String value null in the XI mapping
Hi folks,
is it possible to create in the XI mapping for a string the value <b>null</b> and not an empty string like "". It is necessarily for the Webservice over the soap adapter.
Thanks for answers
Johann
Johann,
Make sure the min. occurance of the target node is 0. If you do not map the field it will not throw an error. It will throw an error only if the min occurance is equal to or greater than 1.
@Shabz,
I guess Mapping to a string constant "null" is not the same as null. Pls correct me if I am wrong.

How to update a string value located on the main VI
Hello
I would like, from a subVI, to update a string value located in the main VI (using References). I was trying to find examples on NI web page but it´s impossible to download them (for more than one month : Error, File Not Found), do everyone has got the same problem?
Thanks for your answer
NicolasHi,
this is from LV help file:
Complete the following steps to create a subVI that includes a control reference directly from a Property Node.
1.On the block diagram, right-click the front panel object terminal for which you want a control reference and select Create»Property Node from the shortcut menu to create a Property Node implicitly linked to the object. You can have multiple Property Nodes for multiple front panel objects.
2.Use the Positioning tool to select the new Property Node and select Edit»Create SubVI from menu. LabVIEW automatically creates a control reference to the control on the block diagram of the main VI, creates a subVI that contains a control refnum wired to a Property Node, and wires the control reference on the main VI to the
control refnum input terminal of the new subVI.
Note: Select several Property Nodes at once to create a subVI with multiple control refnums and Property Nodes.
3.Double-click the subVI to open it. Modify the Property Node and other elements of the subVI as you do in any other VI.
4. If you want to change values of control then select "Value" property in Property node.
I've attached the examples.
Good luck.

How to get a global string value to be the value of a JSF output box?
im useing Jdeveloper 10 i have made a JSF, JSP page i have a backing bean for that page. in there i have made a global value:
private string test = "TESTING"these codes have been generated:
public void setTester(HtmlOutputText outputText6) {
this.tester = outputText6;
public HtmlOutputText getTester() {
return tester;
}now how do i put test as the output text?That wouldn't even compile. HtmlOutputText isn't a subclass of String (heck, java.lang.String is a final class).
Two ways to solve this: 1) use HtmlOutputText#setValue() in the constructor or initialization block of the bean or even by lazy loading in the getter. Just create a String getter and use it in the value attribute of the outputText element in the JSF page. -
Help to search for a string value and return the index in the arraylist
Hello,
I just start java programming for the last three weeks and I cannot find a solution for this problem. I have the following List with string and integer value as shown below:
List<Empl> list= new ArrayList<Empl>();
list.add(new Empl(1,"Jim", "Balu",88);
list.add(new Empl(3,"Bob", "Howards",2);
list.add(new Empl(2,"Chris", "Hup",8);
I have no problem of sorting this arraylist either by firstname or lastname. However, I cannot think of a way to search for a firstname or lastname and returing the whole row. I do not want to use index since I am asking user to enter the name to search. Here is my code to search for an empl based on index.
System.out.print("Please enter index to search or (q)uit: ");
String ans = sc.next();
System.out.println();
int ians = Integer(ans);
if (ans.equalsIgnoreCase("q"))
choice = "n";
else
System.out.println("index " + list.get(ians)); //this will print out the whole row based on the index
Since the user will never seen the contents of the arraylist, is there a way that I can search by string last/first name and will get the index location in int if the result is met?
Please advice and thank you.
Bob.user11191663 wrote:
Since the user will never seen the contents of the arraylist, is there a way that I can search by string last/first name and will get the index location in int if the result is met?Another possibility is to set up an ArrayList for each thing you want to search on and then every time you add an employee, add the piece of data you want as well, viz:
Empl e = new Empl(1,"Jim", "Balu",88);
list.add(e);
firstNames.add(e.firstName());As long as you always add them in the same order, the indexes will match, so you could do something like
ians = firstNames.indexOf(nameToFind);to return the index of the name, if it's there (if not, it will return -1).
I wouldn't recommend this as standard practise, but it should be OK for the level you're at.
NOTE: indexOf() returns the index of the FIRST matching item. You may want to think about what you want to do if there are more than 1.

