Strange Intermittent Static Line

This one is a bit hard to describe and I haven't seen anyone else report it...so here goes. I've had my Late 08 MBP for two days now and i've had this problem occur about 3-4 times.
What happens is that a horizontal line "break", or disruption occurs near the bottom third of the screen. But it is more towards the left side and is about five inches in length I'm aware of the issue when scrolling in Safari, and that is not what i'm talking about it. This is more like a very thin line of static that occurs and only appears for a second or so.
I'm worried that I may have a bad graphics card or a problem that is only showing up every so often, but may turn into something a lot worse months down the road. I know this may sound vague, but i'm not sure how else to describe it. Has anyone heard of this sort of thing before???

I just finished swapping my unibody MacBook Pro's hard drive into my old MBP. (Gotta love how OS X just works when you do a HDD swap.) I left my unibody MBP with the Genius Bar so they can replace its logic board. I selfishly hope now that it was just a logic board problem, and not a driver issue with the 9400M integrated graphics. The intermittent, less-than-a-second graphics glitches 1/3 from the bottom center, and toward the upper left corner of the display did not occur when I switched to the 9600M discrete GPU.
I've been using my MBP's 9400M on a regular basis since Sunday night. (I dropped it off at the Apple Store the night before Thanksgiving, and they called to let me know it was ready on Black Friday!) So far, so good. I haven't noticed a recurrence of the video glitches with the 9400M. My only complaint is that whoever replaced the logic board in my MBP left a minor scratch on the plastic hinge below the display, and they didn't insert one of the screws flush with the bottom of the case. On the plus side, I got to see where the RAM lives, and the efficient use of space when I removed the bottom panel to re-seat the screw. The unibody MBP is a nice piece of engineering.

  • Loud Intermittent Static on iPhone

For the last couple of months, my phone has been giving off loud, intermittent static during phone calls.  I do not hear it, but the person on the other line says it is so loud that they have to put down the phone.  It seems to only happen when I am calling to a specific person who is located in another state (I am in Washington State calling California), but it happens whether they are on their cell phone, home phone or work phone.  It does not seem to happen with anyone else, but then again, I am not on the phone as frequently with other people.  The phone calls are business related, so I am very keen to get this issue resolved.
I have an iPhone 5 and am on iOS 7.0.4 (which is the most up-to-date).  I am not very technically minded, but any help would be appreciated.  Has anyone else ever experienced this issue?

Pleeeeeeeeease delete me, let me go.

  • Intermittent static feedback on PMG5

    Hi All
I have a PM G5 DC which has been running fine until I turned it on today - now I am hearing intermittent 'static noise' coming through the speakers on the line out socket on the back of the box. It sounds like radio static - i hear it for 3 seconds, then silence for 3 seconds, then noise for 3 seconds again and so on. It seems only to be connected to this port - I don't hear the noise if my speakers are connected via usb, or if i use headphones on the front panel, but i do hear the noise if i plug my headphones in to the line out on the back. I also hear the noise if the computer audio out is set to usb but the speakers are still connected to the line out.
Seems to happen independently of hard drive working.
    Anyone any ideas?
    TIA
    Simon

  • How to create static line in line bar graph in obiee 11g?

    Hello,
I have requirement where user wants to see a line in bar graph.
Now the line is just static line, we dont have data field available to draw the line in graph.
is there a way to create a static line in chart and show it in Line bar ombo graph??
    Thanks in advance..

e.g. i created the static line '10' in fx and now using this column as line in line bar report , but its not displaying the line at measure of '10' in chart.
Drag the column to measures section of graph (Line - Vertical Axis) to change this static value create an edit box prompt and pass the value to the column using Presentation Variable (as said by Fernando)
    Thanks,

  • Screen Issues with MacBook Pro (Static Lines)

