  • Recovery of Factory Default Software

I'm trying to re-format my Satellite A100 Model: PSAAKL-00E002 OS: Windows Vista.
Upon starting, there is "BOOTMNGR is missing". I restarted then boot to CD/DVD where the DVD RECOVERY DISK is located.
    I choose:
    Step1. TOSHIBA RECOVERY WIZARD
Step2. RECOVERY OF FACTORY DEFAULT SOFTWARE (RECOVER TO OUT-OF-BOX-STATE)
    Step3. RECOVER TO OUT-OF-BOX-STATE
                 (SYSTEM RECOVERY OPTIONS ARE INCLUDED)
Then, start loading/copying files. After that, this message appeared:
Cannot read from the source file or disk.
    PREINST5.SWM
I chose SKIP. And it flag an ERROR: 10-FC06-002. Before this, I tried again.
What is the solution to this?
    Need your help.

  • L505 freeze at "recovery of factory default software"

I am trying to reset my L505 to factory default settings. The first part went fine. After the first restart it has froze at
    "<recovery of factory default software>

    Initializing the partition. Please wait..."
It has been on this screen for going on 40 minutes now with zero change. I am not tech savvy. Is it safe to turn off and see what happens? Is there something else I should try?
    Thanks in advance!

Looks like you and I are in the same boat without a paddle. Just different laptop.

  • Recovery of Factory Default Software or Erase the Hard disk

I'm tryiong to wipe my laptop (Satellite A305) clean and reinstall Vista using my recovery disk and the Toshiba Recovery Wizard. When I get the the point of no return I have 2 options, either Recovery of Factory Default Software or Erase the hard disk. I've tried to use the first option (Recovery of Factory Default Software) before and it didn't wipe the virus I have on my computer off so I want to try the second option (Erase the hard disk) but i'm not sure what will happen

To rid yourself of a virus, you should delete all the partitions and overwrite all of the sectors on the hard disk. Those bugs can hide even in other partitions.
See the section Recovering the original factory image (recommended recovery method), which begins on p. 62 of the User's Guide.

That Guide most likely applies to your computer. But if you reply, be sure to give us the complete model number. I've noticed that sometimes Toshiba modifies the Guide.

  • Satellite L645D - S4040 Recovery of Factory Default Software error 0x80070456D

I am trying to assist a friend with her L645D.  It would not boot up, regardless of which option I chose or what I chose under f8.  So I used 0 and began the Recovery of System Default Software.  It started fine, but after awhile gave me this error: 0x80070456D.  A tried to say "try again" but it gave me the same error.  I considered using "skip" but was afraid it would crash and it has literally taken me days to get here.
The notebook would say..windows loading.. starting windows (with the little windows picture) then just a black screen.  It wouldn't even boot up in safe so I can't get to the start or a dos prompt that way.  Any ideas?  Please help.
She has had this system for about 9 months.
    Thanks

Ok I didn't have anyone respond, so I bit the bullet and told it to skip the error.  I held my breath and it went through a bunch of windows, starting over and over, but eventualy did a recover back to original configuration.  I tried some programs AND I restarted it over and over but couldn't ever detect where the program error was.  In short, I think I am ok, unless it blows up after she gets it home... so if you are getting that error, try skipping.  If you are in the same boat as I was, it couldn't get much worse.
    Thanks

  • C855-S5190 restored via recovery to factory defaults, ran the Toshiba updater, no Windows Update

I'm desperately searching for help!  My elderly father has a C855-S5190 and after trying the update to Windows 8.1 from the store, the laptop doesn't boot all the way up - kept giving various errors.  So, he dropped if off for me to try to fix.  I couldn't get around it so I did the restore to factory defaults from the restore disks.
After that all finished, I tried the Toshiba service station and it gave me about 7 updates that I installed.  After that, I rebooted and then wanted to see about doing the Windows 8.1 update.  Went to Windows Store - it says I need to do Windows Updates.  I went to search, and now there's no Windows Update showing anywhere.  I checked settings, and everything is empty under there as well.  What happened??
If someone could tell me how I can possibly do the Windows Updates.  I tried this once before trying the service center, the updates either fail, or they install, then it reboots, can't configure them, and gets stuck in a loop of trying to roll things back.  That caused me to have to do another restore to factory defaults - I've had to do it 4 times so far, and I just don't want to get stuck in that loop again.  So, I need to know what happened to my Windows Update, how do I get it back, and how the heck do I get this thing updated to 8.1?
I booted a Linux live media before starting and was able to recover the files, etc., he had on it to a USB flash drive since I knew doing the restore would wipe that all out.
Any and all input is GREATLE appreciated!!
    Dave

Here's the link to the Microsoft page,  I had to do this to get Windows Update to run.  The Windows 8.1 upgrade would not let me do the upgrade until Windows Update was run, and I kept getting this error.  It takes a *long* time for this to straighten out if you've done a factory defaults restore - several reboots, etc..

