Strobing effect in Music Videos

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6j4f8cHBIM&list=ALHTd1VmZQRNptgo4ed0biMPKtTTpYcIE_&index=6 &feature=plcp
Hello All
I have seen this effects numerous times in music videos and TV commercials where 2 images very quickly alternate.  I recreated the effect by making hold keyframes with 0 and 100 opacity values on the top layer.
At about 53 seconds into the video the strobing sequence is using 3 different clips.  I was wondering is there an expression that can do this.  Also in the music video the strobing APPEARS to be in sync with drums,  so I was thinking that there must be keyframes created by an audio amplitude setting in a plug-in like BeatReactor or SoundKeys.
I'm also assuming that this effect would be best done in AE instead of Premiere maybe I'm wrong and it is just one frame of video showing on two or three different layers in Premiere
Would love to know the various ways this effect could be achieved and which you consider the method to use.
Thanks in Advance
On a Mac CS5.5  OS 10.6.8

You are aware that there is a Strobe effect in AE, I hope, and that likewise, the Blend effect can avoid adding tons of layers.... Can't see your video due to copyright restrictions here in Germany, but I'm sure using these 2 effects may help a lot. For audio (and markers) triggering, refer to this:

  • Will After Effect work well for adding subtitles to a music video?

Will after effect work well for adding subtitles to a music video?  Or is there an easier Adobe product I should use?

Is there a way to protect music and video after a change is made to the beginning of a finished movie so as not to throw off the already completed music and video timeline?
If you are referring to music in the "floating" green background, then no. It will automatically readjust itself to the start of your project each time new material is added to the beginning of your project. On the other hand, you can add your music to a clip rather than a background and this audio you can "pin" to a clip so that it remains in the same position relative to the clip and any following clips which it may overlap.

  • Music Video Flicker Effect

I would like to add a Flicker or Twitch Effect to my music videos, it looks like ( 1 ) still image (possibly) or (1 ) video image flickering or flashing overtop another image real fast any thoughts. If i need a plug-in any suggestions would be great.  I am using Final Cut Pro X

If I understand your question correctly, just simply cut back and forth between the images you want to use for the Strobe/Flicker effect. Cut the video/image down to just a few frames or so, depends on how fast you want it.

  • 3d  effect seen in music videos

I do not own shake but i would like to know if it is the shake software used in music videos where the subject freezes and the camera rotates giving a 3d effect. I have seen it on bon jovi's it's my life and rascal flatts these days.
If anyone could give me some insight on how this effect is done please let me know.
    thanx

More importantly, Shake won't invent pixel data that wasn't there to begin with. Shake's strength is in compositing - taking multiple sources of video and grahics and blending them into one seamless piece. But it doesn't specialize in creating those elements. For that, you need to use in camera effects, a 3d modeling/animation program, or Photoshop.
Shake is a complex program with a steep learning curve. Not to sound snotty, but if it's a tool you really need in your workflow, you'll already know what it does and why you want to use it. Of course, there's no harm in checking it out to learn and explore it.

  • What video effect did they use in this music video?

What video effect did they use in T-Pain's - Best Love Music Video
Here is the music video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wmD3M-BfVo
You can tell there is a certain effect that they applied to it. It could be a camera tracker or a camera smoother. I just plainly don't know at this point. I would like to "try" and recreate it if I could with your help.
    Thanks in advance.

That's simple parralax animation to give the illusion that the camera would be very close to the talent while keeping the background in frame. Nothing magic there, given that all the backgrounds are artificial and have been added in post, anyway.

  • Slowing down clip has a strobing effect(choppy)? How can I smooth it out?

    Hi guys,
When I slow down the clip, it plays back choppy or with a strobing effect.
How can I smooth it out in FCP5?
    Anyone please,
    Many thanks in advance,
    Zia

    Zia,
I would double check that the 'frame blending' option is selected. Otherwise, is the original footage interlaced or progressive? If you shot progressive and only have 29.97 frames (or less) to work with, you might want to try a plug-in. If the frames do not exist, it will probably be difficult to get a really smooth look.
Should you have shot at 30i (aka 60i), you can do some high tech stuff with a playback deck and your original tape- set the deck to progressive and the 60 fields will be tranformed into 60 frames (per second), hence giving a slow motion feel that rivals that of film. (this depends on your original media and what deck you can get your hands on)
I just did this for a music video and even the best DPs that I know thought it was film.

