Oracle Forms can do that or not ?
1) select file from client side , then store the file on database server .
2) when user double click detail record. Forms will launch suitable program to
open docs. (For Example : Launch Acrobat Reader for PDF format)
Version : Oracle Forms 10g

Converting a pdf-document in a tiff-formatted document
Hello,
I have created an interactive form in web-dynpro.
Now I want to convert the pdf document with the user filled-in data into a document with tiff-format.
But I´don´t know how.
Can you help me?
Best regards
OliverYou can potentially use the Adobe bean library with the Batik.jar file to convert the PDF to TIFF or any other image format.
The Adobe bean library is available from
<a href="http://www.adobe.com/products/acrviewer/acrvdnld.html?name=Accept">Adobe</a>
Batik is avaiable from <a href="http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/batik/">Batik</a> -
Store and Display doc/pdf files in the database using Forms
Hi all,
How can i store and display doc/pdf files in the database using Forms 10g?.
ArifHow to get up and running with WebUtil 1.06 included with Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on a win32 platform
Solution
Assuming a fresh "Complete" install of Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
here are steps to get a small test form running, using WebUtil 1.06.
Note: [OraHome] is used as an alias for your real oDS ORACLE_HOME.
Feel free to copy this note to a text editor, and do a global find/replace on
[OraHome] with your actual value (no trailing slash). Then it is easy to
copy/paste actual commands to be executed from the note copy.
1) Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jacob-project/jacob_18.zip
and extract to a temporary staging area. Do not attempt to use 1.7 or 1.9.
2) Copy or move jacob.jar and jacob.dll
[JacobStage] is the folder where you extracted Jacob, and will end in ...\jacob_18
cd [JacobStage]
copy jacob.jar [OraHome]\forms\java\.
copy jacob.dll [OraHome]\forms\webutil\.
The Jacob staging area is no longer needed, and may be deleted.
3) Sign frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar
Open a DOS command prompt.
Add [OraHome]\jdk\bin to the PATH:
set PATH=[OraHome]\jdk\bin;%PATH%
Sign the files, and check the output for success:
[OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\frmwebutil.jar
[OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\jacob.jar
4) If you already have a schema in your RDBMS which contains the WebUtil stored code,
you may skip this step. Otherwise,
Create a schema to hold the WebUtil stored code, and privileges needed to
connect and create a stored package. Schema name "WEBUTIL" is recommended
for no reason other than consistency over the user base.
Open [OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql in a text editor, and delete or comment
out the EXIT statement, to be able to see whether the objects were created witout
errors.
Start SQL*Plus as SYSTEM, and issue:
CREATE USER webutil IDENTIFIED BY [password]
DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
GRANT CONNECT, CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO webutil;
CONNECT webutil/[password]@[connectstring]
@[OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql
-- Inspect SQL*Plus output for errors, and then
CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM webutil_db FOR webutil.webutil_db;
Reconnect as SYSTEM, and issue:
grant execute on webutil_db to public;
5) Modify [OraHome]\forms\server\default.env, and append [OraHome]\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar
to the CLASSPATH entry.
6) Start the OC4J instance
7) Start Forms Builder and connect to a schema in the RDBMS used in step (4).
Open webutil.pll, do a "Compile ALL" (shift-Control-K), and generate to PLX (Control-T).
It is important to generate the PLX, to avoid the FRM-40039 discussed in
Note 303682.1
If the PLX is not generated, the Webutil.pll library would have to be attached with
full path information to all forms wishing to use WebUtil. This is NOT recommended.
8) Create a new FMB.
Open webutil.olb, and Subclass (not Copy) the Webutil object to the form.
There is no need to Subclass the WebutilConfig object.
Attach the Webutil.pll Library, and remove the path.
Add an ON-LOGON trigger with the code
NULL;
to avoid having to connect to an RDBMS (optional).
Create a new button on a new canvas, with the code
show_webutil_information (TRUE);
in a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger.
Compile the FMB to FMX, after doing a Compile-All (Shift-Control-K).
9) Under Edit->Preferences->Runtime in Forms Builder, click on "Reset to Default" if
the "Application Server URL" is empty.
Then append "?config=webutil" at the end, so you end up with a URL of the form
http://server:port/forms/frmservlet?config=webutil
10) Run your form.sarah -
Any way to convert PDF document in to Tiff format with inbuilt IBR features
Is there any way to convert PDF document in to Tiff format with inbuilt IBR features?
In our Webcenter Portal app, we create the PDF document with the content of ADF pages and check it in UCM using RIDC api.
There will some batch job which will retrieve the documents from UCM and send them to client internal Document management system. The client / batch job will only process TIFF files. So we need a way to convert the PDF into TIFF. We are okie to have both PDF and TIFF stored in UCM.
When i have done research, i could only see components like PDFexport or TIFFConverter which only converts the other formats into PDF. But i am expecting a reverse conversion. Is it possible ? Thanks949767 wrote:

