Submitting website form data offline via Swing app

Hi, I need to write a program that submits text data to text fields on a website and then submits it by somehow "clicking" the submit button with a command. I've looked around the forums and found stuff such as the URLConnection class and the javax.swing.text.html package (supposedly this package can access data entry forms remotely???), and also the calling of javascript code from java. However, I don't know much JS, and was wondering if there were any classes/tutorials on how I could accomplish the above in Java that could be easily added to my program? Note that I'm doing this from an application (hence, "offline"), NOT an applet.

  • Submitting PDF form data

    In the following discussion from last year: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/988633?tstart=0
    it's stated that the only type of submit form action that's supported is where the entire PDF is sent via email. This isn't really a submit though, it's just initiating an email and attaching the form. What I would like is to be able to set up a form to submit to a web server, either the entire PDF or just the form data. This is in fact allowed for PDF forms (Acroforms) that have been distributed through the FormsCentral service (which was added after that discussion linked to above), and when using the various desktop versions of course. The button action for a FormsCentral PDF form uses the submitForm JavaScript method and submits the form data as "HTML", but when I try to do the same thing with a form I create, it simply doesn't work. So either there's some proprietary magic that's enabled for use only with FormsCentral distributed forms, or everything I've tried is somehow wrong. Can anyone from the Reader development team or anyone else provide some clues?
    I noticed that when I replaced the URL in the submitForm statement in a FormsCentral-enabled PDF form, the form still submitted to FormsCentral, probably due to the metadata that's also set when a PDF is distributed via FormsCentral, so there is some sort of magic going on...
    Thanks!

    If the ability to submit is limited to FormsCentral-enabled forms, it would be interesting to know why such a restriction is in place. Reader for Win/Mac has been able to submit form data (as "HTML", FDF and later XFDF and PDF) since forms were first introduced with version 3. What is the justification for this restriction on iOS?

  • How do I denote a file name for submitted XML form data?

    Hi guys, is there a way to change the submitted XML file name [when emailing form data] to something other than the cryptic string livecycle uses e.g. _e8hfydsh55hsksdf.xml
    Thanks for any help, cheers Dyr

    When you preview a PDF from inside designer, it uses a temp filename for the doc and therefore when you test xml submit etc you will get the 'e.g. _e8hfydsh55hsksdf.xml' as a filename. However if the form is saved locally (e.g. MyForm.pdf) and you use Reader / Acrobat to open the PDF, then the email's subject message as well as the xml file will be MyForm.xml. Does that help you?

    Hi Sri,
    You will need to have a Show item for the form as the users will need to be able to view the contents of the form.
    Darin's idea for the email is a good one. You should create a group for all the intended recipients of the email and then configure them to receive notification on updates to the directory that you specify your XML forms to point to.

  • Submitted PDF form data are empty

    I created a simple PDF form using Acrobat X Pro that containing one textbox ("txtName") and one button ("btnSubmit"). The button's action is set to "Submit a form" and the URL is set to an asp.net generic handler ("PdfFormHandler.ashx").
    When I open the PDF in browser and fill in the textbox and click on submit button, the form submitted. But on the server side, "txtName" is always empty. There are no errors but just missing the submitted data. the server side code is:
    public class PdfFormHandler : IHttpHandler
        public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
            if (context.Request.RequestType == "POST")
                var name = context.Request.Form["txtName"];
                context.Response.ContentType = "text/plain";
                context.Response.Write("Hello " + name);
        public bool IsReusable
            get
                return false;
    I should see "Hello " and then a name. But since it's not able to retrieve "txtName", it only prints "Hello".
    i found what the problem is and i posted the answer here. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10885969/adobe-pdf-form-submitted-but-request-form-coll ection-is-empty

    You could try first flattenening the fields. This converts the field appearances to regular page contents. You can do this with JavaScript, PDF Optimizer, or a Preflight fixup.

  • Form Data Order in XML

    How can you organize form data exported via XML Email Submit button? I would expect this data to follow the order within the XDP object heirarcy, however the results jump from object to object on different pages. Forget about mapping this to a database...in this case I just want the raw data to be merged via Acrobat and into a .CSV
    Is there something I'm missing? Would I need an XML Schema...thats seems like overkill. By the way I created this on Designer 11 but have tried it in Design 8.2 as well. I would expect this to function just like this feature did with AcroForms.

    Figured it out. You veterans will probably laugh, but I don't do a lot of this. I found a pallette called "Binding" and noticed a list of the fields there. Two were missing and they happened to be the ones that were out of order. I compared them to the ones that were there and the missing ones were marked global while the others were marked normal. I changed those two to normal, they showed up in the binding pallatte in the right order and my test worked just fine.
    As usual, thanks to all.

