Basically 3 questions
1.I have a mini dual core 1.66 GHZ 60 gb hard drive 1 gb ram. Hard drive is almost full. Therefore I can get OWC to upgrade to a 500 GB 7200rpm drive and upgrade the ram to 2GB for about $300.00. Now a new mini with approx. same configuration
would be $ 799.00. Would this be worth it??
2.Secondly I want to add a second monitor if I get this upgraded, will it support an additional monitor. I now have an acer 24" and would duplicate this.
3. I an running adobe cs version 8, corel painter X, wacom tablet, canon pixma pro 9000 printer, and I also am concerned about the compatability issues I have been reading about with snow leopard?
I just wanted to know if my mini would be the best choice. BTW it works well as it is now set up, but no space to add additional software. I also have a Gtech 320 gb external drive hooked up Thanks for your sugestions

It wouldn't be worth it to me. You can get an internal 500MB hard drive for less than $60.00. A 2GB memory kit for the mini is also under $60.00. While it's a bit tricky to open the case to install, it's by no means all that hard and you can then upgrade the memory and drive yourself.
If you don't want to do the work yourself, 1.66Ghz Mac minis have been selling on eBay for upwards of $300.00. Add that to the $300.00 you'd spend on upgrading your current unit and you're getting pretty close to the cost of a new unit, and really close if refurbished units reappear in the Apple Store (as they quite probably will after Christmas). The current Mac mini models would run rings around your present unit.

Only with a rather pricey adapter from Matrox (the DualHead2Go, $140.00 and up depending on whether you get VGA or DVI). Add this cost to the cost of upgrade and I don't think it worth it, not when after selling your current unit you'd be so close to the price of a new Mac mini with better performance and a new warranty.

I am stressed out...help me with my ipod please

My Ipod is not working at all and I am STRESSING out. When I plugged it into Itunes, it told me that I needed to restore my ipod to the factory settings. When I try to restore my ipod it tells me that there is a Dsik Write error...I have tried the other tips left on this forum, but they did not work. If someone has anything for me to try It would be greatly appreciated, or if my ipod is hooped and needs to fixed or something please let me know. THANK YOU SO MUCH

CONFUSED!!! STRESSED OUT!!! - ok..I'm calm now...

I received the upgrade OSX disc and did the upgrade. It appeared to go smooth but I got the login password issue and I can't seem to fix it. Does anyone know if with this disc I can do a total clean install? I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Thanks.

If you call Apple, they can guide you through the password issue, which is quite common. I have no idea what causes it, though.
Some have posted that the Upgrade disk requires Tiger. I don't know but if it does, you will have to reinstall Tiger and then upgrade again to Leopard.
I trust that you have created a bootable clone of your Tiger OS. You can use that instead of a Tiger CD to reinstall Tiger on your internal drive.

Well lads hows it goin.
Listen im getting an error trying to connect to the database

Want update so bad. Stressed out :( Please help!

Hey guys. So I got this iPod 4G in the mid of summer, and my uncle helped me set it up. He also set up a thing called iCloud. Well a couple weeks ago, I got a notification saying that my iPod was able to get the iOS 6 update, but I needed at least 2.4GB for it to update. Can't get ahold of uncle, nd I've deleted all my apps and turned off the iCloud, for it said it took up 5.0GB. My iPod again is a 4G with an 8G and is NOT jail broken and im trying to get the iOS 6 update My stepbrother who has the same iPod got the update just fine and so did a friend. Does anyone know what's going on or how I can get the update?

As the message stated, to update to iOS via wif you need 2.4 GB available. I
When you went to iCloud you just turned it off, it does not free up any storage on your iPod.
You need to delete more media.
Also try:
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
To help free up staored of items you deleted.

Spry assets folder needed! but not using any spry widgets, help totally stressed out?

l keep trying to set up a new site on CS 5.5 only to keep being told l need a spry assets folder, l have created my own folder named assets folder within my site folder,l have done a seperate folder ,l have looked through all files cannot find any other folders named this. l have downloaded sample files from Adobe & it still hasn't worked. What an earth can l do l'm sure its something silly as you probably guessed l'm a bit of a novice but this is driving me crazy & why do l need a spry assets folder when l'm not using any spry widgits. Any advice or solutions would be great.

