Submit form with response in new browser window

Is it possible to set up a submit button so that it pops up the response in a separate browser window?  With an HTML form, I can do it using target="_blank", but not aware of any such option on a LiveCycle submit button.
If it can't be done, maybe there's another way to do what I need.  Users complete the data-entry PDF form and submit the data to a servlet, which returns another (different) PDF.  My user may look at this PDF, see a problem, and want to return to the data-entry form to change what he's entered before regenerating the output.  However, by this point my original data-entry PDF is gone.  I am not using LiveCycle on the server.  Any ideas?

Many thanks for your help on this Paul.  I decided to go with the hostContainer approach despite my reservations.  Here's a simplified version of my servlet.  This version simply parrots back the XML in a separate browser window.  I hope this helps someone.

    Load balancing 10g forms - Connection from new browser window not supported
    We're experimenting with using webcache to load balance between multiple applications servers running OC4J forms processes.
    We currently have one machine with infrastructure and mid-tier (BI & Forms) installed, which is being used for the webcache functionality, this is load balancing between 2 other servers each of which just have the mid-tier (BI & Forms) installation
    In order to get this to work, I had to follow the instructions in the Forms deployment guide : http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_11/web.1012/b14032/tuning.htm#sthref707
    The main gist of this is that you need to set the following in the orion-web.xml file in order that the sessions are maintained:
    <session-tracking
    cookies="enabled">
    </session-tracking>
    This all works fine in most cases.
    The problem I am having is if I do one of the following on the client machine:
    1) From IE6 / IE7 run a copy of a forms application. Then open a new window using the "New Window" menu option, and attempt to run another forms application.
    2) In IE7 or Firefox 2.0 open a copy of the forms application, and then open a new tab and try and open another forms application.
    If I try either of these I get a FRM-92101 error, and the following is displayed in the java console:
    oracle.forms.net.ConnectionException: Connection from new browser window not supported
    From trawling various forums (including metalink and otn) it looks like a problem with the way coockies are handled.
    Unfortunately the usual workaround is to ensure that the session tracking option in the orion-web.xml file is disabled.
    The problem is that I need this enabled in order for the load balancing to work.
    Does anyone know of any other workarounds or patches that might help resolve this?
    We're using Application server 10.1.2.0.2 running on windows 2003 servers.

    You were right. Carriage returns were stopping it from working (the document is laid out over separate lines, so I assumed it would make no difference...).
    I've now managed to get it so the forms at least run, but they are all being run in the forms OC4J instance on the same machine as the OHS.
    Has anyone actually managed to get this to work, or am I doing something wrong?
    I did wonder if using an OHS instance on a machine with no forms installation would make any difference?
    I had raised a support call via metalink on this subject, but they eventually came to the conclusion that the only way to do this is with a hardware load balancer (Despite several documents suggesting that webcache is the way to go (including the forms deployment manual)).
    I'm at the point now of giving up and writing some custom scripts to do the job instead...

  • Call form in new browser window

    Hello all,
    I am trying to call a form that will appear in a new browser window, but be part of the same forms application. I am able to call the applet by using web.show_document, however you must log on to the forms services before you can access the form. I would simply like to click a button and have it call a form that opens in a new window. I am doing this for our data entry techs that need to utilize dual monitors looking at 2 separate tables.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Jordan

    Be aware that there are limitations with Forms if you are trying to run the application on the secondary monitor. Known issues related to dual monitors have been corrected in the upcoming patch set for 10.1.2. This patch is due for release soon (exact date unknown). A one-off patch is also available for 9.0.4.3.
    Take a look at this thread for more details:

