Startup database commandline without active listener

Hi,
in the past I've started my database in UNIX with this: sqlplus sys/pwd@DATABASE @startup.sql startup.sql contains only "startup;"
This worked fine with hard-coded databases in the listner.ora. But we've changed our listener behaviour... now the listener waits for databases connecting to the listener, so the command above does not work any more. I tried:
export ORACLE_SID=DATBASE|sqlplus sys / as sysdba @startup.sql
but it fails with prompting the sqlplus-Syntax. Can somebody give me a hint or annother opportunity to startup the database with a sinlge line of code? Maybe something like this is the right way... but I can't get it to work:
export ORACLE_SID=DATABASE|sqlplus <<EOF connect / as sysdba \n startup\n quit \n EOF
thanks

I thought dbstart.sh starts all databases? The head of the file says this too:

I only want to start/stop a single database. A startup-Script on the dbhost would be okay, but I don't know how to do it :-(take backup of this script Modify the script as you want .

  • Open database if an active online redo log is missing

    Hi,
    Sorry for the rather long post, but I specified all the steps I performed and couldn't make it shorter :-(
    I need an advice on how to open the database if an active online redo log is missing.
    For test purposes I intentionally performed a shutdown abort when the redo log group 1 was in active state and then renamed its only member (REDO01.LOG) so that the database couldn't perform crash recovery using it. Then upon startup I obviously got the message:
    ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 1 of thread 1
    ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1: 'H:\ORADATA\TESTDB\REDO01.LOG'
    ORA-27041: unable to open file
    OSD-04002: unable to open file
    O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.Ok, so I checked the state of the logs:
    {noformat}
    SQL>SELECT a.GROUP#, first_change#, SEQUENCE#, a.status, SUBSTR(b.MEMBER, 1, 40) MEMBER, b.status mem_status, a.archived
      2    FROM v$log a, v$logfile b
      3   WHERE a.GROUP# = b.GROUP#
      4  ORDER BY a.GROUP#, b.MEMBER;
    GROUP# FIRST_CHANGE#  SEQUENCE# STATUS           MEMBER                         MEM_STA ARC
         1        592134         29 ACTIVE           H:\ORADATA\TESTDB\REDO01.LOG           YES
         2        592268         30 CURRENT          C:\ORADATA\TESTDB\REDO02.LOG           NO
         3        592129         28 ACTIVE           C:\ORADATA\TESTDB\REDO03.LOG           YES
    {noformat}Since opening the database to perform a log switch and thus change the status of the redo log group 1 from ACTIVE to INACTIVE to recreate the member isn't possible, I performed database recovery.

    SQL>So for log sequence #28 I accepted the proposed archived redo log in the FRA, for sequence #29 (that's the online redo log that is missing!) I manually specified its archived copy, and for sequence #30 I specified the CURRENT online redo log. And as it seems the media recovery was successful.
    Next I tried to open the database but again got the error:

    O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.
    The status of the log groups and its members is exactly as it was in the first query I wrote above, i.e. the redo log group 1 is still ACTIVE, so it's needed for crash recovery (which I had already done manually if I understand correctly how Oracle works!). I also checked if the datafiles are inconsistent (described in metalink doc id 1015544.102):
    SQL>SELECT DISTINCT CHECKPOINT_CHANGE#, FUZZY FROM V$DATAFILE_HEADER;
    CHECKPOINT_CHANGE# FUZ
                592269 NOSo, everything seems ok as far as datafile consistency is concerned.
    My question is: how can I rename/drop/clear/whatever the member of redo log group 1 to open the database?
    I tried to rename the log file member, to add another member to it, to open the database with resetlogs, to clear the logfile group 1, but all without success:

    SQL>alter database clear logfile group 1;

