String parameter containing "&"

Hi
I need to make a href containing a parameter:
String value = "Cut & Paste";
<a href="edit.do?test=<%= value %>">test</a>The parameter does not work if the value contains "&".
What do I do????
Best regards

You will have to escape the special characters. Pass your String through the java.net.URLEncoder class's encodeURL() method and use the returned String in your url.

  • Encoding a URL that contains a string Parameter

    Hi,
    I want to redirect to a servlet and pass it a String parameter. For example:
    res.sendRedirect("http://www.someserver.com/servlet/servlet2?msg=hello");
    This works fine as the servlet2 will display 'hello'. However, when I try to do this using a language that contains accent characters, the characters are not transmitted properly.
    For example:
    res.sendRedirect("http://www.someserver.com/servlet/servlet2?msg=t");
    The second servlet displays the t as: t
    Is it possible to send a string that contains these characters?
    Thanks

    Hi
    Priya again
    The unicode character got translated to the real character.
    Please refer to this chart to get the unicode character for e acute accent and substitue in the url .

  • JRC bug: apostrophe in string parameter passed to Crystal Report with Command datasource to SQL Server

    Post Author: nl11087
    CA Forum: JAVA
    A single quote/apostrophe in string parameter passed to a Crystal Report with Command datasource connecting to a SQL Server database, using sqljdbc driver does not escape the special character correctly. When doing a preview in the Crystal Reports IDE it allows you to escape the input parameter as expected and work correctly, but through the JRC component it fails. For string parameters without special sql server characters I experience no problems at all. When replacing the Command with a direct table there is also no problem.
    Reproduction:
    1. create a database db1, create a table table1 with a String type column col1.
    2. Create new report Report1.rpt, create a connection to above, Add Command using 'SELECT col1, col2, col3 FROM table1 WHERE col1 = '{?Par1}' . Add a parameter field Par1 : String
    3. In your java stand alone application using JRC add the parameter Par1 with a value "Jon Doe's Value" containing a single apostrophe. Export to PDF. (I also tried MSWord and this failed too, similar behavior). Additionally, in another test try to replaceAll("'","''") to escape it, preventing the code to break, but now it does not retrieve the expected row anymore and you end up with an empty report.

  • Can a single quote be used at the beginning of a query string parameter

    Hi all,
    I am a relative newbie and have a newbie question.
    Can a single quote be used at the beginning of a query string parameter passed to a jsp page? Are there any inherant problems with this? Is there a comprehensive list of characters that must be escaped in a query string parameter?
    Example: http://mysite.com/myjsp.jsp?param1='nghdh
    Thanks

    You'll have to escape most non-letter characters before you can pass them as a URL. I don't know if it's necessary for a single quote, but better safe than sorry.
    Either use java.net.URLEncoder(...) or use javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse.encodeURL(String). I wouldn't recommend using unescaped characters in your URLs, that might cause pretty funny behavior that's sometimes hard to trace back. Don't worry about decoding it, your JSP/Servlet container will do it when you call javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest.getParameter(String).

  • Crystal report static string parameter is running with null value too...

    Thanks Json ..
    your solution really helps me.Thanks again.
    One more issue is here,
    I have one subreport . In that  'amount ' field is present which have data type as 'character'  in database. I convert it in numeric by using following fromula,
    if NumericText ({Command.AMOUNT})
    then
    ToNumber ({Command.AMOUNT})
    when I run report in designer, it works but when I run it on crystal report server it throws error ad "Error in File :Error in formula . 'if NumericText ({Command.AMOUNT}) ' This field name is not known. Details: errorKind "

  • Accessing the Query String parameter from a portlet

    Hi!
    I have developed a PDK portlet in Jdev 10.1.3.3 for Web Center (Just for testing, later it'll go on Oracle Portal 10.1.4). I am trying to access the query string parameter coming in the URL but not successfull at all. Following are the options that I have tried in vain :
    In MyPDkPortletShowPage.jsp with *<passAllUrlParams>true</passAllUrlParams>*
    1.) PortletRenderRequest pReq = (PortletRenderRequest) request.getAttribute(HttpCommonConstants.PORTLET_RENDER_REQUEST);
    pReq.getParameter("data");
    2.) request.getParameter("data");
    3.) request.getAttribute("data")
    This makes me ask that is there any other way to access the parameter or is it simply not possible?
    Please suggest!
    Regards,
    Neeraj.

    Hi Neeraj:
    I didn't deal with web center before i am working on Oracle Portal 10.1.4 so if you done that on oracle portal and got the same problem check for this?
    - add the parameter in the page parameter then you will get the value from either preq.getParameter or from request.getParameter,just go to page properties and add a page
    parameter called data
    - did you publish your page containing your portlet as portlet and included it in other page or it is just a page containing this portlet?

  • Reference to variables using method w/ string parameter?

