Stop writing log in JBOSS Server

Hi All,
I am using JBoss4.0.1 application server. I start my server everday once in the morning. From that time that will starts writing the log file. If no of clients are more who are accessing my application then by next 3 or 4 hours its going write the log file of size about 2 GB. Does anybody knows configuring jboss to stop writing log file.

I guess it is perfectly a wrong notion as i personally or to many corporate applications are using Log4j & JBOSS combination and logging some critical details.
It would be great if you can go through the below links and try to configure it urself.
http://docs.jboss.org/jbossas/logging/JBossLog4j.pdf
http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=Logging
http://www.jboss.org/developers/guides/logging
http://www.theserverside.com/discussions/thread.tss?thread_id=29870
I understand as it lacks in providing a proper administrative tool by which we can do all this however,I think it is gud enough Application Server and could match any big player in the business :)

  • Access Jboss server.log through application

    Dear all,
    i am using jboss application server.
    In my implementation place, no permission to see the application server pc,
    So, if i want to see the jboss server.log file,
    is there any option to see server.log file through web application.
    Plz suggest.
    Thanx,.
    Rams.

    Use java.io.File in combination with ServletContext#getRealPath().
    There is no guarantee that it will work, you're dependent on the disk file system level read permissions for Java. If it is disallowed, you will get an 'Access denied' IOException during read.

  • How to write to windows event logs from determinations-server under IIS

    This is just an FYI technical bit of information I wish someone had shared with me before I started trying to write OPA errors to the windows event log... Most problems writing to the windows event log from log4net occur because of permissions. Some problems are because determinations-server does not have permissions to create some registry entries. Some problems cannot be resolved unless specific registry entry permissions are actually changed. We had very little consistency with the needed changes across our servers, but some combination of the following would always get the logging to the windows event log working.
    To see log4net errors as log4net attempts to utilize the windows event log, temporarily add the following to the web.config:
    <appSettings>
    <!-- uncomment the following line to send diagnostic messages about the log configuration file to the debug trace.
    Debug trace can be seen when attached to IIS in a debugger, or it can be redirected to a file, see
    http://logging.apache.org/log4net/release/faq.html in the section "How do I enable log4net internal debugging?" -->
    <add key="log4net.Internal.Debug" value="true"/>
    </appSettings>
    <system.diagnostics>
    <trace autoflush="true">
    <listeners>
    <add
    name="textWriterTraceListener"
    type="System.Diagnostics.TextWriterTraceListener"
    initializeData="logs/InfoDSLog.txt" />
    </listeners>
    </trace>
    </system.diagnostics>
    To add an appender for the windows event viewer, try the following in the log4net.xml:
    <appender name="EventLogAppender" type="log4net.Appender.EventLogAppender" >
    <param name="ApplicationName" value="OPA" />
    <param name="LogName" value="OPA" />
    <param name="Threshold" value="all" />
    <layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout">
    <conversionPattern value="%date [%thread] %-5level %logger [%property{NDC}] - %message%newline" />
    </layout>
    <filter type="log4net.Filter.LevelRangeFilter">
    <levelMin value="WARN" />
    <levelMax value="FATAL" />
    </filter>
    </appender>
    <root>
    <level value="warn"/>
    <appender-ref ref="EventLogAppender"/>
    </root>
    To put the OPA logs under the Application Event Log group, try this:
    Create an event source under the Application event log in Registry Editor. To do this, follow these steps:
    1.     Click Start, and then click Run.
    2.     In the Open text box, type regedit.
    3.     Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application
    4.     Right-click the Application subkey, point to New, and then click Key.
    5.     Type OPA for the key name.
    6.     Close Registry Editor.
    To put the OPA logs under a custom OPA Event Log group (as in the demo appender above), try this:
    Create an event log in Registry Editor. To do this, follow these steps:
    1.     Click Start, and then click Run.
    2.     In the Open text box, type regedit.
    3.     Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog
    4.     Right-click the eventlog subkey, point to New, and then click Key.
    5.     Type OPA for the key name.
    6.     Right-click the new OPA key and add a new DWORD called "MaxSize" and set it to "1400000" which is about 20 Meg in order to keep the log file from getting too large.
    7.     The next steps either help or sometimes cause an error, but you can try these next few steps... If you get an error about a source already existing, then you can delete the key.
    8.     Right-click the OPA subkey, point to New, and then click Key.
    9.     Type OPA for the key name.
    10.     Close Registry Editor.
    You might need to change permissions so OPA can write to the event log in Registry Editor.  If you get permission errors, try following these steps:
    1.     Click Start, and then click Run.
    2.     In the Open text box, type regedit.
    3.     Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog
    4.     Right-click the EventLog key, select Permissions.
    5.     In the dialog that pops up, click Add...
    6.     Click Advanced...
    7.     Click Locations... and select the current machine by name.
    8.     Click Find Now
    9.     Select both the Network user and IIS_IUSERS user and click OK and OK again. (We never did figure out which of those two users was the one that fixed our permission problem.)
    10.     Change the Network user to have Full Control
    11.     Click Apply and OK
    To verify OPA Logging to the windows event logs from Determinations-Server:
    Go to the IIS determinations-server application within Server Manager.
    Under Manage Application -> Browse Application click the http link to pull up the local "Available Services" web page that show the wsdl endpoints.
    Select the /determinations-server/server/soap.asmx?wsdl link
    Go to the URL and remove the "?wsdl" from the end of the url and refresh. This will throw the following error into the logs:
    ERROR Oracle.Determinations.Server.DSServlet [(null)] - Invalid get request: /determinations-server/server/soap.asmx
    That error should show up in the windows event log, OR you can get a message explaining why security stopped you in "logs/InfoDSLog.txt" if you used the web.config settings from above.

