Storing a Java HashMap in a Table

Hi! I would like to know how to store a HashMap in an Oracle table and if so how should I create the Table with suitable column type.Thanks

Each entry in your HashMap is a Map.Entry with one Java Object representing its Key and another representing its Value. You need a table with at least two columns to store this information, one for the Key and one for the Value.
The data types you need in this table will be determined by the data types you are using for these two objects in your HashMap. For example, if I use a character Key of no more than 40 characters but of variable length I would create a column of datatype VARCHAR(40) NOT NULL to hold these values and if my Value objects were really floating point numbers I would use a DOUBLE and so on.
If you have a mixture of Object types for the Key or the Value you are going to have to store a generalized representation of the object types; see topics discussing storage of serialized or XML object representations in a relational database.

  • Writing a stored procedure to import SQL Server table data into a Oracle table

    Hello,
    As a new DBA I have been tasked with writing a stored procedure to import SQL Server table data into an Oracle table. I have been given many suggestions on how to do it from SQL Server but I I just need to write a stored procedure to run it from the Oracle side. Suggestions/guidance on where to start would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
    I started to write it based on what I have but I know this is not correct :/
    # Here is the select statement for the data source in SQL Server...
    SELECT COMPANY
    ,CUSTOMER
    ,TRANS_TYPE
    ,INVOICE
    ,TRANS_DATE
    ,STATUS
    ,TRAN_AMT
    ,CREDIT_AMT
    ,APPLD_AMT
    ,ADJ_AMT
    ,TRANS_USER1
    ,PROCESS_LEVEL
    ,DESCRIPTION
    ,DUE_DATE
    ,OUR_DATE
    ,OUR_TIME
    ,PROCESS_FLAG
    ,ERROR_DESCRIPTION
      FROM data_source_table_name
    #It loads data into the table in Oracle....
    Insert into oracle_destination_table_name (
    COMPANY,
    CUSTOMER,
    TRANS_TYPE,
    INVOICE,
    TRANS_DATE,
    STATUS,
    TRANS_AMT,
    CREDIT_AMT,
    APPLD_AMT,
    ADJ_AMT,
    TRANS_USER1,
    PROCESS_LEVEL,
    DESCRIPTION,
    DUE_DATE,
    OUR_DATE,
    OUR_TIME,
    PROCESS_FLAG,
    ERROR_DESCRIPTION)
    END;

    CREATE TABLE statements would have been better as MS-SQL and Oracle don't have the same data types.
    OUR_DATE, OUR_TIME will (most likely) be ONE column in Oracle.
    DATABASE LINK
    Personally, I'd just load the data over a database link:
    insert into oracle_destination_table_name ( <column list> )
    select ... <transform data here>
    from data_source_table@mssql_db_link
    As far as creating the database link from Oracle to MS-SQL ... that is for somebody else to answer.
    (most likely you'll need to use an ODBC driver)
    EXTERNAL TABLE
    If the data from MS-SQL is in a CSV file, just use and external table.
    same concept:
    insert into oracle_destination_table_name ( <column list> )
    select ... <transform data here>
    from data_source_external_table

  • Could anyone provide sample of WebDynpro Java TableFilter for Dynamic Table

    Hi
    I have a dynamic table I have given a context node as a data source and it executes a Web Service and populates itself based on the resultset of query this node contains no of columns and rows
    The table changes dynamically everytime the user selects different table type
    When I created a TableFilter I used IWDTableColumn from the current view and looped though the context elements and binded the values of attributes of each context element to this column inside a loop. TableSort works, But I  am not able to get the Filter working for the Dynamic Table , when I click on Filter Button the Filter does not filterand  just sorts.
    Not sure what is wrong but if someone can give some inputs,leads I will highly appreciate if some one has  a  sample of WebDynpro Java TableFilter for Dynamic Table
    Thanks in advance,
    Ragu.

    Hi Ragu,
    Please check the link for table filtering.
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/WDJava/GenericTableFilter+Code
    since your dynamic table uses webservice I assume it has fixed context attributes, just put the filter into wdDoModify method everytime you execute/trigger the webservice.