JDBC Receiver does not convert empty string to NULL
Hello experts,
I am facing a problem with an INSERT statement to ORACLE DB where some of the fields are empty, for example:
- <STATEMENT_VLP_CONT_DETAILS>
- <TABLE_VLP_CONT_DETAILS ACTION="INSERT">
<TABLE>VLP_CONT_DETAILS</TABLE>
- <ACCESS>
<VLP_HDR_ID>43</VLP_HDR_ID>
<VLP_CONT_LINE_ID>1</VLP_CONT_LINE_ID>
<QUANTITY>1</QUANTITY>
<OWNER>CBHU</OWNER>
<SERIAL_NO>3372739</SERIAL_NO>
<CONT_ISO_CODE>2300</CONT_ISO_CODE>
<WEIGHT>6.44</WEIGHT>
<POL>ILASH</POL>
<POD>FRFOS</POD>
<FD>FRFOS</FD>
<OPER_CODE>COS</OPER_CODE>
<CUR_STOW_LOC>150102</CUR_STOW_LOC>
<PRV_STOW_LOC />
<HAZARDOUS>N</HAZARDOUS>
In the JDBC Receiver comm channel I selected: Interpretation of Empty String Values = NULL Value.
It seems the empty strings are not converted to NULL values as can be seen in the reflected SQL statement in RWB:
INSERT INTO VLP_CONT_DETAILS (VLP_HDR_ID, VLP_CONT_LINE_ID, QUANTITY, OWNER, SERIAL_NO, CONT_ISO_CODE, WEIGHT, POL, POD, FD, OPER_CODE, CUR_STOW_LOC, PRV_STOW_LOC, HAZARDOUS, EMPTY, REFER, OOG, HAZARD_IMDG, TEMP_SET, TEMP_MIN, TEMP_MAX, FRONT_OVL, REAR_OVL, RIGHT_OVW, LEFT_OVW, OVERHEIGHT, COMMODITY, BOOKING_REF, ALLOTMENT, YARD_LOC, LD_SEQ_CRANEID, LD_SEQ_NUMBER, LD_STATUS, STACKABLE, OPT_PORT_CODE1, OPT_PORT_CODE2, OPT_PORT_CODE3) VALUES (44, 1, 1, CBHU, 3372739 , 2300, 6.44, ILASH, FRFOS, FRFOS, COS, 150102, , N, N, N, N, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , 0, 64, N, , , )
So, I am getting the following error:
Could not execute statement for table/stored proc. "VLP_CONT_DETAILS" (structure "STATEMENT_VLP_CONT_DETAILS") due to java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00936: missing expression
Help would be appreciated.Hi Effi,
There is a mismatch in the field and thier value.
Here field id 37
VLP_HDR_ID, VLP_CONT_LINE_ID, QUANTITY, OWNER, SERIAL_NO, CONT_ISO_CODE, WEIGHT, POL, POD, FD, OPER_CODE, CUR_STOW_LOC, PRV_STOW_LOC, HAZARDOUS, EMPTY, REFER, OOG, HAZARD_IMDG, TEMP_SET, TEMP_MIN, TEMP_MAX, FRONT_OVL, REAR_OVL, RIGHT_OVW, LEFT_OVW, OVERHEIGHT, COMMODITY, BOOKING_REF, ALLOTMENT, YARD_LOC, LD_SEQ_CRANEID, LD_SEQ_NUMBER, LD_STATUS, STACKABLE, OPT_PORT_CODE1, OPT_PORT_CODE2, OPT_PORT_CODE3
And value is 35
44, 1, 1, CBHU, 3372739 , 2300, 6.44, ILASH, FRFOS, FRFOS, COS, 150102, , N, N, N, N, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , 0, 64, N, , ,
Give empty values for nuil fields so that they can be made NULL by jdbc adapter

