String auto-converts HTML characters?
Hi all, I have an XML document that contains a field like
this:
<someHTML><b>ThisIsBolded</b></someHTML>
Now, I want to put this correctly-rendered HTML into the
htmlText portion of a Text tag. Which I try to accomplish using the
following:
var nodeHTML:String = node.someHTML.toString();
trace(nodeHTML); // Output: <b>ThisIsBolded</b>
(what!? I didn't replace anything!)
nodeHTML.replace("<","<").replace(">",">");
trace(nodeHTML); // Output: <b>ThisIsBolded</b>
(what!? replacement didn't do anything!)
myText.htmlText += nodeBody + "\n"; // Output: Plaintext
output, no bolding! But also no tags...?
Does anyone know what is going on? It seems like I can't
display HTML in the htmlText property. Any help would be
appreciated.

CA Forum: General
The maximum length of a String constant, a String value held by a String variable, a String value returned by a function or a String element of a String array is 65,534 characters.
The maximum size of an array is 1000 elements.
The maximum number of arguments to a function is 1000. (This applies to functions that can have an indefinite number of arguments such as Choose).
Not sure about the HTML ?

Auto convert special characters
Good day all and thanx for your help.
CS3 & trying out CS5.
A couple of the sites I do, are written in Afrikaans, ons of the 11 official languages in South Africa.
Afrikaans makes use of characters such as ê, ë, ô, ü, é, ö and so on. I normally forget to change it in code view and make use of &... It then displays as funny characters in browser. Is there a way I can learn/tell DW to auto change my special characters or do you perhaps have a good solution or tip for me.
Thank you very much.
Regards,
DeonHi Deon,
that happens to me very often too. So I too thought it would be nice to change the special characters automatically. All I've found at that time was a payment program (in those days for CS3). It's still here after all:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web_Development/Software/Macromedia_Dreamweaver/Q_22706485 .html
Meanwhile, I'll do it in another way. When I finished one of my sides, I use the "Find and Replace"-function of DW. I start searching one of the special characters and after changing them (if necessary), I only replace one character and can start a new action. Look here for example (from my German DW where we have the same problems in our language):
The general way to insert the special characters you know, I suppose. If not, here you will find a nice tutorial:
http://www.recipester.org/Recipe:Insert_special_characters_in_Dreamweaver_27537484
or

Convert HTML special characters to String
Hi,
I'm looking for an easy way to convert HTML special characters (like "ö") to String.
Any Ideas how implement this? ThanksHi,
I'm looking for an easy way to convert HTML special
characters (like "") to String.
Any Ideas how implement this? Thankswell im assuming that you mean that when you are working with java you will be getting a ? instead of the character you want. assuming that you are reading and writing to this html file. if not well maybe this can stil help : BufferedReader inFile = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream(fileName),"ISO8859-1"));
PrintWriter outFile = new PrintWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream(fileName2), "ISO8859-1")); basically you need to make sure that ou define ISO8859-1 as the encoding. -
How can I convert a string to a seperated characters?
How can I convert a string to a separated characters without using array?
such as: input = String "word"
output =
w
o
r
d
ThanksA string is stored internally in individual characters.
The String class has a method 'charAt(int index)' which returns the character at that index so using a for loop..
String s = "word";
for(int counter=0; counter < s.length(); counter++)
System.out.println(s.charAt(counter));

Converting control characters to spaces in a Unicode program?
I want to take an ASCII character string and convert any
ASCII Control Characters to Spaces.
In a non-Unicode program, I define the following hex constant:
CONSTANTS: c_control_to_space(64) TYPE x VALUE
'00200120022003200420052006200720082009200A200B200C200D200E200F20' &
'10201120122013201420012016201720182019201A201B201C201D201E201F20'.
I then execute the following TRANSLATE statement:
TRANSLATE w_transcript USING c_control_to_space.
What would be the "approved" method of accomplishing the same effect
in a Unicode program?Neil,
First, thank you for pointing out my typo. You are correct that the "0120" in the second line of the literal was intended to be "1520".
Second, thank you for your suggestion. Based on your idea, I tried something similar, but not exactly what you suggested. In particular, since I can't figure out how to construct the constant that I want, I used your idea to construct it as a variable, as follows:
DATA number TYPE i.
DATA offset TYPE i.
DATA hex(4) TYPE x.
FIELD-SYMBOLS <char> TYPE c.
ASSIGN hex TO <char> CASTING TYPE c.
DATA w_control_to_space(64) TYPE c.
DO 32 TIMES.
hex = sy-index - 1.
offset = 2 * ( sy-index - 1 ).
number = STRLEN( <char> ).
IF number GT 1.
SUBTRACT 1 FROM number.
SHIFT <char> LEFT BY number PLACES.
ENDIF.
w_control_to_space+offset(1) = <char>.
ENDDO.
After having constructed "w_control_to_space", I can now use the TRANSLATE statement:
TRANSLATE w_transcript USING w_control_to_space.
This code passes the Unicode syntax checks and works correctly on a non-Unicode system. I don't have access to a Unicode system on which to run it. I'd appreciate any feedback on this approach - especially if someone can actually test it on a Unicode system. -
Parsing HTML characters (e.g.  )
Hi
Apologies if I'm missing something obvious, I haven't been able to find an answer searching the API or Forums...
I'm parsing HTML documents (currently as Strings) to extract certain information. Is there an easy way to replace all special HTML characters such as < etc. to a space or < respectively without having to do a string replace on every possible HTML character?
I know there's an HTML parser in swing but that seems to be geared towards creating an HTML editor.
Any help would be appreciated!There are also a number of open source or shareware programs, such as TidyHTML, that clean-up and parse existing HTML. Check out Sourceforge or www.downloads.com.

