SubFlow best practice advice please

I am new to IPCCX scripting and would like some advice on whether multiple SubFlows are a good idea.
We have 16 small Call Centers that all have very basic scripts. I plan on adding a Holiday/Emergency Closure SubFlow to all of them and I would like to add a few additional features as well.
I plan on adding:
·         Position in Queue
·         Expected Wait Time
·         If more than X number of callers in queue, inform the caller that they cannot be helped at this time and to call back later.
·         If Expected Wait Time exceeds closing time, inform the caller that they cannot be helped at this time and to call back later.
(I know the last two sound pretty harsh, but it’s government, and there is no budget to hire more operators. I think it is better to let the callers know early that they need to call back, than to have them wait for two hours just to be disconnected. And no, this is NOT the 911 call center!!!   LOL)
My questions are:
Would it be ok to add each feature as a SubFlow? Or could there possibly be performance or other issues by having so many SubFlows in one script.
My other option is to add each item internal to each script, but that would be a lot to tackle 16 times…
Lastly, is there a best practice on how short a script should be for performance? I know you can’t have one that is longer than 1000 steps, but should I try to keep the step count below a certain number?
Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated…
Thanks,
Doug.

Doug,
Most of the items your list are included natively in UCCX.  Use the Get Reporting Statistic step to obtain the expected wait time, position in queue, and total queue time information. The current time-of-day can be had using a Time variable.  You'll need to do some work to convert the values into something you can play to the calling party as a prompt, a subflow is great for that, but you shouldn't need to reinvent the wheel.
Take the time to draw out the call flow for each of the 16 contact centers on paper or in MS Visio. If your 16 call flows are very similar in the way they operate, consider a master script that just changes the prompts/menus based on the number dialed.  Leverage XML or a database (if you have premium licensing) to pull in the relevant information you need for each DNIS.  You may find you can streamline the entire system, or at least a good portion of it, without it becoming 16 unwieldy applications.

  • Best Practice Advice - Using ARD for Inventorying System Resources Info

    Hello All,
I hope this is the place I can post a question like this. If not please direct me if there is another location for a topic of this nature.
We are in the process of utilizing ARD reporting for all the Macs in our district (3500 +/- a few here and there). I am looking for advice and would like some best practices ideas for a project like this. ANY and ALL advice is welcome. Scheduling reports, utilizing a task server as opposed to the Admin workstation, etc. I figured I could always learn from those with experience rather than trying to reinvent the wheel. Thanks for your time.

hey, i am also intrested in any tips. we are gearing up to use ARD for all of our macs current and future.
i am having a hard time with entering the user/pass for each machine, is there and eaiser way to do so? we dont have nearly as many macs running as you do but its still a pain to do each one over and over. any hints? or am i doing it wrong?

  • Rules Best Practice Advice Required

I find that I'm fighting with the Business Rules in my BPM project, so I'd thought I throw the scenario out here and see what best practices anyone might propose.
    The Example*:
Assume I have people, and each of them is assigned a list/array of "aspects" from an enumerated set: TALL; SPORTY; TALKATIVE; TRAVELER; STUDIOUS; GREGARIOUS; CLAUSTROPHOBIC.
Also assume I have several Marketing campaigns, and as part of one or more processes, I need to occasionally determine whether a person fits the criteria for a particular campaign, which is based on the presence of a one or more aspects. The definitions of the campaigns may change, so the thought is to define them as business rules; if they change, the rule changes, without impacting the processes themselves (assume the set of campaigns doesn't change, just the rules for matching aspects to a particular campaign).
My initial take is to to define each campaign as a bucketset, containing aspects, the presence of which indicates inclusion in the campaign. If a person has ANY of the aspects, they are considered a member.
Campaigns (each perhaps defined as a LOV bucketset):
    DEODORANT: SPORTY, TRAVELER, GREGARIOUS
    E_READER:STUDIOUS,TRAVELER
    BREATH_MINT:TALKATIVE, GREGARIOUS
    HELMET:TALL, CLAUSTROPHOBIC
So we want to create a service to check: Does a person belong to the BREATH_MINT campaign? We extract their aspects and check to see if ANY of them are in the BREATH_MINT campaign. If so, we return true. Basically: return ( intersection( BREATH_MINT.elements(), person.aspects() ) ).size() > 0
The problem is: what's the best way to implement this using Business Rules? Functions? Decision Functions? Decision Tables? Stright IF/THEN? Some combination of the above? I find I'm fighting the tool, which means that, although this is a fairly simple problem, I don't understand the purpose of the various parts of the tool well.
    Things to consider:
Purpose: test a person for inclusion in a specific campaign
Input - the person's aspects, either directly, or extracted from the person
    Output - a boolean
There can be a separate service for each campaign, or it could be specifed by an enumerated value as a parameter.
    Many thanks in advance!

