String to image field..

     shortly,   this is what i need:
     does anyone have an idea how to show string in an image field????
     now for the long story..:
     I have a table, that all cells are image fields.
     I send to some of them a xstring of a picture, and they are showing me the pictures (works fine).
     Now, i've got a demeand -
          if i have an indicator - i need to put this thing:
          "date: xx/xx/xxxx time xx:xx"
          this date and time can be changed every run.
     I though to make something like that:
          data: lv_string type string.
          lv_string = 'date 22/12/2012'
     then convert it to XSTRING with the fm 'scms_string_to_xstring'.
     but even then - when i send this xstring, the image field won't show the text. Actually it won't show anything.
     does anyone have an idea how to show string in an image field????

I remember a custom solution from John Brinkman to continue text entries in the text field when the current field is full.

How to dynamically display in Image Field with external pic source

I have the following scenario:
I need to have a form that needs to display an x amount of images on the same page area. I have not found any documention with regards to creating an undisclosed number of Image Field elements, so I am experimenting with using a Table to display entries of type Image Field.
I do not know at design time which pictures will be shown in this table. This needs to be calculated dynamically when an Incident Number is supplied to the Java WebDynpro application that uses Adobe LiveCycle Designer (Dont worry about this).
Now, first of all: Is it possible to use the URL of images that are OUTSIDE the form structure? In other words, usually one would imbed the image in the forms structure, but because I do not know this image's URL at design time I need to pass it dynamically? Please comment!
Also, what is the FormCalc syntax for accessing a field in the "Data View" view at the left side of the designer? For example, If i want to access the following part in the "Data View"view, what syntax should I be entering in the script editor:

You cannot change the url of the image on the fly for security reasons.
In your case you have to use the dynamic image fields in the xdp form, encode the external images with base64 encoding to be a string, populate with those strings the xml and render your template with this xml.

Migration Workbench is messing up data in converted from SQL Server image fields.

I am working on porting a SQL Server 7 database to Oracle 8i (8.1.6 release 2). In the SQL Server database I have several tables that contain image fields that hold binary data (like Word documents, and other files). When I port the database to Oracle, the data in these fields gets garbled (the resultant records contain the correct amount of data (bytes), yet the data is different). Data in image fields that contain text oriented data ports correctly (i.e. if you just saved a long string in the field). Has anyone else posted a similar problem? Is there a workaround here to get the data stored in these image fields to port correctly?

The thing is DDL of SQL Server and Oracle are quite different, without the help of MW from SQL Developer. You can't convert SQL server version of DDL to Oracle version. Of course you can accomplish the same thing using other tools like ERwin and Visio. Since SQL Developer is free why bother?

How to extract the image field content?

I placed an image fields on an interactive form , user can upload jpg file into this field.
Could you pls tell me how to extract that using programming languages with the help of XML DOM?
I built a sample program that can retrive the content of the field, which is of type string, then when i save it to local drive, the image can not be displayed correctly.
could you pls tell me how to solve that?

Getting image from attachment into image field in a form

Hi all,
I have a process where a customer sends in a PDF with an attached image. This image is then stored in a process variable and I need to put it in another form.
Any ideas how to do this most efficiently?

Hi Paul,
I did what you suggested, here goes in more detail:
1. I use processFormSubmission for getting the attacment out of the document (might be possible in another way though).
2. I loop through the list of attachments to get to one I need
3. When I find it I use "getDocContentBase64(doc)" method and saves to string
4. I store the string in my xfaform (in a normal textfield)
5. On the form I have some simple code on initialize that sets the data from the textfield to be assigned to the image field for the image.
Thats it...simple eh :)
PS: There is a glitch in the Help for LC 8.2, it says that there is a " getDocFromBase64(aString)" method available, but it is not there...

Insert a dynamic link form R/3 into image field in PDF.

Hi gurus ,
I am using a wd java application . In that i want to show employee pic in adobe form . I have RFC in place , that gives me URL (ex : http://retep.... ) containing employee pic Context is of type string
Now i have craeted a image field in PDF . but i am not sure about scripting and how to bind that context to image field , so that based on the url it dynamically displayes employee pic.
Any suggestions are most welcome .

Hi Abhay,
If u are getting the URL from the R/3, then set the type of the context variable to the model type rather than making it as a String.
map the type of the context variable to the type present in the RFC

What is the right type of the context attribute for binding the image field of the form?

I also think it was a binary. but I do not, partly because the image field object is bindable with any data context (I tried so far with integer, string, binary)
To share the image between two Web Dynpro vew I used "usePDF" mode but I would like to bind the image with a context attribute so I can use "updateData" mode instead of "usePDF" mode

Resetting an Image Field

Hey everyone,
I have created an interactive form in Adobe Designer 7.0 for my company with text fields and two image fields. After the form had been filled in and the images added, the user has the option to submit, print or reset.
Everything works perfect except when the reset button is clicked, only the text fields are cleared and the two images remain.
How can i get it so that the whole form is reset?

I am quite new to this and am not familiar with javascript at all. I have created the form so far only using the text and image fields available to me in the designer 7.0 library. Are you saying i will have to add the string of code that you provided in the XML source tab myself? If so, could you please show me how it should be entered. Im a little out of my depth with this so any help would be great.
This is the what i think the reset script is.... i may be wrong, if it is, how is the code you provided added to it?

You can check to see if it contains a string once by using the contains function, but there isn't a very clean way to do what you want. If you wanted to guess at the maximum number of occurrences, then you could:
Box A has your initial. Set Box B to do a concat of string-before and string-after of Box A where it copies Box A minus the string we're looking for. Then we have Box C that does the same thing to Box B. Repeat as many times as you see necessary.
Example:
String: "1"
Box A - "123451234512345"
Box B - "23451234512345"
Box C - "2345234512345"
Box D - "234523452345"
etc.
We then have a field that has nested ifs looking backwards from Z -> A looking for a non-blank. Based on that, we return the number of occurrences. Again, this isn't clean, but it will work if you think there's a predefinable maximum.

