Startup trigger 8i - 9i

Hi. I need help with the after startup on database trigger when I migrate from 8i to 9i. I performed DML operations in this trigger so I could update my database before any DML operation was made. Now I have a 9i Oracle database and I want to do the same thing but 9i does not allow me to do that.
Does anybody knows how to make DML operations in this trigger (after startup) in Oracle 9i (if it is still posible) or another way to perform this stuff without using a startup trigger to make the fist DML operations on the database?
Thank you very much.
Walter.

It does not print any error message. I've put a very little update in a table and it just does not do anything the trigger simply skips the updates (8i performs the updates) without a message. Any other way to do this?
Thanks,
Walter

  • Database startup trigger on a RAC

    I cant seem to find a definitive answer to this question in the doc anywhere, and I haven't got a RAC to test it on, but can anyone confirm that a trigger defined as 'AFTER STARTUP ON DATABASE' will fire just once immediately after database open. It will not fire for every node of the RAC - or will it? :-)
    In my understanding, in a rac, there are multiple instances, but just one database. It seems logical therefore that the above trigger will fire just once.
    However, why then would there be a System-Defined Event Attribute "ora_instance_num" available to the database startup trigger? See:
    [See Tables 9-4 and 9-5 here|http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e25519/triggers.htm#g1722284]
    This seems to contradict my assumption.

    On my test RAC database the trigger was fired on each instance startup.
    So when the database is bounced the trigger is executed twice (once per instance for my 2 node RAC).

  • Database startup trigger

    IF i create a trigger that fired on startup of database. In this trigger i just kept the cursors because it is getting reloads and invalidated. cursor spec's just like below address , hash_value , cursor.
    dbms_shared_pool.keep( '4A7A4A6C' , '3165782676' , 'C')
    My question is IS it suitable to create a trigger for that's enviornment. Please clear my doubt.One thing DB startup and shutdown is compulsory.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    May know the OS you are using?
    In windows platform there is no need for startup & shutdown trigger.

  • IPrint Client startup trigger

    In my office environment we are seeing 2 different behaviors by the iPrint client when there is a client update and I'm trying to figure out some things about iPrint so that I can determine whether it or something else is causing a different password lockout issue.
    What is happening is when a computer logs in, if I have the iPrint notifications turned on, I get 2 different behaviors from my systems. There are a large portion that will just log in like normal, but until a printer is selected or print job is sent to it iPrint sits quietly and does nothing obvious, and at that point it will notify of client or printer updates for the user to accept. The other behavior is that after the computer logs in but in the timeframe of the desktop still loading and before opening their first application, iPrint will pop up with update notifications. I am trying to identify what is different between various systems that is causing these different behaviors.
    This is leading me towards troubleshooting an issue that I believe is rooted in iPrint, where when my users update their passwords their accounts get locked. What I think is happening is that these computers where iPrint triggers immediately at login authenticates to iPrint with the old credentials while the user is in the process of updating their password. Once the password changes, the old credentials that have just gone through but are no longer valid cause a lockout, and what usually happens is when a user goes to print a document they get the iPrint login prompt, neither password work, they sign out only to find that they are locked out and IT gets a call to unlock them. I'm not 100% sure that iPrint is the culprit but this issue started after we switched to the iPrint appliance earlier this year and I have to deal with unlocks regularly ever since.
    Any insight on either of these issue is appreciated to help solve this mystery of getting locked out. Thanks!

    Please define slow and where do you see the slowness. I do not know the
    exact fix from HP but i've downloaded the driver, 5.9 pcl6 and installed
    it. I do use as well the shortname feature and i did not see any
    slowness when viewing printer properties nor the system log file shows
    any error. Can you verify that this printer, has indeed, the 5.9 version?

  • Database startup error message

    Hi Guys,
    When I startup my Database, I always see this error message printed in the trace file:
    Error in executing triggers on database startup

    ORA-06512: at line 4
    I have a few questions about the above message:
    1. How can I see which database startup trigger is having this error? Is there a way to determine that?
    2. Is there a way I can disable all triggers that fire on database startup? (just like we can disable triggers on a table)
    3. Any idea what ORA-36961: Oracle OLAP is not available. means?
    Thanks

    hey..thanks for the reply, I have checked to see if any triggers are enabled on startup from the USER_TRIGGERS
    SQL> select TRIGGER_NAME from DBA_TRIGGERS where TRIGGERING_EVENT='STARTUP';
    no rows selected
    SQL>
    But when I start my database, I again see this error message:

    ORA-06512: at line 4
    Is there any way I can check what trigger Oracle is complaining about?
    Also, how can I disable OLAP so that I don't see the OLAP error message?

