Stupid cookie question

Hey, I have a question about using cookies with JSPs. I am trying to send a cookie to another server on the same domain, but for whatever reason, I can't seem to get it to work
I create the cookie like this:
Cookie c = new Cookie(name, value);
c.setMaxAge(1000);
c.setPath("/");
c.setDomain(".mydomain.com.mx");
response.addCookie(c);When I then forward to a test page on my server, and I can see the cookie, but the domain comes out null.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

What do you mean the domain is null? You mean you find the cookie in the page you want to read it in by name, but calling getDomain() returns null?
That's probably cuz, as far as I know, the domain isn't set going the other direction because that info isn't in the request. Just the name/value pair.

  • Session cookie question?

This is a really stupid question but i need the answer lol is a session cookie and a session the same thing? if not whats different and which is better to use to see if a user is logged on my site?

A "session" is stored in memory on the server and is bound to a specific "sessionId". The sessionId is stored in a cookie by default. When the browser submits the cookie the webserver can use that value to link an existing session to that client.

  • IMovie and iDVD, Stupid Upgrade Questions, Sorry Must Ask

Okay, the deal is I have a PowerMac G4 Version 2.1 with a Combo Drive. I am upgrading to Mac OSX 3.0 so I can do certain things in iMovie and acquire a better browser. (My constraints on the iMovie project about which I've been inquiring are that at least 40 people have been waiting for copies of it for about a month and wondering why I don't come through with it--I sent a lengthy explanation to the guy who'll be duplicating it in case anyone asks. That's one reason I'm in such a hurry I have to ask urgent questions at forums and newsgroups and don't take the time to read every word ever written on every one of these systems and their various applications, abilities, and uses.)
I started out thinking I was about one step from having a completed project and the more I learn, the more grim the situation looks. Yet I've done ALL THIS WORK already to create beautiful titles and elaborately-edited outtakes. I HATE to ditch it all if any faint hope flickers into sight!
My Mac came with the following:
iMovie 3.0.3 -- which seems to be working fine, only problem is, due to deficiencies in other equipment, I'm having trouble getting my movie to DVD or into any other form where it can be played anywhere outside the Mac!
iDVD 2.1 -- My feeble brain, inadequate as it may be, has so far gathered the information that to go to DVD, a project can't be played in iMovie and sent straight to a DVD burner (can it?) There has to be some intermediary step. (Right?) People have argued the various merits of iDVD vs. Toast to accomplish this step. I hadn't opened my copy of iDVD because I am in no way near the point of being ready to make a DVD--I have not yet finished editing the project in iMovie. I made the hideous error of ASSUMING that since this came installed in my Mac, it would work fine when needed, just as iMovie did. When I tried to open it just to see what version I had, it wouldn't open and told me this:
    System Requirements
iDVD 2 requires a PowerMac G4 computer with 256 Megs of RAM, a built-in DVD-R Superdrive and Mac OS 10.1.3 or later.
Stupid redundant bonus question #1: WHY would this come installed on a Mac which lacks the hardware to use it? (iMovie could still be used to edit, and then copy projects--if I had a digital video camera--which I don't. The only other way we've figured is to send it back through the Canopus ADVC110 converter I used to get the video in there, and play it out to a VCR--a cumbersome process I've been assured will result in crummy quality.)
Okay, here are the REAL questions:
    1. I don't suppose there's any way the Canopus could be connected to the DVD burner and the information sent to a DVD that way? Just asking.
    2. Obviously the upgrade isn't going to fix things to make iDVD work, as I'm already using Mac OSX 10.2.8, so I would assume its discontent stems from not having the Superdrive--at least, it was complaining something about inadequate hardware and I think that's what it meant. Will connecting a DVD burner via FireWire convince iDVD to work (either automatically or after some sort of tweaking), or am I stuck replacing the drive? I bought a DVD burner the minute I realized my drive was a Combo Drive and not a Superdrive (which is the first time I stuck a blank DVD in it and nothing happened) before learning details about this intermediary step and that there is more than one way to accomplish it.
    3. Is it even worth replacing the Combo Drive with a Superdrive or is it more worth buying a whole new Mac? If I am FORCED to buy a new Mac, what should I do with the old one? (Not only am I ethically opposed to tossing a perfectly good piece of electronic equipment into the ravine, I might get fined for littering. Can a good home be found for it? For that matter it would be a pain as I've saved all sorts of stuff to the Hard Drive which would have to be transferred to the new one before I could get rid of the old one. So can I keep the old one...PLEASE?)
    4. After making the system upgrade, will I be able to bypass iDVD entirely by using Toast, or does Toast also have all sorts of requirements my hardware does not possess so I'll still be SOL, stuck replacing drives or even the whole Mac, or going directly to crummy-quality VHS as there is NO OTHER WAY OUT?
    5. After making the system upgrade, would I be ready for more advanced versions of iMovie and iDVD? Are any upgrades free, or does every improvement cost? Do I get them all at the Apple site, order some of them from some supplier or other the way I did with the Mac OSX upgrade, or what?
Thanks for helping to clear up my massive confusion!!!