  • Swtich with 2 wireless routers (configuration for best practice/advice?)

    HI folks,
I have a gigabit switch, and 2 wireless G routers.  I'll leave the model numbers out as it's fairly irrelevant - all linksys.
Router 1 is used as a router only (due to location in basement)
Router 2 is used for wireless only
    My current network setup:
DSL MODEM (accessed on 192.168.2.1 - can not be changed) > Router 1(192.168.1.1)
    Router 1 > Switch (i believe it can't be changed 192.168.2.12 - no webgui)
Switch > everything else including Router 2
Everything works except Router 2 - can't connect to it wired or wirelessly until connected directly to a pc.
    Is my setup wrong
and/or is there a best practice?
    Many thanks!!!

What is the model number of the switch?
Normally a switch that cannot be changed does not have an IP address.  So if your switch has an address (you said it was 192.168.2.12)  I would assume that it can be changed and that it must support either a gui or have some way to set or reset the switch.
Since Router1 is using the 192.168.1.x  subnet , then the switch would need to have a 192.168.1.x  address (assuming that it even has an IP address), otherwise Router1 will not be able to access the switch.
I would suggest that initially, you setup your two routers without the switch, and make sure they are working properly, then add the switch.  Normally you should not need to change any settings in your routers when you add the switch.
To setup your two routers, see my post at this URL:

  • MySQL custom build from sources best practices advices

    Hi,
These days I'm setting up something that could be called a home server, basically a web server with DB support.
Of course it's based on Arch Linux (probably not the best choice while everyone around is speaking about CentOS, RHLE, Debian, etc as server-oriented linuxes, anyway I hope Arch is not worse).
Every application I need is available in packages, but the idea is to build every app to a custom and better organized location.
    I'm not a fan of the applications' distribuition in  /bin  /sbin  /lib  /var  /etc ...
I embrace the philosophy of "one application in one place" with a structure similar to
    /appdir
    |---/app1
    |---/bin
    |---/lib
    |---/conf
    |---/docs
    |---/logs
    |---/tmp
that's why I would like to build all my applications using the same pattern.
Now I want to build the MySQL database server, but the process it's not straightforward like for other applications.
I use the following configure inspired from --help, MySQL docs and PKGBUILD provided by the Arch mysql package:
    CFLAGS="-fPIC -march=amdfam10 -mtune=amdfam10 -O2 -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing -DBIG_JOINS=1 -fomit-frame-pointer" \
    CXXFLAGS="-fPIC -march=amdfam10 -mtune=amdfam10 -O2 -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing -DBIG_JOINS=1 -felide-constructors -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti" \
    ./configure \
    --sysconfdir=/usr/local/apps/mysql/conf \
    --prefix=/usr/local/apps/mysql \
    --exec-prefix=/usr/local/apps/mysql \
    --sbindir=/usr/local/apps/mysql/sbin \
    --docdir=/usr/local/apps/mysql/docs \
    --mandir=/usr/local/apps/mysql/man \
    --datarootdir=/usr/local/apps/mysql/share \
    --libexecdir=/usr/local/apps/mysql/sbin \
    --localstatedir=/usr/local/apps/mysql/data \
    --with-mysqld-ldflags=-all-static \
    --with-zlib-dir=bundled \
    --enable-assembler \
    --without-debug \
    --without-docs \
    --without-readline \
    --with-mysqld-user=mysql \
    --with-libwrap \
    --with-charset=utf8 \
    --with-collation=utf8_general_ci \
    --with-extra-charsets=binary,ascii,cp1250,cp1251,koi8r,latin1,latin2,latin5,utf8 \
    --with-embedded-server \
    --with-unix-socket-path=/var/run/mysqld.sock \
    --enable-local-infile \
    --with-plugins=partition,ftexample,blackhole,csv,heap,innobase,innodb_plugin
Could someone with a deeper understanding of the process to give me some advices about optimization, plugins, etc, please?
I want to build a fast server without unnecessary stuff.
Some questions are about paths and directories:
    1) is it possible to get the pattern described above without having paths like  mysql/mysql/..., mysql/lib/mysql/<files>, mysql/include/mysql/<files>  but  mysql/lib/<files>, etc  ?
    2) is it OK to delete  mysql-test  and  sql-bench  directories if I don't need them ?