  • Logon trigger using SRVCTL for dataguard

    Hi All,
    I'm running Oracle 11gR2 using the 11g grid infrastructure. I've a a primary database on one machine and a physical standby on another both registered in the CRS as their role type and hence also their startup type (eg, open, mount stage)
    My issue is, when I fail over (not using broker), the CRS does not recognise that the database has swapped roles, therefore has incorrect information on what to do on startup.
    The command to change this is on the physical standby side is : -
    srvctl modify database -d <physStandby> -s open -r primary
    and on the primary side
    srvctl modify database -d <Primary> -s mount -r physical_standby
    which I can do manually. I've already got a startup trigger on the database to start and stop services on the database depending on what the role is. So I thought I would try and leverage that by executing the SRVCTL command within it as well. So as a quick run, I just created a dbms_Scheduler job in procedure and ran it.
    begin
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.create_job (
    job_name => 'TEST_JOB6',
    JOB_TYPE => 'EXECUTABLE',
    JOB_ACTION => '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/grid/bin/srvctl',
    repeat_interval => null,
    start_date => systimestamp+0.01,
    number_of_arguments => 1
    dbms_Scheduler.set_job_Argument_value (
    job_name => 'TEST_JOB6',
    argument_position => 1,
    argument_value => 'modify database -d <physical_standby> -r PRIMARY'
    dbms_Scheduler.enable('TEST_JOB6');
    END;
    And then I run it : -
    SQL > exec dbms_scheduler.run_job('TEST_JOB6',FALSE);
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL > select additional_info from dba_scheduler_job_run_details where job_name='TEST_JOB6';
    ADDITIONAL_INFO
    <no values here>
    But when I do a srvctl config database -d <physical_standby>
    Database unique name: <physical_standby>
    Database name:
    Oracle home: /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1
    Oracle user: oracle
    Spfile:
    Domain:
    Start options: mount
    Stop options: immediate
    Database role: PHYSICAL_STANDBY # and htis value hasn't changed.
    Management policy: AUTOMATIC
    Disk Groups:
    Services:
    As you can see... nothings changed but it didn't report any errors. Has anyone done somethign similar before?

    Yes, you will have to run the commands as you said manually after each role change if you do not use the Broker.
    As for your job. Hmmm, I would have thought that your job should have worked. Am I correct in assuming that you ran this job after you had switched over to the standby and it is now the Primary?
    We used this type of job in the MAA Client Failover paper (http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/pdf/MAA_WP_10gR2_ClientFailoverBestPractices.pdf) where we had to manually fire the publisher for JDBC Thin clients in 10g.
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER ons_JDBCpublish AFTER DB_ROLE_CHANGE ON DATABASE
    BEGIN
    dbms_scheduler.create_job(
    job_name=>'publish_events',
    job_type=>'executable',
    job_action=>'/u01/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/cfo.sh',
    enabled=>TRUE
    END;
    It might have something to do with the argument part. Try putting the srvctl command in a script and call the wrapper script from the job and see if that works.

  • What are the sample schemas(like scott,hr) in oracle 12c?

    Hi,
    I have just downloaded and installed  the oracle 12c on my desktop(Hurray!), but i don't see any of the sample schemas like scott and hr to play with. Do we have anything like those schemas in 12c?
    Thanks,

    I have just downloaded and installed  the oracle 12c on my desktop(Hurray!), but i don't see any of the sample schemas like scott and hr to play with. Do we have anything like those schemas in 12c?
    Yes - but they would be in a PDB if you installed the sample schemas; you won't find them in the CDB.
    If, like many people new to 12c, you did a default install for a database named ORCL and then connect to ORCL you are connecting to the CDB; that is, the root container. You won't find any sample schema there.
    If you installed the sample schemas then the install process would have created one PDB name PDBORCL (by default) and that PDB would contain the sample schemas.
    Then the next thing users typically do is connect as sysdba and do a STARTUP and then find they can't connect to PDBORCL. Surprise! The PDBs are NOT opened by default; you need to open them manually when you startup the DB or create an AFTER STARTUP trigger that opens the ones you want.

    If I understand the second part of the question correctly you can use DBMS_SERVICE to create an alias on both servers.
    Then depending upon the ROLE they are in you can just connect.
    First an entry need to be added to the client tnsnames.ora that uses a SERVICE_NAME instead of a SID.
    ernie =
    (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
           (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = primary.host)(PORT = 1521))
           (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = standby.host)(PORT = 1521))
           (CONNECT_DATA =
           (SERVICE_NAME = ernie)
    )Next the service 'ernie' needs to be created manually on the primary database.
    BEGIN
       DBMS_SERVICE.CREATE_SERVICE('ernie','ernie');
    END;
    /After creating the service needs to be manually started.
    BEGIN
       DBMS_SERVICE.START_SERVICE('ernie');
    END;Several of the default parameters can now be set for 'ernie'.
    BEGIN
       DBMS_SERVICE.MODIFY_SERVICE
       ('ernie',
       FAILOVER_METHOD => 'BASIC',
       FAILOVER_TYPE => 'SELECT',
       FAILOVER_RETRIES => 200,
       FAILOVER_DELAY => 1);
    END;
    /Finally a database STARTUP trigger should be created to ensures that this service is only offered if the database is primary.
    CREATE TRIGGER CHECK_ERNIE_START AFTER STARTUP ON DATABASE
    DECLARE

    erine is from the Oracle example, you can add whatever you want and then if you do a switchover or failover it is transparent to your users.

    im getting the error
    ORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 501 5.5.2 Syntax error in parameters scanning "FROM"
    kindly help . What is the problem exactly?