Hey guys.  I aam having problems with my Screen/Display on my Macbook Pro.
Static lines appear aprox 1/3 of the way in from the right side.  The lines run horizontally about 1 inch in length and running vertically all the way down the display. A screen shot shows a normal working display.  Took a pic of the problem:
I cannot run hardware tools.  My computer did not come with a disc and I know they are only a shipping charge but I do not have even $5.  I am a student and this is my only way to do my schoolwork.  The Screen (inner display and outer protective screen) was replaced by Apple in May '12.  The 1 yr warranty ran out in June '12.  When the screen was replaced it started doing this as well, but had not gotten this bad.  There are now 2 where there was only one yesterday.  I am wondering if it may be the cable as moving the display often fixes or produces the problem.   I know the cable is not very expensive and not to difficult to replace.
Here is the info on my Mac:
    Nice Name:
    Machine Model: MacBookPro9,1
Name: MacBook Pro (mid 2012) 15 inch
    Family name: A1286
    Model Number: MD103
    Group1: MacBook
    Group2: Pro
    Generation:
    CPU speed: 2.3GHz
    Screen size: 15.4 inch
    Screen resolution: 1440x900 pixels
    Colour: Aluminium
    Production year: 2012
    Production week: 13  (April)
    Model introduced: 2012
    Memory - flavour: DDR3-S-1600
Memory - number of slots: 2
    Memory - maximum total: 16GB
    Memory - largest module: 8GB
Factory: C0 (Quanta Computer (Susidiary = Tech Com))

It is getting worse in the sense that it is occuring more often and taking longer to resolve.  Moving the laptop lid/display would typically fix the prblem in the past but now it is hit or miss.  Even vibrations will cause the issue to occur or resolve.  We are leaning more towards the issue being a cable and not the display.  Since taking a screenshot produces a pic without issues I would gather that the video card is fuctioning properly.  I welcome any comments on this.

  • Static line at an angle in a chart?

Found out how to insert a static line in a chart thanks to this https://forums.oracle.com/thread/947898
But I need the line to be at an angle. Basically need the line to start at the top left of the graph and end at the bottom right.
Is there a way to make the line angled?
Or is the problem that within the syntax that value="5"? Is there such a thing as startvalue or beginvalue? And then endvalue?
    <Y1ReferenceLine><ReferenceLine index="0" visible="true" lineWidth="2" text="ref line " value="5" displayedInLegend="true" lineColor="#ff11" /></Y1ReferenceLine>

  • Strange stiching white lines in placed images...

    Hi,
I'm having some problems with Illustrator CS2.
When i place a .PSD file (1 layer, photo, transparent background) with 300 dpi / CMYK 8bit into my main page, i get these strange stitching white lines over the image.
Not only that, but after working on my arrangement some more, if i click my placed image, i notice how Illustrator has sliced it into 2 or more parts..
This is annoying, since getting those white stitching lines doesn't really make me safe for print, and also bothers me that Illustrator slices the image into 2 or more parts without asking or confirmation.
Anyone knows how i can fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    John

  • In my new iphone5 two static lines are showing up continuously what is the problem

in my new iphone5 two static lines are showing up continuously what is the problem

The last user troubleshooting step is a restore. Check this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 about restore. Just be advised that a restore will delete content from the phone. If you restore from a backup, then it will put content back on, however if it is necessary for you to restore as a new device, everything will be deleted. Make sure content is synced and backed up.
If that doesn't do it, then make an appointement at the Genius Bar of the Apple store to have the hardware checked. If under warranty and found to be defective, they will replace the device. If no Apple Store close, then contact Apple Care.

  • Intermittent static on external monitor with MacBook Pro

I have a MBP (mid-2009) and added an Acer external monitor last year.  When I plug the monitor in or the computer wakes for sleep I often get this intermittent static; the monitor alternates between displaying correctly and displaying static.  The period between static can change...one time when I plugin the external monitor it can be 20 seconds and the next time I plug it in it might be 2 seconds between static and regular display.
I can't imagine I'm the only one that has this issue.  I've searched endlessly but haven't found anyone else with the same specific problem.  Hopefully there's a solution.
Something that's extra quirky is that I run any number of programs on a daily basis including stock brokerage application(Java based), browsers, programming applications, etc. but none of them triggers this behavior EXCEPT iTunes.  Not sure if that helps but maybe it does.
Any help is greatly appreciated.  I figured I've wasted an hour or more of my life plugging and unplugging the monitor cable trying to get it to run without the static so it was time to ask for help!
Here's a link to a video...I figured this would make it easy to understand the issue.  http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=11al7yv%3E&s=8#.U3bfpFhdVK4

  • Recurring/intermittent "crackly line and disconnec...