  • Linking Java to Access Database tables

    Hello,
    I need use JCreator to link Java to Access Database tables.
    Could any one tell me what kind of drivers I need use?
    Also, where could I find the examples of linking Java to Access Database tables?
    Thank you,
    Daniel

    Thanks.
    I have read the tutorial and downloaded the sample code from the web http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/
    In the CreateCoffee.java programming, I made the following changes:
         //     String url = "jdbc:mySubprotocol:myDataSource";
              String url = "jdbc:odbc:DB1";
    DB1 is an Access Database file located in the same folder as CreateCoffee.java.
    //Class.forName("myDriver.ClassName");
                   Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    Every time when I run the CreateCoffee.java programming, it shows the following running error:
    SQLException:[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]
    Data source name not found and no default driver specified.
    Could any one have any suggestions for solving the above problem?
    Thank you,

  • Re: Storing/Retrieving ImageData in/from DB tables

    Sai,
    I prefer storing image in file (easier maintenance, copy, portability
    etc.) on a file server, therefore i suggest the following example:
    img_temp : imagedata = new();
    img_path = '...';
    img_temp.readfromfile(file=img_path);
    <pic>.imagevalue = img_temp.clone(deep = true);
    So you have to only store image path (file name) in SQL table column
    (varchar type) and set img_path variable when you wish to display the
    picture. I think this solution is quicker than retrieving SQL binary
    data ( i guess you have common file server...)

  • Java Dictionary or ABAP tables

    Dear all,
    Can anybody tell me when to make use of Java Dictionary?
    I've seen different projects that make use of ABAP tables as well as Java dictionary to store data. But what will be the criteria to decide which one I should choose for  my data persistence?
    For example, I've a requirement at my hand, which will have huge data transfer per day & the number of records in the table will be in lacs. Where will I persist my data in Java dictionary or ABAP tables?
    What are the pros & cons of each?
    Regards,
    Aparnna

    Hi
    Sir as your question : I wanted to know the pros & cons of using Java Dictionary (Dictionary DC) as well as ABAP tables ?
    Please try to understand both are different things in their context , OK let me try again
    1.  Java Dictonary is used used to define the table structure its data types and  used for portal database if it is small/ lightweighted.
    2.ABAP table is again for defining the structure , datatypes , which is used in RFC/BAPI.
    3. When to use what or Pros & Cons
    Java supports more models (Javabeans, web services, adaptive RFC, and XMI) . Data Dictonary is common every where  ,OK
    Compared to the function module model in  ABAP,
    (so u can think like this that  ABAP tables are base in SAP environment to define metadata of the databse , Similar concept java has implemented using data dictonary)
    There is nothing comparable because both have their own purpose to serve, except Java Dictonary are mostly use for small project or if project involvment is only in Java., where as ABAP table has no limit .
    and ,
    Second thing is both has code wizards to generate the metatdata after definition.

  • Pass java HASHMAP to oralce procedure

    Hi,
    I have Java HashMap(<key, value). Can i pass it to oracle procedure?
    I am using java 1.4 and oracle 10g.
    any help

    Hi,
    Some information, From the point of the view that the need is to pass an object from java to PLSQL or vice versa (Not HashMap, but data which can be manipulated in PLSQL)
    What you need to do/investigate is ..
    1. Load your java files to database (using loadjava integrated in JDev better, else seperately)
    2. Create PLSQL procedure for the java method using JDev)
    3. Define PLSQL object which you want to use as counter part of the java object. (Its reverse, first create plsql object)
    4. In jdeveloper connection navigator,use generte java to generate corresponding java object class.
    The above information is to fascilitate information exchange between java and PLSQL in terms of Objects. Based on one of projects I had done.
    If abouvGive a little try and probably you may be able to do reverse (first define Java OBject (you have HashMap here) and then the PLSQL Object.)
    Most of the things are automated in JDeveloper. Just explore it.

  • How to access the data stored in Java tables in E-Commerce 7.0

    For the CRM E-Commerce 7.0 Web shop all the data related order templates, Shop Id and catalog variants are not getting stored in CRM tables. Can anyone please let us know where all the details are getting stored.
    By searching here, in SDN Forum we found that these details are getting stored in some java tables. If this is true  kindly let us know the following points.
    1). How can we access these tables.
    2).Where these java tables are stored .
    3).Do we have authorizations to check and modify these tables.
    4).If we donu2019t have authorizations to check and modify these tables, how can we get the access to them.
    4).How can we write Database Queries to retrieve the data from these tables.

