Strange page loads on desktop, not on laptop

This page:
http://web.mac.com/magads/iWeb/Site/Stewmac%20Kit%20Instructions/1E1C9EAB-A9C3-4 D43-AEEF-FE145AB64270.html
loads just fine on my desktop (G4, Tiger, 10.4.7).
//But// on my laptop (G3, Powerbook Wall Street, 10.2.8) the whole page from the horizontal divider down gets pushed below the bottom border (where "previous" and "next" live). I've republished, reloaded, emptied caches -- all multiple times, but the result is the same. This is the only page that does it; all the other similar layouts are fust fine.
Can anyone offer help?

James - thanks for checking it out. I would think it's just my laptop, but I was made aware of it by a used in Australia yesterday morning. I fiddled with the page and republished it, certain that would fix it -- but, no.
So, it's notjust my laptop -- and the guy who told me about it is using Windows XP and Explorer 7.

  • WRT54GS - Web page loads slow or not at all

My parents have two wireless laptops accessing their WRT54GS.  Both receive excellent signal strength.  Web pages load at normal speed for the first unit to access the internet on their network.  However, the web pages will take forever or not load at all for the second computer, despite the fact that the signal strength to the second computer remains excellent.  It does not matter which connects first and which is second; the problem still occurs.
I might mention that the computers and the router were purchased on Dec. 23, so everything should be current, with the exception of the 12/28/06 firmware release for the router.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

hi...you can try different wireless settings on the router...
    channel -- 1,9 or 11
    under advanced wireless settings ,
    beacon interval  - 75
    frag threshold    -  2304
    RTS                   -  2304
if this does not make any difference then upgrading the firmware could help you....

  • Firefox for Android slower, on page loading, than desktop version on the same hardware?

I did test Firefox for linux paralel to the Android version on the same tablet, in the exact same time.
    Mobile version: 22.0 - Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:19.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/19.0
    Desktop version: 11.0 - Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux; armv7l; rev:11.0) Geko/20100101 Firefox/11.0
Mobile version starts, indeed, faster (2-3s vs 7-10s) but page loading looks like it's being strangled by something.
Unlike desktop version, which, with it's rendering issues - I'm running it on top of an X11 framebuffer,
the mobile version can take up to 2 minutes to load a webpage like plus.google.com.
The Desktop version, running on the same tablet and taking cpu time along Android, takes less than one minute. I'm convinced it would be 2-3x faster running alone and even faster if the gpu would do the rendering.
On other pages the difference is even more striking...
And it‘s obviousv that it is not a rendering issue but a data transfer bottleneck.
Any idea on closing the gap on page loading times between the two, not involving slowing down the desktop version? :)
My hardware specs: Allview branded ly-f1 tablet, 1GHz Cortex A8, 1Gb DDR3 RAM, 8Gb internal nand flash
Android 4.1.1 and Ubuntu 12.04 lts compiled with hardfloat for armv7.
My internet connection being a 50Mb/s optical routed to a 802.11n 150Mb/s wifi router.
I would love to switch to Ubuntu only but I cant do that yet... Mali400 and cedarX still puzzle me and fellow linux geeks...

  • Page loads but will not display

I have an IP address that allows me to view my cctv cameras. It works fine with Internet Explorer, but when i enter the same address in to my safari browser the page seems to load but will not display anything.
I assume its some thing do with my internet security settings but do not now where to find them to allow this site. Can any one help please.
    Thanks

Try temporarily turning off your firewall via SystemPreferences>Security>Firewall. If the site then works you can turn the firewall back on and specifically allow Safari.

  • Web pages load slowly or not at all.

At least half the web pages I try to access load slowly or not at all, especially those I am accessing for the first time. This problem has been getting worse over the past few months. I ran the Wireless Diagnostics test, and it said there didn't seem to be a problem.     I am using a Belkin G Wireless Router, and only use the MacBook Air at home.  The PHY Mode is 802.11g.  What should I do?

