Substitution tags value

Hi,
can I get the substitution tags value used by template
and assign this to a variable defined in a Unstructured template?
My problem is to manage a conditioned exit action
from a reports chain called by several Dynamic Pages
thanks
Giovanna

Hi,
You can use substitution tags only in unstructured templates. You cannot use them in dynamic pages.
Thanks,

• User interface template substitution tags problem

Portal 9.0.2.0.3 (Upgraded from 9.0.2.2.14A)
Hi all,
I am designing an unstructured user interface for use with my portal reports.
I have located a help document called 'Unstructured user interface template substitution tags' from the standard portal help pages.
My problem is that only a few of these tags are actually being substituted for their correct values when I run my reports. For example the help document says the #PAGE.CUSTOMIZEPAGE# tag should be substituted with HTML text hyperlink to the customize page dialog. On my report this tag and the majority of others are substituted with a blank line.
Any ideas?

Same problem exists with the #TITLE# tag. However, SOMETIMES (I don't know how or why) the tag shows up. If I find out what the secret is, I'll let you know.
Anyone else have any input?

• PL/SQL for Items / Substitution Tags

Is there any documentation listing how to retrieve the label / value / style for items (such as portal smart links) and substitution tags (used in page and content templates) using PL/SQL?
For me, using items is good just to get something up and running, but I find I just don't have enough control over the final look and feel (all those TABLE/TR/TDs just kill me!) to produce a quality result. I'm thinking of something like the instant portal, which looks great, but AFAIK is entirely coded in custom PL/SQL.
I've seen a few posts relating to "how do I get the XXX field", such as this one: Re: User first name, last name Information in welcome message so I guess there are some other users out there with the same problem.
If this doco does not exist anywhere, maybe we could start a thread here (or on a wiki somewhere???) and people could add individual cases as they use them, and that way build up a quick reference for anyone to use.
Cheers,
Barney

<No idea what happened to the formatting there - same post again>
Nope - saw that.
As I understand it, these are only available within either page templates or content layout templates. For instance, I can't even see a way to produce the simplest of welcome strings:
Welcome #USER.FULLNAME# (#USER#)
(and I'd really like it if #USER# returned the user id in the case it is stored in the OID, rather than converting it to upper case!)
I can try to construct this out of items, but then I end up in a table/tr/td formatting hell.
In this specific case, I can achieve this by constructing a content layout which displays this HTML but not the actual item content, and using it in a region with a single dummy item (the USER fields are not documented in the content layout section, but do appear to work), but then try to add the logout URL to the mix and I'm stuck again.
Two solutions spring to mind to make this work:
1. Improve the HTML Portlet to understand / translate these substitution tags
2. Document how/where to get the info from. It's all on the database somewhere, and hence accessible via PL/SQL items.
I don't hold out much hope of seeing (1) in the near future, so was going for (2).
Cheers,
Barney

• HTML content layout substitution tags

Hi,
We have a multi-language Portal 10.1.4 and use HTML content layout substitution tags in a HTML Template. The problem is that we would like to use the ITEM.PUBLISHDATE.LABEL and the ITEM.UPDATESDATE.LABEL tags but the text rendered isn't exactly what we would like to get (f.e. in English it's 'Publish Date' and in French it's 'Date de mise à jour').
I looked in the documentation and found that the text rendered correspond to the display name of the attribut (not 100% sure of this). But, those attributs are in the Shared Objects and we can't modify them.
1. We would like to modify the display name of those attributs (both in French and in English) or find any other way to make it.
2. We also want to apply an other format to the date retreived with the ITEM.PUBLISHDATE.VALUE and the ITEM.UPDATEDDATE.VALUE tags.
Can someone help us with those issues ?
David

Yes, we added languages in the Translation tab of the shared object pagegroup properties.