  • Timeline won't render in Premiere Elements 12 (and music video editing advice)

I have a section of video I'm editing that won't render. I've read some similar threads but still have a question about how I can edit the clips to 'force' a render.
I'm running PE 12 on a Core i3 laptop running Windows 8, so not a huge amount of processing power. I don't have an orange line above the timeline over these clips and I understand PE has decided that it's already giving me the best possible preview quality and doesn't need to render this section. However, it's four quick edits in time to some music and when I preview it back my computer clearly can't process the video and audio fast enough because I get very jerky video so I can't verify that the cuts are perfectly aligned to the drum beats.
I've been exporting the whole four minutes just to review about five seconds of video in the middle to make sure it's synched, and this is getting really frustrating as I'm having to make frame by frame adjustments to improve the sync.
Is there anything I can do to each clip, like adjust an image setting, to force PE to give me an orange line and want to render this section?
Just as an aside to anyone who edits music video type clips - if you're making, say, four quick cuts to four drum beats in a bar, do you find the audio/visual sync works best if the cut is on the frame the drum beat attack starts on, or does it seem more natural if it's one or two frames after the initial attack so it's 'mid drum beat'? I'm tending to find just after the initial attack looks/sounds better for me - but maybe that's something to do with the delay in my PC processing the frame!
    Thanks for any advice,
    Chris.

    Chris
Please excuse the questions, but I did not want to take anything for granted...are you sure that you are looking above the Timeline content for the render indicator line? Assuming that you are OK with that.....
Are the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar placed so that they span the entire content of the Timeline, including this five second content which you say cannot be rendered. Remember rendering does not fix problems, rather it is a preview that helps you to realize that a problem exists sooner than later. Consequently, please confirm if an orange line persists over that five second content even if you press the Render key above the Timeline.
Have you expanded the Timeline content to the maximum with the Zoom Out Zoom In Slider above the Timeline get the best look at the content on the Timeline in contrast to get the best possible preview in the Edit area monitor?
Have you gone to Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and set the Audio Display Format to Milliseconds if you are involved in audio edits?
Have you been nudging audio in sync with video using shortcuts, such as...
As you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once (one tap = 1 frame nudge)
As you hold down the Shift+Alt keys of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once (one tap = 5 frames nudge)
I would suggest that exploration and experimentation are the best tools with which to work to achieve a specific effect for your specific
    situation.
Please review and then let us know if any of the above targets your questions about your workflow.
    Thank you.

  • Itunes 11.1.5.5 crashes when playing a Music Video

Itunes 11.1.5.5 crashes when trying to play back one specific video that was purchased through ITunes. It played once just fine. Now it crashes Itunes with every attempt at playback. Other previously purchased music videos play just fine. Any suggestions? Even a backup copy has the same effect.
As a side note: With the same video on a 4th Generation Ipod Touch, The slider can be seen counting through the video, but there is no audio and only a dark screen. Yet, other purchased videos play just fine. Also, the crash occured on the previous version of Itunes.
Itunes 11.1.5.5 Running on Windows 8.1 with the current version of Apple's video player software (that I can't remember the name of although I have just updated it and Itunes).

Apple support seems to know nothing about why iTunes 11.1.5 has this problem.
Anybody know how to roll back to 11.1.4? The problem didn't exist there.

  • Need Help with ACTIONSCRIPT for Interactive Music Video

I am trying to create an interactive music video in After Effects and Flash.
The concept is that while the music video is taking place the user can  decorate the hair of the woman with any of the objects they select.   There will be predetermined animations and destination spots but the  user can choose whatever objects they select to be delivered to the  predetermined spot.  I need to figure out how to let the user to select  an object that will become part of the animation.  I created a PDF  Roughly explaining what I am trying to do.  If anyone can help me I'd be  very grateful as I am more versed in After Effects, I don't know  ActionScript well enough to execute what I am trying to do.
Below is a rough example of what I am trying to do.  There will be a music video of an animated woman singing.  As she is singing the user will be able to click any of the objects , below the numbers 1-10.  Below it is illustrated that the user wants to press the blue number 2.  If the user presses the 2 the 2 will animate in the mouth of a bird to a predetermined pre-animated spot.  I assume I need to send a movieclip to a blank  holder on the timeline and use a gotoAndPlay() action ???  I am not well versed in ActionScript so any advice would help
Now whatever number (movieclip) the user chooses next needs to be placed in another blank spot in the timeline? Below the user selcts the Pink 5.
If the user just wanted to Place two "Blue 2's" then the "Blue 2's" would follow the same animated path and end up at the same predetermined space.
If the user selected just 5's and 7's they would go to the predetermined preanimated paths
How would I go about writing the Actionscript for this?

