Storing text with format

I have a requirement like this.I have to store the textframes' text into a xml file and I should also be able to reproduce the textframes along with original format(text color,underline,bold etc) from xml.I thought of using rtf format.
I want to know how to convert the textframe text into rtf(to a pmstring).
Is there any other format to store in xml file other than rtf ?which is simpler ?
Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't have any trouble re-displaying it in a TextArea.
Do you explicitly remove the linebreaks at some point?
So somewhere along the way it is "losing" the linebreaks.
Is it received at the java end with linebreaks?
Is it stored in the database with linebreaks?
If you view source in the HTML does it show the value with linebreaks?
How are you putting the value into the text area ta2?
The standard way would be <textarea> ${myTextHere} </textarea>
If that has carriage returns in the value, then they should come straight out into the second textarea.
If you are just displaying the data OUTSIDE of a text area, on an html page, then things are different, because HTML ignores whitespace by default.
You could use <pre> tags around the value to stop it being messed with. ie <pre> ${myTextHere} </textarea>
Or alternatively replace all newlines in the value with "<br>" - which is the HTML to say "go to the next line"

  • InDesign CS3 crashes when applying styles to pasted text with formatting.

    Running InDesign CS3, v. 5.0.2 on Windows XP, SP2
    InDesign is crashing whenever I do the following:
    1. Paste or place text from Microsoft Word -- with existing formatting preserved.
    2. Apply any character or paragraph style to that text.
    This happens 100% of the time when I try to recreate the error. It happens on more than one computer. It never used to happen in IDCS2. It's not a missing font issue.
    I've tried recreating the InDesign preference files, but it didn't work. (See help file at http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb400616&sliceId=1)
    Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated! This is slowing down my work a ton, and manually adding things like underline is killing me. If it persists, I'll have to roll back to CS2. :(

    We had exactly the same issue - but it only seemed to happen when a "Hyperlink" character style came in with the pasted text. In fact, the crash only happened when we tried to apply a paragraph style to a paragraph that had a hyperlink in it.
    Our solution: before we try to do anything else, we delete the "Hyperlink" character style. I can't guarantee that this will solve your issue, but it has worked for us (so far!) in those rare cases when we cut & paste Word text.
    We have never had this issue when we import ("Place") the Word file - that's generally a better workflow anyway.

  • Adf Input Text with formatted xml Content

    Hi,

    Please tell me any component that will properly structure the input xml
    How can I do this.

    User, please tell us your jdev version!
    There is no component AFAIK. You may want to try the rich text editor, but if I remember it correct it won't do what you want.
    My solution would be to write a custom converter and format the code in the converter to show it then in the inputText.

  • Replace Text with Formatting

    Captivate 7 - Windows 7

    I am using CP 7 and Word 2010 and some really strange fonts including Neurpol, etc. Anyway it worked perfectly for five of my six modules (projects). For one however, the import affected no change so I cleared my preferences (a trick Iearned from youi), and the import worked perfectly.
    Altogether I had approximately 800 replacements. Doing it manually would have been a nightmare! Especially given that Captivate does not highlight the word when found (at least in my version-instance of CP 7).
    Thanks for replying!

  • Issue Using C# to Get RTF Text From Clipboard to Outlook With Formatting and Without Encoding Tags

