Statspack in 11g

Statspack is still available in 11g for those who do not have AWR license.
I am seeing that ELAPSED_TIME of stats$sql_summary is overstated by the factor of loaded_versions.
The elapsed_time does not add up to difference between snapshots for some of the extremely long-running queries
but all the "deltas" between snapshots are multiplied by the number of loaded versions.
Did anyone see this?

  • Spdoc.txt of Statspack didn't modified in Oracle Release 11.2 (11g R2)

    Hi all
I downloaded Oracle 11g R2 for Linux and reading the spdoc.txt with it. I found it had not been updated since 2007 11g Release 1.
Do that mean the statspack not be supported anymore from now on ?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
    This is form oracle docs
A set of SQL, PL/SQL, and SQL*Plus scripts that allow the collection, automation, storage, and viewing of performance data. This feature has been replaced by the Automatic Workload Repository.[http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10821/glossary.htm#PFGRF95076]
Note: If your site does not have the AWR and ADDM features, then you can use Statspack to gather Oracle database instance statistics.
This is clear that oracle will not do any updations to statspack.

    Hi Summit,
In oracle 11g you will be finding the spcreate.sql script in the same directory as hemant said just run that script
    @@$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/spcreate.sql
And follow the normal procedure which you do for creating the statspack report using the perfstat user
can you please refer to below link for more details:

  • Parse times in Oracle 11G

Has anyone else experienced extremely long parse times for Oracle 11G versus 10G? We are experiencing at least a 10 times increase in the parsing of our SQL statements. This is causing our customers to complain when running reports which contain several SQL statements that aren't in the SGA due to the infrequent use. I have opened a Service Request and development stated that this is to be expected with Oracle 11G due to the new optimizer features. I have tried to disable the features by settting the optimizer version to anything but 11G and no setting has helped. To make thing even worse, this increased parse time is on a new server that should be 2.5 times faster than the server that is running the 10G database. I do get at least a 2.5 times increase, larger if I/O intensive, in almost every other aspect of the database except for the parse times.

    user5999814 wrote:
I wondered what the resolution was to this issue. We currently experiencing this will our Oracle 11.1.0.7 database with a small but important set of queries and it seems to be getting worse. We first noticed it with a query that went from taking 3.5 seconds to 7 seconds. A SQLTrace / TKProf revealed that 99% of the time was being spent during the parsing. A second similar query that brings in more data is taking around 1.5 minutes to parse then only a few seconds to actually execute. These are queries that are part of on online web transaction so this is not acceptable. We are able to replicate the behavior in multiple database instances. As a starting point it would be interesting to see the tkprof output from :
    alter session set events '10046 trace name context forever, level 8';
    +your select statement+
exitWhen posting the output, use the "code" tags (see below) to make the output readable.

  • Queries slow after upgrade to 11g from 10g

    Hi experts,
I've recently installed 11g and did a full import of my 10g db into it. We are currently testing our apps in 11g and we are finding that existing queries were running slower. For example, a complex query that used to run 4secs is now taking 60secs in 11g. We surely don't want to change existing queries because there's just too many of them.
    I have run statistics:
    EXEC dbms_stats.gather_system_stats();
    EXEC dbms_stats.gather_database_stats(estimate_percent=> 100);
I'd appreciate your suggestions to resolve this issue.
    THanks
    Giovanni

    EXEC dbms_stats.gather_system_stats();
    EXEC dbms_stats.gather_database_stats(estimate_percent=> 100);
How does this compare with the way you collected statistics in your 10g system. Changes in statistics collection method can have a very unlucky impact on performance. (You mention in a follow-up post that you don't have histograms in 10g; your call to gather database stats will collect histograms by default in 11g - to avoid them you need to use method_opt => 'for all columns size 1')
There may be some particularly unlucky queries where the optimizer choose to do a new 11g transform that just does suit your data. One testing strategy is to set optimizer_features_enabled back to 10g (mores specifically the 10.x.x.x form it was on your previous release) to see if this bypasses the problems. If it does then you could use the optimizer_features_enable hint temporarily in just those queries that were misbehaving.