Wow, thanks. It's good to know iDVD is still an option, even if I don't buy the Superdrive (is that even possible, to get the Combo Drive taken out of my current Mac and a Superdrive put in? There's a question still unanswered.)
(I think this is good to know--because part of my reasoning in asking the question was to eliminate one option or the other, and now I'm ending up with options of options, but hold on for Part 2 as I do have some questions concerning the capabilities of iDVD and Toast.)
Partly answering one of my own questions (although I'd appreciate confirmation from someone who actually knows,) if these Toast 7 requirements mean what I think they do, I don't see anywhere that it says the computer MUST have a Superdrive and CAN'T use an external DVD burner!
    Toast 7 Titanium
    Requirements:
    * PowerPC G4 processor or faster (G5 recommended for viewing DivX files on your Mac)
    * PowerPC G3 processor and Mac OS 10.2 users, see Toast 6 Titanium or Popcorn
    * Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later
    * 300 MB of free disk space to install
    * Up to 15 GB of temporary free disk space during usage
    * QuickTime 7 or later
    * CD or DVD burner and recordable media
If this is true (that I can use an external DVD burner) I like Toast already! My Quicktime Player is only version 6.5.2--is it going to be difficult, expensive, or both, to upgrade that? If it is or the other System Requirements are not met I can just go with Toast 6.
As far as those requirements, I promise you I don't understand a word of it but here is what my System Profiler says my Mac has. Maybe someone can make sense of it and help me decide which version of Toast to get or, if not, what to do:

One thing which may really sway me in favor of Toast is, will it make possible burning 2-hour DVDs? Supposedly iDVD will not enable anything longer than 90 minutes, and when I get to the other big project for which I really want to use the Canopus ADVC 110 converter, that is, converting my home movies from either VHS or 8mm video camera tape to DVD--well, ALL of my tapes are two hours long, because that's the way they come!! I don't see being limited to making 90-minute DVDs as anything but another GIANT PAIN of which I'm already amply supplied! So if Toast will fix this dilemma I'm ALL FOR IT!
As always, thanks for help and advice.

  • Total Mac Virgin with a stupid, simple question:

There are no stupin questions, just stupid people, so here it goes. I'm trying to post an image on MySpace from iPhoto. I rotated it 90 degrees and it looks right in iPhoto, but when I upload it, it's ****-eyed. Someone please help. I'm a GenX'er but I feel like a geezer having to ask for help.