Look, I hope you don't have false expectation that by knowing one piece of AS capabilities you will be able to accomplish your task.
If I say that the code for placing one MovieClip into another is:
    clip1.addChild(clip2);
will it make any difference in terms of implementation?
Also, you say "select." This may mean a lot of thing: click, drag and drop, mouse down, etc. I am saying that implementation tightly depends of definitions that you give.
I don't know the extend of your AS skills, so it is not easy to figure where to start helping. Also, forum, perhaps, is not the medium where someone will write a lot of code for you. It is good for getting answers to very specific questions and solutions. This is when you have some code in place already.
What I would suggest is to start developing a very rough concept - no video, no birds, no numbers - just a static background image of the person you have in your first post. If you advance to an application that will allow user to select a square, place the square into another one - it will be a good start.

  • Trying to make a real music video

ive use the old imovie on a imac g3 an it has a music video title effect an i was wanting to know how to make a music video on imovie 11 because i cant find the music video title effect

    1) Make sure that your project is in the same aspect ratio as your camera. If your camera shoots 16:9. make a 16:9 project.
    2) Check the clip inspector for the clip in your project to see if Image Stabilization is turned on. Stabilization works by zooming in, so you may want to turn it off.

  • Adding ISRC codes to music video in Premiere Pro?

    Hi there,
I work for a small independent record label and we're currently working on our first music video for one of our artists. We have spoken to PPL (UK music licensing organisation), and they say we need to embed an ISRC code into the video/audio for the video. ISRC codes identify music so it is easy to distribute royalties to the correct people. They say we can do this in all major video editing software.
Does anyone here know how you can do this? Our editor is working with Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects.
    Many thanks,
    Chris

    Hi,
I use soundforge for my sound files...and this screenshot shows metadata for the wav file, which has info about artist, album, etc you can put into file...
The next image of of adobe bridge which also has a metadata panel for adding / changing info of the file you select..
However....check out the next screenshot of the video on youtube....notice the info about (metadata) where to download the music etc.....and this is where you should do some more research for a copyright program for metadata...where you LOCK the info into the file...as this is info that cannot be changed by an editor in the usual way....otherwise anyone with an editor could just change the metadata and make the copyright useless in terms of identity....  I don't have access to the metadata you see on the next screenshot...  it must be a copyright program that locks the info once input...and I imagine you can google for that sort of product...

  • Editing my cover music video in this fashion with about four/five shots on screen?

Type of editing I am wanting to do with my cover videos (multiple shots start @0:46): http://youtu.be/CBrBnmT8zWI
Hi everyone, I am a musician using Premiere Pro CS5.5 wanting to edit my cover music video in a fashion like the video posted above. The entire video has a white border, and each shot has its own border as well. Also, the shots change very often, and so does the structure of the borders and shots. I have been trying to figure out how to edit in this way, and I can't really figure out a way to do it all, yet alone efficiently since every shot must sync with the recorded audio.
Could someone help describe to me the process of doing this in an efficient manner in CS 5.5? Any help is much appreciated.