If I understood right then you are using APEX. HTP and HTF are included with Oracle and APEX. You don't need the Application Server.

AE error: Could not convert Unicode Characters
Hey guys,
I purchased the Video Copliot Action essentials 2 (720p). Whenever I try to import or drag and drop the pre-keyed clips (quicktime .mov format) into AE, I get the After Effects error: could not convert Unicode Characters (23 ::46) . I found an article online that said to make changes to the text in whatever Im importing, but umm it's a video, not text.
I am using AE cs5.
I can import the clips just fine into Premier Pro and export them oddly enough in Quicktime format just fine, however I lose the transperency "pre-keyed" , that's somehow embedded into the original video, therefore I now have a video of smoke, but with a non removable black background.
Please help! thanks!Hey man i made an account just to reply to this, i had the same error come up while i was importing video files so i had a look around and found that it had something to do with the language/coding not being recognised, so i looked closer into the footage and tried different method of importing the file and later realised that after effects didnt recognise some of the characters in the file path way, the original folder was created using a macbook, windows recognises the language but after effects didnt, so i moved the file to my desktop and tried to import it again and presto it worked fine, you may not have the same problem but i thought just incase you do, you should try moving the file,
if not heres a thread for the error:
http://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/kb/error-could-convert-unicode-characters.html
hope that could be of some help.

Hello I just created a project in AE CC and wanted to save also a version for CS6.
All went ok but when I tried to open the project in CS6 I received the following error:
"After Effects error: could not convert Unicode characters. (23::46)"
Does anyone know what that means and how to fix it?After Effects CC is much, much better at handling characters that are outside of the character set used by the OS at its current language settings. So, file names and paths (and other strings) that work fine in After Effects CC and later may fail with earlier versions.
For example, if you are running your OS and applications in English and have Chinese characters in your file names, After Effects CS6 and earlier will fail, but After Effects CC and earlier will succeed. -
Convert Asian characters to EBCDIC double byte
How can I convert Asian characters like Chinise or Japanese into EBCDIC double byte array in Java. Do any code available to do this
ThanksIf I have a asian character in test (String) need to
convert it to double byte EBCDIC array. Can you please
let me know how to convert.That is somewhat like saying how do you convert it to ASCII, neither is possible.
There are a number of character sets in the world that use the EBCDIC encoding for the lower bytes and support a multibyte format for another language.
First you need to figure out what character set(s) you can use.
Second you see if java supports an encoding for that.
If it does then you use String.getBytes(String charsetName)
If it doesn't you will have to make your own mapping function. -
Hi,
As the subject stats i am trying to convert HTML tables to an array. It is a desktop application basically to performs a http request and is returned with a HTML table. I cant change the way the data is returned. (The data is from FDM remote server and is hard coded).
here is a sample of the table. The table layout will remain the same, only the contents (files) will change.
<table width="100%" border="1">
<tr>
<td>File name<br> </td>
<td>Size<br> </td>
<td>URL<br> </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>notepad2.zip</td>
<td>258 KB</td>
<td><a href="http://www.flos-freeware.ch/zip/notepad2.zip">http://www.flos-freeware.ch/zip/notepad2.zip</a></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>TeddyGuess.zip</td>
<td>308 KB</td>
<td><a href="http://myhost.com/Guess.zip">http://myhost.com/Guess.zip</a></td>
</tr>
</table>So ive started and looking at my code i cant help but think there has to be a smarter way!!
public String getCompletedDownloads() {
String tableString = makeRequest("compdlds.req");
tableString = tableString.replaceAll(
"</td><td>Size<br> </td><td>URL<br> </td></tr>", "");
tableString = tableString
.replaceAll(
"<table width=\"100%\" border=\"1\"><tr><td>File name<br> ",
tableString = tableString.replaceAll("</table>", "");
tableString = tableString.replaceAll("<a href=\"", "");
tableString = tableString.replaceAll("\"", "");
return tableString;
}Please any help would be great.camickr wrote:
