Styling a single webpart in SP

How can I accomplish something like the newsfeed/social example in the link.
http://blog.creative-sharepoint.com/2013/06/5-features-for-your-sharepoint-2013-intranet-homepage/
I would like to style only one webpart, not all on a page. I've read something about giving the webpart an CssClass property or using JQuery to accomplish this, but then again I'm kind of new to this, and would really like some guidance.

You can use custom CSS file with custom property to style your webpart, here are some references to start with -
http://www.heathersolomon.com/blog/articles/controlling-single-web-parts-with-css.aspx
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/hh537935(v=office.14).aspx
http://www.codeproject.com/Tips/493775/Apply-CSS-styles-to-SharePoint-Web-parts
The trick is to use IE/FireFox/Chrome developer tools to get the references of the webpart styles and create your own based on it.
Hope this helps!

  • How to style a GridPane Colomn or row using CSS ?

    Hi,
    I would like to style a Grid pane column using CSS. I found possible styling the entire GridPane using " -fx-border-color:yellow; -fx-border-insets:5; -fx-border-width:3;" for example. But is there a way of styling a single row or a single column?
    For example, let's say I want a yellow border on my last column, does anyone has a clue ?
    Thanks.

    CSS doesn't do such things.

  • WebPart drop down values working fine on PostBack in Dev. Environment (Single Machine) not in Farm

    We have three drop downs (ddlRotation, ddlOnCallType and ddlHospital) in our webpart. All values are being populated dynamically. One from list (ddlHospital) and other from tool part properties. For dropdown populated from list, we are storing values  in
    View State.
    WebPart is working fine in development environment (single  machine) while on production ( 1 front end, 1 index and 1 db server), drop down values disappear after post back. Below is the code.
    protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
    try
    if (!Page.IsPostBack)
    LoadData();
    if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(webPart._rotationDetail))
    ddlRotation.Items.Add(new ListItem("All", "0"));
    int i = 1;
    string[] strRotationDetail = webPart._rotationDetail.Split(':');
    foreach (string str in strRotationDetail)
    ddlRotation.Items.Add(new ListItem(str, i.ToString()));
    i++;
    if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(webPart._onCallTypes))
    ddlOnCallType.Items.Add(new ListItem("All", "0"));
    int j = 1;
    string[] strOnCallTypes = webPart._onCallTypes.Split(':');
    foreach (string str in strOnCallTypes)
    ddlOnCallType.Items.Add(new ListItem(str, j.ToString()));
    j++;
    catch (Exception ex)
    private void LoadData()
    SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate()
    using (SPSite spSite = new SPSite("SITE_URL"))
    using (SPWeb spWeb = spSite.OpenWeb())
    SPList oList = spWeb.Lists[webPart.destListName];
    SPListItemCollection setuplistItems = oList.Items;
    if (setuplistItems != null && setuplistItems.Count > 0)
    DataTable dtSetupData = setuplistItems.GetDataTable();
    if (ViewState["SetupData"] != null)
    ViewState.Remove("SetupData");
    ViewState.Add("SetupData", dtSetupData);
    else
    ViewState.Add("SetupData", dtSetupData);
    LoadHospitalCombo();
    dateControl.SelectedDate = DateTime.Now;
    else
    // some error message
    private void LoadHospitalCombo()
    if (ViewState["SetupData"] != null)
    DataTable dt = (DataTable)ViewState["SetupData"];
    DataView dv = dt.DefaultView;
    ddlHospital.Items.Clear();
    ddlHospital.DataTextField = "TITLE";
    ddlHospital.DataValueField = "TITLE";
    ddlHospital.DataSource = dv.ToTable(true, "TITLE");
    ddlHospital.DataBind();
    ddlHospital.Items.Insert(0, "All");
    Any help?