Whenever I set up a new site, I use a "default" setup I learned from Lynda.com.
First a folder with the site name.
Inside that a folder named "www"
Inside that five folders named:
"css" <-for stylesheets other than SpryAsset css
"files" <- for anything that that doesn't go elsewhere
"images" <-for all site images other than SpryAsset images
"scripts" <-for javascript files other than SpryAsset scripts
"SpryAssets" <-Note the capitalization and that it's all one word. DW is VERY picky about this. This folder holds Spry CSS, Spry javascripts and Spry images
In your root folder create a folder and name it SpryAssets and DW will acknowledge it as your Spry folder.
Some people prefer to use "styles" instead of "css". This isn't a big deal.
Some people prefer to use "js" instead of "scripts" but if you embed a flash object, DW will create a "scripts" folder and suddenly you have two folders for javascripts, so I prefer to just have the one named "scripts".

So is the Adobe Cloud just a backup system? I understood it as for 9.99 a month, that I got PS and LR too. I paid the fee and now it keeps downloading the creative cloud installer but won't let me install PS. Please help, I have tons of work to do. Thank you in advance.

Close all Adobe applications, Quit Creative Cloud desktop application.
1) Right click on Finder icon and select "Go-To" Folder option.
2) You will get a text box, type-in below command and then hit 'Return' key.( Do not miss ~ symbol)

3)Then navigate to Application Support>Adobe>OOBE. Open OOBE folder and trash opm.db file.
Once you had trashed Opm.db file , launch Creartive Cloud desktop app and Sign in with your Adobe ID .

Stress out Java Compiler API

any1 know how to display the error message when the compilation is not done??
the compiltion process is ok, but, if the compilation isnt done, there will be no error messages..

getTask() takes a DiagnisticListener argument.

Am I Stressing Out My TC?

I have a 1 TB Time Capsule in which I am using for basic backup purposes as well as a media server.
I've created an iTunes folder on the TC, created an Alias & dropped it in the Music folder, Set iTunes to drop & organize content on my TC iTunes folder.
The real beef starts with the fact that I have 3 Apple TVs grabbing content from my TC at the same time. So I've basically created a total bandwidth clusterf**k. TC has been churning for 3 days trying to load all of the content to my ATVs. A couple of times it has just gone down & I've had to reboot TC.
Am I overloading this little bugger or should it be able to handle what I'm trying to accomplish?
Am I having performance issues due to all of the depleted bandwidth, should I run a USB from my Mac to TC to cut down or should I just scrap the idea & fork over the cash for yet another HD to store my iTunes content.

The master sequence settings don't match the footage you are dropping into it. Every time you have to render a clip when you drop it into a sequence, that means something is not matching up. You need to make the master sequence settings match that of your smaller sequences.

Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.
However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.
Once you do this, you’ll need to create a new sequence. This is because the sequence that is already in your new project is setup for the typical default setting of DV/NTSC, or for the settings of your last project, which might not match what you are currently working with. So delete SEQUENCE 1 and create a new sequence:
This new sequence will contain the settings you chose in the Easy Setup menu, and should match the format you captured.

Preview is locking me out of my own PDFs, saying I don't have permission to view them even though I do

I've only noticed this since the software update (10.7.1), but I've got a big problem with preview at the moment. I'm trying to open some PDFs (journal articles) saved on my MacBook Pro, which I've previously had no trouble opening, but all I get is an error message saying:
"The file couldn’t be opened because you don’t have permission to view it. To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info."
I then go to get info for the file, and see that I DO have read and write permission for the file. But it still won't let me open it.
I'm trying to write my Masters dissertation (due in in less than 2 weeks) and it is ESSENTIAL that I'm able to view these files to complete it. Needless to say this is making me very stressed out and frustrated! I'm almost certain they all worked before the 10.7.1 update, but can't be 100% sure.
Any guidance on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks for trying to help but this is a different issue - see my post for details. I'm pretty sure sandboxing is the cause: you can only access files via bookmarks etc if you have already explicitly opened them.

