am passing the payload object from parent process to child process.
    When I run the process and see the Enterprise Manager console - Audit Trail / Flow tabs,
    Flow Tab - The progress of the process is showing only till the Calling of the sub process in the Parent Process. It does not show the Sub Process.
    Audit Trail Tab - Shows that the Sub Process is called but has not reached to the End of the Sub process.
    The audit trail does not have links to the sub process activities.
    I cannot see any exceptions as well in the audit trail.
    How can I find out why the process is stuck? Or what is going on in the process?
    Please let me know if my explanation is not clear?
    Thanks for any help
    Regards
    Sameer

    Thanks for replying.
    I have another Sub Process with Start and End events as Message Events and used Send Task and Receive Task (Implementation : Process Call) in the Main process to invoke the sub process asynchronously.
    Then, the Sub Process is shown in the 'Flow Trace' as child of the main process.
    In this particular one, I used 'Call Activity' to call the sub process.
    So the Audit trail is showing the sub process as a child.
    But what I was trying to say is that the audit trail did not have links to the entries in the 'Event' column (in Enterprice manager - instance window). (like Instance entered activity, Instance left activity etc).
    I was intending to use these links to see the payload information and try to debug if there is any problem with the code.
    The actual problem I was trying to say in the post is that, even after the user responds to the activity (User Task - Approval) in the Sub process,
    the audit trail is not proceeding further.
    In the Sub process definition, after the user task, there is End with none implementation.
    Hope it is clear now.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Can I Call method on one JVM from another through a dll?

    Let me explain.
    I have this java jar file that I can only have one instance of running at any given time. I'm using a shared data segment in a dll to store a bool indicating whether the program is already running or not. If it's already running, I have to not run the second instance and give focus to the current running instance.
    The jar file calls a native method "canInstantiate()" on a dll to see if there's already an app running. If there isn't, the env and obj are stored in the shared data segment of the dll and we return true. If there is already an instance of the program running, I want canInstantiate call a function on the current instance of the jar (like a callback) to tell it to request focus. It's not working. Can someone tell me if my code is right?

    Can I Call method on one JVM from another through a dll
    ...The rest of your question merely expands on your title.
    And the answer to that question is no.
    When you call a method you are executing a "thread of execution." A thread of execution exists only in a single process. It can not exist in another process.
    If the dll is doing some interesting things then you could call a method that sets a flag. Data can move between instances. But you would then have to have a thread in that different process monitoring that flag. And sharing data in a dll is not a normal process, so it would have to be coded appropriately.
    If all you want to do is set the current focus to the existing application, then that can be done with existing windows functionality. You don't need to do anything special in your dll. You can probably search these forums to find the exact code. If not there are countless examples in windows repositories (like MSDN) on how to do that.

  • How to update one table from another

    I am creating scripts in Oracle 10g. I have a table that has data corruption on three date fields.
    I created a table with the following sql of all the affected rows:
    CREATE TABLE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE AS
    select request_id,received_date,planned_start_date, actual_start_date

    OR planned_start_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
    OR actual_start_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
    I then repaired all of the rows with three data fixes
    UPDATE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE
    SET received_date = TO_CHAR(received_date,'YY-MON') ||'-'||(TO_CHAR(received_date,'RRRR') + 2000)
    where received_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
    UPDATE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE

    UPDATE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE

    where actual_start_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
    I now want to update the original base table with the corrected data so I wrote the following SQL UPDATE command:
    UPDATE lsu_inter2_requests_t aaa
    SET aaa.received_date = bbb.received_date
    FROM LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE bbb WHERE aaa.request_id = bbb.request_id
    When I run this sql Oracle returns the error “ORA-00933 SQL command not properly ended.” How do I update multiple rows in one table from another table that share the same primary key?