    I am afraid, all these three entities are in CRM tables.
    Web Shops - Function module CRM_ISA_SHOP_GETLIST, Table crmm_isa_shop_h
    Catalog Variants - Function module - COM_PRDCAT_GET_VARIANTS (they are also stored in CRM tables) for a given catalog.
    Now for the Order Templates - They are technically order objects with system status set to "Order Template" I1034. You should be able to see them in CRM tables alongwith other orders... crmd_orderadm_h and etc...

  • Joining java array with SQL table in a stored procedure

    Hey,
    I am calling a pl/sql stored procedure from a java program passing two arrays (employees) and (departments) as parameters to the procedure. Within the procedure I have stored the arrays in a table of records like this:
    type t_emp_type is record (employee_id number, department_id number);
    type t_emp_tbl_type is table of t_emp_type index by binary_integer;
    Where all elements in employees are stored in the employee_id column and departments are stored in the department_id column. So basically I've got a table like:
    l_employee_tbl t_emp_tbl_type;
    Looped through the arrays and stored the data like:
    for i in 1..p_employees.count loop
    l_employee_tbl(i).employee_id := p_employees(i);
    l_employee_tbl(i).deparment_id := p_departments(i);
    end loop;
    Now I would like to compare my l_employee_tbl with a SQL table in the database. Basically I would like to join my l_employee_tbl table with a SQL table named departments on department_id, returning all department_id:s that was not found in table departments.
    However, it is not possible to select from a user-defined table type. I have also tried to use the table() function and to cast l_employee_tbl, but found out it can't be done with records. And I would really like to use records or some other type where define my PL/SQL data. I know that you should not mix PL/SQL and SQL but in this case I think it is more efficient to try joining these "tables". Does anyone have a solution for this or advice to try something else out? It would be most appreciated.

Basically I would like to join my l_employee_tbl table with a SQL table named departments on department_id, returning all department_id:s that was not found in table departments. Of course, not possible as the SQL engine does not support PL/SQL user defined types. PL/SQL however support user defined SQL types. Which makes SQL defined types a lot more flexible.
    However, it is not possible to select from a user-defined table type. I have also tried to use the table() function and to cast l_employee_tbl, but found out it can't be done with records. Never mind SQL and PL/SQL - as a generic programming data structure principle. How do you expect being able to cast an associative array (name-value pairs) to a standard array? The two data structures are very different. So I'm puzzled in how you expect to move a non-scalar name-value pair data structure into a non-scalar value only data structure?
    And I would really like to use records or some other type where define my PL/SQL data. Why exactly? If the Java or PL/SQL data structure is populated using SQL data and database data, and wanting to use that data structure in SQL, what is the point? Why pull SQL data into a client data structure at all then - surely it is far more performant and scalable to rather keep that data in the database, and do the joins/selects/filters/etc using SQL?
    There is also the issue of scalability of local data structures in PL/SQL. The PL/SQL engine runs inside an Oracle server process, consuming private process memory on the server. The bigger the data structures used in PL/SQL, the more server memory needs to be allocated to that server process. This does not scale. Especially not if 10 or more such server processes are running the same PL/SQL code and each server needs to grab large chunks of server memory.
    If the data from Java comes from another source (e.g. keyboard, etc), and you need a means of storing this data server-side for use by PL/SQL and SQL. There are 2 basic choices. PL/SQL arrays for smallish amounts of data - and basing these arrays preferable on SQL data types allowing the array to be used by both SQL and PL/SQL engines. If the amount of data is not smallish, then it should be stored in the SQL engine (database) as that is designed for that exact purpose. And if the data is transient, then a GTT (global temp table) structure can be used (and indexed for optimal access).

    Here you have two keys that not only have the same hashCode, but also are equal(). If you had two keys that had the same hashCode but were not equal, then they would hash to the same bucket, but both would be present in the map--neither would overwrite the other.
    In the future, when posting code, use code tags so it will be readable. Copy/paste from your original source in your editor, highlight the code, and click the CODE button.