How to create a report in Form line Style and can display Image field?

Hi,
In Report builder 10g, I would like to create a Report with Form Line Style and this report included a Image field.
I can choose this Style only when Select Report type is Paper Layout. Because, If I choose Create both Web & Paper Layout or Create Web Layout only then in the next Style tab 03 option Form, Form letter and Mailing Label be Disabled.
But in Paper Layout, my report can not display Image field.
I tried with Web layout and all the other Styles (Except 03 mentioned be Disabled) then all Styles are displayed Imager field OK.
How to create a report in Form line Style and can display Image field?
I was change File Format property of my Image field from text to Image already in Property Inspector. But report only showed MM for my Image field.

Here you go..Just follow these steps blindly and you are done.
1) Create a year prompt with presentation variable as pv_year
2) Create a report say Mid report with year column selected 3 times
- Put a filter of pv_year presentation variable on first year column with a default value say @{pv_year}{2008}
- Rename the second time column say YEAR+1 and change the fx to CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)+1
- Rename the second time column say YEAR-1 and change the fx to CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)-1
Now when you will run Mid Report, this will give you a records with value as 2008 2009 2007
3) Create your main report with criteria as Year and Measure col
- Change the fx for year column as CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)
- Now put a filter on year column with Filter based on results of another request and select these:
Relationship = greater than or equal to any
Saved Request = Browse Mid Report
Use values in Column = YEAR-1
- Again,put a filter on year column with Filter based on results of another request and select these:
Relationship = less than or equal to any
Saved Request = Browse Mid Report (incase it doesn't allow you to select then select any other request first and then select Mid Report)
Use values in Column = YEAR+1
This will select Year > = 2007 AND Year < = 2009. Hence the results will be for year 2007,2008,2009
This will 100% work...

Uploading values for an image field in a web app. Nothing displays in layout.

I've uploaded the values (using the import) for a field defined as an image in a web app. When I try to display the field, nothing shows up. The value correctly shows up when I look at Web App items after the upload / import. I've uploaded the same value in a text field, just to learn what was happening, and the text field displays the image just fine when added to the layout.
I would like to use the image field type, as it's easier to correctly create the link when the web app is updated in the future.
Here is what works in the layout: <a href="{tag_link to page}"> <img alt="" class="column66_award_thumb" id="thx" src="{tag_image thumb}" /></a>
Note that {tag_image thumb} is a text field with the link stored in it. The value for each Web App Item which populates this field is a link to the image. (i.e. /Awards/139.jpg)
Here is what I want to work: <a href="{tag_link to page}"> <img alt="" class="column66_award_thumb" id="thx" src="{tag_thumbnail image_value}" /></a> , where {tag_thumbnail image_value} refers to a field defined as an image in the web app. It has the exact same value as {tag_image thumb}. I just copied the field values in the Excel spreadsheet (saved as .csv) when I uploaded it.
It looks like the image field works fine only when I manually create it in the web app. If this is the case, using the upload capability disables any ability to use the image field type.
Is there a workaround for this? Am I missing something?
The page I'm working on is http://www.e-a-a.com/awards When you view the source, you can see that the small thumbnail images are displaying just fine. (I'm using the text field). Whenever I substitute the image field name {tag_thumbnail image}, {tag_thumbnail image_nolink}, or {tag_thumbnail image_value}, the src value is always null.

Hi there,
To do it properly you need to resize the image. Prefably before you put it into BC. While you can for scale the image in CSS you do not want to do this. Why? Because the images are still very big and likely not optimised as they should be for the web.
This means the page with these images will take a very long time to load for people, and people wont be to happy about that viewing your site.
You need to use software such as photoshop if you have it or iphoto on a mac for example to edit, crop and size images before you upload them. If you do not have anything you can use free web based tools such as this one:

You can also do this within BC itself in the file manager. If you click the image you can see options to resize it. The downside of that is that is done by pure math. It does not know what is in the photo and the results can make the image look squished etc.

Image Field Scale Proportionally does not work

Dear all,
we are using LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 to program a dynamic form in which we want to use image fields. Users filling the form should choose the picture to display in the image field.
We set the Image Field to embed data (so it can be saved) and to scale proportionally.
Testing the form with Adobe Reader 8.1.4 or 9.1, it’s possible to insert a picture, but it does not get scaled and seems to be positioned in the Background of the form.
Who can help us fixing this problem? If helpful, i can provide a copy of the form draft. Thanks in advance for any help und

figured it out by myself. Sometimes it's good to sleep a night over it ...
The solution is: In the Layout Tab of the image field, no exact measures were defined (extend to fit boxes checked). This way the poor program goes into a circuit.

Is there a way of hiding the ? symbol if a record's image field is blank?

Basically I've set up a details page on a site that allows the site owner to display up to three images. However, sometimes they'll only upload one or two images.
Which currently looks like this :

Is there some way to get rid of the little ? icons where the image field is empty?
I tried uploading a small white image, and setting the fields to blank.gif as the default, but the file upload script seems to overwrite those with an empty field if no image is selected to upload.
So at the moment I've given them that small image to use if they don't have images, but it would be good to know if there was a way of avoiding that step?

Read only image field

I'm using version 8 and have enabled my form in acrobat so that users can enter text in my fields. I also have an image field on my form. My question is how do I make the image field read-only so that a user can not click on it an prompt them for a file?
I need to use an image field and not a static image for other reasons.
