Stored Procedures with Date data types and Oracle

This should be easy.... But i keep getting the error:
[Macromedia][Oracle JDBC Driver][Oracle]ORA-06550: line 1,
column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to

ignored
And I got it worked out to where i know it is a problem with
the way i am using the date data types in a stored procedure....
In the past i usually avoided calling procedures in Oracle
with date as the in type.... It is always easiest to let oracle
convert the string to a date.... Unfortunately now i am stuck with
having a date type in the procedure call.... So the question is:
WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY TO SUBMIT DATE/TIME STAMP IN A STORED
PROCEDURE?
The Oracle Procedure looks like this:

Yeah.... One is a type INOUT ref cursor.... which is denoted
by the cfprocresult....

    Some additional info would probably be helpful.
    What is your programming enviironment? Java?
    In any case I suspect that you will need to use the OCI to deal with specific Oracle types such as user defined object types -- thats not standard ANSI SQL.
    In Java I believe you need to use OPAQUE, there are some examples out there. I'm mostly a PL/SQL developer with some Java expereince so others here are more qualifed to answer your question more directly.

    As the related posts suggest, you will need to use direct JDBC code for this.
    Also I'm not sure JDBC supports the RECORD type, so you may need to wrap your stored functions with ones that either flatten the record out, or take OBJECT types.

    I have a procedure that takes a DATE parameter as input. I would like that DATE value to include a Time element.
    My Application Module method takes an input parameter as java.util.Date (myParamDate) - which will preserve a time element(?).

    Are you using OLEDB.NET driver (System.Data.Oledb) or ODP.NET driver (Oracle.DataAccess)?
    If you are using ODP.NET, remember that you need to bind the refcursor output variable also (besides the numbder)

    The reason why I want to use java for conversion is because, I want to perform base64 encoding decoding on the content stored in CLOB column. I tried to use by chunking the data into smaller pieces and apply the base64 encoding, but when I decode the CLOB using base64, I am not getting the same data. Later when I read about how base64 encoding happens I realized chunking the data in CLOB doesn't work. That's when I started to diggin how I can pass CLOB to java stored procedures.

    If I'm not mistaken, record types are not allowed. However, you can use object types instead. However, they must be database types. In other words, something like:
    create or replace type ROW_ABC as object (
    col1 varchar2(16),
    col2 varchar2(16),
    col3 varchar2(16 )
    create or replace type MATRIX_ABC as table of ROW_ABC
    /Then you can use the "ARRAY" and "STRUCT" (SQL) types in your java code. If I remember correctly, I recently answered a similar question either in this forum, or at JavaRanch -- but I'm too lazy to look for it now. Do a search for the terms "ARRAY" and "STRUCT".
    For your information, there are also code samples of how to do this on the OTN Web site.

  • Calling a Stored Procedure with a result set and returned parms

    I am calling a stored procedure from a Brio report. The stored procedure returns a result set, but also passes back some parameters. I am getting a message that states that the DBMS cannot find the SP with the same footprint. Besides the result set, the SP returns 3 out parameters: (Integer, char(60), char(40)). Is there something special I need to do in Brio to format the out parameters to be passed back from the SP.

  • Calling Stored Procedure with TestStand to SQL 2000

    When I run the Stored Procedure in the query analyzer it returns the recordset fine. I am not specifying any parameters. I am Using TestStand 2.01 and SQL Server 2000. I am using the OPEN SQL STATEMENT step to call the SP. When I run the SP in TestStand I get no data returned. If I run the SQL statment in TestStand I get the data that I am requesting. Does TestStand not support stored procedures.

    The instructions that I posted were for TestStand 3.0. In version 3.0 you can call stored procedures with input/output paramateres and to support this functionality the data operation step support several new modes.
    TestStand 2.0.1 does not support parameters on stored procedures, but it does support calling stored procedures that do not take parameters. To be able to access the data back from the database you need to set the cursor location (in the Advanced tab of the Open SQL Statement step) to Client (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/0EF68BF97AB1A61F86256B8E007D70C0?OpenDocument).
    By changing the cursor to Client I was able to succesfully call a stored procedure from TestStand 2.0.1 and to read back the recordse
    t return by the database. Please let me know if you are still experiencing dificulties.

