StreamCorruptedException - what is causing it?
I am developing a networked multiplayer game in Java, but I am having problems when it comes to sending data around the network. The game will run fine for a seemingly random amount of time (usually between about 10 seconds and 2 minutes) before a StreamCorruptedException occurs in each of the clients. 90% of the time the message says "invalid type code: 00" but sometimes I get "invalid handle value" or various others.
I have searched for ages for more information on this, but there isn't much help available. I have tried a couple of things suggested in other threads, to no avail.
The code that listens for connections from clients:
while(numConnections < MAX_CONNECTIONS) {
socket = serverSocket.accept();
numConnections++;
System.out.println("Connection from " +socket.getInetAddress());
ServerThread thread = new ServerThread(socket);+
thread.start();
}The ServerThread class handles each connection and contains the following method which is used to send objects to all connected clients:+
public static void sendToClients(Object o) {
try {
for(int i = 0; i < connections.size(); i++) {
ServerThread thread = connections.elementAt(i);
thread.out.writeObject(o);
thread.out.flush();
catch(IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}The Client class reads the objects sent by the server:
try {
Object o;
while(true) {
o = inputStream.readObject();
}The exception occurs in the o = inputStream.readObject() line
Sorry about the bad formatting... first post and for some reason the input box jumps all over the place when I'm typing so I can't see what's being written!

No, I haven't seen AC yet... only one input and output stream is created per socket and used for the life of that socket. The most common code I get is 00, but I have also seen 23 and 79. I tried searching for a list of what the codes mean, but can't find much info about the causes of this exception at all really. I know it gets thrown when "Control information in the stream is inconsistent" according to the API, but that doesn't really help much.
Also, after reading about this for hours, I changed writeObject to writeUnshared (just a shot in the dark really), which for some reason seems to have significantly increased the amount of time for which the application will run before the exception occurs.

It is an intermittent, but a regular-enough-to-be-really-annoying occurrence........when someone sends an e-mail, to which is attached a photo of some kind, or a picture document, it will replicate in my inbox, sometimes 100 or more copies at a time. I delete all of them, empty the trash, and will also go to the Yahoo web version of my e-mail and delete the offending e-mail from there and empty the trash. Sometimes worked. Now that process isn't working, and this particular e-mail just filled up my inbox with over 100 copies of itself, even after the other steps were taken. Can't get any incoming mail.
This log jam of replicated e-mails prevents incoming and new mail from reaching the inbox.
Needless to say, am not too happy about it. What is causing it, and how do I fix it, other than to go to Outlook for my e-mail client....? :0) This, coupled with the constant "not responding" each time I try to send an e-mail, delete items from the "sent" or inbox folders, is really driving me nuts. We have a crappy internet connection, and that is likely part of it, but the "not responding" is not a new thing with Thunderbird, either.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. I dislike the web version of Yahoo, and don't want to have to switch to that, as it just doesn't meet e-mail needs. Would like to get Thunderbird fixed.I have not seen your error in either my IE or my chrome. I do note that you are using a "strict" Document Type Declaration.
You might try a transitional DTD, which should be more forgiving than the strict:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
Other than that, I don't see anything particular (because I don't see the error, either) that would cause the menu to drop vertically instead of horizontally.

I have a MacBook Pro. When surfing the web it will eventually slow to a crawl. When this occurs, there will be a small multi-colored wheel spinning until my latest command is handled. What is causing this and is there a way that I can modify or prevent this from happening? Is there a setting that will prevent this?
When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. -

Trash will not delete from trash folder! What can cause this effect?
u can actually force it to delete, oviously i assume you dont have the application or data etc open neware else?
try restarting your computer, go into finder close all your open applications etc, servers, **** even clear your data in your web browser, do a disk utility check and verify your drives and repair em if nessicary.
as chamar suggested look at http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/trash.html
i had the same problem before but with a good 5-10 minutes of googling i was able to solve it..

one of usb port in my macbook pro havent work after i ve updated latest security update for osx 10.7.5, how do i know what is cause that usb port is good or bad
On a Mac running v10.7.2, the only way to reinstall Safari is to reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery.
Safari 5.1.1 is for Snow Leopard. It will not run on a Mac with v10.7 installed. -
I can't click on the icons at the top of a site. What's causing this?
I have firefox and it's having a strange problem today. When I'm on facebook, I can't click on the icons at the top. I can't click the message, friend request, notifications, home, profile icons and can't click the one that allows you to sign out. So i can't even sign out. What I mean by can't click is when I put the cursor over those icons, it doesn't change into the finger. When I left click it anyway, nothing happens. This doesn't happen in internet explorer, but I want to keep using firefox. What's causing this? I also noticed that this doesn't just happen on facebook. I've uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. I restarted the PC. It didn't help.
The Yahoo! Toolbar extension has been reported to cause this issue.