  • New browser window with javascript

    Hello,
    I'm trying to accomplish something similar to what has been
    discussed in other threads (Jess Learnin, 9/30/2008, and another
    thread from back in '07). I've tried the advice given in these
    threads and have had no luck. I would like to create a button to
    call a new browser window that displays a URL of my choosing. I'd
    like to specify the size and attributes of the new window. I've
    created a small dummy tutorial in order to work on this feature.
    I'm using the "Execute Javascript" option when configuring
    the button. I include the following javascript:
    window.open('
    http://lib.berkeley.edu/BIOS/index.html',
    'myWindow','height=400, width=700, toolbar=no');
    I have the Captivate button context set to "Current". I have
    deselected "Continue Playing Project" (though I've tried it with
    that option selected as well).
    I've tried prefacing the script w/
    "javascript:window.open...", but no luck.
    I'm testing the file on a development server, rather than
    from a local copy. When I test in Firefox, my movie simply stops
    when I click the button, without opening a new window or loading a
    web page. When I test in IE7, the movie stops and I get a message,
    "Error on page"; still no new window.
    I do notice that I'm currently running Flash Player 10. I'm
    using Captivate 3. When I publish my file, my options only go up to
    Flash Player 9, which is what I have chosen. I don't know if this
    would make a difference.
    I have also tried altering the standard.js file in the manner
    that jbradley88 suggested in the 9/30/08 thread, and using the
    corresponding javascript in the button properties window, with
    similar unsuccessful results.
    I have tried running the movie on a different computer, in
    case some local setting was somehow mucking things up. I get
    nothing.
    Any suggestions? If anyone's willing to take a look, I can
    send along my small dummy .cp file that I've been working on.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Kelly

    Hi John,
    Here's the exact javascript that I currently have associated
    with the button:
    void(window.open('
    http://lib.berkeley.edu/BIOS/index.html',
    'myWindow','height=400, width=700, toolbar=no'));
    I've tried multiple permutations, including placing
    "javascript:" in front of the script, both with and without the
    void().
    The message in IE7 just says "Error on page". It's not a
    pop-up message; it's just the small message that appears at the
    bottom left of the browser window in IE7 when a page fails to load
    properly. The message doesn't appear until I click on the button
    that's supposed to call the javascript. There's a yellow
    exclamation point icon that appears next to the "Error on page"
    message. When I click on that I get:
    "Problems with this Web page might prevent it from being
    displayed properly or functioning properly. In the future, you can
    display this message by double-clicking the warning icon displayed
    in the status bar."
    It also displays a pointer to the error:
    Line: 1
    Char: 111
    Error: Syntax error
    Code: 0
    URL:
    http://library11.berkeley.edu/bios/kelly/Practice_demo.htm
    I looked at the source for the page as displayed by IE7 (have
    also looked at the .htm and .js files generated by Captivate) and
    haven't seen anything obvious, but I'm somewhat unschooled in such
    matters.
    If it would help to see what it does, you can view the demo
    at the URL above.
    Thx again,
    Kelly

  • Help with image placement in new browser window.

    I need help trying to position images that are being opened
    in a new browser window. I have created a photo gallery with
    thumbnails that are links to the larger image. Ive used the
    behaviors panel to open the new image in a new browser window but
    the image is always shown at the top left margins of the new
    window. Is there a way to 1. center the image in the new window, 2.
    change the background color of the new window that opens.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Stu

    If, as I read it, you are simply opening the image, it will
    always be upper
    left and cannot be changed. IF you wnat to position it, you
    will need to
    create a new html page and position your image on that page,
    then call the
    page, not the image from your thumbnail link.
    In Dreamweaver in the command menu try the "Create Web Photo
    Album" command.
    It will create all of your pages, links and thumbnails for
    you. (requires
    Fireworks)

  • Open calling form in new browser window

    HI,
    I am using forms 9i. From menu item, i am calling a form using call_form, the called form is opening in same window, my requirement is the called forms want to open in new browser window. I am using mdi window.
    Any idea ?

    If you look in your browser address field, you will see your current forms has a (probably very) long url, one section of which is the form name. Now, you can use this as the URL argument in a WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT() call. However:
    (1) if your URL doesn't include the userid, etc. (very likely in a production situation) you will have to log in again.
    (2) as (1) might lead to suspect, you are in a new database session.
    Why do you want to do this?
    Cheers, APC

  • Spawning new browser windows with jsp

    in a webapp, is there a jsp way to open a new browser window? i'd like to avoid javascript if i can....