    Hi, fellow GenX'er.
A couple of things could cause this. First, in which application did you rotate the image? Some apps, like Preview, don't change the source file, but rather tag the image for display. So when you export you see it unrotated. Rotating in iPhoto does create a rotated file which will look correct when exported. As long as you haven't done it in Preview prior to import, that is.
That get us to the 2nd possibility. How did you access the file when uploading? If you went through the iPhoto library files, you may have taken the wrong file. The Original may be unrotated, the Data too small... the edited version is in the Modified folder. Instead of grabbing from the library, it is recommended that you select the image in iPhoto and File > Export > File Export to a folder on your desktop, then upload from there (trash the desktop copy when done). This ensures that you are choosing the correct, full-sized, edited image. When exporting you also have the option to resize for a more web-appropriate file.

  • Stupid security question answers.

I have read the "Rescue email and reset Apple ID security questions" article so many times and also added new rescue emails to my account, but I still can't change the security question answers. I have money on my account that just sits there. I have tried a few months ago and since then i still can't do anything but download free stuff. I have recieved no email about reseting anything and would like to get a better answer then the stupid apple one.

A rescue email address is not the same thing as an alternate email address - they are different settings/addresses, and a rescue email address can only be added by answering 2 of your security questions. If you didnt already have a rescue email address set up on your account then see if the instructions on this user tip helps younger the questions reset : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551

    How to spell "arch"?
I look at the logo and it looks like an arc, so I thought it colud be [ark]. But it seems more seasonable to me to say [arch] as a regular word, moreover I've heared someone sayng it that way.
Which is the correct one? Thank you

oh, and i suppose you pronounce it the way it's written, so that's arch, not ark

  • Stupid Gamepad Question

This proably seems like a stupid question but I am told you can use a PS3 Controller with my 2009 MBP, and I am also told that you can use a wired XBOX 360 controller or wireless if you have a reciever and the correct drivers, but XBOX uses IR when PS3 use bluetooth, so PS3 would work but so should the XBOX because my MBP has an IR reciever?
(If that makes no sense: can I use my WIRELESS XBOX contoller WITHOUT the reciever but WITH the drivers?

  • Stupid terminal question

    Hi,
I have a stupid question, are terminals bi-directional? That is, can a terminal
do input as well as output? How do I distinguish? If a sub vi has a numeric
INDICATOR wired to a terminal, that makes it an input, but if it is a numeric
control wired to a terminal it is then an output? I need to get data that
was set in a main panel into a sub vi in the diagram, as I said in my last
post, but I cannot seem to do it. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks
    very much

See my post to your previous question.
This input, output, control , indicator, business is confusing for new users.
A terminal (on the connector pane) will be can be *Either* an input or an
output (but not both at the same time). This is determined by what you
    wire to it.
Now here is the tricky part. When you do this on SubVis the terminals
*APPEAR* to be the opposite of what you wire to them. When we talk
about these it is best to refer to the controls / indicators, as sources and
    sinks.
One is the source of data , the other is the sink of the data. The role that the
control or indicator takes depends on where you look at it in the data flow chain.
    Here is a simple example.
VIMain has Sub1 and Sub2 on its diagram.
Sub1 has a control#1, wired to indicator#1. Control#1 is on the left terminal
and indicator#1 is on the right terminal. Sub2 looks exaclty the same, except
the items are named Control#2 and Indicator#2.
I drop these on VImain and wire from the right terminal of Sub1 to the left
    terminal of Sub2.
I set the value of control#1 , and run VIMain. Control#1 sources the value and
    Indicator#1 sinks it.
Since this is tied to Sub2, Indicator#1 immediately *Sources* the value,
    Control#2, sinks it.
Control#2 *Sources* the value and Indicator#2 sinks the value and all Vis stop.
If you always wire Controls to the left hand terminals and Indicators to the Right
    hand terminals
it makes it much easier. Also turning on the help and passing the cursor over a
    subVI will show
you what these terminals are tied to. If the wire goes to the left this is a
control and is the SubVIs *INPUT*
if the wire goes to the right it is tied to an Indicator and is the SubVIs
    *OUTPUT*.
Hope this makes it a little more clear.