Try going to Speedtest.net (if you can ) and see what your speeds are. If they seem fine then try turing off or resetting your router. If that doesn't work it might be something with the Wi-Fi antena within the MacBook Air. Try connecting it via Ethernet.

Such prefs shouldn't be in user.js as they will cause problems as you've noticed.
Did you copy other prefs from prefs.js to user.js?
You should be cautious with doing that and only place prefs in user.js that are either changed via the user interface in Tools > Options or prefs that can't be set via the user interface, but never prefs that are set automatically like the first run prefs for extensions. Even prefs set by extensions can cause problems if an extension updates.

  • Web pages loading slowly or not at all in all browsers

I don't know why I'm having this problem.... for the last few weeks now.    95% of the time, web pages (for me.... particularly in Ancestry.com and Ebay) load very slowly, or don't load at all.  The other 5% of the time, it appears to work normally.  I don't seem to have a problem with most other web pages.   The problem occurs in all three of my browsers - Safari, Chrome and Firefox.    I have dumped all my history and cookies.  I have scanned my computer for malware/spyware with MacScan (which I just installed tonight).   I am having the same problem on both my laptop (macbook pro) and my iMac.   Again.... this problem started just a few weeks ago.   I have tried everything I know to fix the problem, but haven't found a solution yet.  It is very frustrating.  Why would I only be having an issue with browsing on Ancestry and Ebay....and nowhere else?   HELP!!

I'm having the same issue, except its not just web pages. It's apps, like facebook and getting emails. It's only a problem when I'm on my home wifi. If I shut the wifi off and use mobile data, everythings much faster.
I contacted Samsung and have a ticket open with them, but there's nothing else they can do for me. I've tried running in safe mode, and resetting to factory settings, but no luck. My next step is to contact Verizon, but I wanted to check here first. Funny thing is I did a google search, and others are complaining of the same issue. I'll update if I ever get it fixed!

  • Safari 6.0.1 page loading slow or not at all

    Friends,
I have scoured the message boards of many self help communities and cannot find a great deal to resolve my question and that of many others -  Safari taking ages to load a page or not at all - having to hit reload several times to get the page to load. I have tried Firefox and Chrome with no problems on the same web pages. This has only started in the last week or so. I am on OS 10.8.2. I have treid the following solutions which do not work for me:
    Resetting Safari
Manually and with software dumping of Safari and Java caches
    Disabling all Extensions
    Removing all Website Data
Removing Safari's folder to create a complete new one in ~Library
    Changing DNS
    Turning off Prefetch DNS
    Checkiing for virii
    Turning off virus software
    Starting up in Safe Mode
    Repairing Permissions
    Repairing Prefs
Starting up in a Test Guest account
    Unsyncing Safari from iCloud
Making sure of my router having the latest firmware
All to no avail. Anything I am missing here in an attempt to solve this issue?
Thanks for reading this and cheers for now,
    sam

Select  ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network. If the Network preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Hardware tab. Select  Configure: Manually and MTU: Custom. Enter an MTU value of 1280. Click OK and then Apply. Test.
You must apply the change before it takes effect.
If the issue is resolved, experiment with higher MTU values until you find the highest one that works. The higher the MTU, the better the network interface will perform.
If changing the MTU has no effect, restore the Configure setting to Automatically.

  • Web pages load slowly or not at all, but internet connection is fine. Can anyone recommend a fix?

Please help!  I have a long standing problem with my MacBook Pro, whereby I experience the following symptoms:
    - Webpages sometimes load very slowly.  The URL is displayed in the address field, but the progress bar appears stuck.  Only very slowly does the web page then load.
    - Webpages sometimes do not load at all.
    - Webpages sometimes load incomplete.  Eg. Only part of the website appears, for example the top bar; or certain images fail to load.
    However...
    - My internet connection is fine. Mobile devices / iPad / work PC all work perfectly well on the same wifi. The problem is isolated to my MacBook Pro
    - Clearing the cache, resetting the browser etc do not eliminate or reduce the problem
    - Changing to OpenDNS does not fix the problem
    - The problem is not specific to Safari.  I experience the same on Chrome, Firefox etc.
    - Switching it off and on again does not work either (in case anyone suggests it!)
I'm running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and my MacBook Pro is from early 2011.
    Suggestions welcome!

