Stopping streaming video with cue points

I've been searching for a solution to this problem for weeks now. All i want to do is make a video streaming in a video object to stop on a cue point, and play from abother when a button is pushed. It's relatively simple, right? Wrong. Over a hundred $s in how-to books and several hours wasted searching online later and I have nothing. I have checked and re-checked the cuepoints are correct (i made them in flash video encoder CS3) and tried just about everything as far as AS is concerned. Here is my latest attempt: (obmintro is the player instance name, i have the rtmp info in source under player parameters and it plays fine)
import fl.video.MetadataEvent;
obmintro.addEventListener(MetadataEvent.CUE_POINT, cp_listener);
function cp_listener(eventObject:Object):void
if (eventObject.object.name == "site_end");
  obmintro.pause();
//i have also used stop, stop("obmintro"); and i don't even know what else.
please tell me what i'm doing wrong and how it's really supposed to be done. i'm feeling very hopeless and blonde right now. help a girl out?

you're welcome.
for anyone else with a similar issue, using the info property of the MetadataEvent is the correct way to proceed.  (that event has no object property.)

  • Streaming Video with Cue Points

I have made a video with cue points, when it is in a local
file, lingo can check its cuepointtime and cuepointnames as well,
but when it is put in streaming server, its cuepointtime and
cuepointnames are both empty when get by lingo.
Could anyone please tell how to get the cue points of a video
when getting it from streaming server?

  • Recording streaming videos with sound

Can I use quicktime for recording streaming videos with sound? If not which Apple software can do it?
    Bye Christof

You can use Quicktime to record streaming video +with it's audio+ by using a very simple trick. Using the same cable you connect your iPod/iPhone to your car's stereo system, connect your Mac's Audio OUT to its MIKE IN jack. I used FILE / OPEN URL to select the video stream source, then selected FILE / NEW SCREEN RECORDING. In the resulting 'Screen Recording' dialog box, I set the AUDIO slider all the way to the right, and under the arrow to the right, selected "Built-in Input Line In" for the microphone. I then used the appropriate controls to play the stream and record it. The resultant file was very acceptable. Good luck.

Looking for a video camera capable of streaming video with
    good quality and decent price.
    What camara should I buy?

I'm not sure if the Vixia series can be used to provide realtime video to a PC.  They're not really designed for this purpose - they are primarily recording devices.

  • Importing wav with cue points?

I’m trying to import a WAV file with cue points and I
get a “Director having trouble importing…” error
message. I created the cue points in Sound Forge 9 using markers
and save the file with meta data. From what I recall I should be
able to simply import this file but Director (MX04) seems to be
choking on the meta data (imports fine without cue points).
I’ve been working with Director for over 10 years but lately
it’s been mostly application development and not narrated
multimedia, I feel like I’ve forgotten something very
    basic.

Fixed it, sort of… Apparently by default Sound Forge
doesn’t name the cue points at all and Director doesn’t
like this (at least up to MX04, don’t know about 11). To
create wav files with metadata that Director will read:
In Sound Forge navigate to Options > Preferences >
    Labels.
Check the box “label markers”, I also used the
    prefix and leading zero options
Any new markers will now have labels
For my present project I already had 83 cue points accurately
positioned that I didn’t want to remake. In this case I
renamed each cue point by hand, one at a time. Insanely tedious but
better than marking the file again.

  • Rendering .flv with cue points but maintaining video size

When I render an .flv by exporting in After Effects I cannot get cue points however when I import the .flv to a Flash doc, the controller is the same width as the video.
However, in order to get cue points, you have to add the video to the Render Queue in AE in order to see the cue points in Flash. But the video controller ends up wider than the video itself when imported to Flash.
My video is 495 wide by 360 high. When I render in AE in the Render Queue, and then import to a Flash doc, the video controller is about 30 pixels wider on both the left and right of the video. This looks goofy. Is their a way to resolve this?
    Thank you.

Thank you for responding. I tried to but what happens is that that there is about 15 pixels of black space on the left and 15 pixels on the right side of he video. This does not happen when I export to Flash, only when I add to the Render Queue.
So If I adjust the video size in Flash, the video size changes however the black space still remains. Somehow AE is creating extra space black space on both sides of the .flv. Again, this does not happen when export to .flv.

