Step vs stepwise consolidation

Hi all,
I could not find the setting to choose between step consolidation and stepwise consolidation.
In term of CG & CU hierarchy structure design, how can such design clearly distingush between the two consolidation approach?
Thanks in advance.

Jasmine

Hi,
But then what is the real benefit of using subassignments? Why do some people decide to go for the "subassignment" approach, instead of using the "matrix" ?
I am not sure, but according to the following example, I think that "Subassignments" could be used to get step 1, but not step 2.
Example: Legal Entity "1" and Legal Entity "2" both have Business Areas "A" and "B"
A consolidation of these 2 Business Area means a 2 steps process:
Step 1: Consolidate Business Areas (eliminations within the same Business Areas):
Consolidation of BA "A" :       eliminate LE "1" + BA "A" against LE "2" + BA"A".
Consolidation of BA "B" :       eliminate LE "1" + BA "B" against LE "2" + BA"B".
Step 2: Consolidate Both Business Areas (eliminations between different Business Areas):
eliminate LE "1" + BA "A" against LE "1" + BA"B".
eliminate LE "2" + BA "A" against LE "2" + BA"B"
eliminate LE "1" + BA "A" against LE "2" + BA"B".
eliminate LE "2" + BA "A" against LE "1" + BA"B".

    hello Ravi,
    Thanks for your reply.
I'm not very clear with your point. you mean we dont need to set time dimension in either row or colomn of the report?  this will automatically aggregate all the value from history time to the date which selected in the CV(current view)?

  • The HFM Consolidation Mystery

    Hi,
I am looking to optimise the rules files that is being used for consolidation. I would like to have a clear understanding of how the consolidation exactly happens, thwe concept of subcubes, performace best practices, use of virtual memory and physical memory, detailed consolidation log files etc. Do we have some documentation that throws light on these topics?
I have referred the admin guide and it seems to explain the logical steps involved during consolidation and not the more technical details like memory utilization and the concept of sub cubes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers!!!
    Lijoy

    Kelly,
Thanks for the help. But training does not seem an option as of now.
    Just a few questions.
Does the consolidation time include time needed to read/write the data into the dataBase. Is this value considerable compared to the total time taken for consolidation?
I have tried to implement certain timers onto the rule files to check the exact time taken for consolidating each POV. However, the total summation of times shown by the timers is merely half of the total consolidation time. What are the other process that may be taking the extra amount of time?
I would like to get a knowhow on where the remaining time is being used?

  • Breakdown structure in consolidation

what do you mean by breakdown structure in consolidation

    Dear Saleema,
I hope that you are asking about Breakdown Category in Consolidation. Let me try to be brief as well clear as much as possible. You need to know about FS item and subassignment to understand breakdown category.
I think you are aware of Financial Statement(FS) item in Consolidation. It is the central accounting assignment object of the consolidation system. It identifies a monetary value or quantity entry and can be differentiated with further sub assignments.
This subassignments further helps in differentiate(breakdown) the values of the FS item.
    The standard sub-assignments are:
Partner Unit-useful for interunit elimination and reconciliation
for the elimination of interunit profit/loss in inventory
Investee Unit-The investee unit is used for recording values at investment holding items.
Transaction Type-helps to see the changes to financial statement items over time.
Transaction Currency Key-The transaction currency key is stored in the data basis whenever a transaction currency is used.
Unit of Measure-The unit of measure is stored in the data basis whenever quantities are used. It must be fixed in the breakdown category.
Year and Period of Acquisition-The year and period of an acquisition are analogous to the fiscal year and period. The current fiscal year and period are used as defaults. The period of acquisition requires that the year of acquisition is contained in the data basis.
I think that you could able to visualise how important these subassignments are for the purpose of undertaking various steps in the consolidation exercise.
At last and not the least, the break down category assigned to the FS items takes care whether the given FS item has subassignment.
If there is no subassignment of 'Partner unit' in FS items of AR and AP, we will not be able to perform inter unit elimination of receivables/payables.
Trust this helps much and answers to your query!
    Cheers,

  • Consolidation setting

    Hi All,
I have a query what setting/config. will differentiate between Step and Simultaneous consolidation in SEM BCS?
    Regards,
    Magesh

    Hi Collet,
We have a scenario in which we have 2 levels of COI, level 1 & 2. At level 2 we execute COI keeping group currency as USD and then use copy task and copy the value from USD to INR. Again at level 1 we execute COI keeping group currency as INR.
When we execute COI at level 1 system is computing again MI for all the companies under level 2 but we dont want the MI to be calculated for level 2 companies at level1. We would like to know which setting in the system will stop the system from calculating MI for level 2 companies.