  • Help.New HDD recovery of factory default hanged

My Satellite M645-S110 Hard disk failed.I called Toshiba support and was advised to create a Recovery disk (4dvd) which I did and buy a new HDD. I bought and installed a new HDD (WD5000BPVT) and loaded the Recovery disk. It started the Recovery of Factory Default Software but failed on error in restoring PREINST10.WMM file. I tried this 2 more times and gave the same error. I assume the file was corrupted already when I created the recovery disk. So fortunately I have a set of recovery disc created when I first bought the laptop. This is what I have: 3 Recovery DVDs, 3 System Image dics, 1 System Repair disc, and 1 Windows Recovery Environment disc.
I loaded the no1 Recovery disc and the screen shows <Recovery of Factory Default Software> Preparing. Initiliazing the partition. Please wait...  so far I've been waiting for 4hours. Is there another way of recovering? Please help!

  • MSI GS70 Recovery to factory default after formatted partitions

here is what happened, after getting my gs70 I installed Windows 7 on it.  My mistake was I formatted all the partitions including the recovery partition without making recovery disks or back up.  After installing Windows 7 I realized that my laptop is having BSOD due to driver issues.
So for weeks now I've been trying to get my laptop to it's factory default or back to Windows 8.
this is what I have so far.  I have a friend that also owns the msi gs70 and I've asked him to make a recovery USB for me using the MSI BurnRecovery.  The closest I've gotten was recover from it, now I am running Windows 8 with all the drivers and settings.  But now my Windows 8 is not activated and is asking me to activate.  Another problem I have is when I try to run BurnRecovery software from MSI it's stating that I dont have a recovery partition available and i dont have the default partitions or hidden recovery partition.
    Please help...
thank you all, and happy new year

    Hello riow,
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I understand you would like to recover the C drive on your computer. If you do it properly, the D drive will not be affected. For more information on how to do it properly, please refer to this document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
I would definitely suggesting backing up your files in any way possible. I will provide instructions on how to do this: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7)

  • FYI Recovery to Factory Settings!! Toshiba!

Hi! I get bored and then I get dangerous. Toshiba and most other companies give you the choice to create recovery DVD's or USB . If you choose not do do that, Toshiba will send you recovery media for 30+$. You are also given the choice to create a system repair disc. Which can be very helpful when your PC won't boot. Toshiba can't force you to do that either In today's world, there will come a time when windows won't boot. Toshiba has tried to give you a way to solve this, but it's not just a one click fix. Toshiba has created a recovery partition that will restore your PC back to factory settings. So if you choose to ignore making the recovery DVD's or USB, you still have a way out. You will need to check your user guild to see how to do that. It's a little different, depending on your model number. IMHO, if you can't restore back to factory with the recovery partition, then you have other problems. It's either hardware or your recovery partition is corrupt. If you were smart enough to create the recovery DVD's or USB; then you can give that a shot, also found in your user guild. If that doesn't work, then your recovery media is corrupt, your DVD drive doesn't read the media correctly or you have hardware problems.
Hardware does fail and with lap tops, it happens a lot more. There are free programs that will test your hardware. If it's your mother board, might as well buy a new computer. If you are just a little smart you will use a third party program like Macrium Reflect or Paragon to keep a current back up image of your OS. I could explain all this in detail, but you would get bored and stop reading my thread. Log on Toshiba forum and be patience; someone will try their best to help you. Please stop bad mouthing Toshiba. They have their problems, but their are good people donating their time to help you here on the forum. If you come on here with a attitude, then please take your problem some other place.
    Dokie!!
PS I did not learn all this over night. I've been to the school of hard knocks. I love passing forward things that I have learned from others. I learn new thing every day. There are some good people here, so let them help. Be patience and we will do our best to slove your problem.
I Love my Satellite L775D-S7222 Laptop. Some days you're the windshield, Some days you're the bug. The Computer world is crazy. If you have answers to computer problems, pass them forward.

Hi ! W7&W8 have given you the option to create a system repair disc. This is a Linux based program that will get you into the recovery mode and will help you to boot if you can't boot normally. If you can't boot with this system repair disc, there's a good chance that you have hardware problems. Here's a great tutorial showing what you should exspect when you boot with the repair CD. You will need to go into F12 and boot from DVD/CD.http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ss/windows-7-startup-repair_2.htm
This is a great place to start if your not able to boot into Windows. You will have several optitions to try! Some times just a simple restore to a earlier time will get you going again. This can be done with the repair CD. A great tool and seldom used.
    Dokie!!
PS Hi ! After thinking this over. If you can't boot with the repair CD, you could have a corputed OS, which would be much better than hardware problems

  • IPhone 4 stuck in recovery mode - Hardware or software problem?