You could take a shot through the link above.

Fm or method for converting doc,pdf or text files to binary format
Hello,
Are you aware of any function module or method which takes input as a file of type doc, pdf or text files and convert it to binary format? Kindly let me know.
This is what i tried and was unsuccessful.
i tried using gui_upload method and pass " asc" as file type while importing file of type .doc but it returns me string filled with strange characters.
I did try converting this string to xstring using cl_proxy_service=>cstring2xstring but i realized my 1st step of uploading file itself was wrong.
Please let me know what can be done if you are aware of how to convert file of various types to binary.
thanks
Poojahi All,
thanks alot for the information and help provided by all of you.
I did figure out a way where the word document or pdf can be pretty much loaded with gui_upload. the file type used in the method would be "BIN" the following thing has to be done. declare data type as given below and file would be the complete path along with document name which has to be uploaded
DATA: BEGIN OF res_line,
raw(255) TYPE x,
END OF res_line.
DATA: res_tab LIKE res_line OCCURS 0 WITH HEADER LINE.
data : wf_var_stringx TYPE xstring .
CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_UPLOAD'
EXPORTING
filename = file
filetype = 'BIN'
read_by_line = 'X'
has_field_separator = ' '
header_length = 0
header_line = 'X'
IMPORTING
filelength = l_filelength
TABLES
data_tab = res_tab
EXCEPTIONS
OTHERS = 1.
LOOP AT res_tab .
CONCATENATE wf_var_stringx res_tab-raw INTO wf_var_stringx IN BYTE MODE.
ENDLOOP.
this will upload the file and will file the string x with its content.
hope this helps to some of you.
Thanks

Time Out Issue When Converting from PDF to .doc or .dox format
I have a couple of PDF documents that I'm trying to convert to word doc (doc or dox) format. I subscribe to the online Adobe Export PDF. The export always times out. The PDF is 18.08 MB. Does anyone have have any suggestions?
Hi riversideredhead63,
Are you able to convert other PDFs without issue? Here are a few things to try for starters:
Clear your browser cache (steps vary by browser).
If you're using a work computer, check with your IT team to confirm if you have firewall/proxy settings that restrict the ability to upload files to the Internet.
Try another web browser. A list of supported browsers for accessing the ExportPDF service is available here: http://www.adobe.com/acom/systemreqs/
If those don't work, please get back to us. It would be helpful to know what sort of content is in the PDF file that you're trying to convert, and what application created the PDF. (If you don't know, choose File > Properties in Reader. The source application is listed in the middle of the dialog box.)
I look forward to hearing back from you.
Best,

How to store a PDF in a BLOB column, then select/search it using SQL?
We have a simple requirement.
(1.) We have an Oracle 10g DB.
(2.) We want to store PDFs/MS Word docs inside BLOB column in a table.
(3.) We need to show PDF/MS Word content to the user, without opening the PDFs/MS World like we normally do (i.e. Using PDV reader/ MS Word).
(4.) i.e. We need to use SQL statements and
(a.) Get all contents of the PDF/MS WORD doc.
(b.) Search for specific strings inside these docs in the BLOB columns.How to do this pls? Code sample would be really great.