    Definetely not. JSP is 100% server-side, it has nothing to do with the client-side (browser). You cannot do anything in the client-side with JSP.
    You will have to use either HTML or JavaScript.

  • Forcing link in one web based PDF to open link to another PDF in new browser window

    We have created a form using LiveCycle Designer ES2.  The form is found on our website and is used by faculty to submit proposal information to our office.  Depending upon the answers to questions in the form if they say yes we had a link to another form that we would like them to complete and submit with the original PDF that they are working on.  The problem that we are having is that when they click on the form it opens the new PDF and all the data that they had entered in the original PDF is gone once the new form opens up.  Is there a way to force the new PDF via the use of some scripting that can go along with the link, or via the use of a button that can force the new form to open in a new browser window?  It is impractical for us to expect 1500 faculty members to change their browser settings to open new PDF's in a new window.  We have removed the links for now and have just put in text that says if they select yes they need to go out and complete the additional form.
    The form we are using can be found here: http://spo.usu.edu/files/uploads/SP-01.pdf
    The first three questions on page two where we reference the other forms is where we would like to be able to add the links to the new forms and have them open in a new browser window.  When the form is downloaded and opened in Adobe Acrobat/Reader the links functioned correctly, it just did not function properly when it opens in a browser.
    Thank you in advance for any assistance you can offer in regards to this issue.

    I used a button, removed the border/fill properties and underlined the caption to look like a URL.
    The click event is...
    // form1.page1.subform1.urlBtn::click - (JavaScript, client)
    app.launchURL("http://spo.usu.edu/files/uploads/SP-01.pdf",true);
    The PDF will open in a new window or tab, depending upon the browser configuration.

  • How to pop up a new browser window to point to an external site

    Please help. we want to popup an new browser window when click on a button and the new window is pointing to an external web site.
    I can make it work to point to an external site in the same window. But that is not we want to.
    I do see some old posting about this but it does not work for us.
    Please anyone knows the detail of the steps and code, probably including any environment setting/configuration if required, response to this thread.
    thanks a lot in advance!
    ggu

    ggu,
    This is a gimmicky solution but it works and is reusable. Copy your button template and rename it POP_UP_BUTTON. Get rid of the #LINK# substitution string and replace it with:
    window.open('#BUTTON_ATTRIBUTES#')Put the URL you want to go to in the attributes section of the button. Put something like "TO_<DOMAIN>" in the button request so it is not totally gibberish and irrelevant. This would be much nicer if the apex engine did not include the "apex.submit()" code inside of the #LINK# substitution string. Or if they provided a second substitution string just for the URL specified.
    Here is the old code:
    <button value="#LABEL#" onclick="#LINK#" class="button-default" type="button">
      <span>#LABEL#</span>
    </button>here is the new code:
    <button value="#LABEL#" onclick="window.open('#BUTTON_ATTRIBUTES#')" class="button-default" type="button">
      <span>#LABEL#</span>
    </button>Cheers,

  • How can I open a new browser window!!!  Very Challenging!!!

    I have a form (name=MAIN) with a submit button (name=Button A). Button A opens a new browser window (name=SEARCH), via an HTML form target tag (<FORM TARGET=A>). Window SEARCH has multiple submit buttons (10-15). Each button has a different action which is handled by a servlet (form name and button name are passed to a servlet as a hidden field in the form to determine the action), which is setup to be an action handler. When a button in the SEARCH window is clicked the results are retrieved from an Oracle database and should be displayed in the text fields in window MAIN.
    For example, some results may be displayed in window SEARCH (_self) and and other results may be required to be sent to window MAIN depending on the button clicked.
    How can I setup window SEARCH so each button can have a different target window (some may be window MAIN or other windows)? Using a form tag for each button doesn't give desirable results. Is there a way to do this with JSP or some form of Java code?
    A form tag can only have one target. Basically I have one form with multiple submit buttons. How can I get it to send each submit buttons results to a specific window?
    Thanks.