    When you are creating a service from a Stored Procedure, the OracleAS WS tools will create necessary Java and PL wrapper code to handle the complex types (table of record) properly and make them compatible with XML format for SOAP messages.
    So what you should do is to use JDeveloper or WSA command line, to create a service from your store procedure and you will see that most of the work will be done for you.

    Stored procedure returns no data when executed on the report but when i execute the stored procedure in Sql Developer it returns required rows.

    When i test with simple query, i get the data.
    For your convenience, my stored proc looks lyk :
    PROCEDURE pr_REPORT_data(P_STARTDATE IN DATE, P_ENDDATE IN DATE, data_rows OUT T_CURSOR) AS

      SELECT

    WHERE

    END pr_REPORT_data;          
    T_CURSOR is of type cursor which is declared on the package.
    I'm assuming the problem is with date parameters, however i converted the date before passing to
    WHERE clause. 

  • Scripted JDBC and Oracle Stored Procedure with in/out Array

    The com.waveset.util.pooledconnection used by Scripted JDBC Adapter extends java.sql.connection.
    I need to pass an Varchar2 Array to the Stored Procedure. I tried using the oracle.sql.ARRAY and oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor to pass the values, but get a casting exception,as the polledconnection implements only the java.sql.connection and not oracle.sql.connection.
    What are my options of using java.sql.Array with a PL/SQL procedure that takes a varchar2 array as in out parameter?

  • Stored Procedure w/ binary data parameter problems in Visual Basic

    Howdy all.
    I am having a problem calling stored procedures with a BLOB parameter. I have tried changing the paramater other data types to see if it would work, but with no success. I am calling the stored procedure from Visual Basic using ADO. I am using the Oracle ODBC Driver, Release 9.2.0.4.0. I have tried changing the setup of the ODBC a good bit because that has fixed several problems for me in the past; however, it did not fix my current problem.
    Here is what I am trying to do. I have a function like the folowing:

    The FormatData parameter has a data type of BLOB. In my Visual Basic, I have my ADODB.Command object. I am setting the CommandText of the Command object to "{? = call PageFormatsInsert(?, ?, ?, ?, ?)}". In order to set the parameter value for the BLOB data type, I am calling the AppendChunk function of the Command object - passing it a Byte array.
    I am getting the folling error:
         ERROR: -2147467259 [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-06550: line 1, column 13:
         PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'PAGEFORMATSINSERT'
         ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
         PL/SQL: Statement ignored
    If I change the FormatData parameter to a LONG RAW parameter, I get the following error:
         ERROR: -2147467259 [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: hex to raw conversion error
         ORA-06512: at line 1
    I am at a loss as to how to get binary data into by Oracle database. I need to do it using stored procedures. How can I set up my stored procedure or table to do what I want it to do? Should I change my table definition? Are there some settings in the ODBC connection I can tweak? How can I get the stored procedure to accept my call from VB ADO?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the idea, but I don't get how I am supposed to get my binary data to the stored procedure using the stream. I have a binary array that I want to pass to a stored procedure. I want to be able to use the same Visual Basic front end with out MSSQL database as with our Oracle database.
    I am using the ADODB Connection and Command and RecordSet objects. Currenlty our front end calls the ADODB.Command(ParamNumber).AppendChunk function passing it the binary array. Somehow, the SQL Server driver does the magic in order for the MSSQL stored procedure to work correctly. I need to know how to do one of the following:
    1. Get the Oracle driver to do the same magic.
    2. Set up the Oracle stored procedure so I don't have to change the VB front end.
    3. Change the VB front end so that it works with both MSSQL and Oracle.