Really? You mean as opposed to a requirement that might actually be doable?Could be that simple is used as in stupid ? Like in, "+look at this simply idiotic requirement, blah.. blah...+"? ;-)
@user12240205:
BLOBs contains binary data. Not text data. How do you propose to search binary data for strings?
PDF and Word formats include actual text strings and identifiers as part of the formatting. How do you propose that this be identified and ignored when searching for specific strings in the document's content?
PL/SQL does not have the ability to take a page from a PDF/Word document, highlight the search string, and display that to the client. A format-parser is needed to parse the PDF/Word format and generate that as content (e.g. HTML or XML) that can be rendered by a client. How do you propose PL/SQL serves up search strings that it found, when it cannot interpret the document format? (cannot even say what page, section or paragraph, that search string occurs)
Documents can be loaded via the DBMS_LOB interface. Either from the db server's file system, or by the client supplying the document as chunks for "write appending" to a BLOB. See Oracle® Database PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference guide for details.
Text search and document indexing are supported by an Oracle feature called Content Management<a> (which includes interMedia, UltraSearch, Oracle Text, etc).
Oracle also supports (on Window server platforms), the Microsoft Component Object Model (COM). COM interfaces (such as COM for Word) can be used for specialised processing (e.g. searching Word documents). Oracle's COM feature allows one to interface directly with external s/w (e.g. MS Word) via its COM interface. -

hi all,
i need a pl/sql code to store the pdf file into the oracle database using blob.
help me.
Thanks in advancerabbott wrote:
My first question is "where is the PDF file located"? If the answer is "on a file system accessible to the Oracle database" Then you can use directory objects and the DBMS_LOB package. It would look something like this:
as SYS user do:
-- assume the PDF files are in /data/documents <font face="tahoma,verdana,sans-serif" size="1" color="#000">files</font>ystem directory
create or replace directory pdfdir as '/data/documents';
grant read on directory pdfdir to <USER>;
as USER do:
create table mydocs (id integer primary key, doc blob);
declare
bf bfile;
b blob;
src_offset integer := 1;
dest_offset integer := 1;
begin
-- insert a new blob and return it to local variable
insert into mydocs values(1, empty_blob()) returning doc into b;
-- open the bfile for file "summary.pdf"
bf := bfilename('PDFDIR', 'summary.pdf');
dbms_lob.loadBlobFromFile(b, bf, dbms_lob.lobmaxsize, dest_offset, src_offset);
-- done
commit;
end;
/I have the issue which is similar to what you have faced, I'll follow what you said to take a try, Thanks a lot! -
Can i store a PDF with a Music album?

Yes, it's possible to do that with 3rd party software such as Air Doc Viewer.

Insert doc/pdf/jpg into BLOB using forms (web based)
Hi All,
we have 81741 db on window2000(data server), forms6.0.8.20.1 on windows2000(webserver)
& users using IE6/netscape as setup. User wants to store a pdf/doc/jpg file (stored on his PC)
into database.
He wants ability to view this pdf/doc/jpg later & have ability to download again to his pc. Please note
that we have web based setup & not using HTTP server (using WebDB listener).
I am planning to use BLOB to store the table in database, but cannot figure out what/how to force forms
to do this.
If someone has done this before, could you please update this thread on how to proceed.
Thanks a lot for your input...
Abhi.AS far as inserting images you can use the image item in Oracle Forms and base it on a blob column in the database.
Regarding the other types of data you can upload them to the database using a Java function on the application server (use the java importer from Forms to call the Java class). You can use another Java function to retrieve the info from the database to the application server, and then use web.show_document to get the file from the application server to the client.
Or you can wait a few weeks for the Webutil utility that will have this functunality built into it. -
Does the Designer ver. 5.6 has the capability to merge the form design(.mdf) and the data to produce a file in TIFF format instead of the default PDF format? Any help will be appreciated.
Central Pro Output Server will not create a tiff file. It can create pdf, pcl, postscript, zpl etc. but not tiff.
