I've shutdown the database from SQLPLUS.How to
startup the database from sql plus.I tried to connect
using sys and i recieve Listener doesn't know
currently of service....Your errors seems that you were using sqlplus in client not in server to shudown
database and try to startup database.
If so, you need to config your listener.ora with static listener as well as dynamic listener.

  • Trying to access 10gr2 database from sqlplus utility but it connects to 11g

    Hi All,
    I am facing below issue while access 10gr2 database from sqlplus.
    I am having two oracle homes on one server one belongs to 11gr2 and another belongs to 10gr2.
    I want to access a 10gr2 database through sqlplus utility.but instaed of connecting to 10gr2 it is connecting to 11gr2 after I enter a user name and passowrd.
    I have set all the env variables such as oracle_home ,oracle_sid and path with respect to Oracle 10gr2.
    Can you please let me kno what I need to do to connect to 10gr2 database and not 11gr2 database through sql plus.
    Let me know if I need to give any more details on this.
    Best Regards,
    Dipti S

    Hi Rocky,
    I got the resolution.
    I made a mistake by creating an oracle instance/service(e.g. fsdmo) when Oracle_home was pointing to 11gR2 Directory.so that service was refering to 11gr2 oracle home.
    hence when I was setting oracle_sid(fsdmo) and trying to access database instance from 11g sqlplus utility ,it was directing to 11g and not 10g since oracle service was pointing to 11g.
    So now after chnaging the oracle home directory to 11g,I am creating a service and its working fine.
    thank you so much for responding.
    hope I am clear with my reply.

  • Shutdown/Startup database from java

    Hi,
    I need to execute shutdown/ startup database commands from a java application. I have tried wrapping these in sql / sh file using Runtime.getRuntime().exec("z:\\sql\\shut.sql"), but keep getting:
    java.io.IOException: CreateProcess
    any ideas ?
    thanks,

    Hi,
    I don't see why the 11g Drivers won't work for earlier releases of the DB as long as you follow the steps in the documentation. Have you tried it?

  • Startup database via sqlplus - ORA-12514

    Windows XP Prof., ORACLE 10g R2
    I did the following on the database server:
    sqlplus sys as sysdbaSQL>shutdown

    sqlplus /nologSQL> connect sys as sysdba
    ERROR:
    ORA-12514: TNS: Listener kann in Connect-Deskriptor angegebenen Service aktuell nicht aufl÷sen
    What have I to do that I can connect to database on the server via sqlplus without using the listener? I understand that the listener can't find the service because the database is down. But there must be a possibility to connect to an idle instance.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Cannot connect as a new user to second database from SQLPLUS

    Hello,
    I've created a new database with CREATEDB POLITE jantest.
    I connected via sqlplus as system/mgr@ODBC:POLITE:jantest. This
    works fine, I run de poldemo.sql file and that worked fine also.
    Then I created a user jan identified by jan. Then I tried to
    connect to this user with SQLPLUS as
    jan/jan@ODBC:POLITE:jantest. I get an error message that the
    user does not exist. Then I tried to connect as
    scott/tiger@ODBC:POLITE:jantest. This worked, however is was
    then connected to the default 'polite' database.
    Has anyone experienced the same kind of weird problems.

    Response:
    when you create a database under oracle lite, you first
    configure this database via ODBC(for example give to this
    database a sourcename jan) then connect to this database using
    system/manager@jan. Thenafter you should grant previllege ddl to
    user jan before connecting :
    grant ddl to jan
    and now you can connect using : connect jan/jan@jan

    You would get this error if the SQL Anywhere engine name (ENG) or database name (DBN) has changed.
    Perhaps one (or both) of these was changed when the application was updated?

  • How to startup the database from pfile?

    Hi guys.
    hope all of you fine.
    how to startup the database from pfile?
    Thanks.

    You can create pfile from spfile
    SQL>create pfile='/tmp/pfile.ora' from spfile;
    then
    SQL>startup pfile='/tmp/pfile.ora';
    You can edit pfile.ora file and startup your database with this newly changed database parameter using pfile
    And you can define you're using pfile or spfile by issuing:
    SQL> show parameter spfile;

    when connect the Database from Toad , Sqlplus giving the error recent changes 12.1.1 installatiojnHave you tried using the same user via simple sqlplus on the database server or apps tier server itself? Please try the same database user/login on the database server using the sqlplus available on the server itself. See what message do you get. If the the login happens, then try with the tns entry e.g. sqlplus username/password@prod and see if that works on the db server. If both of these conditions work the check where is Toad picking up the tns entry from on the client pc/laptop. If first test fails, then check if the account is locked.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to clone database from backup without access to original DB

    I want to create a new database from existing backup files and rolling forward some of the archivelogs (preferably with a new name and with different directory layout).
    How can I achieve the task on a separate test server (without access to the original database)? I found a lot of sources ( e.g. http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/DuplicateDatabaseUsingRMAN_11gR2.php ) but all with connection to original DB (e.g. entries in tnsanmes.ora)
    Backup runs a simple
    BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG;
    DB Version is 11.2.0.2 on Linux.

