Starting, stopping audio files

Hi,
I'm new to Flash and need some assistance. I'm working on a
movie that is very simple. Or so it should be. The movie simply
consists of three buttons: play, pause, and stop
I did the usual thing for including an audio clip by:
1. created a new layer and named it "audio"
2. imported a wav file
3. drag 'n dropped the wav file onto the audio layer
Now, according to my documentation, I am supposed to assign
actions to each of the button instances. For now I'm just working
on the play and stop buttons. For each of these I assigned the
actions play() and stop() methods respectively.
When I play the movie, the audio clip starts, which is fine,
but the buttons do nothing.
What could I be doing wrong?
Please advise,
Alan

the stop() and play(); won't stop sound unless you set it to
stream but than you need
to add as many frames as the sound length as stream is
timeline based.
By using stop(); and stopping timeline you will automatically
pause the sound.
And by play(); you will resume from the place you stopped it.
If you don't want to use stream sound than you need to get
into action script as
stop() and play() simply won't do on such basic timeline.

  • Command to Start/Stop "Windows File Sharing" on OsX Tiger Client

    Dear Mac Gurus:
How to use command to start/stop “Windows File Sharing” on OSX Tiger client?
    Thanks!
    Max

    Hi Max,
Windows file sharing requires two daemons, nmbd and smbd. They can be started/stopped as follows:
To start (type the following all in a single line):
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/nmbd.plist /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/smbd.plist
    To stop:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/nmbd.plist /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/smbd.plist
The option "-w" indicates that the default setting (whether start them at boot time or not) is also modified (the same effect as you turn them on/off via System Preferences -> Sharing). This means, if you start them and shutdown your Mac without stopping them, then they will be automatically restarted next time you reboot the Mac.
If you use "load -F" instead of "laod -w", then they are started but the default setting is not modified (if it is off then remains off).
If you use "unload" instead of "unload -w", then they are stopped the default setting is not modified (if it is on then remains on and will be started at next reboot).
If you feel the commands are too long to type, then you can devide them into two commands, for example:
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/nmbd.plist
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/smbd.plist
See launchctl man page for more detail.

  • How do you start 2+ audio files playing at the same time?

I am trying to play 2 audio files at the same time, but I cannot figure out how to start them playing at the same time without latency issues.
If someone can please explain the process for doing this using Audio Queue Services, I will forever be in your debt.
This is for iPhone, but I was getting no love in those forums on this issue.

Thanks for your reply. Apple's iPhone Application Programming Guide states the Following:
    *Playing Multiple Sounds Simultaneously*
To play multiple sounds simultaneously, create one playback audio queue object for each sound. For each audio queue, schedule the first buffer of audio to start at the same time using the AudioQueueEnqueueBufferWithParameters function.
This leads me to believe that it is possible. I have just not been able to get them to play precisely the same time, there is always delay.

  • Can the playbar widget be configured to start an audio file once 'play' is clicked?

    Captivate 5
I'd like to create a slide in which the user can click on a 'play' button to hear some audio.  Preferrably, I'd like the button to toggle between symbols representing 'play' and 'pause' when the audio is playing.
I was hoping that inserting a playbar widget would accomplish this, but unfortunately the audio I've attached to the widget plays automatically when the slide begins.  I'd like the audio only to play when the user clicks the play button on the widget.
I understand that there are work-arounds for this, but aesthetically it's important to me that the button be dynamic (that is, that it should change when the user clicks it).
    Thanks.

The general workaround for dynamic buttons like you describe is to use Show/Hide Advanced Actions to make it appear as if the button is changing by toggling the images the user sees.
As for getting the user to hear audio when a button is clicked...this is easy enough to do by attaching the audio to the Success caption of the button.  That way, it will only begin playing when the Success caption appears, not when the button appears.  If you don't want the Success caption to be visible, just turn it into a Transparent caption with no text, or move it off stage (in Cp5).
You'll need to experiment with Advanced Actions to get the toggling of the button images and the play/stop of the sound to work as expected, but it should be doable.
Lilybiri has lots of great stuff on her blog about using Advanced Actions: http://lilybiri.posterous.com/

  • Fast Forward & Rewind doesn't work for long audio files

I have loaded several mp3 files into the Pre via USB.  Some are 2+ hours long, some are a few minutes.  Fast forwarding thru the track doesn't work on the long files.  Holding down the fast-forward arrows will cause the audio to stutter in the same place, sometimes go BACKWARDS instead of forwards, and eventually it will go silent.  Pressing Pause, Play, whatever won't bring it back and ytou have to start the audio file over.
    Help, Palm!

