Hi i wrote a post yesterday asking for help, and i got some good advice which i have been able to use, but i still cant get to what i need to get, and im still not sure if its possible to do :-S
My idea1:
* I want to have a 3D cube which rotates using the mouse
* When the user clicks on a face it opens up a simple gui, different gui for each face
Any one got any idea how, or any idea on how i could go about it?
My Idea2:
* I want to have a 3D cube which rotates using the mouse
* Each face has 9 smaller boxes
* When a small box is clicked it opens up a windows application like Word or Excel
Is this possible?

If you know where your viewplatform is and you have given each face it's own TransformGroup (necessary if you want to move them independantly of one another) then you just need to create a behaviour that is activated when the face is picked and moves the face transformgroup to be right in front of the viewplatform. You probably want to animate this so it doesn't just instantly translate from where it was clicked to right in front of the view.
Behaviours are a bit hard to get your head around and you will probably need to go back to the tutorials on them- for this I would have a behaviour with two wakeupconditions and swap between them so once the first picking has been triggered it runs once per frame until the transform is complete and then it waits for another signal to send it back again.

You should have timezone support off to get events to stay in "floating time". I'm not sure what will happen to the events with timezone data already if you turn it off. I would expect iCal to make some attempt to resolve events in different timezones, that is not probably not what you want.
IMO the only logical thing is if you travel though timezones is to set the timezone and time of the event to the place and time it actiually is, but you say you will not.

The iphone and ipad must be connected to the same icloud account. Are you by chance using different IDs to connect from each device?

Printable iTunes & still confused about cd artwork

Hiya,
Is there a way to have iTunes print out all of the info for the cds I have in it? Mainly artist and album title. It'd save filing them into something like Excel for my records.
Also, I'm still confused about the artwork iTunes plugs in for my cds. Either it doesn't have the artwork or its wrong. I know I can delete it, but replacing it is what I can't figure out. I was told to drag and drop it into the artwork viewer, but drag and drop it from where? The iTunes music store? My own file (which I tried and it doesn't work)? I tried opening two windows of iTunes to try the drag/drop, but that doesn't work either.
One last thing, I don't like the new back-up feature of burning cds of my catalog, instead I copy the entire thing onto an external hard drive. Is there an easier way to do this? I know I have to save all of the iTunes info so that my playlists still show up, but when all I mainly need to do is save any new music & playlists I find it takes so long because I have to end up re-saving everything (and at over 11k songs, that takes a while). Any suggestions to help speed up the process?

The iTunes method isn't obsolete for everybody, but it's something you don't need to worry about unless you were already using it or you want to exchange data belonging to apps that do not (yet) support iCloud.
Being able to flag one of your own responses as helpful or as a solution may seem strange, but it has a possible useful application. If you found a clue or an answer in another venue and returned here to report it, you could flag your report as helpful or a solution to give credit to the other venue or the person who entered it there. You aren't supposed to be able to give yourself points, though.

What you were saying is that I have to configure my Airport Extreme to the same settings that are now on this G5 and change the G5 settings to DHCP.
Sorry to be a bother. I just returned from a long trip and am getting ready to install the Airport Extreme. Would the software we simple enough for me to understand and just follow the instructions that Apple supplies?

Older DSL modem require that the device connected to them supply the PPPoE sign-on information. However, I've seen DSL modems that can store and supply PPPoE sign-on information so that the device connected to them doesn't need to.

DHCP is "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol". It's intended to provide an Internet client with all the information (IP address, etc.) that it needs.

Still confused: Apogee Ensemble or Symphony or Rosetta or ? with new setup

I'm planning on buying a MacBook Pro and Logic Studio.
I'm confused, though, as to which Apogee interface to buy.
Most of what I will be doing with either be:
(1) 1 track at a time where I have my Shure KSM44 mic plugged into my Universal Audio SOLO/610 tube preamp, and that going into the Apogee interface. I think in this case, even the Duet would suffice.
(2) 8 drum mics plugged into my Focusrite OctoPre (8-channel preamp); I assume, then, that I will go ADAT out into the Apogee interface, right? In this case, the Duet is out because it has no such interface.
So, do I get Ensemble, Symphony, Rosetta, X-this or that? I'm confused. I think the Ensemble is the right answer, but if my OctoPre goes into the Apogee via ADAT, I'll never need 8 channels of input, right? So do I get one of the others? Also, would one of those other require that ExpressCard so can connect to my MacBook Pro?
I heard that maye the Rosetta or Symphony or both had better A/D converters than the Ensemble, but not sure.