    Many thanks to your help. Finally I was able to restore the DB. The steps I used (similiarly also mentioned in some of the links above).
    1.) Copy backup (backupset, autobackup, archivelog) to the new server into directories
    /export/restore/autobackup/2012_03_01
    /export/restore/autobackup/2012_03_02
    /export/restore/archivelog/2012_03_01
    /export/restore/backupset/2012_03_01
    2.) create pfile initDBREST.ora
    DB_NAME=DBREST
    3.) Mount DB
    ORACLE_SID=DBREST; export ORACLE_SID
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    STARTUP NOMOUNT;
    4.) Connect to auxiliary DB
    ORACLE_SID=DBREST; export ORACLE_SID
    rman AUXILIARY /
    5.) Create directories for new DB for datafiles in e.g. /export/oradata/DBREST/
    6.) Duplicate DB and reset parameter if necessary (e.g. memory_max as test server is lower on RAM)
    DUPLICATE DATABASE TO DBREST
    until time "to_date('02.03.2012 15:00:00','DD.MM.YYYY hh24:mi:ss')"
    DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT '/export/fs1/oradata/oldDB/','/export/oradata/DBREST/', '/export/fs2/oradata/oldDB/','/export/oradata/DBREST/'
    SPFILE
    SET MEMORY_TARGET '2G'
    SET MEMORY_MAX_TARGET '2G'
    SET db_recovery_file_dest '/export/oradata/'
    SET db_recovery_file_dest_size '100G'
    BACKUP LOCATION '/export/restore'
    NOFILENAMECHECK;
    7.) create temporary tablespace

  • Clone database from server to PC

    Hi all,
    I am having the difficulty after clone the database from a hot backup from server. Both server & PC running at W2k OS and Oracle 8.1.7. Below are the steps what i am doing.
    1)Take a hot backup from the server.
    2)Create a folder \oracle\oradata\CLONE. Stored all the datafiles there.
    3)Copy the init.ora from the server and paste to \oracle\admin\CLONE\pfile. Amended all the location, instance name, db name, etc.
    4)log in to server and run the command, ALTER SYSTEM BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE RESETLOGS.
    5)Copy the trace file and amend to the create control file script. Alter the script like
    STARTUP NOMOUNT
    CREATE CONTROLFILE SET DATABASE "CLONE" RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG
    MAXLOGFILES 5
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 3
    6)Also created the service using the command ORADIM.
    7)Under OS command line, SET ORACLE_SID=CLONE and then log in the SQL*PLUS. Once i executed the create control script. I hv encounter error like ORA-27100: shared memory realm already exists.
    Could anyone tell me why this error occurs and how to solve the problem.
    TQ,
    Alfred

    Your got this error because you try to create a new control files on an open instance.
    You need to shutdown the instance ( SQL>shutdown immediate ) and connect back to the database using the nolog flag, then do connect to the sysadm, this will start the backgroup process. just them you will be able to initiate your command.
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    c:\>sqlplus /nolog
    SQL>connect /as sysdba
    SQL>@YourControlFileCreateScript.

  • Error while duplicate database from one server to another server

    Hi there,
    I am practicing duplicate database from one single database server to another server. Hardware and driver path on 2 machines is the same. Here are my steps:
    --------------------- Clone site:
    1. modify listener.ora with content:
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost.localdomain)(PORT = 1521))

    2. stop and start listener again, message show like :
    Service “orcl” has 1 instance(s).
    Instance “orcl”, status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service…
    The command completed successfully
    3. create pfile from spfile.

  • ORA-03113: Error while upgrading the Database from 11.1.0.6 to 11.1.0.7

    Hi,
    I am trying to upgrade the database from 11.1.0.6 to 11.1.0.7 on OEL operating system.
    After applying the patch "6890831" when trying to start the database using "Startup Upgrade" command I am getting the below error.
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    Process ID: 20826
    Session ID: 170 Serial number: 3
    I am getting the same error when trying to create the new database using "DBCA".
    Please provide me the probable outcomes.
    Thanks
    Amith