    Running your code in try/catch and doing nothing on exception, is not a good idea. Please try to put logging in your code as I believe your code is throwing exception. It's difficult to say seeing such a code what's wrong. Maybe the list doesn't exist or
    exists with different name/title, or viewstate is disabled or webpart properties are not populated... there's so many possibilities. Also if possible refactor your code as shown below:
    //Your Code, you are loading all items from database and then counting it
    SPListItemCollection setuplistItems = oList.Items;
    if (setuplistItems != null && setuplistItems.Count > 0)
    //Refactored Code
    if (oList.ItemCount > 0)

  • Customize XSLT List View Webpart Styling

    Hello, everyone. I think I know the answer to this, but I'm at wits end so I figured I'd turn to the forums (first time).
    I'm a SP Power User with some minimal coding experience. I know CSS, HTML, some JS, some JQuery. My question, however, involves the XSLTListViewWebPart and customizing the style. Is there anyway to customize the CSS for a specific web part on a page? The
    page I'm using has several web parts, and they were all created prior to the SPD 2013 changeover which removed the WYSIWYG. Now I'm trying to add a new set of web parts and audience target them, but I'm unable to recreate the CSS styling (no matter what class
    I change or style attribute I apply, nothing happens).
    My question is
    For this OOTB ListViewWebPart, do you have to customize the styling using XSL? I know very little about XSL, so if this is the case, does anyone have any suggestions about resources to learn how to create an XSL style sheet? If not, how can I find what classes
    I need to change to affect things like font-size, font-weight, etc, in both the column titles and the list data itself.
    I've already attempted creating a custom nightandday.css, and editing the .ms-vh, .ms-vh2, .ms-vb, .ms-vb2, etc. Nothing seems to work.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Displaying page contents (including webparts) on aggregation page

    CASE: Publisher can dynamically create pages in document library. Single page can have webparts embedded inside body text field. We have archive page which should aggregate all those pages and display them one under the other including webparts. In order
    to do it, we have a caml query which takes body of all pages and in user control we are creating html using repeater and eval function. As an output we get rendered just text of each page without webparts. Html output code for a single page with webpart looks
    as follow:
    <p>body test</p> <div class="ms-rtestate-read ms-rte-wpbox"><div unselectable="on" class="ms-rtestate-notify ms-rtestate-read dd3ab381-9fbc-457c-8eba-3c75ad29f5fd" id="div_dd3ab381-9fbc-457c-8eba-3c75ad29f5fd"></div>
    <div unselectable="on" id="vid_dd3ab381-9fbc-457c-8eba-3c75ad29f5fd" style="display:none"></div></div> <p><br /></p>
    Q: How to render webparts along with the rest of the (styled) content using a repeater?

    Hi,
    According to your description, you might want to aggregate the content of other pages into one page.
    Other than using Repeater, a workaround I would more recommended is that you can use the OOTB web part “Page Viewer Web Part” which can help to get the content of
    other pages easily.

  • Help needed with referencing single Excel cells and formatting resulting text

    In InDesign CS5 I am putting together a 20pp catalogue of about 200 products. The plan is to have the product information, SKU code, quantity etc fixed, but have the prices (there are two i.e. pack price and individual price) being linked to an Excel spreadsheet. This is so that the prices can be updated in the Excel file and the InDesign file will pull the new prices through. In case you are wondering why I don't pull the whole set of information through, this is because there are a lot of copywriting changes done to the information once it's in InDesign - it's only going to be the prices that will be updated.
    I am planning on having two single cell tables in their own text frame, duly formatted with cell style, table style and paragraph style for the two price variables. This I am then going to have to repeat 200 times making sure I link to the next row down in Excel. This is going to be a hideous task but I see know way of modifying the cell in InDesign to point it to the next row in Excel. That's my first problem.
    My second problem is this. In the Excel sheet, the prices are formatted as UK currency and are therefore like this...
    £2.00
    £0.40
    £1.43
    £9.99
    £0.99
    £0.09
    What I will require is once I import that data (and refresh the data via a newly saved Excel file) is that the prices end up like this...
    £2.00
    40p
    £1.43
    £9.99
    99p
    9p
    So if the value is lower than £1.00 it needs a trailing 'p' added  and the leading zero and '£' sign stripped off. If the value is lower than £0.10 it also needs the zero after the decimal point stripping off.
    Then formatting wise, the '£' sign needs to be superscripted and the same for the 'p'. This I am assuming could be done via GREP?
    In summary, can anyone help with the first task of referecing the Excel cells on a cell by cell basis, given that it is the same cell column each time, but the next row down, and also point me in the right direction of the price formattting issues.
    Any help will be gratefully received.