    I have created a little application that gathers data from various text boxes and then combines the data into a formatted richTextBox.  A person using the tool asked if I could then add a button that would allow that text (with formatting) to be copied
    and pasted into an Outlook Email.  When I do this, I can get the text into an email, but I either strip out the formatting or I get all the RTF encoding tags to come along with it.
    I have tested to see that the copy of the data from the richTextBox has indeed made it to the clipboard correctly.  This has been verified by the fact that I can manually press "ctrl" + "v" and I can past the text with proper
    formatting into the mail body.
    I do know that I can brute force things by trying to manually wrap HTML tags around my textBox fields and then pipe that into an HTMLBody property.  In fact I can get a lot of things to work with the HTMLBody property, but while it is nice that will
    work, I feel that I must be missing something really simple while trying to work with RTF.
    I currently am pasting (using the Clipboard.GetText(TestDataFormat.RTF)) the RTF data into the Body property of the mail item.  This is bringing in all the RTF encoding tags.  I have tried to paste this directly into the RTFBody of the mail item,
    yet an execption gets thrown when executed.  Oddly, though, if I change RTFBody to HTMLBody, I do not get the exception, but I still have the RTF encoding tags in it.  Though if I feed the HTMLBody property straight, HTML text with the encoding tags,
    it will render properly.
    This has me confused then why if I feed HTMLBody HTML text with the encoding tags that it will render, but if I try and do the same for RTFBody and feed it RTF text with encoding tags it still throws an exception.  Any help in the matter would be greatly
    appreciated.  I have included the code snippet below for sending the richTextBox information to the clipboard and then attempting to retrieve it and paste it into an Outlook email.
    Thanks for the help.
    Some pertinent information:
    Blend for Visual Studio 2015 CTP6 (I switched from VS2012 as intellisense was added to Blend in 2015)
    Because of this Systems.Windows.Forms is not in use
    private void buttonEmail_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    //Copy richTextBox information to Clipboard
    Clipboard.Clear();
    richTextBox.SelectAll();
    richTextBox.Copy();
    //Get current date to add to email subject line
    DateTime myNewDate = new DateTime();
    myNewDate = DateTime.Now;
    //Create Email
    Outlook.Application myNewApplication = new Outlook.Application();
    Outlook.MailItem myNewMailIoI = myNewApplication.CreateItem(Outlook.OlItemType.olMailItem) as Outlook.MailItem;
    myNewMailIoI.To = " "; //An attempt to ensure that the focus moves down to the body field
    myNewMailIoI.Subject = "IoI - " + myNewDate.Date.ToString("d");
    myNewMailIoI.BodyFormat = Outlook.OlBodyFormat.olFormatRichText;
    //Pasting data into body of email
    myNewMailIoI.Body = Clipboard.GetText(TextDataFormat.Rtf); //This will past the text with encoding tags into email
    //If this section is uncommented, it will add a properly formatted HTML text to the email
    //myNewMailIoI.BodyFormat = Outlook.OlBodyFormat.olFormatHTML;
    //myNewMailIoI.HTMLBody = "<p>This stinks!!!</p>" + "<p style='color: green; font-size:10pt; font-family:arial'>different font and color</p>";
    myNewMailIoI.Display(); //Allow for window to be minimized
    myNewMailIoI.Display(true);

    Ok, I found the solution.  Part of the issue was caused by the confusion of the HTML body property acting as a text encoder for HTML text when a string is passed in vs the RTF Body property needing to have a plain text file taken and encoded into a
    byte stream.  Even though the RTF text is in readable text (albeit with the RTF Encoding Tags) it needs to be reencoded into a series of bytes.
    This is where I failed to understand the previous answers.  I knew that RTF Body needed to have a array of bytes, and the previous answers seemed to indicate that the data in the clipboard was already in this byte format (this may have just been my
    misunderstanding) and that I needed to somehow take this byte array and do something with it.  My misunderstanding was that all the methods for getting values from the clipboard returned strings and not bytes.
    after some digging last night and with the few hints that were offered before, I came across a post on CodeProject (apparently I cannot post links, so I will try and include this so that you can find the postcodeproject(DOTCOM)/Questions/766917/How-to-convert-richtextbox-output-into-bytearray).
    This showed that I needed to take the raw, RTF text with its RTF encoding tags from the clipboard and and encode it to a byte array and then pass this into the RTF Body property.  Included below is the final code such that I hope that it helps some other
    person as there seem to be a lot of searches for this on the web, but not a lot of direct answers.
    using System.Text;
    using Outlook = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook;
    private void buttonEmail_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    //Copy richTextBox information to Clipboard
    Clipboard.Clear();
    richTextBox.SelectAll();
    richTextBox.Copy();
    //Get current date to add to email subject line
    DateTime myNewDate = new DateTime();
    myNewDate = DateTime.Now;
    //Create Email
    Outlook.Application myNewApplication = new Outlook.Application();
    Outlook.MailItem myNewMailIoI = myNewApplication.CreateItem(Outlook.OlItemType.olMailItem) as Outlook.MailItem;
    //Add Subject
    myNewMailIoI.Subject = "IoI - " + myNewDate.Date.ToString("d");
    //Set Body Format to RTF
    myNewMailIoI.BodyFormat = Outlook.OlBodyFormat.olFormatRichText;
    //Converting RAW RTF data from string to bytes. THIS IS THE FIX THAT WAS NEEDED TO MAKE IT WORK
    string myNewText = Clipboard.GetText(TextDataFormat.Rtf);
    byte[] myNewRtfBytes = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(myNewText); //This line cost me way too many hours of lost sleep!!!
    //Inserting RTF bytes into RTFBody property
    myNewMailIoI.RTFBody = myNewRtfBytes;
    myNewMailIoI.Display(); //Displays the newlycreated email
    //If this section is uncommented, it will add a properly formatted HTML text to the email
    //myNewMailIoI.BodyFormat = Outlook.OlBodyFormat.olFormatHTML;
    //myNewMailIoI.HTMLBody = "<p>This works for the HTMLbody property!!!</p>" + "<p style='color: green; font-size:10pt; font-family:arial'>this renders properly</p>";