Either the Ensemble or the Rosetta 800 would suit your needs fine, but to make it work with the Rosetta 800, you'd also need the optional X-firewire card. Symphony is out unless you have a BIG budget, because it is designed to be used with external converters, meaning it still requires a Rosetta or an AD-16, etc.
Points to consider:
1) Rosetta is stated to be a step up from the Ensemble in terms of converter quality. I have an Ensemble and I think it is VERY good from a converter standpoint though.
2) Rosetta has no headphone outputs, but Ensemble has 2 independent headphone outs.
3) Rosetta has 8 channels of ADAT SMUX I/O (at 88.1 or 96k), while Ensemble has only 4 at 88.1 or 96k. However, for normal ADAT I/O (44.1 or 48k), both units have 8 channels.
4) Rosetta has no microphone preamps, but Ensemble has 4 very good ones. In your setup, that means a Rosetta would need to use your Octopre inputs, and I'm pretty sure the Octopre isn't as good as the Apogee converters. Still, because you need 8 at a time, then you'd still need to use at least 4 preamps from your Octopre along with Ensemble since Ensemble only has 4 preamps.
5) Budget: If budget is a concern, there's no question that the Ensemble is the best choice because the street price difference between an Ensemble (about $1950) and an X-Firewire equipped Rosetta 800 (about $305) is about $1100. Plus, with Rosetta, you still need to buy a headphone preamp and either run it alongside Rosetta, or sacrifice one of the Rosetta outputs to be used for headphones.

Still confused over fup changes to Total BB option...

There still seems to be confusion over the planned changes for Total BB Option 1 customers.
Although KerryG has informed us that the monthly allowance will remain at 10Gb and the charge for additional use will be changing to £5 per 5Gb, BT customer services seem to think the extra usage charge remains the same as it is now.

Usage allowance – will remain at 10GB
Additional usage charges – they will be charged at 5GB for £5 (rather than 1GB for £1) as from November 1st 2010.

Still Confused with Previews, Thumbnails etc.

Hi All,
So i'm very new to Aperture, and that business about JPEG previews and thumbnails still has me thoroughly confused. So i understand that when you are shooting RAW, when you hit the play button, what you see in the rear screen is the JPEG preview. So when you first view your photos on a computer without importing, is this the same preview? When you then double click onto the photo again without importing, is this the RAW or the JPEG? After importing, without clicking, are you seeing the same JPEG preview or a completely new thumbnail?
I know if you then double click a photo, Aperture processes the photo into actual RAW file. Thing is, this file is very different to the JPEG preview, the photo you saw on the rear screen of your camera. Some are even cropped substantially so that you lose some sky or part of a building. Is this normal? Is there then a way to retain or revert to the JPEG preview you preferred?

Because the word preview has a paerticular meaning in Aperture (See below) I'll say, yes that's correct but what you see is a Jpeg Version of the photo. In other words, the camera has processed the Raw and applied various fixes and filters and that's what it shows you.

No it doesn't, and it's a really big distinction. Aperture processes nothing. When you view a photo Aperture is just showing you the Raw - the unprocessed image that the camera version is based on.
If the camera is cropping and radically altering the image from the raw to the jpeg then I think you need to look at the camera settings. I can't think why a camera would choose to crop a photo when processing it.

Sreen sharing...searched forums, but i am still confused

I have enabled in system preferences for another 10.5.7 user to share my screen. I assigned him a password and sent him the IP address. But now we are confused....how does he actually get to my mac...sorry if i am being brain dead here.....but i don't even know how to use ichat.

Unless you need to allow this other user to share/access your screen when you are not there, you don't need to have enabled anything in system preferences. The both of you could do this from iChat.
So here are two condensed primers on "attended" screen sharing and "unattended" screen sharing:
1. "Attended" screen sharing: You both are at your computers and you both have video-capable iChat and you both are currently engaged in a video chat with one another. In iChat's menubar, under "Buddies", there is a "Share My screen" choice and a "Ask to Share (my buddy's) Remote Screen." You select one or the other depending on who's doing what and follow the prompts. I've only done that once myself, so can't remember all the particulars about ending screen sharing and regaining video (as I recall, the camera video was preempted to carry the remote screen) but I believe audio was still carried, certainly text chat was still carried. You both need to have AOL instant message accounts (sign up at https://new.aol.com/freeaolweb?ncid=snsuswebr00000034&promocode=825297). You do not need to download any AOL/AIM software; iChat has all the functionality needed. Then launch iChat and follow the prompts to enter your AIM account information.
2. "Unattended" screen sharing:
(a) iChax: this is a third-party application or plug-in that enhances iChat's functionality. I am not personally familiar with it but as I understand it, it has the ability to auto-answer inbound iChat requests and do screen sharing when you're not there. Also, as I understand it, you need to have your computer on, you need to be logged in and you need to have iChat running.
(b) System Preferences Sharing screen sharing: you do what you have already said you have done, and from the friend's Finder, on the menubar under "Go," the friend chooses "Connect to Server" and at the prompt, enters: vnc://yourComputer'sIPaddress
Your computer's IP address will be the address that your computer echos back when you visit http://checkip.dyndns.com.
This still won't work until you have set up port forwarding in your home router, forwarding port 5900 to your home computer. Depending on your router, you may need to have set up your home LAN to assign static IP addresses, at least to the computers to which you are forwarding ports. Look at your router's user guide to find out what you have to do in order to configure your router to forward port 5900 to your computer. You could also refer to http://www.portforward.com/ but I don't think that all the info there is 100% infallible. Your best choice would be the router's user guide.
Your computer needs to be on, but you don't need to be logged in.