    I would do this:
    Create on line with the formatting.
    Export as InDesign tagged text (TXT)
    Read out these tags
    In Excel exists a function to connect text from several cells and predfined text, there connect the content from cells with the paragraph styling tags. Do it in a seperate sheet. (Better would be to use a database like Access, there you can link your Excel sheet).
    Export this sheet as txt file
    Place this sheet as tagged text (there is an option in one of the sialog boxes).
    In preferences  < file handling you can specify that Tablecalculation Sheets and text is not embedded but linked, turn it on.

  • View containing custom column works in SharePoint 2010 but crashes webpart in SharePoint 2013

    First off.. I am using SP FOUNDATION.  Secondly, I'm linking a contact library from a parent site to a view on a sub site. This works in SP 2010 but when I tried to duplicate it in our new SP 2013 site, it doesn't.
    Reproduce steps to add Parent Contact Picks to Blog Sub-Site in SP 2010 (Foundation)
    In parent site, create a contact list (add some people)
    In parent site à Site Settings
    à Site Columns … create a new Column of type “Lookup”.
    Set the Information Source to the Contact List in step 1 with its Column = “Last Name (linked to item)”
    Create a BLOG sub site
    BlogSite à Site Settings
    à Site Libraries and Lists
    à Posts
    à Add from existing site columns …. Select the Lookup column you created in step 2.
    BlogSite à Site Settings
    à Site Libraries and Lists
    à Posts
    à Create View à Standard View….Create a new view and select ONLY the lookup column from step 4.
    Add a new Blog post and while in the ‘New-Item’ form, make sure to select a person from the Contact list.
    Open up the details page of the new post so that only the single post shows. Edit the Page and Insert a New Web Part
    à Lists and Libraries
    à Posts.
    Edit the newly added web part and change its view to the one created above in step 5.
    Drop the down arrow to the right of the newly added web part’s title and select Connections
    à Get Filtered values From
    à Post [1] (or whatever the default Post Web part is called). Set both the “Provider” and the “Consumer” field names to “ID”.
    You will now see that whenever you open the “Details” page of any blog post, you will see the Main post (aka the original form), the normal “Add Comment” entry web part, AND
    the new web part that show the Contact selection specific to that single post. Clicking on the Name of the contact will actually pop up the details from the parent site.
    SharePoint 2013 (Foundation)
    Now perform the exact same steps in SharePoint 2013. However you’ll notice that Step 8 above appears to work but as soon as you try and edit that web part again or move on to step 9, the newly added web part states “Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot
    the problem….. Correlation ID: 52d36c9c-e7a2-509e-1d60-3df1ce53ce2d”.
    Followup: In doing some testing I determined the following..
    1 - If I adjust step #5 as to NOT select the new linked column.. it works. Oddly however, the new view works when are you just using the view by itself (/site/lists/Posts/NewViewname.aspx).
    2 - I can fix the crash by enabling the 'Server Render' option on the WebPart. This actually now shows my information however the linked field is no longer a link.
    3 - As long as it's not a Lookup type column, I can follow the same process and do not need the Server Render option. Of course these other types are not live links.
    Seems like a bug to me.

    I set "Breakline" hidden because I don't want to show this in create new item form.
    I realized that may be the reason. So changed the column to Optional in CT and created a new calendar using that CT. then at list level CT I changed it to Hidden.  That works.   The column is available for use when modifying view.
    Thanks

  • List View webpart throws "list does not exist" although everything is correct

    Hi,
    I'm experiencing a very strange issue. I've already made some research but no one seems to give a clear answer.
    Scenario :
    Site A (Root site collection)
    -- Site B (Sub site of Site A)
    Site B has a publishing page containing a single List View Web part displaying data from a list of Site A.
    The LVWP (XsltListViewWebPart) correctly works and displays the content of the list. But at the moment that the application pool is recycled, the very first hit on the page will result in an error page :
    "List does not exist.
    The page you selected contains a list that does not exist. It may have been deleted by another user."
    Doing a simple refresh (F5) of the page displays the page correctly and the error will never come again.
    The issue is totally reproducible by performing a recycle of the application pool.
    Properties of the webpart are correctly filled as well, ListName, WebID and ListID.
    Do you have any ideas why is this bahaving like that ?
    Thank you,
    Wes

    Hi Kevin,
    Thanks for the reply. The site is running under HTTP. I did check the HTTP Handler and the permissions are alright.
    Also, the web application is setup with NTLM. The Object Cache SuperUser & Reader are setup in the User Policy.