  • Formatting text with Safari

    I am posting ads on a website that doesn't use Safari (or any non PC system, from what I gather) for formatting. As a result, when I paste text in it only allows ktml formatting, which doesn't make paragraphs or do anything else. Is there a way to create text with formatting that will paste in as I format it, or is there a MAC-friendly browser that will allow me to format?

    If this site is really using KTML (as opposed to HTML), then you really don't have many choices for editing anything. Formatting is limited to the site design and capabilities of the system as they designed it.
    You might try this site for a script that works in Safari: http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/57712.html

  • Export to excel with formatting was autowrapping text in a cell

    Export to excel with formatting was autowrapping text in a cell without having to check the can grow option.  When the can grow option is checked it does wrap the text however it spans multiple rows, which causes complications when trying to sort.
    It worked in:
    ProductVersion=10.0.0.533
    ProductName=Crystal Enterprise 10 Embedded
    Doesnt work in:
    Crystal Reports 10.0 Service Pack 6
    After the upgrade the reports did not autowrap, b/c the "can grow" option was not checked.  I believe this was fixed by "ADAPT00305137 Patch ID: 36479914
    Description:
    When users export to Excel 97-2000 with the page-based format, text fields are wrapped, even when the "can grow" feature in the
    Designer is turned off." .   After we turn the option to grow on it does wrap however it spans across multiple rows.  So I guess my question is there a way for it not to span multiple rows when wrapping text?
    Edited by: dforde on Jan 27, 2010 11:12 PM

    I could be wrong, but I believe the export to excel option exports the database values, and the export to HTML exports the values seen in the sheets. If the database values are stored as seconds, the Excel will see them as seconds, and the data will have to be formatted properly in Excel.
    I haven't toyed around with Excel exports that much, but it might be possible to set up a template or macro in excel that would have the proper formatting, and use it when opening the Disco export.

  • Is it possible to add new columns with format "Text" once a table is linked to a form

    Is it possible to add new columns with format "Text" once a table is linked to a form in Numbers for iPhone or is it impossible and thus a serious bug?(Rating stars and numeric vales seem to work.)
    Those bugs happen both for new speadsheets as well as existing onces, like the demo. When you are in the form only the numeric keyboard shows up.
    Pat from the Apple Store Rosenstrasse/Germany approved that it looks like a Bug during the Numbers Workshop I was in: It is not possible to add new columns with format "Text". I reported the error for Version 1.4 but there is no update nor do I get statement of understanding the issue.