  • All streaming video with my Firefox browser is choppy and constantly stutters and stops and starts. This does not happen with Internet Explorer. Help!!

Any streaming video that I view on Firefox stutters, is choppy and very irritating to try and watch. I opened up Internet Explorer and found that I don't have those issues. This occurs on YouTube, Facebook, and all other videos that I attempt to watch.

I've tried both things, but video still stutters.. Have also tried removing profile, and complete reinstall of firefox.
I'm on 24 Mbit cable and the only user atm. IE and Chrome seems to work without stuttering.
I've having this stuttering every ~5th second, like a small "1/4 sec buffering".

  • Flash Streaming Video with Close Captioning

    Hello,
I am trying to create streaming video using flash. I've
already created the video and encoded as a FLV file.
    Two questions:
    1. I am currently hosting my streaming video on
Playstream.com. How do I incorporate this video such that when a
user views the content he/she will see a buffer bar loading as the
video plays? A good example is on YouTube.com.
    2. I've aready created my close caption file and have it in
xml format. How do I sync my close captioned file with the flash
    video?
    Thanks in advance.
    mdawg

I don't know too much about how to capture both video and
aplication monitoring moves at the same time.
I do however want to warn you about a possible pitfall of
making the presenter's video by recording with a digital cammera in
front of a PC or TV monitor screen.
The video from a monitor screen, taken with a digital camera
comes out full of glitches and flashes. This is present the video
in the monitor, and those used by the recording digital camera to
capture the scenes. It's a synchronization problem and makes the
    video very unconfortable to watch.
A wrokaround for this requires expensive and hard to come by
equipment. To work around this, I would suggest to record a video
of the presenter first. Have him or her read the script while
standing or sitting in front of a fixed colored background. This
helps to avoid distractions to the viewer.
Review, edit and decide how you like the presentation video
first. Create the video file, and then you can play it in a 2x2
    window on your PC monitor.
Here is where my expertise stops.
I don't know how or if you can then record the screen while
manipulating and recording your application's CAPTIVATE file. Maybe
it's possible to capture both windows at the same time side by
side, but my point is that you need to avoid recording with a
digital camera from a video monitor, it just doesn't look good.
    Hope this helps a little.

  • Stopping a video at a point

Hi, I´m trying to stop a Video at a specific Point to start an new Frame at that Point. The Video should be stopped until I go back to the frame.
Is there any posiibility to realize. I would be glad about any help or Information.
Is there any Chance to get informations how Long the Video is running. For example, i like to connect to another site at 6 seconds of running Video.

    Hi PeLuTPro,
Here are some pointers to get started:
    a) Stop a Video at a specific point
Add the Video control and set the Media
Set Start of the video to play -- we will control the video using this variable
    Add a Timer control
       Set Duration to 6000 ms
       Set Start to play
       Behaviour > OnTimerEnd > UpdateContext({play:false})
    Add a button
       Set OnSelect > UpdateContext({play:true)
Click on the button to start the video (and the timer), once the timer hits 6 seconds the video will pause.
    b) Get information on how long the Video has been running
You can get elapsed time from Video1!Time and total video time from Video1!Duration
assuming Video1 is your video control's name
    Enjoy building your app!

  • Need Help with Cue Points/Custome Code

So I've figured out that videos with a playback component need cue points in order to set up all the interactivity I want to use. The only way to make animated graphics, interactive graphs and text is to apparently create custom code, which I no zip about.
Should I hire someone to do that for me? I was thinking elance, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to make an interactive video other ways (or cheaper)ways.
    p.s
how much do you think I should charge for that:)?

My advice... start with a very simple "proof of concept" project before you attempt the entire package.
It will be much easier to scale up if you first have a very good understanding of what's going on.
So one simple video with just one cuepoint and only one button and additional display. You'll also have to work out the interaction of pausing the video when a cuepoint is reached or button pushed to display the graph, giving the viewer time to read the graph... then when the viewer closes the graph, the video should "resume".
Start very simple and build on that only after you understand the fundamentals.
Second, you mention "video reports"... plural. So that most likely means that you will need a video player with a "playlist".
This may mean that you'll need to learn to use a little .xml to bring in the playlist data. You may also find xml an excellant way to bring other data into you project.
At the link listed above there is an excellant tutorial on "Integrating Flash and XML"
    "Flash and XML"
    "XML Video Playlist"
    "ActionScript 3 XML Basics"
    "ActionScript 3 Advanced XML"
Personally I would not even begin a project like this without considering how I could use xml to feed data into the project.
Here's an example of a video player I created that has a playlist, thumbnails, categories, transcipts, "Now Playing" etc. All that data comes into the main .swf via various xml files. Super good way in input data into Flash.
    http://www.drheimer.com/video/
Yours is a rather ambitious project and will take awhile to gain the skill and assemble the pieces. So when you come to a new part... first create a real simple "proof of concept" model so you can learn how that section works. Don't expect to be able to assemble the entire project all at once.
    Best wishes,