    Hi
So I just fixed my iPhone 4 screen, and it worked fine, except my vibrator didn't work. Then I opened my iPhone up again and took the vibrator out, and put it in again. Then everything worked fine... Until I updated to IOS 7 (I restored it to factory settings) . What happened was, that my iPhone turned on, and I could use it for about 2 minutes, and then it showed a white and black screen for a sec, and then it turned off. Then it turned itself on again, and after 2 minutes it turned off and so it keept on going. The suddenly it all worked.. Then things started to get really bad. At first it wouldn't charge, then it would only turn on when it was in the charger (I put a new battery in and tried a different charger and it didn't make a difference). Then it was in a boot loot, showing the apple logo over and over again, and I tried to recover it by putting it in recovery mode, and now it is stuck. It will still only turn on when in the charger, and it will only show the "plug it into iTunes" screen. I didn't have any SHSH blops (or whatever they are called). When I plug it into the computer iTunes do recognize it, and it ask me if I want to recover, and I press yes. Then it starts to unpak files, but then error code 21 pops up (I have tried this on two different computers). I have really tried many things to make it work again, but I can't finde anyone who has the exact same problem as me. I have no garranty or anything, it is an old iPhone 4, so I have to fix it myself.
So my question is if it is a hardware, software, firmware problem or whatever it could be?
    Thanks in advance

These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See the steps under the heading "Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store." If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.

  • After updating software on IPAD from computer says I have to reset IPAD to factory default and will lose all data???

After updading software on IPAD2 tells me I have to reset to factory default and will lose all data

    Kinda.
Read the following in its entirty before doing anything.
Note that a "Restore" could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Software included in "factory default"

Hi, I just purchased a c655 from someone on eBay and so far it's been a great laptop. The system does still have him listed as the original administrator so I was thinking of restoring the computer to the factory default and start over fresh. Where can I find what is actually included as default software? For example, MS Office 2010 is loaded and I would prefer not losing this if I restore.
    Thanks
    Ken

We need your full model name/number, there's a Toshiba label on the bottom of your computer. If yours is not a USA model we also need its part number from said label.
Unless Office 2010 came pre-loaded on your original out-of-the-box setup, you're going to lose it in the Toshiba recovery. But, you can probably still obtain the Office 2010 product key used in your system before doing the recovery.
    Key Finder Programs
But, unless the same Office 2010 version (Student, Professional, etc) is preinstalled on factory default setup, you're probably going to need a set of disks to install it.

  • NOT SHOWING FACTORY INSTALLED SOFTWARES IN " RECOVERY MANAGER "

I'VE TRIED TO REINSTALL SOME SOFTWARE PROGMS BY USING  " RECOVERY MANAGER ".
BUT I DIDNT FIND ANY FACTORY INSTALLED SOFTWARE PROGRAMS.
    PLZ ASSIST ME.
I WILL BE WAITING FOR UR KIND REPLY.
    THANK U SO MUCH.

That is odd - that is, as long as the integrity of the Recovery Manager is intact, I would expect it to work.
    For example,
If you have reinstalled the system using other than the Recovery Manager,
or if you have upgraded the Operating System,
or added / Removed data from the Recovery Partition,
OR if the Recovery Manager is corrupted in some way,
    then
the Recovery Manager will either not work at all, or may at least show inconsistancies.
    ======================================================================================
You might try using a Restore Point to "go back in time" and see if the setting can recover.
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
HP PCs - Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 8)
You can go to your system's website for the current Drivers and Software that are available for your computer.
First, create a place to which you can return in case things do not work as you hope:
    Create a restore point
Install Software and Drivers from HP Website
Go to the top of the HP forum page to Support and Drivers
If prompted, Enter your Country or Region and
    Enter your Computer Model information,
    Go to Software and Drivers...
Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu...  Scroll down
Select desired Category Software – Solutions >> Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices
NOTE:  Download ONLY the relevant drivers and software for YOUR hardware - note that in the website you might find more than one kind of driver for more than one model of computer -- this is normal, but it does not mean YOUR computer uses all the software offered.
Expand and decide if you need to install that package.
Assure that you download and install only the most recent versions of each driver or program.
Save the appropriate *.exe installation package on your computer
NOTE the name and the location - the *.exe file will likely save to "Downloads “
Install the Software / Driver installation package:  If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package(s) and “double-click” to install, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.
NOTE:  There is sometimes a lot of information at the computer’s website.  Take a look at what’s available and bookmark the page for later reference.

  • How to create recovery disc that have factory default in H320?

Hi I just bought a ideacentre H320. I want to prepare recovery discs, but when I do so, I am only given the option to backup the "current system". I did not see option in such as "Factory Default Recovery Disc" as I see in OneKey Recovery 7.0 (Mine only come with something similar called "Lenovo Rescue System 3.0".
But I don't want to back up the current system, I want to get the recovery disc to have factory image, so when I restore, it will be like I just open the the new pc from the box. How can I do that? (I know you can achieve the same thing through the "Service partition" but what if the harddisk is corrupted and you lost the partition?)
Is there any way to backup the service partition, so when I do something like upgrade Hard drive, I will not loose the ability to return my pc to factory default? Thanks.

Hi fongpwf and welcome to the community,
In figure 14, it says "Create a bootable recovery disc from system backup or factory default image file."
Are you saying that if you click the button to create the recovery discs that it only gives you the option of creating it from the system backup?