  • Cookie question - What you can expect ? URGENT!

    Hi everybody.
    I have a few questions:
    1. Which Ascii values are excluded in Cookies?
when I try to write the zero value ascii , I get the values 128 and 192 instead. Some thing like this also happens with space ascii character.
    2. Can we write in the Cookie file without use the set value method ?
    3. Can I use non imprimibles ascii values in a cookie value?
    Thanks a Lot !!!

    1.
the following are reserved characters and need to be encoded.
    ";", "/", "?", ":", "@", "=" and "&"
the space is also questionable and should be encoded.
look up the term, URL Encoding
you can probably create your own CODEC class using java.net.URLEncoder ?? class
    2. no, dont think so.

  • Probably a stupid display question

I shoot with a canon xh-a1 edit with a mbp 15". What im wondering is if I wanted to edit on a bigger screen then my laptop and do some coloring, would it be stupid to think that using a lcd tv as a display would work? The reason I ask is I could go the apple display route for 1500 or I could take advantage of the extremely low tv prices get an 28" hdtv for 800? I know i'm missing something what would be wrong with going that way? Also I am not a professional and its not for broadcast just for dvd and maybe eventually blueray.

What you need is the Matrox MXO and Dell 2408 monitor (Apple Cinema Displays being discontinued). This gives you the option of both having a larger display for when you edit, and a color accurate monitor for viewing your footage and color correction..

  • Probably the mother of all stupid display questions...

I just bought a Gateway 22" widescreen for my PowerMac. Max resolution is 1680 by 1050 which is the default the Mac set it to (DVI connection btw). I was messing around playing UT2004 with this new display. My question is this...would the display or increase in the resolution somehow AFFECT actual gameplay? Specifically I noticed that once in a while, my character will stop moving forward, I have to let off on the key and press it down again to get my character moving again. I only noticed this AFTER upgrading my display, I used to have a Samsung 17" LCD display. BTW, my keyboard is a MIcrosoft Wireless Mac desktop. Like I said, didn't have problems until the display was upgraded. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?
Cliff Notes: upgraded display to 22" Widescreen, Graphics cart is a Radeon X800 XT, try to play UT2004, character stops moving forward intermittently. Didn't have problem before...any relation? Thanks.

There should only be issues if you have also increased the resolution in the game itself (because the graphics chip has to work harder). Are you able to check (or lower) the resolution within the game?

  • Probably a stupid Newb question....chkconfig

    Hi all,
This is a very nice distro, especially if you wanted to learn linux, not just use it with a pretty GUI, and it has met ( sometimes exceeded ) my expectations.
The searching the forums, using google extensively, the wiki have made the experience most worthwhile.  The first distro was mandrake, which lasted about 1 month because I could not learn anything with it.  Anyway on to the question at hand.
What is the Arch linux equivalent of chkconfig?  Or does one have to download the package itself via pacman?
The reason I ask is that I would like to turn off all unneeded services ( I am a bit of a security hound, at least with a windows box ).   The Linux box will just be a workstation for myself, to do email, web surfing, maybe some online buying and eventually development.   No remote access to the machine is needed for myself ( as it is off, when I am not using it ).
Hopefully, I phrased the question correctly!
    Thanks,
    BobL

Thanks for the follow up Phrakture.   However, I did not quite follow when you said that chkconfig is a wrapper for make calls.   I thought it merely listed running services.   I did check on the make command and I cannot find how chkconfig even relates to what you mentioned.   Then again the article was mentioned in the context of a RedHat article.  So perhaps I am switching terms between different distrubutions....probably not a good idea.
I do know what "wrapping" is...with the programming background I have, I just didn't follow your context.

If I understand your question, your "friend" wants to install it on a non-Mac Intel chipped box. It can't be done without violating the EULA agreement and it can't be done without a long series of hacks. Violating the EULA will result in Steve Jobs taking your first born child, the hacks will result in a Frankenmac.