• Portal Substitution Tags

I am having some troubles getting the #USER.FULLNAME# tag to work on my template. Doesn't mater what I tried the tag won't display any value. I made sure the user last name and first name were populated from looking at the WWSEC_PERSON$ table (both portal30 and portal30_sso schema). Is this a bug?
I am also interested to find out if there is a way I can create user-defined substitution tags. I sure can use the user-defined substitution tags on many instances.
Thanks

Hi,
This was a bug(replacement of fullname) which has been fixed in the 30984 patch release.
You cannot declare your own tags but you could use the already existing ones provided.See the context help for a list of tags ,portal supports.
Thanks,

Hi All,
We are working on 'AP Check Print Report' which is XML based Report and the output is in the PDF format.
We are facing a problem when we are suppose to compare a Tag value (DocumentNumber/ReferenceNumber) to a partial value('%TDS-CM%') as below,

• How to read the tag values sent by PCo to MII transaction

Hi everybody,
I have an Agent created inside PCo and its listening to a data server. I have also created a notification object which triggers my MII Transaction (after certain condition is getting fulfilled).
Now, I want to pass certain values from PCo to MII using the notification object. For this I have tried 2 options:
1. I defined one input parameter in transaction of type 'XML'. But this did not work. When I used 'Tracer' to check the received values, it showed empty.
2. Since XML variable did not work, I tried with 'String' variable. It worked but the entire input data was in 'String' format.
Actually I used XML_Saver to save the string and given filename as '.xml'. When I opened that xml file, it was looking like this:
<<unable to write XML here>>
Considering the above 2nd option, how can I extract the particular 'Tag' values from XML string. Since the string is not in the format of 'Rowset/Row/Row', I cannot specifically assign/map those tag values to any other variable inside MII transaction.
===========

Hi, I was trying to post the xml string. It was not possible yesterday (because, SDN editor has converted xml part into some irregular string).
Now, I am trying to post the string by removing the special characters. Please try to understand it.
Now, my question is how to retrieve the CDATA value 5599999999 using xpath. Please help.

• Feature Request - show substitution string values in session state display

Hi!
I would like to request that in addition to page and application items and session state values that the value of substitution string values be shown. Another option would be to have a separate link (like session) to display them. This would allow developers to see all of the available substitution values and how they change across pages, etc.
Thanks!

Dave - What are some examples of values that you are not seeing in the session state report that would be useful?

the tag <STATE_ABBREVIATION> value shuold be 'CA' and the <CITY> tag value should be Palo_Alto then I will store the ZIPCODE
ZIP_CODE_EXTN,STATE_ABBREVIATION tag values in the Oracle Relational table.
The below pl/sql program storing all the three rows but I required the values based on the filter condition that I mentioned earlier.

• Sharing complex substitution variable values between ASO and BSO databases

We have ASO and BSO Essbase database member names with spaces in, and need to store some of these member names in substitution variables. However, this has to be done differently for ASO and BSO, due to calc script syntax requiring double quotes and MDX requiring square brackets. For example:
ASO:
&CurWeek value = Week 1
MDX: [&CurWeek]
BSO:
&CurWeek value = "Week 1"
Calc Script: &CurWeek
As a result, the substitution variables cannot be shared between the ASO and BSO cubes, since the BSO variable value requires double quotes due to the space in the member name.
Is there a way to get the above to work with both ASO and BSO? Can the double quotes be escaped in calc script syntax? Or can the double quotes be removed in the MDX formula?

Hi TimG,
Apologies for such a late reponse to this, genuinely haven't had a spare second to reply until now!
Yes, I suspect a complex alias name may be the best solution here, and to remove the spaces from the actual member names.
I was not aware of the latter part at all. My colleague has confirmed as much on this too - DBAG 11.1.2.1 pp117 & 118:
"Note: If a substitution variable value is numeric or a member name starting with a
numeral or containing the special characters referred to above is to be used both
in MDX and non-MDX situations, create two substitution variables, one without
the value enclosed in quotation marks and one with the value in quotation marks."
"To ensure that a new substitution variable value is available in formulas, partition definitions,
and security filters, stop and restart the application. All other uses of substitution variables are
dynamically resolved when used."
This last paragraph is the most concerning since we were planning to be able to update substitution variables values and then access the new values from calc scripts and formulae instantaneously. This quirk is unexpected and a little inconvenient. We may have to look at scheduling a change of substitution variable value overnight, followed by a stop/start of the app ready for the next day, and to work around needing to access changed values instantly.