    I've done some programming before, but not too much in Java, so bear with me please.
    Basically, what I'm trying to do is find a static method with a string parameter that can serve as a variable reference. Here's an example of what I mean.
    Say that the method is "toVariableReference", with a string paramter. Then, to refer to a variable x1, I could refer to it as follows:
    x1
    OR
    toVariableReference("x1")
    See?
    Now, if you don't see the point yet, the reason I'm trying to figure this out is because if I wanted to check if nine integer primitive data identifiers contain values greater than 500, instead of having 9 if statements, I could do the following:
    for (x=1; x<10; x++)
    if (toVariableReference("int"+x)>500)
    <statements>
    Since this theoretical method has a string parameter, one could concatenate an integer counter to it, as I have done above.
    Now, the big question. Is there such a method that, when invoked, does what I have described? If so, what is it, and what java packages would I need to import for its usage?
    Thank you for your time!
    -Katsarephat

    Yes, you can change array entries. You might want to take a look at the Java Tutorial:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/
    The "Learning the Java Language" link has some information about arrays (and many other things).

  • ExternalInterface.call String parameter length limit???

    Is there a String length limit to the amount of chars a
    String can contain when passed as a parameter to
    ExternalInterface.call()?
    Also, are there any chars that ExternalInterface.call()
    cannot serialize in a string?? Like \n, \t ...etc.
    The livedocs don't answer these questions.

    thanks for your reply but i just figured it out.
    ExternalInterface.call("jsFunc", longString);
    There is seems to be no char limit that i came across cause i
    was able to shove 2K in there.
    The problem is the newlines in the string, they must get
    messed up during serialization. Just make sure you clean the string
    of newlines like so:
    longString = longString.split("\r").join("
    ").split("\n").join(" ");
    ExternalInterface.call("jsFunc", longString);
    works fine......

  • Dealing with an empty string parameter

    I'd think this should be simple but is driving me nuts. I have a string parameter (lets call it Foo) that is being passed from my C# application to a CR subreport. For this parameter field I have a formula associated with "Display String" similar to this:
    if (IsNull({?Foo}) or (length({?Foo}) = 0)) then
        "Value is empty"
    else
        "Value is " + {?Foo}
    I can never get the "Value is empty" line to appear! I've tried lots of suggestions:
    1. trim and check result equal to '' (two single quotes)
    2. test if equal to "".
    3. Adding false to Suppress.
    It appears that if this parameter is the empty string CR simply does nothing with my formulas and the entire parameter field is skipped.
    If I pass "null" (or any other special string) instead of "" from my C# code and then change the above test to check for that value as shown below things work properly.
            if (IsNull({?Foo}) or ({?Foo} = "null") then
    However I really don't like testing for a special string as there is the remote possibility that it could be the actual value of the parameter.
    Any help most appreciated.
    Dick

    Not surprised and willing to bet there will be a simple answer to this!
    There is something most odd happening when the string value is empty.
    Let me answer your questions.
    1 - How are you setting your parameter value?
    Since I want to be able to pass parameters to the base report as well as its subreports I'm using this method:
            protected void setParameter(string parameterName, object value)
                ParameterFields fields = report.ParameterFields;
                for (int i = 0; i < fields.Count; i++)
                    if (fields<i>.Name.Equals(parameterName))
                        string reportName = fields<i>.ReportName;
                        if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(reportName))
                        {   // give to base report
                            report.SetParameterValue(parameterName, value);
                        else
                        {   // give to subreport
                            report.SetParameterValue(parameterName, value, reportName);
    2 - What OS and service pack are you on?
    Windows XP, SP 3. All updates from MS installed.
    My development environment is either of these two:
    a. VS 2008. Version 9.0.30729.1 SP. ,NET Framework 3.5 SP1
    b. VS 2010 Version 4.0.30319
    3 - What platform are you targeting?
    For now just running on my XP PC but have tested our app on XP, Win7, and Vista. 32 and 64-bit version of each.
    4 - Is this a win or web form application? Win app
    5 - What is the version of your CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine?
    Version: 12.2.0.290, Product Type: Full
    6 - What is the version of crpe32.dll do you have on your machine?
    I only have one instance of this file in this directory:
         C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86
    7 - Did you have one of our betas on this machine? No
    Edited by: dcowan on Dec 7, 2010 2:10 AM
    I needed to finish this so I'm closing it.
    In my C# code I placed the following:
                        if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(value))
                            value = "!_Empty_!";
    and in the CR formula I used:
           (IsNull({?CoBrandName}) or ({?CoBrandName} = "!_Empty_!"))
    Everything is now working just as I want. Not an ideal solution but I gave up.

  • A more efficient way to assure that a string value contains only numbers?