Change string value by adding a transaction key in T156
Hello expert,
My client want to add the transaction key BSX in the string value used for the code movement 261 k (good issue
of supplier consignment stock).
SAP Active Global Support respond that changes of value string for standard movement types are not supported.
However we want if possible to change that : is there a way to do that?
Thanks for your response.
Céline OualiHi,
If you just want to use new transaction or account modifier without changing value/quantity string, you can do that in T156X.
Otherwise, i.e. to update value/quantity string -
Create a custom value string with reference to SAP standard WA03. Update the Value/Quantity string for movement type 261 K in table T156S. Goto SE11 - Display Contents - Create/Maintain Entries.
You need to add custom transaction keys/account modifiers for value strings in table T156W.
Thanks

How to define the boolean - String value mapping for SelectBooleanCheckBox?
I have a SelectBooleanCheckBox component whose value is bind to a bean property of type String.
<af:selectBooleanCheckbox text="State" label="State" id="sbc1"
value="#{viewScope.myBean.stateText}" autoSubmit="true"/>
The expected value for the Bean property is "Accepted" (for true) and "Rejected" (for false).
Currently, the component return String value "true" for checked and "false" for unchecked.
How do I set up the component so the boolean value can map to my expected String value?Sumit,
Thanks for the response.
I read that post too. However, I don't have any binding in my case because the component is bind to a bean property instead of an attribute of a view object.
Without the binding in the page definition, I can't find a place to define the mapping between the Boolean value and the expected String value.

Null values passed into the servlet
Hi all,
I keep getting null values for all the params that I pass into the servlet i.e. sqltype, producttype, process, instance etc....I have attempted to print some of them out on the screen but I keep getting the 'NullPointerException' error message...can anyone tell me what it is that I have down wrong in the below code?
If I run the servlet with method calls that have hardcoded arguments in them it works but not when I pass in the params from the URL...I am absolutley puzzled!

If the item is not in the cache i.e. if(o1 == null) then it will call a class that generates that object and places that object into the cache. That section of the code works fine coz I have tested that separately. It is the reading in of the arguments that is causing the problem. -
Parameters To Include Null Or Empty String Values
I have a table that has both Nulls & Empty Strings that I want to use as a Dynamic Parameter. Even though there is an indication of the Null/Empty String value when the parameter prompt comes up, selecting the value of Null/Empty String results in no records being returned. I have a formula to display the values in the report (where I substitute "Unknown" for the Null/Empty String values), but I am not able to do a parameter on that formula.
I guess in general, this is a situation of needing to be able to use a Dynamic Parameter based on a formula field.
Thanks for any assistance!
Edited by: Dragon77 on Apr 2, 2010 9:39 AMI'd use a SQL Command as the data source for the list of values. Something like this... (MS SQL Server)
SELECT DISTINCT
CASE WHEN t.StringField IS NULL OR t.StringField LIKE ''
THEN 'Unknown' ELSE t.StringField END AS StringField
FROM TableName AS t
ORDER BY StringField
Then use a formula like this in the selection criteria.
IF {?Parameter} = "Unknown"
THEN (ISNULL ({TableName.StringField}) OR {TableName.StringField} LIKE "")
ELSE {TableName.StringField} = {?Parameter}

How to align a String value to the right side inside a table column?
Hi,
I have a text view inside a table column which is mapped to a string attribute. I need to align the text in the text view to the right hand inside the table column. But its always getting aligned towards the left side. I have tried by setting the <b>hAlign</b> property of Element properties of Text View to <b>right / forced right</b> but still the text is getting aligned to the left side.
How do I align the String values in Text View towards the right hand side inside a Table Column?
Thanks and Regards,
Sayan GhoshHello Sayan,
if i do get it right, you are adding an TextView element to a Table Cell. Then you should consider setting aligment within the particular cell. By calling:
YourCell.setHorizontalAlignment(CellHAlign.RIGHT)