  • Music + Video Kind is not 'Music Video' incompatible in smart playlists

When iTunes introduced [Videos], they started showing up in my [Smart Playlists] used to maintain [Music] (too many to list). I was able to correct this by adding:
    [Playlist] is [Music]
    ...to all playlists.
However, [Music Videos] still show up in my music playlists. This is particularly a problem because, using [Rivet], every playlist that has any video of any kind gets added to the folder tree on [Xbox]>iTunes>Videos which clutters it significantly. I expected that:
    Match All
[Video Kind] is not [Music Video]
    [Playlist] is [Music]
    (and all other criteria)
...would fix this, but it doesn't; instead everything disappears-- I've tried the two in isolation too. I'm guessing as soon as you add [Video Kind] to a smart playlist, it dedicates that playlist to [Video] only making the criteria [Video Kind] is {...} AND [Playlist] is [Music] incompatible. However, in this case, these criteria should coexist IMO. Also, most of these playlists require "Match All" to be selected.
There are two workarounds if anyone has the same beef:
    1) Change all music videos' [Media Kind] to [Video], and just store them there. Not the ideal use of iTunes library system, but doable.
    2) Create another smart playlist called 'Music Videos' where [Video Kind] is [Music Video] and then add [Playlist] is not [Music Videos] to every music playlist.
Anyway, just thought I'd put it out there. Is the suggestion reasonable that these two criteria should be able to coexist? Am I using iTunes wrong or is there a better way to solve this problem?
Based on how I see it now, I hope someone at Apple will fix this. Add a [MEDIA Kind] criterion, ditch the [Video Kind] criterion, and make this aspect more intuitive (and consistent with the classification of library entries-- ie [Video Kind] doesn't exist anywhere in the scheme but [Media Kind] does). Either that or just make a way to choose an optional super criterion for every smart playlist's [Media Type], then we could use "Match All" vs "Match Any" much more effectively.
    Thanks for listenin.

Very cool- that worked, thank you! I didn't know that was even an option, and it must have popped up sometime after I bought my iPod Photo in 2005. And I would guess that the iPod Photo ignores that setting, since it worked just fine on that device, but nothing since then.
One question- I was able to bulk-edit my three Podcast groups by clicking on the group header and applying to all. But will each subsequent Podcast (I get at least 2 new ones each day) default back to Skip, and periodically I'll have to go back and re-edit the groups? Or since I edited at Group level, does iTunes make that setting sticky for that category?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Strobing effect within photos on FCP

Does anyone know how to eliminate the annoying "strobing" effect I get when I "zoom" into a photo or "pan" around in a still image on FCP? Or better yet, when I create my own "Ken Burns" effect on a still image, I sometimes get a strobing or weird shaking lines on a still image, especially when the image contains stripes.

The Pan/zoom you refer to as the "ken burns effect" was a standard effect in the movie/video industry long before mr burns was a gleam in his father's eye. Those who have been in the industry for a long time often find the idea of attributing basic rostrum moves to newly arrived videographer a little tedious and self serving. But, I digress.
The flickering is an artifact of the two field structure of interlaced video. It is a result of very thin (often horizontal) elements that exist on one scanline as is common in text or titling. This can also be the case in images with great deal of detail with high contrast as well as when when you are engaged in pan/zoom moves.
As the alternate fields play, the flashing element is essentially being turned on/off. The basic strategy is to get the element to exist over two scanlines so it is refreshed every time the field plays or to reduce the amount of contrast so the difference between ON and OFF is not noticeable.
Before you start any of these steps listed below, make sure you are viewing your material on an appropriate monitor. If you are working in an NTSC/PAL interlaced format (eg DV) you need an external TV monitor - not a computer screen. Without the appropriate device, you are playing blind.
Things to try (In increasing order of image degradation)
    • (in FCP) field order>none
    • (in FCP or Photoshop) reduce whites by 10% - reduces overly bright areas
    • (in FCP) flicker filter - minimum
    • (in Photoshop) motion blur>vertical> .2 - .5 pixels - blurs vertically only
    • (In FCP or Photoshop) Gaussian blur> .2 - .5 pixels -blurs both horizontally as well as vertically
    • (in FCP or Photoshop) deinterlace - throws away half the image and is generally not appropriate on scanned images
One tip when using blurs - if the problem does not involve the whole image, try using a mask to limit the effect to just the necessary area. This will keep you from softening the whole image.
Remember: Unless you are viewing your work in the appropriate external NTSC/PAL monitor, you are playing blind. The computer monitor only shows you a proxy image.
One final thought, if you have only used FCP to slow your material significantly, you may be simply duplicating frames to create the additional material to pad the playback. The flashing you see is the result of this. In that case, try using Motion or Shake's optical flow retiming to process the image. It will produce better quality product.
    good luck.