  • Importing Statistics - Oracle 11g upgrade

    Hi,
We are in the middle for planning for migration of oracle 9.2.0.8 database hosted in HP-UX to oracle 11gR2 to Linix. The database size is 1 TB ( 400GB of table data & 600GB of index data).
Please let us know whether we can use the option of import/export the statistics from the Oraclr 9i to oradle 11g database. The database is highly OLTP/Batch. Will it be any Query performance problem due to the statistics import from oracle 9i to oracle 11g.
Any suggestion are welcome and let me know if you need any more information.
    thanks,
    Mahesh

    Hello,
Please let us know whether we can use the option of import/export the statistics from the Oraclr 9i to oradle 11g databaseIf I were you, when the data are imported to the 11g Database I would refresh the Statistics by using the dbms_stats Package.
Then, you can test the most common queries on the new Database. If some perfomance troubles appear, you can use classical tools (Statspack, Explain Plan, TKPROF,...) or some useful tools you have in 11g as SQL Tuning Advisor or SQL Access Advisor :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e16638/sql_tune.htm#PFGRF028
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e16638/advisor.htm#PFGRF008
    Hope this help.

Also we have problems related to the bug Bug 9593134 that “Connections to Oracle 11g are slow and can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 2 minutes.” there is a fix on linux by removing the dns names on it but anyone have experience on windows platforms?
Thanks for all and sorry for my english.
    Regards.

Regarding the long connection times, have you tried using network packet capture software (such as Wireshark) to determine what the client computer is doing when a connection attempt is initiated?
The Oracle Database time model statistics, along with the system wide wait events may help you diagnose the non-connection related performance issues (you should not just look at the statistics, but instead capture the current values, wait a period of time, capture the statistics again, and compare the changes in the statistic values). A statspack report might also help you - but a 10046 trace at level 8 or 12 is more appropriate if you are able to identify a couple of sessions that experience performance problems.
I do not suggest just blindly modifying parameters, although I am curious to know:
    * Why the session level parameter OPEN_CURSORS is set to 5000 - do you expect a single session to hold open 5,000 cursors?
    * Why are you using the deprecated RULE based optimizer?
    * Why is the MEMORY_TARGET parameter used when the SGA_TARGET and PGA_AGGREGATE target are specified?

  • Which tool is used for Oracle 11g performance tuning?

    Hi all
I used statspack for 9i's performance tuning.
But with 11g R2 now I want to know which way are you using to do performance tuning?
Statspack? OSW? RDA? ADDM? Or other ways?
    Thank you.

    SriniThanks for your answer.
To read the MOS documents I need a Oracle Customer ID , is that right ?
(Where to get that ID ? Our company bought Oracle 10g without any Customer IDs in it )

  • How To Determine Oracle 11g Issues

Is there a script or way I can run a health check or data integrity on a Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.3) database server I don't own or have any experience with? I'm being handed a 11.2 11g Enterprise Edition & would like to see what the state of the database is and the included data. Is there somewhere I can start or some kind of script I can run to determine if this machine is doing well or needs specific attention?

    CarlosinFL wrote:
I'm not sure how else to state this but if you were given a database server you didn't configure or use, you would like to know if there are invalid schema entries, What is an invalid schema entry?
critical database operational errors, Presumably, those would be logged in the alert log
performance problems, It's impossible, in general, to script that. You'd need to know what the performance requirements of the system are. You can run an AWR/ Statspack report and see that, for example, the server has been under heavy load. But it's impossible for a script to differentiate between "everything is operating as expected, the system is well tuned so that we can use as much of the hardware as possible" and "oh crud, response times just went through the roof and users are lighting up the phones with complaints"
loads of junk in the recycle bin, etc etc etc...Why do you care what's in the recycle bin? That's just space that Oracle is free to use when it needs to use it, there is no harm in having tons of objects and data in the recycle bin.
I have no experience with this server so I would like to analyze it and find out what / where attention is needed. That generally requires conversations with the users that depend on the system and the documentation around the system as much, if not more so, than running scripts against the database. You'll want to see what the written backup and recovery plan is, for example, and you'll probably want to verify that you can follow the plan and recover the last set of backups. No script is going to be able to tell you whether the last set of backups are recoverable, how they were taken, whether the documentation is up to date, whether the plan itself is reasonable, etc. You'll want to talk with users to understand how they use the system, what the performance requirements are, what problems, if any, they have, etc. Depending on the organization, that may involve looking at the bug tracking/ issue tracking/ ticket tracking application(s), it may involve conversations with humans, etc.