    When you want to produce a DATE datatype when starting with a string,
    you must use TO_DATE() on the SET line!
    (TO_CHAR(received_date,'RRRR') + 2000)since when do you do add characters (from TO_CHAR) with a constant number (2000)?
    You should NEVER EVER rely on implicit datatype conversion

  • How to notify one subprocess from another subprocess

    Hi All
    I have a situation in which I need to notify one sub process from another sub process.e.g
    Let say Parent Process is - A
    First Child Process of A - a1 (Subprocess)
    Second Child Process of A - a2 (Subprocess)
    I have created Correlation for both the sub process. Now when I try to find a1(Subprocess) from an activity which is in a2(Subprocess), I am not able to do this.
    Code that I have used from a2(Subprocess) to notify a1(Subprocess) is as follows
    instanceId = Correlation.findInstanceBy(name : "a1Subprocess", values : {"a"});
    if(instanceId!=null){
    Notification.send(instanceId : instanceId, activityName : "TerminateA1", parameters : null);
    where "a1Subprocess" is Correlation name of a1(Subprocess) and "TerminateA1" is a NotificationWait activity in a1(Subprocess).
    Question is how can I correctly notify a1(Subprocess) from a2(Subprocess).
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    There's another thread on this forum where I posted an answer to this today. Take a look at that.
    I'll admit that this is challenging (one of my simple 8 step processes), so I posted a working Oracle 10g Studio project example that has a split with notifications going between the child siblings. In the example on [Notification between siblings inside a Split activity|http://www.4shared.com/file/95299867/e7705994/CorrelationNotificationBetweenSplitSiblings.html] you'll see that this example aborts the sibling's instance (in the Interactive after the Notification Wait (now called Message Wait). Change the logic in this to suit your needs.
    Hope this helps,
    Dan

  • Terminate one subprocess from another subproces

    Hi All
    I have a scenario in which there are two sub processes running in parallel and I want to terminate one sub process from another one for e.g.
    Let say Parent Process is - A
    First Child Process of A - a1 (Subprocess)
    Second Child Process of A - a2 (Subprocess)
    Now on a particular condition on a2(Subprocess) I need to terminate a1(Subprocess) and vice-versa.
    I had created correlation for both the sub processes.
    Solution I thought was that subprocess a2 should listen for notification from a1 for termination. But this is not feasible as subprocess a2 could be in any state and I don't know where to wait.
    Also how can a process be terminated as I am not able to find any api for process instance termination.
    Thanks in anticipation

    Hi,
    You'd use logic like this to send a notification from one of your subprocesses to the target subprocess you're trying to terminate. In this example, it's important that you realize:
    1. The name of the target in this example is "TargetProcessToNotifyWithCorrelation". Change this to your target process's name and be sure to put the "\" in front of it.
    2. The name of the Notification Wait (now Message Wait for Oracle BPM 10g). ) activity in the target process in this example is "WaitForNotification". Right mouse click click the Nofication Wait activity in the target process -> Properties -> and note the "Activity id" name in the read only field at the top of the dialog box. A common mistake is to use the name with the space characters for this parameter (e.g. "Wait for Notification").
    3. The name of the Notification Wait activity's argument mapping in the target process is "In" in this example (the default for Oracle BPM 10g). Determine the name of the mapping in your target process's Notifcation Wait activity by right mouse clicking the activity -> "Argument Mapping" -> note the name highlighted in the upper left hand corner of the dialog.
    4. This assumes that you have already set up the Correlation in the target process before this notification is sent. In the example logic below, I used the customerId as the correlation (use the "initiate" method in the Fuego.Lib.Correlation).
    5. Both subprocesses have in this example the same "customerId" passed into them from their parent process. This way the two subprocesses know that they are siblings and can notify each other if necessary.
    6. It's easier if the two subprocesses where the two sibling instances reside are in different processes (e.g. one goes into the process "Check Credit" and the other sibling goes into the process "Check Inventory"). The reason is because correlations are like primary keys in a database table. They provide an easy way for notifications like this to be sent from outside a process either via PAPI or PBL using information that someone outside the target process can easily obtain (e.g. "customerId"). For every process, you can only have one correlation based on the customerId "227". If both siblings were in the "Check Credit" process, you'd get a runtime error when you tried to create the correlation based on 227. There's a way around this, but it would be easier if you just made sure that the siblings were in different processes. That way they could both use the same unique id and both are aware of what that id is (the value stored in customerId in this example) so they could easily send each other notifications.
    7. The Notification Wait in the target process's correlation is set to wait for the argument "customerIdArg" in this example. Change this to match the correlation you've already created.
    8. The editor for the OTN forum drives me nuts. While it's common in code to have open and close square brackets, if you do this in code snippets in this editor it changes the text to either disappear or underline (thinks I wanted a link). The sloppy way I worked around this in the logic below is to type the text "open square bracket" and "close square bracket" in the comment above the line that you'll see presented incorrectly
    <pre class="jive-pre"><font color="navy">// set up the associative array (a hash table)
    // - this next line of logic should instead read:
    // "any as Any open square bracket Any close square bracket"
    args as Any[Any]
    // Set the value to the argument to be received in the Notifcation Wait
    // by populating the associative array
    // - this next line of logic should read:
    // args open square bracket "customerIdArg" close square bracket = customerId
    // - leave the double quotes around "customerIdArg" or you'll get a syntax error
    args["customerIdArg"] = customerId
    send Notification
    using processId = "/TargetProcessToNotifyWithCorrelation",
    activityName = "WaitForNotification",
    arguments = args,
    argumentSetName = "In"</font></pre>
    Hope this helps,
    Dan