Yea, the fast forward is way lame and pretty much...
    You get the idea.

  • Switching audio file on a slideshow.....

I put together my first slideshow last night using iDVD, and it worked great. Since I'm brand new to this I might have the terminology wrong, but - My slideshow contains two different "presentations". On the title page you can pick either one, and it will launch the slideshow, and start the audio file I picked from my iTunes library to go with it.
I've now decided that I want to switch one of the songs for a different one - but I can't figure out how to delete/overwrite the first song with my new option.
    Easy fix?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim

A slide is just a container, whether there are 100 slides with 1 photo on each slide,  or 1 slide with 100 photos, they will both play as required, its just another way of programming the presentation.
The build order list is used to drag and drop to rearrange and time the objects on the slide, in the example below, there are 52 photos, 52 shapes 7 videos and 8 sound files in the presentation.
Inspector > Animate > Build In > Build Order
I actually use Keynote 6.1 as my preferred presentation tool, its reliable and easy to use.
I only use it for new presentations. Older presentations are edited using 5.3.
As with previous versions, Keynote 6.1 does not allow linking to other Keynote files.
I therefore use the technique of 1 slide with multiple builds which is more effective.

  • Starting and stopping multiple audio files throughout Keynote

I have Keynote 08. Can you do this in the next version. It doesn't seem like you can play a song in the document and have it stop a certain slide and start up again on another slide or stop at a certain slide and start a new song.
The only three options seem to be:
    1. Play a song in the background that has no idea where you are in the presentation.
    2. Play a song on particular slides which will stop whenever you go to the next slide.
    3. Switch to a new Keynote document by a hyperlink that plays a new song. You'll then need to have multiple keynote documents.

Try the following; it works for me.
First Audio clip: Build-in (Start Audio) will begin playback
Build-out (Stop Audio) will end playback.
Second Audio clip: Build-in (Start Audio) will begin playback
To have first clip end when second begins, create a Build-Out (Stop Audio) and have the Build-In (Start Audio) of the second clip occur simultaneously with the Build-Out of the first clip.
By the way, you can have these audio clips associated with a slide and still have an audio track running in the background as a Soundtrack. Be sure, however, that you record the various audio tracks at an appropriate level before you import them into Keynote because you cannot balance them while in Keynote.

  • Why is the audio file stop playing midway through a .mp3 file in Firefox and not in the IE browser ?

I added an audio file on to my website, http://www.widescreenonlinereview.com/COMIC-REVIEWS.html. However, the mp3 file stop midway though the song, but the .mp3 file plays completely in the IE Browser.
I tried update Firefox, but I lost some major add-on, which me caused to return to my present Firefox browser, and the .mp3 file still would not play completely in the updates browser either.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • "AU audio file player" stops playing after a few seconds

    Hi there,
i use "AU audio file player" in my concert set up.
It worked fine til yet, but now it just stops playing after a few seconds.
The track is 3 minutes, but it stops suddenly.
I tried to reload the tracks and tried loading the "AU audio fle player" into a new session,
but it still stops playing in any of the sets.
    Any idea?
    Thank you very much, S

    Hi Susanna,
I did not find a way to trigger it from the keyboard...
So I decided the following: I made a short cut for QuicKeys which opens the AUAudioFilePlayer and starts the loop I need. A quick solution which works with just hitting one key on the computer and the loop player starts. This works pretty well with QuicKeys but not with MS, the problem: sometimes when I choose by double clicking the AUAudioFilePlayer a black window shows up and only the name is readable, nothing else. I have to close it, reopen it and then- perhaps- the AU shows up and I can push the play button. Do you now that problem?

  • Why does Logic Pro 9 add 0.3s silence at start of all my tracks when I "export all tracks as audio files"?

OK - when I "export all tracks as audio files" it works fine - I get a load of exported tracks (annoyingly with the stupid "_bip" prefix at the end).
But I find that they all have about 0.3s silence inserted at the start. WHY??!!!
I checked, and on the timeline all the tracks start with their first note at the beginning of the track so there is no silence in the arrangement. But still this silence on export.
This Logic feature is so badly designed - why can't it do the simplest things as expected.