  • How to delete multiple items in XSLT Dataview webpart

    Hi,
       I am creating a combined view based on 3 lists with common column like (number) with merge option and now I have added a delete button on top and my requirement is to delete multiple items on selection in combined view using linked data
    source and for single item I am able to delete but I am unable to get the data from number field on multiple selection. deletion is performing in 3 lists based on number column value.
                   Kindly give me any better procedures than this for deletion of multiple item on selection.
    Thanks
    Razvi444

    Hi  Razvi444,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to delete multiple items in XSLT Dataview webpart on button click.
    For achieving your demand, you can refer to the blog:

  • Displaying Document Name With The Summary in a Single Column Using Document Library View.

    Hi All,
    I have a question that relates to SharePoint Document Library Views. I want to view the Documents name with the summary in a single column. Below image shows an example of it. I need this within a SharePoint Document Library. Also I want the height of the
    row to be increased more than the default height. I cannot figure it out how to do that? Could you someone help me to do this. I have inserted the Document Library as an App Part to the page.
    So could you someone help me to solve this matter?
    Thanks and regards,
    Chiranthaka

    HI Chiranthaka,
    You can create DataView webpart using SPD and then modify the display template according to your need.

  • Creating a new library for Webpart pages, or wiki pages

    We are using sp2013 in O365, on a site collection that is using the publishing feature.
    We want to create another library for content pages where we can create either Webpart pages or Enterprise Wiki pages.  I can create a new library and add the appropriate content types so that those types of pages are options when creating a new page.
    But when I open the library and try to create a page based on the "(Enterprise Wiki Page) Basic Page" page layout (or any other page layout content type that I added to that library), the dialog comes up and shows it will save to the "/pages/"
    library (it is shown in the un-editable part of the "URL Name field"), and not in the new library where I initiated the creation request.  When I click save, I get a correlation ID error.
    Am I doing something wrong here?

    Hi ,
    I could reproduce this issue in my SharePoint 2013 Online when I created a new document library and add “Enterprise Wiki Page” content type into the library then create a page using this content type.
    It seems that publishing pages only can be created in the Pages library. And the SharePoint Publishing Infrastructure can only handle a single Pages library per Web site, it's a physical limitation of the software. If you want to create
    multiple Pages libraries, You could create sub webs to do it.
    Also, as there is a Correlation ID about this issue, you can use it to check more information about this issue. However, in SharePoint Online, we could not see the log files, they are controlled by Microsoft. I suggest you create a new thread on Office
    365, there are some backend engineers who can check the log. You will get better help with SharePoint Online.

  • XSLT and XML - Splitting out address data for a single XML item?

    Hi,
    I am currently having to change my XSLT code for processing XML feeds from the NHS because the technolgy has been moved from SOAP-based to RESTful (both of which mean very little to me!).  While most of the XML feeds display correctly I have been unable to resolve the following:
    The address data seems to be located under a single item <s.addressLine> rather than <address1>, <address2> <address3> <address4> as in the previous setup.  As a consequence of this I am unable to split out my address data into seperate address fields (in column 2 below).  The code below ....
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" xmlns:s="http://syndication.nhschoices.nhs.uk/services">

    But in my servlet, I already have the transformer factory defined as follows
    public class JDOMServlet extends HttpServlet {
         private TransformerFactory tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
         private ResultSet rs = null;
         private StreamSource xsltSource;
         private Templates template;
         public void init(ServletConfig config) throws ServletException {
              super.init(config);
              ServletContext ctx = config.getServletContext();
              try {
                   //Want to cache the stylesheet for future resuse
                   //then it doesnt have to be loaded constantly
                   URL xslURL = ctx.getResource("/WEB-INF/viewStudentDetails.xsl");
                   System.out.println(xslURL);
                   xsltSource = new StreamSource(new java.net.URL(xslURL.toString()).openStream());
                   //xsltSource = new StreamSource(ctx.getResourceAsStream("/Web-inf/viewStudentDetails.xsl"));
                   template = tFactory.newTemplates(xsltSource);
              catch (Exception e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
    I think the key point is that, this transformation servlet worked fine, when all it was outputting was the xml data, styled in a table. As soon as I enter more table info, (i.e. for the banner and navigation bar), the null pointer exception pops up.
    ....a lost and puzzled jase....
    Thanks again.

