Struts ActionForm variable values in JSP

I've tried to get variable values from a Struts ActionForm. I know that I can use Struts's bean tags, but can't figure out correct syntax or may there's some thing else to discover.
I'm trying something like:
<bean:define id="atr" name="MyActionForm" property="attribute"/></address>
<p><%=atr%></p>
And my struts-config look like:
<form-bean name="MyActionForm" type="sth.MyActionForm"/>
And the ActionForm is like:
private String attribute;
public String getAttribute() { ... }
public void setAttribute(String attribute) {...}
What may be wrong?

I've tried with <bean:write... but since I catch exception saying MyActionForm can't be found in any scope. As far as I'm aware I've set request scope like:
<action input="/jsp/something.jsp" name="MyActionForm" path="/jsp/myAction" scope="request" type="sth.MyAction">
<forward name="success" path="/jsp/index.jsp"/>
<forward name="failure" path="/jsp/something.jsp"/>
</action>

  • How can i insert the variable value in MS ACCES Query

    i am creating one Query (query1) in MS ACCESS ( like we creaate Tables, Forms and Reports in MS ACCESS ) in this Query i have given 2 constent value in BETWEEN CLAUSE , after that i Created a CROSS QUERY which is based on the privious Query (query1).
    Now i want to insert the variable value using JSP and HTML in to Query(query1).
    Doing this i want to execute the Query (query1) with variable perameters and
    wants to get the risponce form CROSS QUERY.
    In this matter how can i insert the value in Query(query1) using JDBC and JSP.

    The query is
    Select ZMSGMAP.GROUP_CODE as 'group', ZMSDSTATE.STATE_DESC as 'state', ZMSTRN.YRMON, sum(ZMSTRN.CMAQTY) as 'qty' from ZMSDSTATE,ZMSGMAP,ZMSTRN Where ZMSTRN.STATE=ZMSDSTATE.STATE and ZMSTRN.PLANT=ZMSGMAP.PLANT_CODE and ZMSTRN.YRMON between "+p1+" and "+p2+" Group by ZMDGMAP.GROUP_CODE, ZMSDSTATE.STSTE_DESC, ZMSTRN.YRMONUsing this query i m trying to display the risult but the YRMON is displaying in a single column, i want to display it ia seperat columns. here p1 and p2 is YRMON(it is the yer month like 200102), for this solution i have created Cross table Query which is based on uper Query (query1) and design it column wise Display, it is givng the right display, but the problem is this i m not getting the technique throw which i can insert the variable values in to the query1 (which is designed in MS ACCESS).

  • Struts where are values stored between jsp pages?

    Hi.I realize that this is forum is not specifically for struts but I thought someone might know the answer to my question.
    I have run the following code. The code contains two JSP’s that both get there values from the same ArrayList generated by the same actionform so contain the same data. Example.jsp is diplayed when the application is first run when submit is clicked newjsp.jsp is displayed.
    If a value in the fields of example.jsp is changed and submit is clicked the altered value is also displayed in newjsp.jsp. I am confused by this as after submit is clicked ExampleForm.java method reset is called which returns the variable values to their original value but the newly entered value is still displayed. Please tell me how this works

    Thanks for responding.
    I set the debugger as you suggested and found that method reset is being called.
    I did not write the whole of this program I was just playing around with and expanding a struts example I found on line.
    http://www.laliluna.de/articles/struts-nested-iteration-tutorial.html
    It contains the reset method.
    I am interested to know how to reset the values. So am clearing the data after it has been submitted, just to reset. I assumed that once the new page was arrived at the values would be taken from the array.
    I am quite new to struts and am not familiar with example_input.action and example.action I will look into these.

  • Values from JSP to Struts Action Class

    Dear All,
    Am working on a small struts project, i want to get values from JSP in the Action class, i tried with sending variables using request through URL, it works fine, any other way is there to send the values from JSP to action class. Am not having any input fields in the JSP.I have links.
    Thanks,
    vyrav.

    I have a dispatch action for that am calling the action like this viewfiles.do?parameter=edit, and i have to send a variable ID from the same page, so am doing like this through java script, viewfiles.do?parameter=edit&id=10. Am able to get the id in the dispatch action edit, but when i start tomcat with security manager its not calling the action itself and its giving accesscontrol exception, but when i directly type viewfiles.do in URL its calling the action.
    I dont know wats the problem, tomcat security manager not allowing this. Please help me.
    Thanks,
    vyrav.

  • Using a variable as a value in jsp:param

    I was wondering, I have a String variable, vid_1, and want to use a jsp:include and pass that in as one of the parameters. How can I do this? I have to do some testing to make sure vid_1 is valid and set a default if not. It contains a number referring to which video needs to be displayed.
    Is there anyway I can get this value to be used in jsp:param value?