  • Running Consolidation wipes out beginning balances

    Hi all,
I have a when I am running the consolidation package, the reporting currency beginning balances get wiped out. Here are the steps...
    1. 2012.DEC ACTUAL balances are in both Local currency and in the reporting currency.
    2. For the forecast ACTUAL balances will be the opening balances so we have configured the category dimension for forecast to pull in the opening balances from ACTUAL
    3. We first run the opening balances package to pull the data from ACTUAL and then run the consolidations on forecast category to run the intercompany elims and ownership
    4. I confirmed that we have configured the flow/category dimensions properly with all the required properties for consolidation
I separated out the group conversion step from the consolidation package and commented out that code. So, now I just have the following code in logic script:
    *RUN_PROGRAM CONSOLIDATION
    CATEGORY = %VERSION_SET%
    GROUP = %SCOPE_SET%
    TID_RA = %TIME_SET%
    *ENDRUN_PROGRAM
Any idea why would this happen?? Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mandar

    Hi Mandar,
you are certain, that your opening balances get wiped out by the above script and not the conversion to group ppart? Which datasource are we talking about?
Please share the rules that you use in your consolidation.
    BR,
    Arnold

    Hi
    STO:
    STO CONFIG:
The following steps have to be followed in order to configure stock transport order between two plants.
    1. Create a vendor for the Company code of the receiving plant using account group 0007 via T-Code XK01.
    2. In the purchasing data view assign the supplying plant and the schema group
    3. Create customer with the sales area of the vendor.
    4. The shipping conditions, the delivering plant and the transportation zone determine the route in the STO.
    5. In the pricing procedure determination relevant to the STO assign document pricing procedure and customer pricing procedure to get the pricing in the invoice.
    6. Maintain condition records for pricing condition.
    7. Maintain carrier as a partner in the customer master.
    8. In OMGN select the supplying plant and assign the company code and sales area. Similarly select the receiving plant and assign the company code and sales area (The company code to which the plant is assigned to).
    9. Assign the delivery type and checking rule to the document type.
    10. And finally, assign the purchasing document type to the supplying plant and the receiving plant.
    11. Create the STO using T-Code ME 21N and save.
    12. Check for release strategy if any and release using T-Code ME 28.
    13. Create delivery in background using VL10G.
    14. If delivery is created, it is an indication of correct configuration and master data creation.
Stock transfer between two plants in different company codes is known as inter company stock transfer.
Material should be maintained in both supplying and receiving plant MM01
Stock should maintain only in supplying plant MB1C
Create receiving plant as a customer in supplying plants company code and sales area XD01
Assign this customer number in receiving plant details OMGN
Assign supplying sales area in supplying plant details OMGN
Assign delivery type NB for in combination of supplying/ receiving plants.

  • SEM ConsMonitor Authorization check R_UC_TASK activity A3

    Hello,
I have a problem in the Consolidation Monitor authority check for tasks.
We want the users to be able to set the status 'Lock by user'. The  authorization object R_UC_TASK is using the same activity (A3) for  'Lock by user' and 'Reset'.
Is there a chance to tell the system to use different activities for these two action steps in the Consolidation Monitor?
    Thanx for any idea.

I posted the same question at SOLUTIONS-SEM BCS and got an answer there.

  • How to perform Step Consolidation?