  • Why is my internet fine but web pages load slowly or not at all?

Hello. I'm going to try and keep this as simple as possible. Last night I went to use my imac and for some reason every wed page I would try and go to either wouldn't open, would time out, or would load so slowly as to be almost no use at all. I reset my modem (I use a wired, ethernet connection) and everything was fine with the internet connection (or so it seemed) because I checked to see if I was able to torrent for instance and that worked just fine. The problem seemes to be based solely around browsing the internet (using both safari and chrome). I'm not sure what's going on and would appriciate any help. Thanks.

Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.

  • Strange page load problem

Here is one for you. Recently a page I have been visiting often completely loads, then a moment later goes blank. Viewing the source code looks normal. I have deleted numerous files: Safari.plist, internetconfig.plist, cookies.plist, deleted the cache and icons. I just downloaded and reinstalled Safari and the problem still persists!
The really strange thing is I can view any other page on the site normally. The problem page works in Firefox, Opera and IE5 (sort of). I have no problem with any other site or pages.
    FYI, the page is http://www.campusbooks.com
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    John
    OSX 10.3.8
    Safari 1.2

I would just really like to know why this problem exists
Sorry, I wish I could give you an answer there but I can't.
Maybe it's caused by bad cache files (have you tried erasing the cache/resetting Safari?) or some enhancer application you're using (Saft, PithHelment for example).
One quick test you can do to help narrow down things is browse with Safari in another user account. This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide. If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> [+] to create a test one (and [-] to remove it if needed)

  • Google page loads but does not work, only works in Private Browsing

Google page will not search anymore unless I trick it into working for me !!
If I enter search term it simply won't budge, but sometimes if I click on images then back to regular it will pop up the results. That doesn't always work though.
Another way it works perfectly is in private browsing mode.
Google is refusing to work with Firefox and I have updated Firefox twice now.
    Other sites work fine.
I also have complaint google forced me into a google account when I made a youtube account and this problem may be associated as it happened same week. Also google signs me into google whenever i sign into youtube, that really pisses me off as i had no idea it was doing that until I noticed I was "signed in" on a google page I opened. Anyone could have accessed my google/youtube acct. and password while I was unaware of this from that computer. Now I open google and sign out there after i sign in to youtube !!! What a piece of work google is for doing this crap.

  • Getting xml dataprovider to reload information on page load... not compilation.

    Hey everyone,
I've got an app that grabs information from a XML file on my server.  After the user has used the app, they'll have the option to save their input.  I've got the application to edit the xml file and store the users' information.  After saving the information, however, the XML datasource doesn't update the combobox that allows users to see passed saved saves.  Here's how it's being done now:
This is the code to grab the XML file while I compile:
    <mx:XML id="applicantsXML" xmlns="" source="http://www.hr.fsu.edu/SubSites/HRAPPS/salaryconsideration/applicants.xml"/>
Here's the combobox being populated with the XML information:
    <mx:ComboBox id="applicant_combobox" y="35" x="135" dataProvider="{applicantsXML.app.appid}"></mx:ComboBox>
Is there any way to get the XML to repopulate using applicationComplete or something like that?
    Thanks a bunch,
    Brds

By "Store the users' information" i mean that the application uses sliders, checkboxes, and textboxes.  After clicking the save button, these items will be saved into my DB and also put into an XML file.  I've gotten all that part working... the problem is updating the XML as the dataprovider.
When you say "You can create a new dataprovider and reload the new XML file.  Then point the combox to the new data provider" I'm not sure exactly what you're saying.  Can you explain a little please?
