Starting to think that the AirPlay icon is a myth

Just updated to iOS 7.0.2 and installed the latest Netflix update.  I can no longer watch anything from Netflix on my projector or TV as it tells me I have to disable mirroring in AirPlay, but after trying every tip on the internet to get AirPlay up I've had no luck.
Thus far I've tried:
Updating my routers firmware.
Rebooting both my router and iPad multiple times in every configuration I can think of.
Hunting through the control panel, Settings, double clicking the Home button, putting 'mirroring', 'AirPlay' and anything related I could think of into the search bar.
Scouring iTunes, Videos and every video streaming app I have for a link.
Reading every community support question that seemed relevant.
Swearing.
Swearing louder.
I'd really appreciate some help, but for the love of God please don't link me to the Apple AirPlay troubleshooting page.  That page has become a second home to me and yet my trouble is not shot.  Oh, and I DON'T have Apple TV.  Please, please, please and thank you.

Hi,
NI does not have any software that can do this. I guess you would need to write a serial driver that uses the GPIB board (using NI-488.2 functions).
The only quick solution I can think of is using the GPIB-232CV-A or GPIB-232CT-A external GPIB interfaces:
http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=10066〈=US
With this interfaces you could use one of the COM ports to communicate in a GPIB bus.
Hope this helps.

    You are not addressing Apple here.
    No, once you install iOS 7 that is it.

    To check your model go to About This Mac (by clicking on the Apple icon, top left) and then select more info. If you wish to use mirroring you will need one from 2011 or later running OSX 10.8 or later. The alternative would be to use 3rd party software like Airparrot.

  • HT204291 Now that I updated my SW on my iPad I can not find the airplay icon in music. Any advice?

    Any help would be greatly appecaited.

    Hey Hokies6894,
    Thanks for the question. With the introduction of iOS 7, the AirPlay icon has moved to the Control Center for easy access from any screen. To access Control Center, simply swipe up from the bottom of your screen:

    If AirPlay does not appear, it may be due to no available AirPlay devices. For troubleshooting information, see this article:

  • Where Is the Airplay Icon (for audio) on my iPhone 4?  - And Other Issues

    For the most part I'm pretty pleased with iOSv4.2 for both my iPads and iPhones. Folders, multitasking, all great improvements. But perhaps the most exciting new feature is "Airplay" from my iPad and, I wish, from my iPhone as well. To bad it's gimpy...
    Never mind the fact that Airplay doesn't work with my original AppleTV - I think that's a raw deal, but hey, that's the way Apple rolls us into its version of the future. So ATV2 is already ordered and en-route.
    I'll get to video and photos eventually, but for now I'm mostly concerned about sending music wirelessly from my iGizmos to speaker systems around the house. I have two Airport Express units, and those show up in Airplay on my iPad, so I know the system is working.
    So here are the issues I'm having with Airplay:
    1) I'm posting here because my biggest issue is that I do not see Airplay on my iPhone 4 updated to iOSv4.2. Even when using the iPod app on the iPhone, when I swipe to the controls in multitasking mode, there is no Airplay icon. It seems to me I should be able to send audio - either stored or streaming - from my iPhone to my Airports (as I can with my iPad), but I cannot. BTW, I DID see the Airplay icon briefly yesterday - when I had a bluetooth stereo headset activated, the Airplay icon appeared and gave me the choice of the headset or the iPhone. But I never did see an option to connect with my Airports.
    2) When using Airplay from the iPad, I was only permitted to select ONE Airport device at a time. Huh? With Airplay in iTunes on my desktop, I have the option of sending the signal to as many devices as I want at one time. Is there some reason I cannot do that with my iOSv4.2? Seems to me they should operate in the same manner, why the oversight? Eventually I will need to connect multiple sound systems to one source.
    3) As others have reported in this space, I am experiencing intermittent signal when listening to audio from my v4.2 enable iPad. It gets pretty annoying. I will continue to monitor these threads and see if I can get to the crux of the issue.
    I recall reading that the release v4.2 was delayed somewhat in part because of "WiFi issues," and it would appear to me that those issues were not entirely resolved prior to the actual release. I'm glad they went ahead and released it, because the other features I've alluded to are a big improvement, but now that they've tempted me with these new possibilities, I expect it all to work well.
    Are we taking bets on the release of iOSv4.2.2 ?
    Thanks,
    --PS

