Delete any photos stored in the 'Camera Roll' section of your iPhone and iPhoto won't launch. Otherwise you'll have to disable iPhoto launching for all cameras. I agree this should be adjustable but for now OS X sees an iPhone as just another camera. As long as it has pictures that haven't been uploaded, iPhoto will helpfully offer to get them for you.
Of course, this doesn't apply to sync'd photos -- just the ones you take with the iPhone camera. So the way to deal with it (on a mac at least) is to let iPhoto upload your pictures when you dock. Edit them in iPhoto and move the ones you want to keep on the iPhone into an "iPhone pics" folder and sync that. Seems a bit circular but then we're only at iPhone 1.0 so far!

Stop launching iPhoto with iPhone
anyone know how to stop iPhoto from launching automatically, every time i hook my iPhone up to my computer?
thanks so much.I have had this same problem and changed the settings in iPhoto so that it did not automatically open when I attach the iPhone. But wouldn't it be nice if iTunes and iPhoto could coordinate and sync simultaneously or in tandem? iPhoto always opens first - and I can see the point in this, since one might want to first download photos and then place them in albums to then resync back onto iPhone. But it would be better if I had a choice. How nice it would be if a dialog box popped up asking which program I would like to open first?
I am so frustrated because iTunes inevitably crashes after I plug and unplug the iPhone a few times to get it to sync with iTunes rather than iPhoto. -
Why my iPhoto STOP launching when I plug in my Canon IXUS 800IS
Hello all.
This *used to be fine* until recently when I finished shooting some photos and when I plug in my Canon IXUS 800 (same camera), *iPhoto did not launch automatically*. And when I launch it, inside, *the camera does not appear*, instead, there is an 'Apple iPod' and says nothing to import.
Turning on/off the camera, launching/quitting iPhoto in which ever order, doesn't seem to help, *seem only a restart can help*.
*What's going on here?*
ThanksHi Terence, thanks for replying, your pointers are worth "further investigating and experimenting"
1. Have not tired whether plugging in the camera would launch iTunes; 'Cause I have my iPods already in their docks, so they will launch iTunes (anyway)
2. Card Reader - Now this is interesting. Prior to my first "failed" attempt at this whole thing, my dad actually asked me to import photos from his digital camera, but we used a card reader instead, and when plug in, it launched iPhoto, and the card reader was read as the model of my dad's camera
Now could this have somehow "confused" my iPhoto?
3. There is still an 'Apple iPod' mounted in iPhoto whenever I launch it, regardless whether I plug in any camera. Could this be the iPod touch that I have?
Thanks and cheers -
Every time I launch iPhoto 11 i have to enable Photo Stream. It won't stay on.
After activating iCloud, and setting all my preferences appropriately, iPhoto was actively downloading my Photo Stream into my library.
But the last few days it stopped. I finally discovered that in my iPhoto preferences the option to enable Photo Stream was no longer clicked. If I click it, it starts pulling from the cloud. If I quit iPhoto, and relaunch it is still enabled and will begin again to pull from the cloud.
But if I restart my computer or log off, when I launch iPhoto I need to enable Photo Stream again.
I am on Lion. All software is up-to-date. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a solution?
Thanks.See if the following will let you to keep Photostream on: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

"Open Network Preferences" launches iPhoto
When I click on "Open Network Preferences", snow leopard immediately launches iPhoto 11 version 9.2 and starts importing system icons. How can I stop this from happening? There is not much to check / uncheck so I would assume it is burried deep in the OS X.
I click on the upper right icon on the title bar, select "Open XXXXXX preferences"
Which icon is this exactly? In mine, I'm only seeing "Open Network Preferences" from the Airport icon on the Menubar. What happens if you open Sys Prefs from the Dock? Does that launch iPhoto too? If not, then what happens if you select Network with Sys Prefs open and all the Preference Panes are showing? What happens if you right click on the Sys Prefs icon in the Dock and select Network from there?
What happens if you open SystemPreferences from Terminal with this command?
open /Applications/System\ Preferences.app/
The main repository of system icons is located in
System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle->Contents/Resources.
Right click on CoreTypes.bundle> Show Package Contents
If you go there, are you seeing any of those icons that appear with iPhoto? Don't mess with any of those. Just look.
Have you verified Disk in Disk Utility?
If you've done a reinstall, then IPhoto may be the next thing to look at.
One other thing to try; might or might not help: you could rebuild the Launch Services Database. In Terminal Copy/Paste
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
Log out and back in or restart required.