DVD drive not recognized, then all out crash. HELP!

I was watching a DVD, and then I got an email notification which caused the DVD player to freak out and freeze. I restarted the computer to find out that the DVD drive was no longer recognized. Restarted a couple more times...no luck. Now's I've got a DVD stuck in there. So I open up the computer to make sure all the wires are connected. I push the power button AND NOTHINGG! The little power light goes on for about 5 seconds, then turns off. All I hear is a small 'click'. I tried a couple methods to fix it, and only succeeded in getting the DVD drive to spin, but no power in the computer itself. And now it's back to light/'click'/nothing. Am I beyond help here? Do I need a new computer? I'm so stressed out!
Oh and if it comes down to needing a new mac, what would everyone suggest I get besides a mini. I am thinking of a macbook pro, but the price is way high for my funds right now. I also like the imac, but my concern on that is whether or not you can upgrade it after the fact.

I took my mac in to the store to find out the logic board crashed on me. Way too expensive to fix since it's about the same cost as the mini itself. I'm just going to buy a new macbook. (I realize I'm spending more than it would to get a new logicbaord, but I want a new laptop!)

Black out display BACK ON

Hey everyone, my wife's iBook has had the lost display for two weeks now. My wife described the screen as looking like it shorted out and has been black ever since. We were stressed out because my iBook's harddrive is full, and we were moving all of our pictures and music to her iBook when this happened. I figured it was the dreaded logic board/display thing, so I was looking at the MB and MBP (I'm going to get one anyway soon). I thought I'd search the forums a little more in case there was anything I could do, and was just ready to reset the PMU (or at least I was trying to figure out how to) because the computer also hasn't been sleeping correctly since the display went out so I thought maybe it was something else.
I was going to link the computers via the ethernet to save as much music and pictures on flash drives as possible. We had been able to do this for the last two weeks, but today, my computer wouldn't network with hers, so I did a hard reset once (had also tried this before and even though computer restarted, screen stayed black), and the hard drive sounded like it was skipping (didn't sound like it normally does when going through restarting process). So I did another hard reset during this noise, and the computer rebooted again with the chime and THE SCREEN CAME BACK ON!! WEIRD!!! Has anything like this happened to any of you????

It sounds like you may be having logic board problems. You may know that enough dual USB G3 iBooks suffered from this problem that Apple began the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program in January of 2004. Check out the FAQ page and if the symptoms look familiar, give Apple a call. If your iBook qualifies, it's a free fix. (It's not unusual for an iBook suffering from this specific logic board problem to restart normally after a period of rest.)
If you are past the three-year time limit, try calling and asking for Customer Relations (NOT Customer Service--they can't help you) and ask them to please make an exception to the three-year limit in your case.
In order to back up files, you may want to try using FireWire Target Disk Mode to back up her files if your other computer is a Mac with FireWire capability.

Newb here, need help! just check out what i have, make reccomendations please!!

Windows xp 32-bit,
4 gigs ram,
dual sli 7200 nvidia cards,
60gb internal hardrive, 1.5 terabyte external hard drive (brand new, very empty)
Recorded 24p and 60i on a Canon XL-2 (miniDV)
IEEE 1394 firewire connected from pc to uploading device. Unfortunatly i borrowed the xl-2 from school, and am trying to capture from a panasonic pv-gs36 i borrowed from a friend (only friend with a device that records with a miniDV cam).
I have been working fine on premier, very smooth when i import files, but when i tried to capture, as soon as i hit capture it freezes my whole set up, i have to manually restart my pc. I need to capture and export these clips to quicktime so i can edit in final cut at school (as requested by my instructer) the project is due in exactly one week, and the edit bays are always full which is why i opted for capturing at home with premier cs4.
Im in panic mode now though, cause of this freeze issue. I'll have access to an xl-2 for the remainder of the week if the panasonic cam is the problem, but if not, please let me know!! ill go out and buy a new graphics card if that really is the issue... but i cant afford the quadro....which is why i opted for adobe premier instead of avid.
im thinking its freezing because i recorded on an xl-2 and am trying to capture on this panasonic cam... could this be why?
i installed premier on the 60 gig internal hard drive...should i uninstall it and install it on the external 1.5 tb one? should my settings be a certain way when i start a new project? Please help out a stressed out student during finals week! I will be super grateful to any info anyone can provide. thanks again for all your time and effort =)