That *has* to depend on the specific wifi driver because I have iwlwifi-1000 built into my kernel as we speak and it loads the firmware fine.
As far as i915 and modesetting goes, I had the exact same issues.  It turned out in my case another driver was stealing control before the intel kms one could grab it (maybe FB_VESA?).  Anyways, here's the relevant part of my kernel config that does work with i915 kms built-in:

  • Best Practice Advice for Xcelsius Beginner

    Hello, all -
This is my first post to the community. Please forgive my naivety. : )
I've read about half of the 400 page Xcelsius manual, and am still confused about using individual cells to comprise a series. My client has a ready-made Excel spreadsheet generated from Crystal Reports that I am using within Xcelsius Engage.
Specifically, I am trying to build an easily reusable Xcelsius document that does not require the spreadsheet to be changed (additional functions/formulas). I would like my client's admin to be able to just copy and paste the data into Xcelsius and publish.
But when I try to use 3 separate calls to comprise the values of a series (to calculate total revenue), the text box in my line chart properties doesn't display my selection. My question boils down to this: Is it best to custom design a spreadsheet (and require my client to invest additional human resources), or is it best to strive for advanced Xcelsius programming and just use a ready-made spreadsheet?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you for the prompt response. But what I am wondering is if I should ask the client to design a new report format to easily integrate with Xcelsius, or try to work with the client's ready-made (designed for a different purpose) spreadsheet, and through advanced Xcelsius programming (multiple series, insertions, etc.), manipulate it to do what I need it to.
Specifically, what I have been given by the client is a spreadsheet broken out by month, that on each month page there are 3 cells that correspond to different sources of revenue. In a perfect world, I would change the spreadsheet design to calculate a total for each month, so I could use the monthly totals in a simple line chart. What I am wondering is am I asking for an unnecessary amount of hassle trying to do this through multiple series, insertions, etc., and should I just ask the client to create a new report format.
Additionally, can someone tell me if it is even possible to pull values (in the case described above, monthly totals) from different pages to comprise a series?
    Thanks!

  • Looking for best practices advice

    Hi all !!
We are planning to migrate an old application and are evaluating products, tools and frameworks. I've just finished the Netbeans tutorial at
    http://www.netbeans.org/kb/55/vwp-inserts_updates_deletes.html
The application is not too complex but it's not trivial either, and we need to develop it as a web application, but in its behavior it's more like a classic desktop application.
In the tutorial the CRUD operations are performed by data providers associated to visual components like tables, but we need to manipulate data by program.
So after finishing the tutorial I've created some entity beans with Hibernate and now I'm trying to use them within the sample tutorial. For example a "Process" button which extract data from many tables an insert into others.
I'm sure it will work, but I feel that I'm not using the proper techniques, like avoiding so much behavior in a button event handler. I would like to separate in tiers, have the SQL in stored procedures, etc.
Even the turorial has SQL code embedded in the data providers.
What would you advice me in order to get most clean code, productivity and maintanibility ??
    Thanks and cheers,
    Daniel

I've found this all answered in the Netbeans nbusers mailing list archives, basically it says Web and Visual Web Applications are different kind of projects as of yet, but will be completely merged in a near future, hopefully the upcoming NB 6 due approx. May this year.
For anyone interested in this issue I advice to search the nbusers archive for the keywords "visual web persistence" (without the quotes).
Also I acknowledge that the netbeans mailing list archives are a best place to ask this kind of questions that tis forum.
    Cheers,

  • Best Practices/Advice on deploying .exe setups

We have a couple applications (office, mcafee) that need to be deployed thru .exe. We also have some MSI applications. The msi's work great as Windows can control and know when they are done. What is anyone's advice on making .exe setups run and stopping other zen bundles from starting before that setup is complete?