  • Trigger java client update when table changes

    I have a Java Swing client and a C worker program. Both need to communicate with each other via events (C writes progress to Oracle table, Java Swing client displays progress to user).
    I thought I'd do this via a trigger on an oracle table. However, I couldn't figure out how to achieve that. Well, creating the trigger was the easy part, but how do I let the trigger and as a follow-up a stored procedure communicate with my Java client? All the info I found was about triggers and how to store a Java method in an Oracle DB. That's not what I need. I guess I need to register my Java client somehow to monitor the trigger / table.
    Does anyone know how to do that? I'd prefer to not use any additional libraries (Oracle AQ libraries, Oracle streams). A simple trigger would suffice.
    Thank you very much for your help!

    I don't agree with either of these comments. Please explain them and provide any supporting documentation or other reliabe sources that you are basing these comments on.
    In particular clarify whether your comments are about the technology of notification in general or whether you feel that the notification solution is not appropriate for this particular use case.
    Polling is generally a terribly wasteful, inefficient and non-productive method of trying to identify changes that happen in a database. Provide supporting documentation for that.
    Naturally the actual metrics for this depend on the number, types and frequency of the DB changes in general and with their relation to the polling frequency in particular.Yep. And most of the time the specifics for that is such that one or both the following is true
    1. The requirements are wrong (for example no GUI needs to be update 100 times a second.)
    2. The requirements are loose enough that polling is perfectly adquate and appropriate solution.
    Oracle itself has gone in the opposite direction with the technology that it develops as can be inferred by the various methods provided in recent releases to support replication and the technology underlying the support of fast refresh materialized views.
    Oracle has all sorts of stuff in it. That doesn't mean that it ideal for all situations or even most situations.
    These technologies include Advanced Queuing, Change Data Capture, Advanced Replication, Standby Databases and the like.
    The only major Oracle technology that I am aware of that does not tend towards publish/subscribe is LogMiner and it does not use polling but rather uses a batch query process.
    And yet for 20 years people have managed to implement large solutions without that.
    Detection of DB changes is difficult for even small single tables without using functionality provided by Oracle specifically for that purpose. There are many, many references in these forums and on the web in general where developers have attempted to 'roll-their-own' procedures for detecting changes after the fact. Most of these attempts are flawed both in their design and execution.
    And yet you think that this new technology will provide immediate error free solutions both on Oracles sides and the implementors side?
    Polling is generally wasteful and inefficient for several reasons. First, poll queries can execute repeatedly when there haven't been any changes at all. This effort is entirely wasted and non-productive.
    I have a large volume database server whose cpu utilization is less than 3% with a projected volume this year of 3/4 billion dollars. In the mid 1980s I was more concerned with utilization. Not so much any more.
    On the other hand experience would suggest that developers have far, far more problems getting the database designs right in the first place. So I don't have great confidence in their ability to use brand new technologies to solve large volume problems.
    And if they don't have large volumes then the point is moot.
    The poll queries cannot easily determine exactly when the change occured; change meaning it was COMMITTED to the database. The common approach of updating columns such as MODIFIED_DATE within a trigger are flawed because any such date/time assigned in the trigger is virtually guaranteed to occur BEFORE the data is actually committed.
    The classic flaw manifests itself when the trigger assigns a value before midnight but the commit actually occurs after midnight. Thus two INSERT/UPDATES can have their data COMMITTED at exactly the same SCN and timestamp value but the MODIFIED_DATE values can be for two different days.
    There is no way to query this data on a nightly basis to get 'changes that happened today' with the risk of missing data the next night when the extract occurs, or worse, duplicating some data in the extracts for two different nights.
    I agree that the design you specified is flawed.
    It however is an excellent demonstration of how a developer might create a flawed design - as I a suggested. New technologies do not fix flawed designs. All they do is provide even more ways to create flawed designs. Which is exacerbated by large volume needs.
    And 'pushing from the database'? The change notification process is similar to publish/subscribe mechanisms and also similar to the way that listeners are used in Java.
    Certainly you wouldn't suggest that Java applications should 'poll' GUI objects to see if a user has taken any action would you?
    I agree your analogy is not apt for this discussion.