  • How can I change the order of html form data submitted to me via email?

    I am having customers contact me via an html form posted on my website using the "sendtoemail" command. When I receive the data in an e-mail it  is not presented in the order it appears on the web page and I can't seem to find out what dictates the order the data is presented in or how I can change it.
    Anyone have any ideas on how I can make HTML form data elements appear in the order I want?
    Thanks,
    Andy

  • Problems Submitting PDF Forms via Adobe Reader XI?

    Hi,
    I have used Acrobat Pro (Versions 9/X and XI) to successfully create fillable PDF forms. I distributed the forms to a server via Acrobat, then set up a hyperlink to the form's location for my users. The users were able to fill the form and submit it.  I was able to manage the submitted form data via Adobe Tracker.  Recently, many of my users have been updated to Acrobat Reader XI.  Now, some of these same users (who have successfully submitted these forms in the past - before the latest upgrade) can no longer submit the form data!  If a user fills the form and clicks submit, it appears to that user that the form was successfully submitted, but no data appears in Adobe Tracker, even after refreshing... What would cause this??
    Thank you!

    What is your operating system?  What is your Reader XI version?  What exactly means "cannot"?

  • Submitting Pdf form fields to a MySQL database via PhP

    Hi there,
    I have recently created a Pdf in Adobe LiveCycle which looks great, and I have added a submit button which is set up to send all the form data in HTML to a PhP file on the server side. The PhP file then collects the form data and inserts it into my MySQL database.
    When I run this form from Adobe reader or Professional it works great and the new record is inserted in the database. However I am trying to embed the form into a HTML page, which again looks fine, and all other buttons i.e. Save As, Print work fine.
    The submit button however is not working properly now. It inserts a new record into my database, but the fields are blank as if the form data has not been sent or received?
    Can you possibly advise me where i'm going wrong.
    Much appreciated
    Cane

    Hi Cane,
    I'm relatively new to creating Adobe Forms but I'm looking to do exactly what you have set up, submitting the results to php which sends the results to a database. I don't like the responses being sent to a pdf response file then every so often you have to export to csv then import the results into a database....too tedious. Can you perhaps provide the code that goes behind the submit button and maybe the code that you use on the php/server side? Again, relatively new to this and don't know where to begin but if I can look at the code behind this it would make things a lot easier.
    Thanks,
    Ed

  • Send Form Data to PC via USB cabile

    Respected SIr/Madam
    I want to send Form Data or RMS Data to PC via USB data cabile .
    Is it Possible ?
    if it is possible then please give me some idea how to make it
    thanks in advanse
    Souvik

    Yes ..
    First ensure that driver for the Data cable is installed.
    Get the comm port number .
    In windows
    control panel->Phone & Modem options ->Modems..
    The Comm port no for the data cable is present in Attached To column.
    In Linux ..
    you can get it by checking the Device options
    Next
    U need to establish a connection between PC & Handset using the comm port.
    Note that The comm port obtained here is the reference commport in the PC..
    U can get the comm port number in Handset using the J2ME application itself..
    String port;
    String ports = System.getProperty("microedition.commports");
    int comma = ports.indexOf(',');
    if (comma > 0) {
    // Parse the first port from the available ports list.
    port = ports.substring(0, comma);
    } else {
    // Only one serial port available.
    port =ports;
    /*Below is a code example showing how you can use serial I/O API to open a connection and read/write
    to it. */
    //using commconnection since midp2.0
    CommConnection commConn =
    (CommConnection)Connector.open("comm:COM0;baudrate=115200", Connector.READ_WRITE,
    true);
    InputStream iStream = commConn.openInputStream();
    OutputStream oStream = commConn.openOutputStream();
    String sMessage = "send";
    oStream.write(sMessage.getBytes());
    Thread tRead = new Thread() {
    public void run() {
    while (true) {
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
    while(true) {
    int c = iStream.read();
    if(c != '\r') {
    sb.append((char)c);
    else
    break;
    try {
    sleep(1000);
    catch (InterruptedException e) {}
    tRead.start();For some handsets that do not support CommConnection, you can use StreamConnection in place of
    CommConnection with the same result:
    StreamConnection commConn =
    (StreamConnection)Connector.open("comm:COM0";baudrate=115200"); The above code is for J2me application running on Handset ...
    In PC you can refer it using the comm port identified from the Control Panel.