    Hi All,
I want to perform Step Consolidation (a multi-level consolidation where a Group of Entities holds another Subgroup). First I want to consolidate the SUBGROUP (S1) and then the GROUP. The hierarchy is like the one below:
    GROUP
    E1                       (Parent: GROUP)
    E2                       (Parent: GROUP)
    E_S1                   (Parent: GROUP)
    S1
    E3                           (Parent: S1)
    E4               (Parent: S1)
I created a member named E_S1 which stores the results of Subgroup Consolidation (in Group Dimension in the ID member that is used for the Subgroup consolidation (G_S1), the property u201CEntityu201D is filled with the entity E_S1 and the property u201CStore_Entityu201D is set to u201CYu201D). The Subgroup S1 is out of the legal hierarchy. I proceed to this solution since I wanted to fill in the Ownership accounts (method, Pown, Pcon, etc) for the contribution of the Subgroup to Group and I could not enter data in parent members.
The SUBGROUP consolidation is done correctly. The results are stored in the Group member u201CG_S1u201D. The same results are also stored in the Entity u201CE_S1u201D and Group member u201CG_S1u201D.  But in order to run consolidation for the GROUP I have to transfer the results of E_S1 to the Local Currency because the GROUPu2019s consolidated data will be stored in Group member u201CG_GROUPu201D.
Certainly, this can be done by a script, but my question is if this is supported by the application and can be done automatically.
Is this a correct approach for the case of step consolidation?
    Thank you in advance
    Maria

    Hi Maria
There are GROUP_CURRENCY and STORE_GROUP_CURR property in the group dimension.
Could you try to use them to force a copy of the consolidated values in the LC or C_GROUP currency ?

  • Step Consolidation

    Hi all
I'm having a problem with my requirement in Step Consolidation
The scenario is that when the frist level consolidation is consolidated. the consolidated values will be put on a dummy entity as LC so this values will be used in the second level consolidation since Company id has been replaced it should also have a unique intco that is use for interco elim
my problem is that how will i handle the interco since every company will be possibly having an interco in other companies outside its group
maybe you can give me some advice what is the best practice
    thanks

    Hi Rajat,
The good news is that there's no need for you to create two consolidation applications.
The first thing you need to do is set-up two groups for your two different consolidation levels, and in your ownership app ensure that the correct entities are assigned to each group.  This will allow the system to differentiate intercompany postings according the Group in question.
If you want to store the sub-consolidation results against a specific entity please do the following:
    - Create a new entity e.g. Sub Consol Company 3
    - In the Store_Entity property of your group dimension enter Y against your consol group used for the sub consol
    - In the Entity property of your group dimension enter e.g. Sub Consol Company 3
When you process the automatic consolidation rules the engine will save the sub consolidation results against the Sub Consol Company 3 allowing you to see the step consolidation results.
Fortunately if you're running a 7.5 system help is at hand.  I recommend that you install the IFRS appset to see a working example of this config, the documentation around the solution is very good.
    Good luck!
    Stuart

  • Problem with step Acquision and subsequnet consolidation

    Hi Gurus,
I am trying to do step acquision, problem is as follows.
A Ltd having % of holding @ first consolidation in BLtd 60%.
I have executed COI and posted elimination entries with 60%
In the next consolidation period I have increased my % of holding to 70%
I have executed COI task in the next period, system is taking that additional 10% only for subsequent consolidation.
Not referring old 60% ie 60%+10%=70%
    System taking 0.00 => 10.00
Please help me to resolve the issue.
    Thanks in Advance
    Naveen

    Hi,
Normally the COI activities as follows:
1.First Consolidation u2013 Occurs when a new consolidation unit is acquired / established and it is consolidated within the group.
2.Subsequent Consolidation u2013 Occurs when a consolidation unit is already consolidated in the group and the only changes in its equity are due to changes in the retained earnings. In the case of a subsequent consolidation the minority interests in the above mentioned items are posted.
3.Increase or Decrease in Capitalization u2013 Occurs when there is a proportional increase / reduction of the equity and of the participation, without any changes in the percentage of ownership. In the case of an increase / reduction in capitalization, the increase in the stockholdersu2019 equity is offset with the change in the book value of the participation.
4.Step Acquisition u2013 Occurs when there is an increase in the book value of a participant already consolidated and in the percentage of ownership. In the case of a step acquisition, the increase in the book value of the participation is offset with the change in the minority interests. Therefore, there is a reclassification between the minority interest items and the stockholdersu2019 equity items of the subsidiary, due to the change in the percentage of ownership.
5.Distribution of Dividends u2013 For subsidiary companies only
The system is taking only 10% because it is taking only the changes in its equity are due to changes in the retained earnings.   Execute balance carry forward then the COI in  next consolidation period is in same fiscal year. This should work now.