    You could check if the recovery was complete by (re)creating the controlfile with the resetlogs option.
    <CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE define_db_name RESETLOGS NOARCHIVELOG
    ...>Thanks for the hint. If possible, could you only check if the steps I'm going to perform are ok.
    I did an "alter database backup controlfile to trace;" and then extracted the create controlfile definition part. So in essence I should run the following statements:
    CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "TESTDB" RESETLOGS  ARCHIVELOG
        MAXLOGFILES 16
        MAXLOGMEMBERS 3
        MAXDATAFILES 100
        MAXINSTANCES 8
        MAXLOGHISTORY 292
    LOGFILE
      GROUP 1 'C:\ORADATA\TESTDB\REDO01.LOG'  SIZE 20M,
      GROUP 2 'C:\ORADATA\TESTDB\REDO02.LOG'  SIZE 20M,
      GROUP 3 'C:\ORADATA\TESTDB\REDO03.LOG'  SIZE 20M
    -- STANDBY LOGFILE
    DATAFILE
      'C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\TESTDB\SYSTEM01.DBF',
      'C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\TESTDB\UNDOTBS01.DBF',
      'C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\TESTDB\SYSAUX01.DBF',
      'C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\TESTDB\USERS01.DBF'
    CHARACTER SET EE8MSWIN1250
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
    ALTER TABLESPACE TEMP ADD TEMPFILE 'C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\TESTDB\TEMP01.DBF' REUSE;Is that correct?
    About the RMAN backups: Wouldn't a 'CATALOG RECOVERY AREA' populate the controlfile with backup information again (I'm not using a recovery catalog in this case)?
    Thanks for the help!

  • How to mount database copy without specific datafiles

    Hello all,
    I need to make a database copy without specific datafiles. This is due to, in the copy, I just need some, not all, datafiles.
    I tried the following command:
    startup mount
    alter tablespace mydata offlineBut it appears that the database must be open.
    Anybody have performed some similar?
    There is a document where I can read about it?
    What else I need to know in order to start up this, reduced database copy?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello All,
    Thanks for your answers.
    Yes I have already copied some filesystems to another server. All the data I need are on that filesystems. I haven´t tried to open the database. So, in order to put it online, and taking in consideration all your suggestions I will perform on this sequence:
    startup mount
    alter database datafile mydatafile1 offline
    alter database datafile mydatafile2 offline
    alter database datafile myindexdatafile1 offline
    alter database datafile myindexdatafile2 offline
    alter database openWith this steps, the database should bring online. Correct?
    There is another step, that Im missing?
    What about the listener?
    Will be enough to change the port and server name?
    Thanks again.

  • Change parameter instance_name after standby database has been activated

    Hello ,
    our primary database is configured as follows:
    SQL> show parameter db_name;
    NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
    db_name                              string      prod01
    SQL> show parameter instance_name
    NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
    instance_name                        string      prod01
    the corresponding standby database is configured as:
    SQL> show parameter db_name;
    NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
    db_name                              string      prod01
    SQL> show parameter instance_name
    NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
    instance_name                        string      stbyprod01
    Now the standby database shall be activated. Afterwards I want to change the parameter INSTANCE_NAME from stbyprod01 to prod01.
    The question now is: what needs to be done to change the parameter INSTANCE_NAME? As a matter of fact the standby database will
    already be activated and be treated and handled as a standalone database. The former primary database will  not be used anymore.
    I would proceed as follows:
    SQL> create pfile='initprod01.ora' from spfile;
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    oracle #> edit the pfile and change the parameter INSTANCE_NAME from stbyprod01 to prod01
    SQL> startup;
    SQL> create spfile='spfileprod01.ora' from pfile;
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    SQL> startup;
    That should be all - from my point of view (I know that LISTENER.ORA and TNSNAMES.ORA should be modified, too).
    If anybody has already experiences with changing the INSTANCE_NAME parameter but sees some further configurations: please just let me know!

    Hi ,
    only "alter system set instance_name='TEST' scope=spfile" will work since the parameter INSTANCE_NAME is static. After restarting the database/instance the statement "show parameter instance_name" will show the new instance name.
    But when selecting the view V$INSTANCE the value of the column INSTANCE_NAME has still the old value. Any idea why this value remains unchanged in the view V$INSTANCE?

    1) You use nid only to change the dbid.
    2) I have done this type of cloning much more than 50 times.
    3) As Iordan Iotzov pointed out, in 11gR2 you can run DUPLICATE database without being connected to the PROD
    Here is a sample code of how to do it assuming both file system are the same:
    # -- RMAN Restore to another server

    This sounds like you have created a startup-exe for your cRIO. So this is what you do if you want the cRIO to run independently from your host. This is what you do if you want the cRIO to start working as soon as you power it.
    Running a VI from your LV project on the cRIO is for debugging. So if an executable is running on the cRIO, it will have to terminate before you can run the debugging version of the VI.
    So regarding what you want to have, you either have not to run the application as startup-exe at all or you must not connect to the cRIO using your LV project.
    If you choose to keep the rtexe, you will have to implement an interface to it in order to exchange data with your host. You should take a look into the cRIO reference architectures for ideas for possible solutions. This reference architecture shows a quite good solution....
    hope this helps,

  • How can I get an iphone to replace my mom's old phone without activating it until she opens it?