  • Error while starting JBOSS Server

    We had deployed OIM 10g on a JBOSS server for testing purposes. While starting the server i am able to see some errors in the error log. The design console is working fine and there is no issues. • Having problem with svchost.exe/ntdll.dll errors causing GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash preventing users from logging into the server.

    Recently (within the past 2 weeks) I have noticed a few of our servers will have problems with the svchost.exe application causing the GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash. The only fix at that point is to reboot the server since the GPSVC service is tied
    to svchost.exe and therefore is protected from being manually restarted.
    I noticed the following errors when this occurs:

    I've searched and cannot seem to find any information as to what may be causing this, or even really where to start. Would someone be able to help me identify what might be causing this event, specific with the Exception code: 0xc0000024, which causes
    the Group Policy Client service to stop?

    You still out there looking at things? If so I have an update. The issue hasn't stopped, even though it did seemingly die down for awhile, however, it is now back with a vengeance.
    I am able to force it to happen by killing the svchost process that is hosting GPSVC. If I run gpupdate /force, then logout/login it does get GPSVC running again. Furthermore, if I simply start svchost again via the Task Manager GPSVC starts running again.
    When I access the server remotely with KVM it acts just like it does as if I'm logging into it via Citrix/RDP which for Admin IDs gives an error saying "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the Group Policy Client service...",
    however, normal user accounts just get a message when logging into the server "The Group Policy Client Service Failed the Logon. Access is denied."
    I haven't opened a case with Microsoft yet, but we about ready to because of the increase in these errors.
    If you have any further suggestions that would be great, otherwise I'll provide an update once I get word back from Microsoft.
    **EDIT -- apparently I mistook the the server's SCM's actions as my own. I was able to successfully crash the GPSVC service by killing the hosting svchost process, however, after I crashed it and let it sit crashed for awhile when I attempted
    to restart either by starting a svchost task, or running gpupdate /force it failed. Either that, or there is a timing issue where if we don't restart the svchost process, or run gpupdate /force quickly enough it won't be able to recover without a reboot.

  • OAS 10.1.2.0.2 Stop OC4J Logging

    Hi,
    We have Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2
    We can see that OC4J logs are being created at following location:
    $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs/OC4J~OC4J_NAME~default_island~1
    This log file grows in size very soon. We are aware of the Log Rotation feature, but this is a Test Environment and we really do not require these log files.
    Is there a way to stop these log files from being created ?
    Please help..
    Thanks in advance :)

    Can anybody help me for this ?
    Thanks a lot...