    Mini Man, I'm glad to read you found a solution to your issue, but I don't know if your solution is going to be mine as well.
    For starters, I do not have the new Apple TV - at least, not yet. I have ordered one, but it will not be delivered until some time next week (sneering glance at Steve & Co. for abandoning that platform rather than making it AirPlay compatible).
    But that is not really my issue: my issue is that my two Airport Express units do NOT show up in the iPhone, though the DO show up on my iPad. This tells me they have been properly configured (both units have names, and are connected to the house network), so there must still be something missing from the equation.
    And, judging from the response of a few others who have chimed in here, I think it's save to say that the experience is not altogether uncommon.
    I'm surprised nobody has come back with a more direct solution to the common issue. I may have to call AppleCare someday this week...

  • I keep getting the message, "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I get it when I either try to open it from the Start menu or from the desktop icon.

    I've just installed Firefox on my laptop and keep getting the message, "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I get this message whenever I either try to open it from the Start menu or from the desktop icon. I've never gotten it to work and even uninstalled it and then redownloaded it and still cannot get it to open. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

    Are you installing from the official site? http://www.mozilla.com/firefox
    If you use Windows Explorer (My Computer) to check that path, is the Mozilla Firefox folder there? That is the normal installation location, but I think it's worth checking.
    If the folder isn't there or firefox.exe is not in it, I wonder whether some other software might be interfering. You might want to run some supplemental security scans. These two tools are highly regarded:

  • The Airplay Icon is not showing up on My Taskbar After Upgrading to Mountain Lion

    Please help.  I have 2nd generation Apple TV and a 2011 Imac but the Airplay Icon will not show up on Taskbar after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

    Finally after trying to uninstall/reinstall (no luck!)
    I'm on Windows 7 64 bit.  iTunes 10.7   And I have a solution:
    If found a thread about IPv6.
    I followed the same directions on Windows 7 64 bit and it worked.
    Disable IPv6 on _all_ of your IP ethernet adapters.
    That includes Virtual Machines (VMWare... yes those too), including IPv6 for wireless.
    Close iTunes.  Start iTunes.  Works.  Airplay Icon is back.
    It looks like All of the AirPlay devices may have to be re-setup.  At the very least rebooted.
    I found that I had to clompletely erase my DHCP addresses from my (non Apple) router.. and that fixed it.  Finally.
    Even though this is for the Mac... I believe they are onto something.   Original thread link:

    It's not necessary, but is a good troubleshooting step.  How to do so varies from brand to brand.  Look at the manufacturers website, they should have a manual available that explains how to access the settings and change it.

    The ATV connected to the routher via wi-fi , but both sitting on the same shelf.
    In that case, I would strongly encourage you to connect them via a short Ethernet cable.  The proximity of the two devices could be the culprit in the video quality issues.

  • HT201335 I am only getting the AirPlay icon when I am in ITunes.  It does not show up when on my Mac when ITunes in not on the screen.  There is no Icon at the top of my computer. How do I fix it?

    Can someone tell me how to get the AirPlay Icon on the toolbar at the top of my screen?  It only shows up when I am in Itunes.

    The airplay icon you are reffering to is for mirrorring your desktop.  It is a functionality of Mountain Lion and it seems, based your profile, that you are still using Lion.  Therefore, you will need to purchase and upgrade to 10.8 in order to get this function.
    Be sure your iMac is really mid 2011 as it will be the oldest to support the mirrorring function.  Apple TV 2 or later is also required.

  • How do I get the Airplay Icon to show on the System Preferences of my MacBook Pro?

    How do I get the Airplay Icon to show on the System Preferences of my MacBook Pro? I want to be able to connect to my AppleTV.