    Hi Knochenhort,
    I see what you are talking about now. Without knowing how the program actually works, I think this is what's going on:
    When you add a new column to an already existing table (with already existing formats), the new cells come already formatted like the previous column. So when you add a column to the end of the demo table, the cells are already formatted like stars, and when you add a column to the beginning, they're already formatted like number.
    I think this is why it's different when if you add columns to a table with blank (unformatted) columns. In that case, the new cells aren't already "tainted" with a set format, so you can change to text format without issue.
    It seems like the problem is that you can't format cells that are already formatted as "number" as "text" format (even if it doesn't look like they are, because they are blank). IMO, this is a bug! This is why you don't see this issue when adding columns to a new table, because the new cells don't already come with a format.
    To workaround, you can highlight the body cells after adding the new column, and delete the cells. This will "clear" the formatting, so you can then go in the inspector, format them as text, and the correct keyboard will pop up.
    Hope that helps!

  • Formatting incoming text with style sheets

    Is there a way to "find/change" formatted text with existing style sheets?<br /><br />In other words I have formatted text placed into my indesign document that looks like the following: <bf>Four Patch</bf> Then another set of text that looks like this:<it> Baltimore Press</it> <br /><br />I set up stles sheets formatted for Bold font and Ital font to accomodate these formats. Problem is I have a 500 page book that I need to go through and stylize. I tried to do a find/change global (<bf> </bf> to bold font etc but it didn't work. I was hoping by just putting a space between the <> would  help the find/change option to find all the text but kept saying could find.<br /><br />I hope someone understands what I'm trying to do and can tell me that there is a remedy to the tedious formatting issue I have.<br /><br />Thanks<br /><br />MAria<br />Stuart, Florida

    If you have InDesign CS3, I can think of two ways to deal with this.
    Grep search: set search to
    <bf>([^<]+)</bf>
    and replacement string to
    $1
    and then set the change format to your boldface style. Change all. (I often think it's a good idea to take a copy before doing Change All on a 500-page document, but that's up to you.) Repeat with hopefully obvious changes for the italics. You can save the searches if you need to do this often.
    Adventurous alternative.
    Put the single line
    <stuff>
    at the top of your file, and
    </stuff>
    at the bottom.
    Now it's XML. So open the structure panel, import XML from the fly-out menu. Map Tags to Styles from the same menu, and set up the correspondence you need. Then drag the stuff node from the structure panel to the document.
    If you have to do this more than once, you can import the mapping from an old file each time after the first.
    IMPORTANT: The XML route will fail if you have loose & or less than characters in your file. You would have to replace these with the appropriate character entity references.
    (If you aren't reading this on the forum site, you may be seeing character entity references in the message. Hopefully you can decode them.)

  • Extract text with specific format ?

    Hello,
    Is there a way to extract text with a specific format in a document (i.e. font type/ size or even font colour)?
    thanks in advance!

    Hello gillad,
    I am afraid only indicators are the bold font or text colour...
    Having said that, just as I was writting my response, the following idea came to me:
    Convert the pdf into word
    Click on text of interest (text with distinct format)
    Use the feature "select all text with similar formating (no data)" under "editing" within the "home" ribbon
    Having said that, hopefully a tool set/ action can be developed one day...

  • Getting values from a stored procedure with no parameters

    Hi,
    I'm trying to get values out of a stored procedure that I created on SQL server. I'm trying to get XML values out of the database, but I'm not sure how to get any data out of it written to a file if the procedure doesn't have any parameters.
    So I'm just making a call:
    CallableStatement cs = conn.prepareCall("{call myproc}");
    cs.execute();How do I get values back from this stage?
    Thank you very much,
    Lior