  • Calling one script from another

    InDesign has a nice mechanism for calling one script from another, so code can be made modular. What about FrameMaker ExtendScript? What methods are people using to call one script from another? Thanks for any suggestions.
    Rick Quatro

    Hi Trevor,
    Note that ExtendScript is Javascript plus FM objects and methods, so you need to stick to Javascript syntax rules. The right way to include another script source is as follows:
    #include "scriptname.jsx";
    If this works when running the main script from the ESTK, you know it finds the included script. When you then Export the script to Binary (from the File menu of the ESTK), the binary will include the embedded script as well. After this you have a jsxbin file, which you can drop into one of the two available startup folders to make it fire automatically when FM starts. Or you can move it anywhere else and run it via the File > Script > Run command. The main idea here is that when compiling a script into binary format, all include references are resolved and the script contains the complete code. If you run the jsx, the script is interpreted and requires a correct relative reference to any included script.
    I hope this clarifies things a little
    Ciao

  • Update column in one table from another

    I've got two tables:
    t1:
    con_num
    con_code
    ex
    elin
    addressee
    a few other columns
    t2:
    con_num
    con_code
    elin
    addressee
    contact
    a few other columns
    I just got about 300 rows into t2 using sqlloader, and now I need to use t2 to update t1. t1 will have 3 rows per ex||elin, but t2 can have more or less rows per elin (which is the same as ex||elin in t1). If t2 has 4 rows per one elin, then that is 4 distinct pieces of data, and I need to make sure that t1 reflects 4 rows in its ex||elin, each containing the addressee||contact from t2. So I'll need to add a row to t1, as well as update 3 rows. Is this possible with just SQL, or do I need to write PL/SQL?
    The following is the code I've been trying:
    update t1
    set t1.addressee =
    (select addressee from t2
    where t2.con_num = 'number'
    and t1.con_code = t2.con_code
    and t1.ex ||t1.elin_num = t2.elin_num)
    This code is not correct, it returns more than one row from t2. Also, I'd need to concatenate contact onto addressee with a space in the middle, not just addressee, into t1.addressee.
    Any ideas, pointers?
    Thanks!

    Forgot some info: Ora8.1.5 on win2kpro. Also, I was wanting to combine addressee||contact in the insert/update statement to differentiate one addressee from another in t1 after the data is inserted. We can have several addressees that are the same, but each one goes to a different contact for each record.
    Thanks!

  • How to call one .SWF from another?

    How do I call one .SWF from another. I built a very beefy
    base .SWF, and want to add music overlay, and an intro slide show
    to the exsting Flash animation, but put it in a second .FLA/.SWF
    file. How do I call one from the other?
    This will be embedded in an HTML file but I assume this is
    superfluous to my question.
    F.Z.

    I think you should open that Another SWF (FLA),
    and add some actionscript..
    For example, you could create a movie clip, and write
    actionscript in the
    first keyframe:
    loadMovie("
    http://www.somewebpage.com/movie.swf",
    this);

  • How can i access all the objects of one schema from another schema

    Dear All,
    How can i access all the objects(Tables,Views,Triggers,Procedures,Functions,Packages etc..) and do the modifications of one schema from another schema (Without using synonyms concept).
    Thanks in advance,
    Mahi

    First of all, synonyms only help you easy reference the object. It doesn't have any implication of object privilege.
    As long as you have proper privilege on target object. You can access it with or without synonyms.
    Assuming you have proper privilege of objects, you can use following command to assume schema owner.
    ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = Schema_owner