    I looked at that already. I've done everything it says: check to make sure wireless is working, make sure airplay is enabled, make sure device and apple tv are on the same network blah blah. The icon just isn't there. Unless I skipped a step. AirPlay works when I use it in the music app and in the video app, I jus can't get mirroring to work. I was looking at some other threads and mirroring doesn't seem to be working for a lot of people. Maybe I jus have to wait for an update =\

  • How do i add the airplay icon to the toolbar?

    I upgraded to Mountain Lion.  But, when I am on Safari, the AirPlay icon is missing.  How can I add it?  Thank you.

    Sadness.  Although, it sure seems that they may have mentioned equipment limitations more prominently.  Or, maybe, I just saw what I wanted to see.
    Thank you, mende1.

  • Why do I not see the Airplay icon on any device?

    Hello everyone
    None of my Apple devices show the Airplay icon anymore.  The devices I have are :
    *  Apple TV 2nd Gen (MC572B/A - v5.3)
    *  MacBook Mid 2007 13-in running OS X Lion 10.7.5
    *  MacBook Late 2009 13-in running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4
    *  2x iPhone 4S (both running iOS 6.1.3)
    Other non-Apple devices are 2x 2013 Amazon Kindles, a PS3, Sky HD+ Box w/Wireless Receiver.
    I received my Apple TV in Christmas 2011 and I had not noticed a problem with Airplay until I got Sky in February 2013.  My network was running on WEP connection as both of the MacBooks had problems using WPA/WPA2 connections when initially setting up the Wifi a couple of years before.  It turned out that the Sky box would only play with a WPA connection.  It's from here that Airplay stopped working.  Previously we could use everything associated with Airplay - stream music from all devices, send pictures and video, and also stream content from iTunes to the Apple TV including films and TV Programmes.  Our Apple devices can now connect to the Internet using a WPA connection (the 2007 MacBook cycles for a long time but that is another issue) so this is not a problem, and it's worth noting that all of my non-Apple devices work absolutely perfectly and always have done (also including previous smartphones etc).
    I have tried the following solutions :
    *  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4215 (Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring);
    *  Changing the DNS Servers (Unsuccessful);
    *  Restarting the Router (AirPlay icon showed for less than 15 minutes before disappearing again);
    *  Restarting Apple TV (Unsuccessful);
    *  Toggling AirPlay in Apple TV (Unsuccessful);
    *  Deleting the WiFi network in Apple TV (Unsuccessful);
    *  Deleting the WiFi network on my 2007 MacBook and manually adding it (Unsuccessful);
    *  Deleting the WiFi network on both iPhone 4S' (Unsuccessful);
    *  Removing the Firewall from my router (Unsuccessful);
    *  Changing the security options on my router (Unsuccessful);
    *  Powering off all devices and back on (Unsuccessful);
    *  NOTE : Home Sharing is turned ON and is visible on Apple TV;
    What else can I try that isn't listed?  A follow up question is if I bought an Airport Express (I don't want to tbh), would that immediately solve the lack of AirPlay and cycling issues?
    Thanks in advance

    Just to finish this discussion off, the issue was 100% the router firmware.  Please see the below, direct from the support pages of www.plus.net :
    The  585v8 v8.2.7.7 firmware is known to cause wi-fi connectivity problems with certain Apple computers. To fix this problem we recommend that you upgrade to v8.2.7.8 that features updated wi-fi drivers from the chipset manufacturer. No official upgrade tool exists for Apple computers so you may need to reflash the firmware using a Windows computer instead.
    I did this yesterday after borrowing a PC and it fixed all of the issues I was having - no Airplay icons, cycling for wifi networks, dropped connections - all of these righted themselves after a firmware update.
    The reason it wasn't the first thing tried was that I was under the impression that a) my router had up to date firmware as it wasn't clear on my ISP's website, and b) that my router firmware would have updated automatically as there was no option to update on my routers settings page.
    The WEP security issues were a bit of a red herring tbh.  When I first joined my ISP downgrading the security was the advice given after I experienced initial connection problems, but this was probably due to a lack of updated firmware at the time - the issues had to be related to security which would have been solved by an open network.  Obviously this is not ideal, so a WEP connection was a wobbly middle ground.
    Thanks for everyone's help.