    Well,First thing you haven't pharsed your question properly.
    Anyways as per my understading.
    The first thing is make use of in this case as your defined requirement states you need to make use of variables of both the JSP's which need compile time include not at the runtime.use of
    <%@ include file="url" %>would be more appropriate as you want to use the variable of parent jsp to the child one.
    Anyways if you are thinking to apply a solution using <jsp:include/>
    <jsp:include page="url">
    <jsp:param name="paramName" value="<%=stringVariable>"/>
    </jsp:include>and extract the paramName's corresponding value as a request parameter in other JSP.
    Hope that might answer your question :)
    REGARDS,
    RaHuLRaHul,
    Thanks for the reply. The second example you gave is what I was trying to do. I thought I did exactly what you have there and it was not working. I will check it over again and post back on here when I have a chance.
    For now I was trying to use c:set to save the variable in the request and then using the EL expression ${requestScope.variable} to put it in the <jsp:param> element. I had some things working and others not when I quit. Hopefully tomorrow I can give you a full report and we can get this worked out.
    Maybe my problem is something else? Look at this post of mine:

    Thanks so much for the help.

  • How can I pass a variable  value from first jsp page to thired jsp page

    In my program ,threr are three jsp pages . I want the first pages's variable value in to thired page .How can I acess.
    I used the request.getparameter() ,but when I print the value , null value is getting .

    request parameters only last for one request.
    To save them longer than that you need to save them somewhere.
    Couple of alternatives
    1 - store them to session
    session.setAttribute("username", request.getParameter("username");
    2 - create a hidden field on page 2 and store the value from page 1 there. When you submit page2, you can get it on page3 with request.getParameter again.
    <input type="hidden" name="username" value="<%= request.getParameter("username") %>">

    Regards,
    Ageel

    Thank you for your reply,,,
    I think then the only way to do it is to post the
    value on the server and then use request.getParameter
    method in jsp code
    but the question now how can I post values to the
    server using JavaScript without reloading the pageyes... you can to it by create a new popup window which will submit the value to server after page was loaded... then, server return a value to the same window in html/jsp page which then using javascript to set it back to the opener and close up the window... however, this is not a good choice unless you have no other alternative...
    >
    There is other possible solution
    if I can get the text field value from the same page
    without reloading it that would work fine and will
    solve my problem, is it possible?yes... you can get the value from the textfield...
    for example :
    function showValueInTextField()
        alert(document.forms[0].elements["mytextfieldname"].value);
    >
    My final question> can jsp change things on the same
    page without reloading it. I mean can it work like
    JavaScript so that I can use it's internal functions
    instead of using java script :S
    not really know what you trying to say here...

  • Passing javascript values to jsp without refreshing the page

    Hi,
    How do u pass a value of a javascript variable to the jsp without refreshing the page ?
    For example, a file called test.jsp in which a javascript variable x contains value 254. I need to pass the value of x to a method declared in test.jsp(same page).

    Hi Mona,
    when i say refresh i do mean a blink of the browser.
    This is a small example i wrote to show you how you can pass javascript varables to JSP variables. If you don't want the refresh to be seen by the user just include this code in a hidden frame on a page and instead of refreshing the entire page, refresh the hidden frame.
    i have to say, i didn't test the code so i don't guarantee it's flawless.
    if you need an more detailed example just tell me, i'll create one, but it won't be for today :)
    <html>
    <head>
         <title>Log in to the system</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <script>
    //we retrieve the parameter 'user' from the URL
    <%
      String username = request.getParameter("user");
    %>
    var user = "<%= username%>";
    //check if there is a username in the URL
    if(user=="null")
      //there is no username so we log the person in as a guest
      user="guest";
      //we refresh the page and set the user parameter to 'guest'
      //the parameter now contains the javascript variable 'user'.
      //The parameter can be read by the JSP (see the top op this script).
      //This way we gave the javascript variabele to the JSP variable
      location="login.jsp?user="+user;
    else if(user=="guest")
    {  alert("Welcome "+user+", I hope you like this site"); }
    else
    {  alert("Welcome "+user+", I'm glad to see you again"); }

  • Help: How to assign dynamically a javascript variable to a jsp variable???

    Hello all,
    What I need to do is to assign the value of the html form element which is a checkbox in this case:
    <input name="ADB02_checkbox" type=checkbox id="ADB02_checkbox" onClick="decide_enable_or_disable_particular_checkbox()" value="ADB02">
    to a jsp variable :
    <%
    String riderCode = "";
    %>
    Its dynamic because i need to do different operations based on different rider codes like in this function:
    function decide_enable_or_disable_particular_checkbox() {
    var rider = document.rider_form;
    alert(rider.ADB02_checkbox.value);
    if (rider.<%= riderCode%>_checkbox.checked == true) {
    enable_all_row_elements_for_<%= riderCode%>();
    else {
         disable_all_row_elements();
    which uses the naming of the rider code to call other corresponding functions.
    so is there any way that you guys ca suggest a solution.
    what i thought is to do this:
    function decide_enable_or_disable_particular_checkbox() {
    var rider = document.rider_form;
    HERE--> riderCode = rider.ADB02_checkbox.value;
    alert(rider.ADB02_checkbox.value);
    if (rider.<%= riderCode%>_checkbox.checked == true) {
    enable_all_row_elements_for_<%= riderCode%>();
    else {
         disable_all_row_elements();
    or
    add an onFocus="riderCode = document.rider_form.ADB02_checkbox.value;" in the checkbox tag.
    but can i do that or is there any other way or is it totally impossible to assign javascript values to jsp variables.