  • How do I Capture Streaming video with Quicktime Pro?

In Lamonts post about converting video for the iPod, it was pointed out that one can capture streaming video (Steve Jobs Keynote speech for instance), with Quicktime Pro. I have QT7.04 Pro, but don't know how to do this simple thing. Can someone please tell me?
    Smartmart

it's possible. i did it myself, after a few tryouts.
i still can't get the best result, but i got something.
first of all you have to save the streaming file(thru the save as qt movie, from CTRL-click). when you get a stream it gets cached on your computer. you might playback it even when offline. so if all that you need is a simple playback, that's ok. but it's a cache, sometime the system will erase it from your HD.
if you want to keep it as a qt file(or any other format) thats this is the deal. when you save the stream file, it saves a reference file(4kb) that reads the cache. you cannot recover them from the cache, not even by changing the termination, because the qt player won't recognize the .qtch files transformed into .mov.
open the file(reference you saved before), choose export from the file menu, and choose the setting that you want. i still don't get a good quality(i know it's incredible that a stream file has a better quality...) and i still have to export the video separated from the audio. but if you need only the moving image to edit a homevideo, and your only source is a stream, it's a start.
so if anyone feel like growing the knowledge tree, let's go ahead.

  • Stop streaming video?

    Hi all,
I hope I'm posting this in the correct form. I have Googled
this topic as well as searched through previous forum posts, but
have not found an answer to this question anywhere.
Here's what I'm trying to do:
I'm using CF8 for a site, and I am embedding a flv live
streaming video. The site will have 2 types of users, Paying users
and Non-Paying users. Both sets of users can view the flv streaming
video. For the non-paying users I want to be able to stop the live
video dynamically after n-number of minutes, and then give them a
prompt on screen "Please sign up now to continue watching the
stream.". Can this be accomplished with Flash? If so, do you have
any examples or can you explain how to do this in Flash?
    Thanks

both the netstream class and the flvplayback component have
pause() methods that will stop the video streaming.

  • With latest version of Flashplayer - unable to download streaming video with realplayer

The latest version of Adobe flashplayer (11.5)  was loaded today (nov 9, 2012).  As a result, using either IE9 or Firefox, I was unable to download streaming videos using Realplayer, where it was set up by "Download the Video".  I had no trouble with Flashplayer 11.4, although I had the same problem with Flashplayer 11.3.

Good comments by Hicks. While I an not as anti-iMovie '08 as many others appear to be, I really agree with both his assessment of the product and some of his distribution ideas. However, rather than the simple 2-tier product recommendation he presented, I would personally like to see a renamed version of the current iMovie '08 product be distributed as a free application to users and keep all of the DV based editors as a part of the current 3-tier iLife (which can be purchased by users who wish more editing/plug-in compatibility at a moderate price but are not willing to invest the money or time to use of FCE), FCE "prosumer", and FCE/Studio true profession editing packages purchased according to individual user needs.
As we have seen in the past, innovations introduced by FCE frequently filter their way down to lower level software as enhancements over time. In addition, we have also seen a number of the new iMovie '08 developments being adapted to other applications as the means and processes are developed to do so. Frankly, I am curious to see where all these new innovations may lead given the opportunity for further development.

  • How can I stream video with Flash?

    Hi guys!
I have a placeHolder MC in my main movie.
Within the placeHolder is an external swf containing an mpg
    video.
How can I code the preloader of the external swf to stream
    the mpg?
Thank you very much and I hope to hear from you.
    All the best,
    Mark

if you mean stream as in streaming video, you need the
    communication server.
if you mean preload the file, you can do so with various
    components in flash.
    loadMovie
    Loader
    MovieClipLoader
and more that escape my mind atm.