Regards,You dont need to take statspack reports anymore in 11gR2 use AWR instead. AWR has its advance functionality and includes almost everything to know whats running in instance.
Yes you can generate AWR report from OEM too.
from sql prompt you can run like
    SQL>@?/rdbms/admin/awrrpt.sql
(specify begin snaphot time and end snapshot time)
you can have HTML or Text file as output.
And these will be created on you current OS path. hope this help.

  • Reg: Statspack Tablespace Size

    Hello All,
    Oracle 11g standard edition
    version: 11.2.0.1
    Statspack snap details:
    low snap id : 1424
    high snap id: 2648
    Tablespace Details (before purge)
    Tablespace name: STATSPACK
    Total Size(MB): 1024
    Free Space(MB): 309
I executed sppurge.sql script to delete the above range of statspack snaps.
    Tablespace Details (after purge)
    Tablespace name: STATSPACK
    Total Size(MB): 1024
    Free Space(MB): 309
Why the free space remained same even after purge?

    I issued the following statement
    select b.tablespace_name, tbs_size SizeMb, a.free_space FreeMb
    from  (select tablespace_name, round(sum(bytes)/1024/1024 ,2) as free_space
           from dba_free_space
           group by tablespace_name) a,
          (select tablespace_name, sum(bytes)/1024/1024 as tbs_size
           from dba_data_files
           group by tablespace_name) b
    where a.tablespace_name(+)=b.tablespace_name;

  • STATSPACK.SNAP GOT ORA-1652 ON 11.1

    Hi,
This is related to bug BUG:8323663/8226792 in 11.1 and Oracle support has confirmed that this is fixed in 11.2. They have not provided any fix in 11.1.
However, if you are stuck with 11.1 database, you can use the following solution as a fix to this issue:
    1. Connect to the database as sys
    2. Recreate the following view with the below command:
create or replace view STATS$V_$FILESTATXS as
    select /*+RULE */ ts.name      tsname
    , df.name filename
    , fs.phyrds
    , fs.phywrts
    , fs.readtim
    , fs.writetim
    , fs.singleblkrds
    , fs.phyblkrd
    , fs.phyblkwrt
    , fs.singleblkrdtim
    , fw.count wait_count
    , fw.time time
    , df.file#
    from x$kcbfwait fw
    , v$filestat fs
    , v$tablespace ts
    , v$datafile df
    where ts.ts# = df.ts#
    and fs.file# = df.file#
    and fw.indx+1 = df.file#;
    3. Run the statspack.snap procedure and it should run quicker.
    Enjoy...

I don't suppose so and that the package was already invalid before... but not sure...
How to correct? I found similar cases where Oracle oly suggested catalog/catproc runs... but I would like to avoid if possible...

  • NULL and Unspecified in Dashboard prompts after upgrading 10g to 11g OBIEE

    Hi All,
We are working on OBI upgradation project from 10g to 11.1.1.6.5. We are facing one issue in Dashboard prompt level. If we can create Dashboard prompt on a column, its giving "NULL", "Unspecified" additionally. But, in 10g there are no extra values.
And the 10g, 11g instances are pointing to the same database and there are no NULL, Unspecified values in Database level.
Through some blogs and articles we found some solutions n are below.
    To remove NULL:
-->Go to the Physical Column properties in Physical Layer and Disable the Nullable option by uncheck the box.
-->Go to the Database Features in Physical Layer and disable value to NULL_SUPPORTED.
-->Go to Edit Dashboard Prompt, in Choice List Values drop-down list select SQL Results.
    To remove Unspecified:
-->Go to Edit Dashboard Prompt, in Choice List Values drop-down list select SQL Results, then write the SQL statements as columnname is not equals to "Unspecfied" ( In this way we can able to remove Null's also.)
-->Go to Content tab of LTS, in Where clause write an SQL query to restrict Unspecified values.
Note: CHeck with ETL, because if they maintains the Default value is Null when the Datatype is Character and they can maintain 9999 or #### if the datatype is Numeric. And check the Physical query and debug it carefully.
But, we have very big Repository and we have huge no.of Dashboard prompts. So, its not an easy thing to manage by using above solutions. Correct me if there are any mistakes in above.
    Any ideas on this...?
    Appreciate your help on this..!
    Thanks in Advance,
    Raghu Nagadasari

    Hi Frnds,
As of now, i found the only solution for the above mentioned issue that how to avoid NULL in dashboard prompt level:
Go to the Physical Column properties in Physical Layer and Disable the Nullable option by uncheck the box.
We have done this manually for all tables.
Appreciate if u have any other ideas.!!
    Thanks,