• Setting the XML tag value in Java script

Hi,
I am trying to set a XML tag value in the initialize event of a text field.. The code works fine in FormCalc but I needed it to work in java script.
FormCalc:
$record.prospectApplication.typeName = "namedInsured";
Java Script:
xfa.record.prospectApplication.typeName = "namedInsured";
The above JavaScript does not work. Can any one help on this?
Thanks
Srini

Hi Srini,
In JavaScript you don't get any default properties so you need to say;
xfa.record.prospectApplication.typeName.value = "namedInsured";
That is assign the value to the "value" property not the dataValue object.

Hi,
it took me some time to understand what the code should do.
First of all please let me say, that wiring trough the error cluster is immanent for debugging. One problem I see is that the refnum from the document element is zero, so that all other calls for childs are failing. You will only notice this by debugging or execution highlighting (see James hint). You will also see a hint for a problem in this region of the code when you look at your indicator loadXml. This once was always False.
I have changed two things:
LoadXml.vi -> Read from Text File instead of binary
Main.vi -> Using the read text for input of the LoadXml invoke method and not the pretty printed one.
Now LoadXml performs the action and your 2D array is filling in some stuff. My advice would be to carefully debug your code and look, where references get lost and where errors occur.
Good Luck

• Formating and calculating xml tag value

I have an xml file that holds xml tag such as <weight>.55 kg</weight>
I want to have two outputs:
Output 1) Output to print: 0.55
Output 2) Output to print 0.8 of the xml tag value (0.55 * 0.8) : 0.44
I was able to get the Output 1) by using <?format-number:weight;'9G990D00'?>
However, I can not get the Output2) as expected.
If I put <?format-number:(weight)*0.8;'9G990D00'?>,
I get the error message "Caused by: oracle.xdo.parser.v2.XPathException: Cannot convert .55 kg to number."
Appreciate any help on how to solution for Output2)

If that is the case then try using
<?format-number:( substring-before(WEIGHT,'kg')*0.8);'9G990D00'?>

• XML access to atributes and tag values at the same time

Hi to everyone,
I'm making some experiences with Flex, but I already have some experience with Flash and AS3.
What I'm trying to accomplish, is to make a small application that uses webservices from the Weather Channel. The first part of the application is to ask the user his location. Then the location is sent to the webservice and the system return an XML with the possible matches. The user chooses one, and the weather information is shown.
I have no problem with the navigation, or passing the results from one stage to another, but I'm having a problem, that I think it has an easy fix, but I can't get a light or answer from what I've seen from these forums or webasites... I suspect it's because the format of the XML that is return.
For example, my request is this one: http://xoap.weather.com/search/search?where=aveiro
wich return two possible locations, in this way:
<search ver="3.0">
<loc id="BRXX1094" type="1">Aveiro, Brazil</loc>
<loc id="POXX0006" type="1">Aveiro, Portugal</loc>
</search>
Well, I want to display in a Datagrid the "id" attribute, and the "loc" tag value, i.e, "Aveiro, Brazil" and "Aveiro, Portugal".
I defined the DataGrid like this:
<mx:DataGrid x="10" y="53" width="365" id="dgLocation" dataProvider="{wSearch.lastResult.loc}" itemClick="callService(event);">
<mx:columns>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Localidade" dataField="loc"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Referência" dataField="@id"/>
</mx:columns>
</mx:DataGrid>
In the "loc" dataField, doesn't show anything, and the "@id" does display the correct information. Since I only have "loc" tag inside the main root tag, how can I get teir values? With labelFunction? How would you write it to get the information?
This is my last try:
private function getLocationName(item:Object, column:DataGridColumn):String{
var xmlitem:XML=XML(item);
trace(xmlitem.loc.toXMLString());
return item.loc;
Any ideias are welcome. Thanks.

This seems to work:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
creationComplete="wSearch.send();">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.controls.dataGridClasses.DataGridColumn;
private function getData(item:Object, column:DataGridColumn):String{
return XML(item).valueOf();
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:HTTPService id="wSearch" url="http://xoap.weather.com/search/search?where=aveiro"
resultFormat="e4x"/>
<mx:DataGrid x="10" y="53" width="365" id="dgLocation"
dataProvider="{wSearch.lastResult.loc}">
<mx:columns>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Localidade" labelFunction="getData"/>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Referência" dataField="@id"/>
</mx:columns>
</mx:DataGrid>
</mx:Application>