  • J2ee server status stopped in one of application server

    Short Text
    J2ee server status stopped in one of application server
    Long Text
    Dear supprot,
    We have 3 application servers to our production server.
    App1 and App3 are working fine. when i am trying to start App2
    J2ee server0 for the same server is getting stopped.
    at that time "r3trans -d" is also taking lots of time on all the servers but giving RC 000.
    when i will stop the app2 application server again "r3trans -d" status is
    coming fast with 0000 for remaining servers and at that time everything is working fine.
    please kindly help me to resolve this problem.
    Regards
    Nirgun

    Hello,
    Refer to the log files in the instance work directory for a clue why the server node does not start. Usually the files you are interested in are:
    dev_serverX
    std_serverX.out
    dev_disp
    If you share these files I could help you identify and fix the problem.

  • EJBs on JBoss Server

    I have deployed my application on a JBoss server (4.0.5). I have two EJBs that hangs onto a static class called ServiceLocator for the class to use through the life of the object.. This class is a Singleton. Within the ejbCreate method, I check for the ServiceLocator class. If it is null, I call ServiceLocator.getInstance().
    My problem is understanding this behavior. When I login to my application we go through EJB1. One of the things we do is call other ejbs for addtional information from EJB1. This is where the Service Locator becomes involved. Inside individual methods I use the ServiceLocator(sl) and fetch the appropriate EJB for use. The problem is the variable sl, is null when I attempt to use it within a business method.. When I change the code to call the class like ServiceLocator.getInstance() everything is fine. When I use a static initializer, the error goes away, too. From the log files, I see the ejbcontainer is calling ejbRemove() just prior to calling the ServiceLocator.
    Can someone share their knowledge in this area? I was under the understanding that ejbCreate was the approach one should take for creating a instance/class-level variable. Having a class level variable seem to make sense and reduced the number of keystrokes.
    Thank you for taking the time to read and explain.
    Russ

    I know perfectly well that Tomcat is servlet container. But this does not change the fact that JPA persistence works on tomcat. Or even i believe on a stand allown application. My question is if there is diference in the behaviour in the JPA standalone beans and the ones loaded in Application server. I believe that there is difference in the way that the application server manages tham and probably there is some kind of cache or I don't know.
    The first difference I saw is that jboss loads and precompiles all queries on startup and also loads several instances of the JPA beans.
    Can you confirm this or I am wrong?

  • MacBook Air wont log onto icloud server

    I am having difficulty logging onto icloud server on my new macbook air. My phone has no issues. I can not currently access itune, apps store or email accounts.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
    Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
    There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
    You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
    In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
    You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
    Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
    ☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
    ☞ Paste into the window of another application.
    ☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
    ☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
    The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
    You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
    and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
    If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
            Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
            Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
            The test results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
    The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
    Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
    At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
    If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I may not agree with them.

  • Is there a process that writes this type of error in a log on the server?

    Hi,
    When I go open a cursor and at that time my connection is closed for some reason, I receive an error.
    1) I wanted to know if the cause of the error is stored in a log on the server. Can you hear what happened?
    2) What are the processes that logs and write in that directory?

    If there is no Oracle error, I would tend to suspect that there are problems at the network level, not at the Oracle level.
    It wouldn't hurt to see if there are any errors in the alert log indicating that user sessions are getting killed because of internal Oracle errors, though that is unlikely. You could verify that the user isn't assigned a profile that limits idle_time or some other resource that may not play nicely with a connection pool. In either of those cases, though, you would expect the error stack to have an Oracle related error rather than just a network related error.

  • Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.

    Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.
    I'm NOT in any way a Terminal Services expert and I need help trying to get an application program working in a multi-user environment.
    The issue is that the printer changes for every user that is logged in. The application needs to print NOT to the default printer, but to a "special" printer which is selected in the application... let's call it a label printer to simplify the explanation.
    You have your default regular printer, easy for the application to find that one, and then you have a special printer that labels get printed onto. The application needs to know what printer is the label printer. So we allow the user to select that in the
    application and the selection is stored in a config file in
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    I don't have access to the application so I can't change how this works.
    In the "regular" world, selecting the label printer driver to use should be per machine, NOT per user. When a new user logs into a machine, the physical printer doesn't go "poof" and a new printer suddenly appear. Same printer for all
    users.
    Yet in terminal services, the physical machine is "merged" with the virtual machine on the server. And there can be many users logged in at the same time. So each users real machine (and real printer) is injected into the "fake" terminal
    services machine. The name of the printers is made unique for each user. So the printers DO go "poof" and change names depending on the user logged into terminal services.
    So user "A" logs in and sets up the application to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" (or whatever the name of the printer happens to be), that setting is stored in the ProgramData subfolder, and all is well. Later, user "B" logs
    in, and when they print, the application tries to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" which doesn't exist for user B or is only accessible by user A. If user B re-configures, that breaks it for user A.
    SOLUTION 1: The way that /should/ work (in my mind) is that you define one "generic" printer in Terminal Services... call it "Virtual Label printer" and when the user wants to print to it, the print job gets re-directed back to whatever
    physical printer is actually connected to their local workstation. There is a map of virtual printer to actual printer depending on the current user. The application is told once to print to "Virtual Label Printer" for all users.
    SOLUTION 2: Or... there should be some way to make the ProgramData sub folders separate per user. E.g. when user "A" tries to access:
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    they actually get
    C:\UserData\UserA\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    and user "B" gets
    C:\UserData\UserB\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    So the question I have is: Does either of those solutions exist hidden somewhere in the setup of terminal server? Or is there another way around this issue that I don't know?

    I don't really have a "for sure" answer to this, but because people here can't seem to deal with a question that hasn't been answered I'll provide the best answer I did receive from ServerFault.com user Nathan:
    I can feel your pain with using old software on terminal servers ...the solution I've come up with definitely won't scale as it requires some manual configuration, but I've gotten this method to work with our label printers (which require to be
    printed to an LPT port...yep, that old).
    Share your USB-connected printers to the network on each machine. Then, have the user log in on aunique session for each of them
    (a TS account cannot be shared among computers for this to work) and install a network printer pointing to the USB one they shared. Try to use a DNS name to account for possible DHCP movements.
    After, it should work. Each user can do this since display names can be identical as long as the ports are different (which they are).
    This was clarified by the following series of comments:
    I think you are on to something here, and I originally advised the admin to do this. The problem he ran into is that it setup the printer names in the TS as "printer on usersworkstation"
    and he could not rename it except to change the "printer" to whatever. E.g. the "on userworkstation" remained. I believe there is another way of installing the printer which avoids this, but I can't find it. Ages ago, one used to do NET

    @JamesNewton That's actually the exact method we used. The way around the "network printer" part is to install it as local printer and map it to a TCP/IP port that way. –  Nathan

    You mean in the case where the printers are TCP/IP connected and not local USB / LPT to the users workstation? That makes sense. Wonder if this will work for USB connected printers... –  James

    @JamesNewton You'd share the local printer on the client's PC then on the server connect via TCP/IP to it. You'd need static addresses or use DNS names if DHCP, though. –  Nathan

    Ah. Yes. I see. Looks like the LPT thing should work even with a USB connected printer:superuser.com/questions/182655/… –  James

  • User profile images not persisting after log off on Server 2012 R2 RDS Session Hosts

    Hi,
    We have a 2012 R2 remote desktop deployment, with two session collections, a gateway server, and connection broker.
    We have set these session collections to use centralised user profile disks.
    What I am having an issue with, is that when a user sets their profile image through the server they have logged on to (I have the desktop experience pack installed so they are able to do this), they can see the user tile has been set with that image in
    settings and also on the start menu, but as soon as they log off the server and back on, their profile image has been reset to the default blank image.
    I have checked all of my group policy options, and cannot find any settings that could be impacting this.
    Does anyone have any ideas why these images are not persisting for users or admins?
    Thanks, Eds

    Please check that the user is not getting a temporary profile each time he logs in. Also, make sure that the RDP client is properly configured to display the Wallpaper: http://www.webapper.com/blog/index.php/2007/10/18/enabling-desktop-wallpaper-on-remote-desktop-terminal-services/