I'm unsure if the external drive is eSATA. I did buy it a few days ago 1.5 tb for 129.99 at fry's...good deal. What are the advantages of having an eSATA? The drive i have is a seagate Free agent-Desk external drive, model number st315005fda2e1-rk

Again, total noob here...
the external is USB 2.0, and yea, i only have 1 firewire port. Also, something i failed to mention is...I actually run my computer off my 42 inch samsung hd tv (720p native). When i was installing the whole production suite it asked me to get a moniter with higher resolution, but the click top continue installing anyway button was there so i went for it. Could this be the problem?
I'm fairly sure i recorded in standard play with 2 channel audio with the canon, so im starting suspect it is this dinky panasonic dv cam thats causing me all this headache.

annnnd finally, no input on the cards? I was thinking that was going to be the problem for sure. The cards are great for gaming but im not really sure what kind of cards are (at least decent) for editing and capturing.

I'm disgusted with Verizon right now and want out

I can't believe what Verizon has done to me over the last couple of months. It can't even be legal. I've had Verizon cell phones for 12 years.
A couple of months ago, I casually called out of curiosity to see how much it would cost to upgrade my phone. The guy I spoke to, "Kyle," told me if I were to upgrade my Omnia to an Omnia 2, it would cost $70 after an instant rebate and credit I had on my account for a 1 year extension. I was only casually interested, but he convinced me, and I verbally agreed to a 1 year extension, (My contract was up) for sixty nine dollars and change. I should have paid it then, but asked him to just bill my account. Everything was very very clear, and if it wasn't how he explained it to me, I certainly wouldn't have agreed to it.
My next bill, I got charged $289 for the phone. I couldn't believe it... I spent 3 hours (no exaggeration) talking to different customer service guys trying to get this fixed. They looked in the computer and said there were no notes about the conversation and all said "Sorry, nothing we can do." I asked to talk to supervisors, and they said they would call me back, and never did. Importantly, I was also promised an "instant rebate," and not only didn't get it, but didnt get a mail in either!!
I was back on the phone the next day, pleading my case to customer service again, for my entire lunch hour, and the best suggestion, at least from the ones that didn't put me on hold indefinitely, was that I could upgrade to the 2 year contract and they would credit my account $125. So, the verbal contract that I agreed to on the phone was enough to lock me in for a year, but the price they agreed to bill me was not legally binding apparently. I tried to tell them I never agreed to pay that price, and certainly wouldn't have!! Nobody cared. I told them I wanted out, and I wanted to send back the phone, which I didn't need, and had only casual interest in. I was ignored.
Stressed out of my mind, and only wanting what was clearly promised to me on the phone, or to simply nullify the contract, I called again that night, and a much friendlier cust service guy told me the same, that I had to upgrade to 2 years, and that they would send me a mail in rebate, and it would knock the price down. Defeated, I agreed. I recieved a rebate with an "Invalid purchase date" and am screwed out of that as well. Here I am with a phone I was ILLEGALLY baited into buying, never wanted for 2 years, and have no recourse whatsoever.
And of course, now the Droid X comes out... That would have been worth 2 years, but I'm screwed because of a lie, baited with a false price, which was a mistake on their part that I became responsible for against my will ,jerked around for many hours on the phone, and topped off with an invalid rebate. I am beyond disgusted.. Again, 12 years of patronage, and this is what I get..