For such cases, you may need to get a little tricky and use VBS or
another scripting tool (Autoit) that would be launched by ZCM to call
the wrapper app and then also monitor the chained app.
A "Monitor Modules" feature as existed in ZDM7 would really help.
If anyone is actually struggling with "Wrappers", just let me know and I
can whip up a tool to help. I used to have one I even used in ZDM7
since even monitor modules did not always help.

  • Loading Snow Leopard, Best Practices Advice

Currently w/Leopard on all machines, with Adobe CS5 and (cocoa) 64 bit, I'll soon need to move to SL -- It does make me nervous though as things are going relatively well with the current OS and one of my machines is in a production environment. I do have multiple volumes on each MP and will start with the "less critical" ones of course.
Is erase and install the best method or can I install over Leopard and still have the similar results as if I had loaded it on a cleanly formatted volume? Other caveats?
    TIA,
    Geoff

If you have various critical applications that are currently working, another option would be to create another partition and install a new copy of Snow Leopard there. Then you can move things over gradually, and if something doesn't work, you can just boot into the Leopard partition - the best of both worlds (I am currently running my MBP this way, although I don't run that many third party apps).

  • .CHM Context Sensitive Help  - Any Best Practice advice?

    Hi,
Using RH9 and generating .CHM as the output.
I need to create context sensitive help that will work at screen level only. The project has around 600 help topics.  I know i can autogenerate the MAP file using RH and pass this to development for them to plumb into the system which seems the quickest way. I know I could also manually map the 200 or so topics that refer to each screen in the application but that will take much longer (but will reduce the size of map file).
This is for a version of the help that has already changed i.e, I am now working on another version of the help so there are changes including new  topics being added, some removed or renamed etc.
Is it ok to autogenerate on the first build, then import this map file into new updated project?. Any pitfalls I should be aware of before starting or not?
    Generally what is others experience?
    PDF Boy.

    Hi, glad I could help.
There are certain javascript calls which will close the window automatically when focus is shifted somewhere else, but there are gotchas. You will notice Yahoo and some airline sites that have popup calendars face the same problem.
Not all browsers (or older versions) observe those newer calls dependably. So we are stuck with asking the user to close them.  If I understand what you want, you could enable the Show button. This would show the Navigation pane and the rest of the topics so your user could proceed deeper. Still, they will have to close the window! Alternatively you could manually put link "arrows" in the top right of the topic and let them navigate to whatever topic you choose. But, that's time consuming and even this trick is not accessed by F1, so I'm reaching here .
What we really need is a browse sequence button that can be placed in the topic itself rather than those dinky arrows in the Navigation pane. I have requested this feature and maybe you could add your request here https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=38

  • Looking for best practice advice.

    Hi,
I am new to BPEL and have developed an application with ADF in JDEV 10.1.3.2 with business components. Part of the requirements is that I must send an email message reminder daily based on the results of a ViewObject query. I wrote a java app to do this and it works fine. I am now told I should use BPEL to send this message, not my java app.
I tried a simple test of using a Wait and Email activity within a While in a new BPEL process and then invoked the Email from the BPEL Console. It failed, with the error "notificationservicebean not found in activitymanagerbean" and I've opened an SR about this.
However, when searching the forums, Google, etc. I saw very little talk of using BPEL to handle the email. Is this not commonly done? Have others had experience with it that can be shared here? Since this is our first J2EE application, I'd like to get us off on the right path.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ginni

Well..if you ask me in this way you just miss-use bpel just for sending a simple email, since it's to only orchestration you do.

  • WS application configuration - best practice advice

    Hi there,
I'm a newbie on web services.
I'm currently developing a Web Service using JAX-WS 2.1 and deploying on Tomcat 6.
I'm wondering where to put my application's configuration. If I was developing a standalone java application I would put it in a Java Properties file or perhaps use the Java Preferences API.
But this is not a standalone java application, it is something that runs in a container, in this case Tomcat.
I have a fealing that web.xml is the intended place to put this information but I've also read posts discouraging this. I'm also in the dark as to how to access the information in web.xml (Context parameters section) from within my web service.
Basically I would like to use a solution which is a much standard as possible, i.e. not tied to any specific container.
    Thanks.