I am having trouble trying to get my address book from my mac (just downloaded Lion for this purpose) to my 3G ipad. Set up an icloud account but still confused! Please help !

I updated my mac with os x Lion so that I could accomplish moving my address book from the mac to my new IPad 3G. I also set up an icloud account for this purpose, but I *still* cannot figure out how to move my address book from one computer to the other. When I'm on my mac and try to use bluetooth to export the address book, I'm able to find my ipad but I soon get a message that it does not support the necessary services. I have no idea what's going on and would appreciate any advice. tks in advance, Sarah

The address book syncs via iCloud, not Bluetooth or iTunes.
You upgraded to Lion so you could use iCoud.
On the computer. go to Apple menu > System prefs > iCloud.
Sign into your iCloud account.
Tick everything.
This enalbes the se items syncing to iCloud.
On the iPad, Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Create a new iCloud account.
Sign in with the same AppleID as your computer.
Settings > iCloud and turn everything on.
BAM!
That is all you need to do.
Your contacts (and all other checked items checked) will sync between computer and iPad.
No need to use iTunes

Is there a feed cleaner- upper program :-) that I can use for my messed up feed in feedburner? what are the minimum steps to put under a new episode "item"    Do I need an enclosure withe mp3 < new episode> for each new episode? I want to just use the album art on my original itune podcast and just add new episodes to my podcast. I am so confused and frustrated.   :-(

I hate to tell you this but I am not aware of a way that you can. Either you will have to get it out of the radius server or copy the config from the old wlc to the new wlc. Like a PSK its encrypted and you cant extract it.

OK I'm still confused on how to create a 2006 slideshow

I'm trying to create a slideshow of about 400 photos from my iPhoto library. I would like to just click on one chapter button to start the slideshow, but would like to break up the slideshow into several sections with different music playing to reflect the mood of the pictures. Is there a simple way to do this, or should I be using iMovie to make a movie and then burn it to DVD? I was hoping this would be easy in iDVD as it seems that iMovie takes considerable time to accomplish this task. Especially when you add transitions and the like. I've found that rendering these types of actions can take a very long time in iMovie.

I've only used iDVD a couple of times to create a slide show and was frustrated by the limited options of adding movies and transitions for various sections. So I reverted to creating an iMovie with the stills. A couple of notes that made it easier for me...
1. You can make the default time to display a pic constant so that when you import them they all have the same duration.
2. If you highlight a selection of photos on the timeline, you can select a transition that will apply to all.
3. The big advantage is that you can add music and edit the length to fit your slides.
I think the biggest advantage of the slide show function in iDVD is that it is fast and easy, but at the cost of flexibility in transitions, etc. And there may be a limitation on number of slides you can put into the iDVD project. But making the slide show in iMovie is not that hard.
Maybe other users have more insight into the capabilities of iDVD and slide shows.

Still confused if XP OEM legal

I'm so confused about how I can make sure the windows xp I install on bootcamp is legitimate.
I read something about it's OK to use an oem version if it comes with some sort of hardware and is a full version, not tied to a specific manufacturer.
Is that true or not?!
And why does EVERYTHING with windows have to be so convoluted?! I wish I didn't need a couple of windows programs so I could junk it entirely!

Let's say you bought a computer, generally they come with Windows pre-installed by the manufacturer and they (usually) use the OEM version.
That OEM version is "tied" to that particular hardware, and could not be used (legally) with Boot Camp.
However if you purchased an OEM version from someone like Amazon, then you as a system builder are legally allowed to install that version of Windows on hardware - it is not always necessary to purchase it bundled with hardware.

Of course you will get no support from Microsoft or the reseller, if you require support you should purchase the full retail version - that accounts for the differences in cost.