Ever since Christmas 2011 I have had an intermittent crackly line with dropping broadband problem. Since then I have had 4 engineers out - that I can remember, there may be more!
Let me first add, the crackling, when it happens, happens even if I unscrew master socket and plug corded phone into internal master socket.
Here is my roll of honour of Openreach guys:
Graham - found a fault several hundred meters away, did something, line clear for a day or so.
Jason - just happened to come when line not crackling, ran some tests, told me all OK, went away.
Harold - brought another guy with him, did a lot of shaking of lines outside, heard the crackling, did something, also replaced inside master socket for brand new one, line clear for about 3 hours.
Jason again (I think) - line was crackling like crazy before he came, he rang me to say he was coming, line cleared and was clear when he got here so again he went away. On his way driving out the village, he rang me to tell me there were other Openreach guys up the road replacing a cable which had a hole in it. He kindly stopped to chat to them, and rang and told me this, otherwise I'd have had no idea this was happening. He said that could have been the problem, I prayed it was. The phone line stayed clear for about a day, then major crackling returned today.
    TODAY 25 January 2012
(PS last night phone rang in middle of night and then stopped. This morning when I did a 1471 to get the number, the last recorded number was over a day ago which is odd)
Line very crackly. Tested corded phone in master socket and still crackly. Used phone to make a call and it cut out on me. Broadband massively flakey. Whenever router looks like it's connected with green internet light on, it can't connect and then dsl and internet light go off.
Rang BT 151 to report fault. Got cut off. Line came back, and after being on phone reporting fault for about 15 minutes line cleared and was as clear as a bell straight after. Internet came straight back. Since then line has been clear as a bell and internet rock steady.
But I'm not holding my breath, this is the way it has been since Christmas. Today I cried on the phone to BT Faults as I'm so fed up with it.
About same time last year I had exactly the same symptoms, intermittent crackly line and flakey internet. Luckily it was fixed by a fantastic engineer who went and did something, called me to say all fixed, we chatted on the phone for a while and suddenly the crackle was back. He then said it was because it needed a 'lift and shift' which he organised and then line was good thereafter. Don't know if this is a red herring but the symptoms were exactly the same, and this fixed it.
Just to add (and this is something I'm going to monitor from now on), I think line crackle clears after I've been on the phone a while.
From doing a bit of internet research today this seems to be a common problem and hard to fix. Please can someone help me? Thanks for taking the time to read.

Thanks for replies. I am now keeping a log of phone/internet behaviour.
To update: after my last call to BT faults 3 days ago to report fault, it obviously hasn't been raised because I've heard nothing since. I know why this is, at the same time I was also in despair that BT have our house name down wrong. To be precise, the billing address is right, but the account address (?) is wrong. Every time BT engineers come out to find me they ring and say 'Can't find your house' and I have to tell them that the address they have is wrong (only the house name). I've tried to get this fixed twice before, and also mentioned it to the faults girl, so she palmed me off to someone else and obviously didn't raise the fault for me.
No matter for now, as the same evening I rang Plusnet my internet provider. They have been FANTASTIC! They can see my connection has been dropping seriously for ages, apparently I've not been continuously connected for more than 4 hours. They are sending me a new router to rule out my old one, they have told me to plug router into internal main socket and they will monitor, if connection keeps dropping they say they can instruct BT on fault which will then be known to be external as router has been in internal main box socket. They were so helpful.
If only BT were as good! I am seriously fed up of the same old lines I keep getting repeated to me when I call the fault line. And the fact that they keep closing the reported fault when I tell them that it's ongoing and intermittent and needs to be kept open until it is sorted.
Anyway, enough rant for now, at least my internet is working at the mo so I can post this! Will probably follow up some of your suggestions re getting to mods - when I have the energy to do it!

Static lines on my iPad on the black bar across top of screen. What causes this and how do you fix that?

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    See if that helps.

I concur there are glitches in iMovie 6. It's very frustrating. I first thought it was a RAM problem, so I added more memory. It's definately made processing faster but that did not stop the glitches.
