Streaming (web address) - .MOV

Hi,
I'm currently watching some TV channels via web address' but would like to have these as icons (.MOV file) so I can open them in QT directly by double clicking them. This way I can also watch them in Front Row which would be great.
So, how do I get an address (http://) playable in QT as an icon (.MOV)?
Any pointers would be great

I see what you mean. So I checked with a quick test. Never done before, so it's new for me too.
Streaming by broadcasters are usually done in WMV.
They embed an asf file in a webpage with the <embed> code.
Find the links and save it. Safari usually saves them as .wmv files.
Here's one to download for demo purposes.

Unzip it and open the file in a PLAINTEXT editor. It's text.
You'll see the URL to the movie.
Note: I noticed that after opening the player.wmv with a HTML Editor just to look at the code, it didn't work anymore in Front Row.
The sample above does work. I hope. The player.wmv file does not work in QT player.
Place the player.wmv file in the movies folder and open up Frontrow. Navigate to the file in the Movies folder and select it.
You will see this recorded broadcast from Dutch TV.

Click on *Bekijk uitzending* to compare.
(I don't know if the broadcast is visible outside the country.)
Now you have to find your own URL and replace the one in the player.wmv file. Or download their asf file.
See if that works.

Probably your Mac cannot understand the Windows html format, please try the following to see if it helps:
In your PC, export the bookmarks in html as you did in your post. After you have saved it, change the name of the file to “bookmarks.html” and save it again.
In your Mac, import the saved file as you posted.

How do I display the web address within Adobe PDF Reader 10 & IE 9 64-bit?

Until a week ago, I was using IE 9 32-bit version together with Adobe PDF Reader 10. When I would try to open a PDF file from within the browser, it would and the Web Address would continue to display at the top of the window while browing the PDF document. I could then continue using IE 9 and move on to other pages and etc...
Now, I have swtiched to using the IE 9 64-bit version. What happens now is that when I enter an address in the web browser and it's a direct link to a PDF file example: https://www.technicalindicatorindex.com/newsletter/bpdf/TII_Newsletter_1686a_10.11.11_7055 475115.pdf ), it opens up with no problems, but I no longer see the IE 9 Web Address shown anywhere. So in essence, that page becomes a Adobe PDF program window and I loose my IE 9 access. I guess the PDF files are no longer displayed within the browser (althought I have it check ON).
Am I missing something?

I want to know how to get the web addresses to go away that appear in the bottom left corner of the browser every time my mouse goes over a link

Any time that my mouse goes over a link on a web page a little box in the bottom left corner of the browser pops up showing the web address for that link and it is really annoying, especially when i am on facebook because there are so many links on the home page i cant move my mouse anywhere without that box popping up and blocking part of my conversations. I was wondering if there was any way to turn this off. I've checked through the options and to my knowledge there is no way to turn it off. Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem or knew if there was a way to get that box to go away.

Another option would be to use the following extension to push those messages into the status bar. It could be a convenient way to have your messages visible when you want them, but with less distraction.

How do I find the web address for an encapsulated steam?

I recently saw a tip somewhere on how to do this, but I can't remember where. Basically you did something to find the actual web address of a stream and then you could paste this address in your regular address bar. Then you could use the activity window and save the stream to disk.
Anyone know how to do this?

I remember reading that tip too, but I cannot find it after a quick search. Was it something to do with searching for the actual URL in the source code for the page (View>View Source)? I'll post back if I come up with the post. I'd like to be able to do this too.

Changing a part of a web address in all the topics in a project

Hi,
I have a situation here. I have multiple WebHelp projects which in turn have 100s of topics. Now each of this help topic has a hyperlinked text which is linked to a Web address for example http://ablnxtestvm89:8080/ABCD/ABRoot/XY3/IJ2/<different files>.htm. Each link will be pointing to a required htm file in the required folder. As you will see the ABCD folder contains all my required external files. Now what if I move this ABCD folder to a different server i.e. ablnxtestvm89:8080 changes. Is there a way to replace the old server name with a new server name in one place and wherever this server name appears in the hyperlink in any topic, it changes automatically everywhere?
By the way, I am using Robohelp 6 and am generating WebHelp. I am also planning to move on to Robohelp 10. So would appreciate if I can get a solution for both these versions.