    Hi again,
    I got a problem here abt looping in javascript.
    The prob is that only the 1st loop works the rest are not.
    So only the checkbox in the 1st row is enabled, the rest aren't.(only ADB02 is enabled not DLP01 cause ADB02 is 1st in the loop)
    Here are 2 of many of the checkboxes in different rows:
    <input name="ADB02_checkbox" type="checkbox" id="ADB02_checkbox" value="checkbox" onClick="val_checkbox()" disabled=true>
    <input name="DLP01_checkbox" type="checkbox" id="DLP01_checkbox" value="checkbox" onClick="val_checkbox()" disabled=true>
    This is declared in jsp:
    <%
    //to be used with javascript function prepare_elements() for checking to enable/disable checkbox , to check age base and limit of insured
    String[][] riderCheckArray = {
    {allPlans.PLAN_HER_MY_FUTURE, allRiders.RIDER_ACCIDENTAL_DEATH_BENEFIT, "20", "60"},

  • Passing value from JSP to scriptlet

    Hi
    I am trying to find a way to pass a value from jsp to the scriptlets, i.e.
    <c:set var="testValue" value="123" />
    <%
    System.out.println(testValue);
    %>
    the above code just demonstrates what I was trying to achieve, by passing the value from the jsp into the scriptlet.
    Can someone tell me if there's an easy way to do this?
    Thank you.

    Note, using scriptlet code on your page is generally something to be avoided. 99% of what you should be doing on a JSP page can be done with EL/JSTL. If you can't do it with EL/JSTL then it probably belongs in a servlet/bean.
    I always aim for 100% scriptlet free jsp pages.
    Having said that, I can still answer your question: EL attributes are stored in the scope - page, request, session, application
    ${testValue} is equivalent to pageContext.findAttribute("testValue").
    The <c:set> tag example doesn't specify a scope, so therefore you could get it like this:
    <c:set var="testValue" value="123" />
    <%
    String testValue = (String)pageContext.getAttribute("testValue");
    System.out.println(testValue);
    %>alternatively exploit the feature of the useBean tag that creates a scriptlet variable:
    <c:set var="testValue" value="123" />
    <jsp:useBean id="testValue" type="java.lang.String"/>
    <%
    System.out.println(testValue);
    %>Note that the EL variable and the Scriptlet variable are initially pointing at the same String.
    But changing the string in scriptlet code will change the value it is pointing at, while leaving the EL variable untouched.
    If you have a List in scope, and sharing it between EL and scriptlet variables then any changes to the list would be reflected because they both point at the same List object.

  • How to call the form bean value on jsp withthe help of jstl tag

    hi
    all friends
    i am working in struts & i use jstl tag in jsp. i have one problem rise is how to call the form bean value in jsp page by using jstl tag.
    i now how to retrive the value through jsp:logic
    eg. <logic:empty name="userListForm" property="users">
    NO USER FOUND
    </logic:empty>
    see * userListForm mean formbaen name.
    * users means collection object.
    so how can i write above e.g in jstl

    You use the jstl core:if or core:choose combined with the EL:
    <c:if test="${empty users.userListForm}">
    NO USERS FOUND
    </c:if>I suggest you lookup the jsp expression language (EL) using google, it's very powerful.

  • Accessing variable from another JSP

    Friends,
    say, I have a Test1.jsp which has a variable "input". Is it possible to access this variable from other jsp "Test2.jsp"?
    any ideas?
    Thanks
    Hari V

    hi hari,
    there are essentially 3 ways of doing it....
    1).Usage of Hidden Values
    2).Using Cookies
    3).Storing attribute value within the scope of request/session/appln
    The choice is all urs....???

  • Passing a variable from Javascript to java variable in a JSP.

    Here is simple test Ive been messing around with.
    How do I assign the value that was selected in the radio button to a java variable in my JSP here. Javascript being client side and JSPs being serverside makes this difficult.

         for (i=0; i<thisform.myradiobutton.length; i++)

         alert("You selected button number " + myOption + " which has a value of " + thisform.myradiobutton[myOption].value);

    Thanks dudes.

    Please excuse me for appearing dim but my JSP skills are rather weak.
    I dynamically create rows in a table from an Iterator. If the mainTopic is news then I need a third column to appear with radio buttons. I have all this done. When a radio button is selected and the UPLOAD button is selected I need to know which of the values in the table was selected.
    When I ran the test below the selected value was null. Can you help me?
    Thanks.