    <!-- try this -->
    <script language="JavaScript1.2">
    function mysubmit(mytarget){
    document.myform.target=mytarget;
    document.myform.submit();

    <input type=button name='submit2' value='submit2' onclick='mysubmit("target2")'>
    <input type=button name='submit3' value='submit3' onclick='mysubmit("target3")'>
    <input type=button name='submit4' value='submit4' onclick='mysubmit("target4")'>

  • Outputting Servlet information to a new browser window

    I have a simple form that has a few input text fields and a button. When the button is clicked, the information is submitted to a servlet that uses the information to generate XML and display it on the browser window.
    My question is that is it possible to output the XML to a new browser window not the one where the information was submitted from?
    Example, I submit some information, a new window pops up displaying the XML. The form window remains as is and outputs a submitted message.
    Any code would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Rizwan

    well thats realy not a servlet q, but a html/jsp q..
    your form submit should go to the same page as the form resides on..
    in your servlet you process and prepare the response
    in your formpage you should detect when a submit has taken place (request.getParam... some variable added in your response prepare
    if this is the case, use java script to open a new page (also posting your response information)

  • Opening New Browser window for click event on an image

    hi all,
    I want someone to help me out solving the problem of opening
    a new browser window on the mouse click event of an image or a
    button etc.... The new window would contain the datagrid details
    from the main window, but in an expanded form. If at all there is a
    solution, I even want to know whether there is anyway for sizing
    the poped up window,because I dont want the new poped up window to
    cover the entire screen.
    For getting better idea of my problem, the best example I
    could give is the popup window that appears when we click on the
    preview button while posting the message to the forum.
    Someone please do help me out in this regard.
    Thanks,
    amar.

    I'd definitely try to use a Flex popup... but the
    flash.net.navigateToURL method is a simple way to open a popup
    window in a new browser. You can pass any data needed by the new
    page using the URLRequest and/or URLVariables. The URL you navigate
    to could, of course, be another Flex application if necessary. I
    use this only when I need to open a popup window on another site,
    or an HTML formatter report or something similar.
    Concerning yourself with the size of the popup window may be
    a bad design choice also. I, for example, have my browser
    configured to open all popups in a new tab regardless of sizing
    constraints imposed by the designer. If it is absolutely necessary
    for you to have control over the size of your popup window, you
    should follow the advice given by others and use a Flex
    popup.

  • Command to open a PDF generated Oracle Report in New browser window

    I know this is probably something for the Oracle Forums but I'll ask anyway because I can't find any info out there on this, without some extra work.
    I am generating a PDF file from 10g Oracle reports on Linux RHEL 5 and storing the PDF file to the server. I can send that PDF file directly to a printer with the "lpr" command and that part works fine.
    What I'm wanting to do now is "View" the PDF from within the server in a new window. We are using RHEL 5 (Linux) platform and I'm trying to see if there is a way to open the file with a "command line" command that will open it in a new browser window or new window period (opening it with Adobe Acrobat).
    Does anyone have a command that will do this? Otherwise, how has everyone else been handling this. The idea of just viewing the previously generated PDF Report file will save us overhead on our database servers because they won't have to re-run some of the same reports over and over.
    Any help and assistance is appreciated.
    Chris

    Several options:
    - If you only want to show the pdf to the client without printing, use destype=cache and use WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT after the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT (for examples search the forms-forum, there are lots)
    -If you have to generate the pdf to a file to get it printed, you could
    +use WEBUTIL_FILETRANSFER.AS_TO_CLIENT after the printing to transfer the file to the client, then use CLIENT_HOST to view it.
    +map the appserver-directory you generate the report to as a virtual directory in the application-server then use WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT to directly access the generated file via url.