Problem: Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app stops launching upon boot-up and the CC icon does not appear up on my iMac's desktop menu bar at top. And whenever I loose that, I can't open my CC apps. Our friends in India seem eager to help and always manage to stumble onto a solution, (each time through a different process, it seems), but that lasts for only 2 or 3 boot-ups before it quits working again.
When I try to manually launch the "Adobe Creative Cloud" desktop app (by double-clicking it in my Applications folder), its red icon appears on my Dock and bounces up and down but does nothing more. My Force-Quit utility shows it as "not responding" so I have to force quit it.
My case has been elevated to Tier-2 Support but they call outside of the agreed-upon hours so I'm not here. My only recourse is to call them back, but that only gets me yet another Tier-1 technician and their limited troubleshooting playbook. I did get to talk with a Tier-2 technician once, but the results were still the same: Manages to restore it, but after just a few boot-ups the Adobe Creative Cloud app stops launching again and I can't use my Creative Cloud tools: Ps, Ai, Id, Pr. (And leaving my workstation on all the time isn't an option.) What DOES keep working without fail is Adobe's monthly hit on my credit card.
Has anyone else experienced this and managed to permanently solve it? How? I'm running a slightly older OS-X 10.7.5 and wondering if that could be a factor. Thanks for reading this and for any help you can offer.Hi TWalkerArt,
Could you please create a test account and see whether the apps are working there: http://support.apple.com/kb/ph4600

how do i launch iphoto on an external drive with my iphoto library already on it, how do i launch iphoto on an external drive with my iphoto library already on it
If you start iPhoto while holding down the option key you will get the library choice window.
From here you can select the library on the external drive and have iPhoto open it. -
I have multiple iPhoto libraries on my Macbook Air 10.7.5 and when I am selecting which library to view (hold down 'option' key and launch iPhoto from the dock) it automatically closes another open application window eg. Chome, Word. 1 app closes every time I launch iPhoto this way.
If you're pushing Option at the exact moment you're clicking the Dock icon, it's supposed to do that. Wait until just after clicking it.

Every time I launch iPhoto and go to use photo stream, I have to enable photostream again. In the past it was always just on but not any more. Any Ideas as to why and or a fix would be appriciated , thanks.
I did a search and found nothing but as soon as I posted this I saw that there were many in the same boat. No need to reply to this. Im hoping, like many others, that apple gets the fix out soon. Thanks.

IPhoto and Aperture crash on launch, iPhoto and Aperture crash on launch
Hi everyone.
Recently when I launch iPhoto it crashes immeadiately and I have to 'Force quit' the application. I haven't been able to use it for weeks! I decided to purchase Aperture and when I open it I get the same problem! Both iPhoto and Aperture don't seem to want to work...
I recently bought a new Nikon camera and imported some pictures and videos from that, so was wondering if that was causing the problem. I haven't been able to sync any more photos to my library since the problem happened- I have to manually drag and drop from Finder.
Can anyone help? Here is a crash report from iPhoto.
Thanks
Jon

You'll need to reinstall
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.
If that fails you'll be reinstalling the OS.

How do I get it to not launch iPhoto when camera connects?
Is there a way to set my Mac up to not launch iPhoto when I plug a camera or card reader into it? I need to just copy the pics off to work with them in Photoshop, it it want to launch iPhoto every time. My iPhoto is really full and that takes a good 2 minutes to do, completely killing my Mac in the process. Any help would be great.
iPhoto 5.0, Mac OS 10.4.2
Thanks -GregoryThank Peter.
I have never even opened that program before. Why isn't this option in iPhoto? What a crazy place to put that.
Again, THANK YOU!!!
My life is going to be sooo much easier.

If i pressCommand Option when you launch iPhoto will i lose all my photos?
My photos are not backed up I have a mega amount and cannot lose them if I press command option when I launch Iphoto will i lose all my photos?
No
But if you do not have a backup yor are 100% guaranteed to lose all of your files sooner or later. Things do happen and this may be the time. Your top priority should be to purchase an external hard drive at least 2 1/2 time as large as your main hard drive and start backing up with Time Machine or other back up ASAP
Rebuilding will not lose photos. It might reveal that you have already lost photos
The back up is the only real answer

I launch iPhoto and it "Appears Corrupt"
For a while now every time I launch iPhoto I get a message that it appears corrupt and it checks the database before I use it.
All functions work great once it does its checking, but the next time I launch iPhoto I have to go through the same thing. What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