    The short form answer, which assumes that the stored procedure is returning the XML as an out parameter would go something like this.
         public void build(String newUserID, String newPassword) throws SQLException {
              String sql = "{ call GET_ITEM_DETAIL(?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?) }" ;
              try{
                   init(newUserID, newPassword) ;
                   setCallableStatement(getConnection().prepareCall(sql)) ;
                   getCallableStatement().setInt(1, getItemNumber()) ;
                   getCallableStatement().registerOutParameter(2, oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleTypes.CURSOR) ;
                   getCallableStatement().registerOutParameter(3, oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleTypes.INTEGER) ;
                   getCallableStatement().registerOutParameter(4, oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleTypes.VARCHAR);
                   getCallableStatement().registerOutParameter(5, oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleTypes.VARCHAR) ;
                   getCallableStatement().registerOutParameter(6, oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleTypes.VARCHAR) ;
                   getCallableStatement().execute() ;
                   setSqlResult(getCallableStatement().getInt(3)) ;
                   setSqlMessage(getCallableStatement().getString(4)) ;
                   if( getSqlResult() != 0 ){
                        throw new SQLException(getSqlMessage(), null, getSqlResult()) ;
                   setResultSet((java.sql.ResultSet) getCallableStatement().getObject(2)) ;
                   if( getResultSet() != null ){
                        while( getResultSet().next() ){
                             setItemType(getResultSet().getString("ITEM_TYPE")) ;
                             setItemValue(getResultSet().getString("ITEM_VAL")) ;
                             setDisplayType(getCallableStatement().getString(5)) ;
                             setDisplaySize(Integer.parseInt(getCallableStatement().getString(6))) ;
              catch(SQLException e){
                   java.util.Date now = new java.util.Date() ;
                   java.text.DateFormat format = java.text.DateFormat.getInstance() ;
                   setSqlMessage( e.getClass().getName() + " : " + format.format(now) + " : " + e.getMessage() + " : IN " + getClass().getName() ) ;
                   System.err.println(getSqlMessage()) ;
                   throw e ;
              finally{
                   closeResources() ;
         }The GET_ITEM_DETAIL stored procedure returns several out parameters of various types. The code registers them as out parameters along with an anticipated type and then calls the getXXX(n) method that corresponds with that data type in the appropriate position.
    As I mentioned in my other post, the onus of returning the XML is on the stored procedure, when you get it into Java it's going to be a java.lang.String that you can then parse by whatever means is appropriate to your situation.

  • Generate a report in text file format

    Hello Experts,
           I need to write a program to generate a report in a text file format which is later saved on a directory in the application server. I have the fields with the sources defined and also the filters, selections, rows and columns. For example:-
    0company code (US) as the filter, 0CALDAY as the selection, CUSTNAM as the object in the row with sources coming from BUKRS and ZSD_CCUST. Can someone initiate or direct me to an already existing forum or throw some light on the issue.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    As mentioned above, the Open Hub service allows to extract data from an InfoCube/ODS/InfoObject and then store it a database table or flat file stored in the application server. You can start in transaction RSBO and create an InfoSpoke there.
    To schedule an extraction using an InfoSpoke, you need to place it in a process chain.

  • Drop-down Text - Bullet Format

    Can bullets in a drop-down text box be different than the bullet of the item it is describing. In RoboHelp 9, the bullets take on the formatting of the original item even though I have them formatted differently.
    Here is an example of what I'm trying to do.
    I start with this list:
    When I create the drop-down text and format the bullets within this text for item "Line 1", they look like this.
    When I view the selected item and/or when I generate and view it, I get the following result.
    Obviously I didn't create the drop-down text with the large square bullet, but it appears to pick up the bullet from the main listing.
    How can I get separate formatting for the drop-down text?  Is there something wrong with the formatting of my drop-down text box?
    I do have drop-down text boxes in RoboHelp 7 that have different bullet formatting, but the only way this could be achieved is by leaving the formatting of the original list as Normal and inserting the bullet as an image.
    This shows the list item with an inserted image as the bullet and in Normal format.
    This shows the formatting that I would like to see.
    This shows that the formatting is ok in the drop-down, but only if I don't use bullets on the original list.
    Thank you!

    Did anyone ever figure this out? I am having the same problem, but in addition to bullet and numbering styles, the dropdown text is inheriting other qualities from the Hotspot format, including font color.
    What can I do to maintain the formatting in the drop down text independently from the text formatting of the hotspot?
    Thanks!