You would need to use a third party Find and Replace tool such as Text Crawler. That would work at code level so some care is needed.
Create a zipped backup of your project first.

I ugraded to firefox 5 - and I deleted a few programs - I must have deleted the navagation tool bar. It shows up blank i.e. no place to type in a web address.

i was deleting a few programs in an effort to delete something that was attached to firefox - and extension.
I must have deleted the part of the navigation tool bar that show a blank space for one to type in a web address or copy and paste a web address.
When I right click at the top of the page I get the navagation tool bar - a space comes and goes with the clicking unclickin of that tool bar.
I have looked all over for that but can't find it.

oops!
first, open up what you have left of the toolbar.
now, right click on it and choose 'customize'. You should see something called 'location' in the box that comes up. Click on it and drag it to where you want it on that tool bar. You can also click and drag around other items on that toolbar to replace them, or move them as needed. :)

Streaming a quicktime movie

I have a 2min demo that I would like to post on my website for people to view. I have the size at 300x280 but i'm not sure as to the other setting to set so that it will download and play pretty quick over a cable or dsl modem
Sample/data rate.
FPS.
Audio compression.(I used mpeg4)
I save it as a mov. file
I was told I need it to be around 5-6 megs in size
any help would be appreciated

In order to stream a quicktime file you you will need something like a darwin streaming server, quicktime streaming server (OSX) or helix streaming server.
Hinting a movie adds the additional data required to stream quicktime files but ultimately it is your server which will stream so you will need to know if it supports something like the above. Simply putting a hinted file on to a server will not do.
To stream a quicktime movie you may need to download a programme called make ref movie. Your web server links to this file and then it gets redirected to the streaming server. The ref file contains a link which will start rtsp. If you contact your ISP ask them if they support rtsp streaming.

Template for Web Reference Movie

I had been using QuickTime Pro to produce Web Reference Movies and associated files. They seemed to work but thought they were having problems with the campus filewall under wifi but that might not be a problem after all.
I finally worked out that Compresor 4 expects to output .mov files when creating web reference movies. Compressor 3 had a template for web reference movies but its not provided with Compressor 4. I will play with the settings (comparing with QTPro files) but thought I'd ask if others have any suggestions/recommendations for output stream settings.

BT Web address help screws up local name resolutio...

I discovered that since the move to BT Infinity, my nightly NAS backup has been failing.
It's an rsync job backing up from one qnap NAS to another. The destination NAS is named in the rynsc job setup. Ater much faffing I found that the name was resolving completely elsewhere. After much more faffing I located BT web address help sending back the "duff" IP address.
Am I right in thinking that if the DNS sent back a domain unkown message, then the NAS would have tried (and succeeded) to resolve the name locally.
Can anyone who actually knows about networking confirm this? It doesn't seem terribly useful for BT web address help to do this. I've opted out and I think I have got my local name resolution working again. Tonight's backup will tell.

Web address help will upset quite a few things, so its best to stay opted out.

In version 3.6 I can not open a website link from original page, I keep getting a new window that is blank and asking me to put in a web address. What has changed with the new version?

When on a page if I click on a web link I get a new window that is blank and asks me enter a web address. This started happening with the new 3.6 version. It seems to have something to do with what I choose for the location in my privacy settings as the window changes with each setting but I still cannot get to the new site. Any ideas? I have no problem with this in IE and I have to keep opening IE when I encounter the problem on Firefox which is annoying.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

Can not open a web address in word

when I email a document in word 2011 to a group with an hyperlink/ web address. PC users can open it but MAC users cannot why???

What is the difference between https: and http: at the beginning of the web address? Does this effect security when looking onto bank accounts?

New to foxfire, and not very computer savvy. When enter search for bank account noticed the the web address came up with a http: rather than an https: as it normally does when I search from safari on MAC, or even at my PC at work. Not sure what the difference is but if it is a security thing than foxfire is no good for my use.

In Firefox 4 and later you no longer have the Status bar that showed the padlock in previous Firefox versions.<br />

So you might still be connected to the wrong server if you make a typo in the URL and someone has claimed that mistyped URL.<br />

How do I set the enter button on my keyboard to go to websites after I have entered the web address

After I type in the web address and hit enter it doesnt go to the site. I have to manually use the mouse and click the button to proceed to the web site. On all of my old versions i would type the web address and click enter and it would take me to the site.

I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit.