Grouping to display null values for all the missing dates
Hi SAP,
I am trying to display '0.00' value for all the missing dates in my crystal reports as follows:
17-Jan-14 40.00
18-Jan-14 0.00
19-Jan-14 0.00
20-Jan-14 80.00
However, my crystal report is showing as follows:
17-Jan-14 40.00
18-Jan-14 0.00
19-Jan-14
20-Jan-14 80.00
The missing dates with no data are group together and my '0.00' value is not. Kindly advise me the solution. The formula is shown as per attached.
Thank you.
Regards.Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Fyi, I am using a formula field in crystal report to display "0.00" for days in between as follows:
whileprintingrecords;
if Days_Between({Command.DocDate},next({Command.DocDate}),'dd-MMM-yy') = "" then "" else "0.00"
There is another formula field in crystal report to display the missing dates in between as follows:
whileprintingrecords;
Days_Between({Command.DocDate},next({Command.DocDate}),'dd-MMM-yy')
Below is my report custom functions:
Function Days_Between (datefield as datetime, nextdatefield as datetime, format as string)
' This function is only used to display what data is missing within a specified date range...output type is text
dim thisdate as date
dim nextdate as date
dim output as string 'output is the text display
dim daysbetween as number
dim looptimes as number
looptimes = 0
daysbetween = 0
output = ""
thisdate = datevalue(datefield) + 1
nextdate = datevalue(nextdatefield)
if nextdate - thisdate > 1 then daysbetween = nextdate - thisdate else daysbetween = 1
do
if nextdate - thisdate > 1 _
then output = output + totext(thisdate, format) + chr(10) _
else _
if nextdate - thisdate > 0 _
then output = output + totext(thisdate, format)
looptimes = looptimes + 1
thisdate = thisdate + 1
loop until looptimes = daysbetween
Days_Between = output
End Function
The issue arise when when there is more than one missing dates in between but the null values ("0.00") displayed is only for the first missing dates and not for all the missing dates.

Since you didn't say anything about how you're writing your XML file, it's pretty hard to suggest what exactly you should change. -
Which is better storing string values in Map or String buffer
Hi,
I have a store a 10 string values in a cookie. Do i use a String buffer and append all values or put it in a hash map.
If i put in a string buffer i have to use a string tokenizer to loop and extract the values., but if i am using a map then
retrieval will be easier, but in terms of memory management, which is better. as i have to create this cookie for every unique IP hitting my site.
Thanks,

That doesn't make it a good idea. The bytes of memory you'd lose by using a Map would be made up by the fact that Map was expressly made for storing key/value pairs. Memory management should be about the 200th factor you should consider. -
Issue with applet reading the zero-length string values
In my application the javascript function is setting the values read from the text fields to an applet. If the text fields are blank the javascript is setting blank value only but in the applet the values have become null. Please can any one let me know what exactly is the problem here?
Its working fine in jdk 1.6.0 I upgraded it to 1.6.0_12 update and facing this problem.In the applet class its checking the same way but there i m getting the value as 'null' for the parameter set from javascript.
But in the javascript if i try to alert the value its giving me blank i.e., zero-length string.
When i tried to google it I found the following information,
In JDK 1.1 the Java language specification was loose in dealing with null and zero-length strings in the class libraries. Some APIs may treat a zero-length string as null, while other APIs may treat null as it is. In Java SE, the Java language specification has been tightened up to specify what the exact behavior should be.
This issue is not fixable. Thus, in Java SE an applet that relies on the APIs to treat null as a zero-length string may result in an exception.
Is there anything to do with this?
The strange thing is it working fine in 1.6.0 i mean i m getting the value of parameter as blank in applet which is same set from javascript.
But if the same is not working in 1.6.0_12 inspite of javascript setting the blank value, the applet is reading it has 'null'.