    The guy at the store was a real jerk.  He said I could not get the new phone and delay the switch or activate it myself, that once I got her the new phone I could not leave the store without activating it and turning off her existing phone!  He was very rude about it and truly made me dislike the Apple store.  I had done this once before, but now thinking back I think I ordered the upgrade online.  He called me a liar and said I had done no such thing in the past that it was impossible.  I asked if I could do it if I just bought the phone full price and he said no.  He said there is no humanly possible way to buy an iphone that was not activated at the time of purchase, and if I wanted to keep her existing phone number there was no way to do it with her phone staying on until the day we gave her the new one that the minute I buy her the new phone her old one will be turned off.
    This seems wrong and not the best marketing for Apple.
    So is he right?  Can you no longer get a new or upgraded phone as a surprise for someone?
    We have to go in now before the party to do the switch so we can get her the surprise but keep her phone on (except for maybe an hour before she opens the present and hopefully she doesn't get stranded on the road on teh way to the party in that no phone service window!...)

    I will assume you are in the U.S. (only because I don't know how this works in other countries).  I will also assume you know your mom's current cellular carrier, want to stay with that carrier, and that is a carrier that works with Apple iPhone under contract (AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint).
    Certainly if an iPhone is ordered through the Apple Store online, it doesn't have to be activated until the purchaser is ready to activate it.  Activation is accomplished by iTunes when setting up the iPhone.
    These days, it is possible to order an iPhone from the Apple Store online, and have it made available for pickup at the Apple Store (instead of delivering it to a home or office).
    So, bottom line, the new iPhone would be ready to go with a pre-determined phone number and carrier, purchased at the (subsidized) carrier rate, and become activated when the purchaser is ready to do so by plugging into iTunes.
    I think that's exactly what you are trying to do, and exactly what you have been told is not possible.  I don't believe for a minute it's not possible (given the assumptions in my first paragraph).
    I hope that helps.

    If the iCloud account you are trying to delete is old ID that was later updated to change it to your current ID, you can go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now, if desired, you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Creation of Logical Standby Database Using RMAN ACTIVE DATABASE COMMAND

    Hi All,
    I am in confusion how to create logical standby database from primary database using rman active database command.
    What i did:-
    Create primary database on machine 1 on RHEL 5 with Oracle 11gR2
    Create standby database on machine 2 on RHEL 5 With Oracle 11gR2 from primary using RMAN active database command
    Trying to create logical standby database on machine 3 on RHEL 5 with Oracle 11gR2 using RMAN active database command from primary.
    The point which confuse me is to start the logical standby in nomount mode on machine 3 with which pfile like i create the pfile for standby database do i need to create the pfile for logical standby db.
    I done the creation of logical standby database by converting physical standby to logical standby database
    I am following the below mentioned doc for the same:

    Kindly guide me how to work over the same or please provide me the steps of the same.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your reply
    I already started the logical standby database with pfile in nomount mode. And successfully completed the duplication of database. by mentioning the DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT parameter.
    But i am not able to receive the logs on the above mentioned blog i run the sql command to check the logs but getting "no rows selected"
    My primary database pfile is:

  • Can I create User profile service sync connection for my site without Active directory?

    Hi everyone,
    Is it possible to use my site without active directory? our AD policy don't allow farm account to have "Replicating directory changes", If I export AD information to SQL and sync profile from SQL is it possible?
    Thanks
    TanaponP

    Yes, you can use mysites without setting up user profile sync.  But you won't be able to sync information from SQL without having a primary sync setup with AD first.  Syncing to something like SQL is designed to augment existing profiles.  It
    won't create new ones.

  • Can I use WiFi and other features without activating phone

    I want to find out if I can still use WiFi, connect to the computer, etc without activating actual phone service with Verizon.  Basically I plan on getting this phone free with a new contract, but I will continue to use my old phone as the actual active phone.  (There are no new phones that don't require $30 data plan that are actually better than the phone I have now.)

    Yes, the Kin TwoM will work on wifi without activating the service.  Before activating mine, I was able to use web browsing and email for about a week on wifi.  I didn't try out the Zune software until later, though I don't think that would be affected either.
    However, I did start getting automated txt msgs from verizon warning that I would be in violation of the 2 year discount/aggrement (and be charged full price of the phone) unless I activated the Kin on my number.  I went ahead and activated the Kin at that time.
    At present, I could not find anything to that wording in the fine print agreement, and I don't think there would be any problem porting my number back to my old phone, but beware that you may have to activate the Kin once then transfer your number back to your old phone.