Thank you I will look into plug-in latency compensation. However, there is no latency or need for latency compensation when outputting offline files in this way. Latency compensation is for live playback where real-time processing matters. So this is flawed software design, hence my comments about it being illogical.
"there is no latency or need for latency compensation when outputting offline files.....etc"
You don't fully understand how Logic's audio engine and buffering scheme works... not that anyone fully does except the programmers. Basically your above statement is incorrect, as some plugins have built-in-latency and others don't, but that's not the complete picture. The problem is a combination of a plugin's built-in-latency and how Logic buffers data. Logic deactivates the audio engine when stopped, all plugins and software instruments become deactivated including the ability to load or purge data buffers with the exception of a software instrument or audio track that is selected for "live" input.
(Look up Plug-in-Latency Compensation in the manual for a full explation of the choices available)
I won't disagree with you about the software design, however, rather than flawed I tend to think of it as antiquated. The positive side of this is extremely low processor use and the ability to design templates with all plugins and software instruments loaded and ready to start a new project. The downside most Logic users are familiar with...  unexpected overloads in the middle of a project when a approaching a region that makes use of processor intensive plugins, Loops that don't match up perfectly when starting a project from bar 1 and/or missing notes at the beginning of MIDI loop if starting at bar 1.... plus a half dozen other anomalies related to Logic's "efficient" audio engine. The efficiency concept made sense back when computers didn't have enough power to handle active or semi-active plugins, seems it causes more problems than not these days.

  • How can I get one audio file to stop once another is triggered on the same page in EPUB?

I have multiple audio files on one page and am able to trigger each separately with their own control panels. Unfortunately, these can all be played over one another. Is there a solution within InDesign to stop the first active audio file once another audio button is triggered on the same page?
WIll this have to be done through Javascript?

Use buttons. They can have have more than one action. Set a button to stop the first audio, and start the second.

  • How come when I stop and start an audio clip before its done...

How come when I stop and start an audio clip when before its done, that when I play it it only plays part of the file?

I'm not sure if I got you right, but do you mean that it's like pausing...
I have never played an audio clip with java, but if this is the case, maybe you have to rewind the clip.

  • How can I control whether or not an audio files plays when a slide starts?

I am putting together a course and have a welcome audio that plays automatically when the user begins the course. Since that slide has a list of the modules that will be in the course, I would also like to use it as one navigation option - click the "Menu" link on any slide and return to this page.
The problem: Every time the page is hit the audio plays.
The question: How can I set the audio so it only plays the first time the page is entered but not again?
I have created a variable called "PlayWelcomeAudio" and set it to "Y" initially, then have an Advanced Action script that changes the variable to "N" when it is clicked (progress through the course is linear so there is only one option available to the user at this point. Clicking that link opens the next page and sets "PlayWelcomeAudio" to "N".
I can see that the variable has been set correctly (when I start it is "Y" and when I come back it is "N") but I'm not seeing anyplace where I can set the audio file so it doesn't play.
I tried setting cpCmndMute to "1" but that didn't work because it is apparently a global setting and I didn't get any audio playing anywhere after that.
I'm not looking to pause the timeline or anything like that. I just want the audio to play the first time but not the second and subsequent times that page is hit.
    Thoughts? Suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Michael

Attach your welcome audio to an object that is not seen (e.g. a highlight box set to 0%) and use your Advanced Actions and variables to HIDE this object ON SLIDE ENTER if the user returns to the same Menu slide at a later point in the course module.
This should mean that the first time the user gets to that slide, the audio will play.  But all subsequent times they return to that slide, the object will be immediately hidden on entering the slide, which will mean that the audion does not play and all the user sees are the menu options.
Your alternate strategy would be to have two slides that look almost the same.  The first one has the audio, and the second one doesn't.  Your TOC item for Menu, and any other links in the project that point to the Menu, would go to the second slide without audio.  The user will be none the wiser as long as you work out the navigation.

I have been sampling new imported drum loops. And if I adjust region to song or time strecth it updates the audio file in the library. How to stop this? I lost the original setting to one loop. automatically doing it ??

This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • How do I stop breaks or stutters in the audio file from occurring while editing?

I am using Captivate 8 but I saw this same problem in Cap7. My narrator recorded the audio while recording the video. He did not record to each slide independently, but instead allowed the software to break the narration at mouse clicks. As the editor, I am cleaning up the audio/video and every time I try to edit the audio it causes a stutter (a small silent section) at some other point in the audio file.
For Example: The mouse click occurred in the middle of a word, I re-position this frame break, a small gap is created in the middle of a word someplace else in the audio.
Any editing, even something as simple as changing the volume of the project through the Audio>Edit>Project option, can cause one or more of these brief silences somewhere in the audio. I have tried inserting silence before re-positioning a frame break, but that doesn't solve the problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is taking 10 times longer than it should to do some simple editing.
    Thank you!!

In other blogs some mentioned a little tool that stops the video when u go to other pages but it doesn't on Android as the mentioned here