I have two graphics workers on osx 8. They are both complaining that their files are changing label colors on it own. Any idea what could cause this?
and there were and have been problems with any two nvidia cards which was the main part of my question.
To provie details try pasting all but serial number from system profile. Sorry but Mac Pro tells me nothing, not model, year, or what graphic card it came with or updated with. -
I am using My iPad with Apple TV, Airplay and projector in my classroom. The projector screens blanks out and back on several times during a presentation. It seems like a problem with connection but I'm not sure as it comes back on after a few seconds. Any idea of what is causing this and how it can fixed?
Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

Firefox version 5.0 has a separate Twitter tab built into this web browser. However, today I have been having problems with launching the Firefox browser. An error message appears, after attempting to launch the browser, which states that the Firefox browser is already running, and that the process needs to be closed or that the computer needs to be restarted. After restarting my computer and launching the Firefox browser, I noticed that the built-in Twitter tab ( near the upper left-hand corner of the browser ) was missing. What is causing these problems?
I'm pretty sure that Firefox version 5.0 has a built-in Twitter tab. Whatever the case may be, I downloaded Firefox version 5.0.1 this morning. I learned that if you right-click on a tab, that a menu box will appear on the screen. One of the options in that menu box is "Pin as App Tab." If I go to the http://twitter.com web site, and then right-click on the corresponding Twitter tab, and then select "Pin as App Tab," then a small Twitter tab will appear to the right of the orange-and-white "Firefox" tab ( in the upper left-hand corner of the Firefox web browser screen ). Then I can click on that Twitter tab and go directly to the http://twitter.com web site. However, when I exit the Firefox version 5.0.1 web browser, and then immediately re-launch it, the separate Twitter tab is gone. Is there any way, within Firefox version 5.0.1, that I can make the separate Twitter tab permanent after selecting "Pin as App Tab"? Thank you for your assistance regarding this matter.

What is causing my Mac to be so slow?
Ok so I have a 2011 Mac Mini, upgraded to 8gb of RAM running Mavericks. Over the past few months, it has been performing poorly during certain tasks, for example:
-When watching videos, both on and offline, picture will randomly freeze for a couple of seconds, while audio continues
-Every-day tasks such as right clicking to open the mini menu that appears or opening a folder in Finder (rainbow wheel appears)
-Loading a webpage - nothing will happen for a few seconds, then it connects and everything loads very quickly
So I backed up using Time Machine, and wiped the harddrive, reinstalled via USB installation (without restoring backup), and everything was super quick again. So I restored just my applications and files (ie. not my settings) in the hope my mac would maintain its new found speed.
It didn't.
In fact, it has regained exactly the same issues as last time. So my question is, what can I do to find out what is causing this slow down?
Thanks,
MaxHi Linc,
Many thanks for your continued support, I am afraid the Mac is still as it was even after the OS X Yosemite Public Release Install. Here are the results for the new test I carried out as per your detailed instructions:

What is causing my Mac to crash during the sleep mode?
Hello!
I would to have your help on this situation that i am having for a month or so... Ok... it started about a month ago, I turned it on and all of the sudden, it shut down, then rebooted on its own... (actually it rebooted like 3 or 4 times before running the system) I thought that it was odd. I had my Tech to look over and see what was causing to crash and all... he could not find anything then we all decided to leave it running all time... so we did. a week or two later, it just crashed when i woke the sleep mode and it went on the usual route as crashed and rebooted two or three times before going back to normal.
sound familiar to you guys? after that happened, we turned off the sleep mode and so far, it is doing good... decided not to update the system's Security software because it may have something to cause the mac to crash down...
the mac is 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 8 Gb 667 MHZ DDR2 FB-DIMM, running on 10.6.8
appreciate your help on this.One more thing.... it makes weird sounds as well... very high pitch sounds that you hear in movies where UFO flying by while it is doing the rebooting...

For some reason the Apple ID window in iTunes and App Store now seems to suddenly have a character number constraint which prevents me using my 29 character Apple ID. As a result I am unable to enter the final few characters of my Apple ID which I have had for many years. Does anyone know what has caused this?
You need to ask Apple for assistance with getting back into your old ID. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to resolve this issue through the Account Security team, fill out and submit this form.

I have a Macbook Pro purchased brand new. I take high quality pictures for customers, these display perfect on my laptop but appear CORRUPT on a USB stick. What is causing this? I can't seem to fix this issue. PLEASE HELP!!
I really need this issue resolved it is driving me insane!!! How can the images appear perfectly fine on my laptop then when transferring over to a USB stick they just corrupt!?Check out this site:
http://osxdaily.com/2012/04/22/format-drive-mac-pc-compatible/
That will show you how to format a USB stick for use on both PC and Mac.
If the problem continues take it to an Apple store and have them check it out.
>Also what s exFAT?<
From:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExFAT
"exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table) is a Microsoft file system optimized for flash drives.[3] It is proprietary and patented."
That first site explains it at length. -
Problem description:
I have ordered a new iMac but my current one seems to be running really slowly. I believe it to be a memory related problem but can’t seem to identify what is causing it. Your help is greatly appreciated.

The high number of Page Outs and killed processes show very high memory pressure.
Try adding memory, but be sure it is high quality, Mac certified memory such as that from OWC, http://www.macsales.com or Crucial, http://www.crucial.com -
I have tried reinstalling ITunes and resetting my IPod Touch. The computer recognizes the IPod Touch as a connected device, but ITunes doesn't. However, ITunes will recognize other devices that I plug in with the same usb cord. ITunes diagonistics only says that no device is plugged in whenever the IPod Touch is plugged in. What can cause this combination of problems, and how could I get around it?
If you have iTunes 11 on the computer and are using the same cable that works with the iPhone then:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Try on another computer
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware preoblem