I would suggest that initially, you setup your two routers without the switch, and make sure they are working properly, then add the switch.  Normally you should not need to change any settings in your routers when you add the switch.

  • Best practice advice

    Hi,
Lets pretend I have a web page that renders data contained in several java beans. The java beans were filled with data queried from a database. There are several forms on the page that might be posted. These forms will call code that modifies data in the database. The web server then re-fills java beans from the database and then re-renders the web pages using the java beans.
Here is the dilemna I face...
If I keep the java beans stored in the session there are 2 consequences:
    1. I don't have to re-query the server to fill new java bean objects. This helps cut down on the bottle neck to the server.
    2. I've got a lot more data hanging around my session and there is only so much RAM on the server.
If I re-create new java beans each time there are 2 consequences:
    1. I have to re-query the server which ties up the database.
    2. I don't have data in the session that would otherwise tie up RAM.
I am currently using JRun 4.0 as my web server and I might end up using 2-3 different servers running JRun.
Have any practioners been bit in the rear for using either of these techniques?
    Thanks,
    -Bart

I typically go back to the database and avoid caching if I can. As the previous poster says, modern database engines have the data cached and cache hit rates will be high on tables that are often hit. If performance is not acceptable then I consider my own caching. Rolling your own cache is a more complex solution. The main difficulty is knowing when you have to refresh the cache.

    eth5 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 18:03:73:EE:7E:85
I did not see any bond0 or bond 1.
I think oracle recommend privet interconnect to be bonded. We use CTP-BO , so I want to know should I request to bond the interface plus service?
What is the command to test that the interface are setup right?
Thank you for all the response in advance.

Which version are you setting up and what are the requirements? IF you are discussing the use of NIC bonding for high availability beginning in 11.2.0.2 there is a concept of "High Availability IP" of HAIP as discussed in the pre-installation chapters,
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e22489/prelinux.htm, section 2.7.1 Network Hardware Requirements.
In essence, using HAIP eliminates the need to use NIC bonding to provide for redundancy.

  • I'm looking for "best practices" advice for a project setup (Premiere CS5.5, Windows 7 Pro)

I have been tasked with updating an old Corporate video with new music, sounds, graphics and narration.
The ONLY video-camera material I have is from a corporate DVD (NTSC) - the original source material is simply not available. .
I can rip the DVD to MPEG 2  and  import it into Premiere without issue, but would like to be able to use higher-resolutions for the updated graphics.
I plan to export to Youtube (HD) but may well export to DVD or BluRay as well.
My question really narrows down to how to manage Sequences.   I figure that my Sequence settings should be the highest resolution I expect to work with (Youtube HD or Bluray) allowing me to easily export to lower quality, but I don't really know if it's as  simple as that.  Is there an industry standard methodology?  Am I close?

Premiere can actually use .vob files from DVDs, just copy them from DVD to hard drive, then Import into Premiere.
Is the existing DVD video in a 4:3 or 16:9 format? If 4:3, consider how you will work that into a 16:9 program. Rather than having black pillar bars at the sides, many editors will put in some sort of background to fill that space. A popular solution is to duplicate the 4:3 video on a lower track, stretch to fill the screen and add Gaussian Blur effect. Since the colors/content of the side bars will match the main video, it is somewhat disguises the fact that the video is 4:3.
If you put SD footage into an HD program, it is going to look "soft" compared to HD footage. As a compromise, you might consider editing the new program as 720p rather than 1080p, so that the SD resolution is not being stretched as far. All computer video/YouTube video is non-interlaced, meaning editing sequences and exports should be done as Progressive.
Potential workflow issue - if you take the existing SD footage from the DVD, and upscale it into an HD sequence, then export back to DVD (SD resolution), the video is turned to mush. It has been upscaled, then dowscaled again, really kills the quality. Might need to copy the finished HD sequence to an SD sequence, fix any size/scaling issues for graphics and titles, and export DVD from the SD sequence to avoid the upscale/downscale of SD footage. Note that DVD video is highly compressed, so you are already working with a weak source material, recompressing again is going to be a quality hit in any case, but definitely avoid upscale/downscale again.
I don't have Adobe apps in front of me at the moment, but I believe the 720p Blu-ray export options are limited, perhaps 720p at 59.94 only, not certain. That may effect your decision of 1080p versus 720p.
    Hope these tips help