  • Webpart Connection Doesn't Sort After Edit

    Hello,
    I have two SP task lists, 1st list for project details and 2nd list for project costs (1:Many). When viewing a single item from the project details task list in the Default Display Form, the project costs task list is
    also displayed as a webpart. The project costs webpart is connected to the project details item, and filters only project costs that have the same "Project Name". This works great, but my problem is the project costs list I've turned on inline editing.
    In the same Default Display From, when the user clicks to edit a line item in the project costs list, edits the item, and then clicks save, the page reloads, and all project costs are displayed instead of the filtered project costs list. The changes do not
    save, and the user has to scroll down the list to find the project cost line item still in edit mode. If the edits are repeated and save is once again clicked on the project costs list, the project cost line item is updated, and the project costs list is filtered
    correctly as intended.
    Can anyone help me correct or understand the issue: When making edits to a task list item using inline editing on a connected and filtered webpart, the list doesn't save edits to the webpart list and maintain its connected filter? Thank you for any guidance
    you can provide.

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that webpart connection doesn't sort after you edit the related list.
    Per my knowledge, it will send the value to connected web part when page loads in the display form.
    If you edit the item inlien, it will not refresh the page, so it cannot send the value again.
    I recommend that you can use the “Insert Related List” option in the display form.

  • SharePoint 2013 multiple search boxes on a single page

    How can I have multiple independent search boxes on a single SharePoint 2013 page?  My scenario is this:
    1. Search Box 1 is added to the master page
    2. Search Box 2 is on a dedicated search page along with a search results web part.
    Search Box 1 is the search box from the navigation section in the Snippets Gallery.  It is the smaller SharePoint search box.
    Search Box 2 is a search web part added to a web part zone on the page.  It is also the large SharePoint search box.
    When on the dedicated search page, and a search term is entered into search box 2, the search term is "entered" in both search boxes.  The real issue, which totally breaks the experience, is that the same CSS is applied to both search boxes
    on the page.  So the smaller search box, search box 1, gets the CSS class ".ms-srch-sbLarge" dynamically applied to it.  Additionally, we noticed that the divs wrapping the search boxes both get the ID of "SearchBox1".  I
    have added a before and after image to illustrate the problem.
    5/9/2013 -
    I have some more information to add to this issue.  SearchBox2 is using a display template. The control_searchbox.js file associated with the display template correctly gets SearchBox2's control ID when the page is first rendered.  However, when
    a search term is entered in SearchBox2, rather than preserve the control ID it found on page load, control_searchbox.js  parses the DOM for a TemplateType of "control" and a TargetControlType of "searchbox".  It finds the first
    one it comes to, which is the one in the master page and overwrites SearchBox1 with it's own markup, which is targeted for SearchBox2.
    Microsoft - this would seem to be a bug in SharePoint.  How can we get a fix for this?

    So what you can also do is set the searchBoxScriptWebpart directly in the masterpage with pointer to a displaytemplate. This way you have more control. In the RenderTemplateId attribute you can point to the same displaytemplate or create your own copy with
    customizations.
    <SearchWC:SearchBoxScriptWebPart RenderTemplateId="~sitecollection/_catalogs/masterpage/Display Templates/Search/Control_SearchBox_Compact.js" ID="SearchBoxScriptWebPart1" DefaultDropdownNodeId="1001" UseSiteCollectionSettings="false" EmitStyleReference="false" ShowQuerySuggestions="true" ChromeType="None" UseSharedSettings="true" TryInplaceQuery="false" ServerInitialRender="false" runat="server" __WebPartId="{2243C4B0-F63F-4573-B39E-3A60BA773508}" />
    This worked for me. :)
    This eventually worked for me too.
    I was referencing this webpart from my master page but experienced issues on the search results page as described above. When I set the RenderTemplateId property, it would work some of the time and other times I would get a display error from the webpart
    in my master page.
    I had to make sure that ServerInitialRender was set to
    false. @adilbouhouch already has it set properly in the markup above. I missed it initially and just wanted to point it out in case anyone else gets the same issue.