    Hi ,
    I'm using Oracle 9.2.0.6.
    I was curious to know if there was any way I could write a more efficient query to determine if a string value contains only numbers.
    Here's my current query. This SQL is from a sub query in a Join clause.
    select distinct cta.CUSTOMER_TRX_ID, to_number(cta.SALES_ORDER) SALES_ORDER
                from ra_customer_trx_lines_all cta
                where length(cta.SALES_ORDER) = 6
                and cta.SALES_ORDER is not null
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,1,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,2,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,3,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,4,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,5,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')
                and substr(cta.SALES_ORDER,6,1) in('1','2','3','4','5','6','7','8','9','0')This is a string where I'm finding A-Z-a-z characters and '/' and '-' characters in all 6 positions, plus there are values that are longer than 6 characters. That's what the length(cta.SALES_ORDER) = 6 is for. Also, of course. some cells are NULL.
    So the question is, is there a more efficient way to screen out only the values in this field that are 6 character numbers or is what I have the best I can do?
    Thanks,

    I appreciate all of your very helpfull workarounds. The cost is a little better in all cases than my original where clause.
    To address the discussion that's popped up about design from this question, I can say a few things that should clear , at least, my situation up.
    First of all this custom quoting , purchase order , and sales order entry system WAS written by a bunch a of 'bad' coders who didn't document their work and then left. We don't even have an ER diagram
    The whole project that I'm only a small part of is literally trying to put Humpty Dumpty together again and then move it from a bad custom solution into Oracle Applications.
    We're rebuilding, documenting, and doing ETL. This is one of your prototypical projects from hell.
    It's a huge database project so we're taking small bites as a time. Hopefully, somewhere right before Armageddon hits, this thing will be complete.
    But until then,..., well,..., you know the drill.
    Thanks Again.

  • Setting VarChar Variable with String Parameter in Crystal Report Add Command

    Setting a VarChar Variable with a String Parameter in a Crystal Report 2008 SP6.3 Add Command is causing an error with a SQL State of 42000.  The Error Code depends on which value I select for the parameter.  I created the @DateOpt string parameter in the Modify Command window, not in the report. If I comment out line 14 of the SQL the error does not occur.
    I have attached the SQL Code and screen shots of the errors.   Please tell me what I am doing wrong.

    Since your parameter is of type STRING, you need to enclose references to it within the Command inside single quotes.
    For example, instead of
    SET @BeginDate ={?BeginDate}
    use
    SET @BeginDate ='{?BeginDate}'
    hth,
    - ido

  • Read Query String Parameter Value in SSRS

    Hi,
    We have Project Server 2010 and Sharepoint Server 2010 env and using SSRS 2008 R2 for reporting purpose in Native mode.
    Here I am displaying the SSRS Project report in Project Server page using Report Viewer web part like below.
    Here I want to read projuid query string parameter value (Highlighthed above in URL ) in SSRS by using any way, so that I can pass that
    projuid value in my SSRS report parameter to filter and make this report dynamic.
    Right now I have to select the ProjectName (Label) which passes ProjUID
    as value from the Parameter, but I want it should read the projuid
    from URL so that this reports will display the project the data for the opened Project automatically
    Thanks and let me know in case we can achive this using OOTB or some custom functions.

    Hi,
    For the report parameter, you can get the value from database query or some embedded funcitons etc. or even some customerized function.
    You may consider to create your own code for the report to read the projuid from application or URL. The customer code can be used to get the values from the applicaiton or from the url etc. Then report can call the customer code function to get the value.

  • Dynamic cell associated value as query string parameter in custom hyperlink property of KPI of scorecard in PPS SP2013

    Can we pass dynamic cell associated value [of scorecard] as query string parameter in custom hyperlink property of KPI of scorecard in PPS SP2013 , so that we can pass those values to another page
    How to get those cell associated values and set these dynamic value as query string parameter in custom hyperlink property of KPI of scorecard in performance point services in sharepoint 2013

     I could somehow link to the table name, but that can be changed...  Any ideas?
    Not sure if this will help or not but maybe a little from several areas might point you in the right direction.
    If you are concerned about users changing the table name then you can define a name to reference the table and then if the user changes the table name then the Refers to automatically changes to the new table reference but your defined name remains the same.
    However, if users want to break a system even when you think you have it bullet proof the users come along with armour piercing bullets.
    Example:
    Insert a table (say Table1)
    Go to Define a name and insert a name of choice (eg.  ForMyTab1)
    Then click the icon at the right of the Refers to field and select the entire table including the column headers and it will automatically insert something like the following in the Refers to field.
    =Table1[#All]
    Now if a user changes the table name then Table1 will also automatically change.
    Example code to to reference the table in VBA.
    Sub Test()
        Dim wsSht1 As Worksheet
        Dim lstObj1 As ListObject
        Set wsSht1 = Worksheets("Sheet1")
        Set lstObj1 = wsSht1.ListObjects(Range("ForMyTab1").ListObject.Name)
        MsgBox lstObj1.Name
    End Sub