    I'm having this same issue now.
    This doesn't happen to my other databases on another server.
    Basically, I have a startup trigger that sends out mail, and I'm finding on database on a particular (new) server, UTL_SMTP is getting this error.
    Have you figured out your root cause?

  • Shared versus dedicated connections in the fragmentation of shared pool mem

    Hi,
    I have a old Oracle 8.1.7 database server.
    I have a legacy application with no source code. This application don't use memory efficiently (no bind variables, etc.) , ie memory becomes fragmented.
    I know that exists two ways to connect the database (dedicated and shared)
    Based on this, I want to know which of the two options creates more fragmentation. I know that recommendation is to use dedicated connection, but I'm not sure if this is recomendation is applicable in this particular environment.
    Thanks in advance.

    Whether you use shared or dedicated connections makes no difference for fragmentation in the shared pool. Whether your hard parse or do not hard parse does matter.
    Measures you can take
    - make sure often used packages like dbms_standard are pinned in the shared pool using a startup trigger
    - set session_cached_cursors to 50 or 100. This will reduce parsing.

  • ORA-01033 Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress error

    Hi All,
    I am using windows 7 on my 64-bit machine, and I installed oracle database 12c. Everything was installed fine, and i was able to connect to the HR schema. However, the next day when I wanted to connect, I got the ORA-01033 Oracle initialization or shutdown in progress error. What did I do wrong ? and what can I do to fix it ?? Thank you for the help.

    Sorry but there are NO SHORTCUTS!
    I already answered that above and referred you to the docs and an article.
    The doc chapters explain the NEW multitenant architecture in detail. The new 12c architecture is SUBSTANTIALLY different from previous architectures. Until you read the docs about it and understand how it has been implemented you will continue to have NOTHING but problems.
    I know that may sound like just another RTFM but for 12c it is imperative that you understand the new architecture if you want to avoid problems. There is no way to explain it all in the forums; Oracle takes a good two chapters just to cover the basics.
    I also pointed you to an article that shows how to startup the CDB and PDBs manually or write a STARTUP trigger to do it automatically.
    Hopefully you are doing all of this in a VM environment as you seemingly implied in one of your other threads?
    https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2594464
    There are already some VM templates available for 12c

  • Upgrade APEX 4 CentOS 5.5

    I'm trying to update my Oracle XE APEX(2.1) to APEX 4.I'm running CentOS.
    I'm connecting to the server via putty. I'm connected to the server as oracle user.
    I've followed the installation tutorial, and everything goes well untill i need to run:
    "@apexins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/ "
    It shows error: ORA-01034: ORACLE not available.
    I've done: "startup;" and i think it's started since if i run this command again it says:
    "ORA-44410: XE edition single instance violation error"
    I think my variables are fine:
    PATH=/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin:/usr/kerberos/sbin:...
    ORACLE_HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server
    ORACLE_SID=asdb
    Thank you very much!

    Please can someone pop over to this post and comment if relevant?
    No - when you post in a forum you need to provide ALL of the infomation needed to help you. You can certainly reference other posts as needed but it is not appropriate to ask forum readers to read another thread to even find out what the issue is.
    If your thread is appropriate for the APEX forum then mark this current thread ANSWERED. If you want to continue in this new thread then mark the one in the APEX forum ANSWERED.
    I am an APEX developer using the Virtualbox 12c VM for development and prototyping.
    Recently, I upgraded APEX to the latest release and have a non APEX related issue to do with 12c (I think) and the DB now in restricted mode.
    A DB trigger does not seem to unrestrict this but I can do it manually which I do not wish to do each time the server is restarted.
    You should NOT be using a trigger to do that to begin with.
    A DB does not normally open in restricted mode so you should not normally need to force it to open normally.
    If your PDB is already open in restricted mode then shut it down normally. If there are no errors then a standard open should open it normally. That standard open would normally be executed when connected to the root container (the CDB) or by an AFTER STARTUP trigger that executes in the root container.

  • Read last shutdown information

    Hello.
    Where can I read information about last shutdown (a type of shutdown - normal, transactional, immediate, abort ...)?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    In that case you can write a startup and shutdown trigger on the database.
    In the shutdown trigger,
    -You would add a record in your table (say log table), all the details which you need to analyze by your client application.
    The below is optional if you want to check for abort condition.
    In the startup trigger.
    -You would add a record about the timing of the startup of the database.
    - Moreover you would also check the last inserted record. If the last inserted record was that of startup. This would mean that the last shutdown was not a clear shutdown could be a result of crash/abort (As it does not fire the shutdown trigger). If this is the case you would make a entry of shutdown here (time of shutdown would not be known but you can do approximation from v$log / v$archived_log).
