Suggested Book for Java Enterprise

Hi,
Does anyone have suggestions for a Book, which covers Java Enterprise programming(EJB, Servlets, JSP etc..)
Thanks

Java : How to Program by Deitel and Deitel
I still use it ALL THE TIME -when I forget the methods of a whatever API: its nearly always the first ref I grab, you cannot go wrong though the latest versions are very swing orientated, so you may need something with java 1 for applets if you want to publish them on the web.

Just remember that this book is for JC 2.1 not 2.2.1. I have still found this book good for explaining the fundamentals of Java Card development. It just doesn't cover all of the JC 2.2.x API's.

  • Suggest Good book for Java GUI learning

    Hi all,
Can anyone suggest me a good bookf or learning Java's GUI(swing,Evnt handling, applets)
    thanx

The Swing tutorial is an excellent free reference.
    [The swing tutorial|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/]
Once you are a little more familiar with Swing, I'd suggest the book "filthy rich clients", as that book covers what lies beyond basic GUI programming, delving into creating rich UIs with custom painting.
Whatever you do, don't make the mistake of starting out with a GUI builder such as Netbeans provides; learn this stuff by programming everything yourself. You'll quickly learn what NOT to do in Swing programming, which is vital knowledge.
During your research, look out for the "Event Dispatch Thread" - that is one of the core mechanics of Swing that you should learn about to prevent yourself from making many mistakes that lead to unpredictable results.

  • Book For Java Card

    Hello,
I need to learn Java Card technology and need a book to buy, can you suggest me any good book about it? What i saw at amazon they have really old books. Which of them would you suggest me?

I was lucky enough to meet Zhiqun Chen and speak to her. Her book was the starting point I had for learning Java Card. It is still quite relevant today as well even though it targets JC 2.1.1. You can use this to get a solid understanding of Java Card and then look at the JCDK documentation for newer versions to see what API's there are etc.

    i got the following book..
    OCA Oracle Database 11g:
    SQL Fundamentals I
Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051) by John Watson
    Roopesh Ramklass.
please let me know other books of this series...Just downloading/purchasing the Books is not going to help you learn SQL. You will have to read and practice.
    My take is:
    1. Oracle Documentation -- Download from Here
    2. Effective Oracle by Design by Tom Kyte (Might have to purchase it as its not available for free download).
Once you read these and practice simultaneously, you would be able to grasp much more than reading all the above 4-5 books mentioned.
Also, I would say, to read just one of the books at a time than to make a mess by reading all and understanding none.

Let me know how far this book can be the best to learn java Quickly ?

    Hi,

I just got a book "Java: Complete Reference" by
    e" by Herbert Schildt
Let me know how far this book can be the best to
t to learn java Quickly ?I believe I had an old version of this book. It was not a good learning tool. It was only mildly helpful when I didn't know how to read the java API specification. Now that I know how to read it, I don't bother with it anymore. Most of it was directly lifted out of the Java API specification! It also had errata galore. (You'd think that stuff that was directly copied wouldn't have so many errors, but.. there's more than one page where I took a black pen and wrote down the correction).
If I recall correctly, the book claimed it had a section on Swing, but this turned out to be a woefully inadequate summary. (Of course, this might be corrected in the latest edition).
Let's put it this way. I have five shelves of computer books. The top shelf is for stuff I never use. This is the lone Java book on the top shelf.
I suppose it could be helpful if you need a quick and dirty reference on java syntax (for, while, &&, ||, etc.); this is covered very fast in the first couple of chapters.
    Hope that helps!

  • Good book for java?

    hi,all:
    Please give me some advise.
    Thank you!

Take a look at the tutorial here: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/ ... if you go though this you will probably save yourself from getting a basic java book, and if you want you can get a more specific one on a specific topic. Once you get a basic understanding of java then you will find that there are a ton of online tutorials, and a little help from this forum.
    hope this helps

    Hi All
I wish to be recommend a good book for Java 2 Certification Study Guide for SCJP.
Hopefully it is a book with good explanation.
    regards
    Tj

    Hello;
I ran a SCJP5 study group at my work to get us all certified. We went with with Sierra, Bates book. ISBN 0072253606. The group found the book very useful and clear in understanding.
Most in the study group were vetran Java developers without any certifications. There was one or two that were learning Java. All of us had our annual bonus depanant on passing the cert. We were all highly motivated.

What is Enterprise SOA and Enterprise SOA?
SOA is an increasingly popular concept. But it never really took off, because there has been no standard middleware or application programming interfaces that would allow it to take root. There were attempts to build them, then Web services came along and gave it a boost. The Web services underlying architecture dovetails perfectly with the concept of Enterprise SOA —so much so, in fact, that some analysts and software makers believe that the future of Web services rests with Enterprise SOA. SAP came up with the startergic decision on coverting the Webservice methodolgy to Enterprise Services Methodology "Which would have business semantics attached as capability".
So how does EnterpriseEnterprise SOA differ from Web services?
Most Web services implementations are point-to-point, where you have an intimate knowledge of the platform to which you're connecting. The implementation is fairly solid and the interface doesn't really change,. That means that the Web service is not made available publicly on the network, and cannot be "discovered" — in a sense, it's hard-coded in the point-to-point connection. In an Enterprise SOA implementation, information about the Enterprise services and how to connect to it is published in a UDDI-built directory, and so that Enterprise service can be easily discovered and used in other applications and implementations.
    Why use Enterprise SOA?
A number of factors are driving the move toward Enterprise SOA. Cost savings is one. If you can reuse services you've already built, then you don't have to spend as much time and money developing new applications. Another factor is the increasing success of Web services. As companies build more Web services, unless they have an overarching architecture. For example, what happens when one of those Web services has been incorporated into other applications, but then the Web service is changed without telling developers of those applications? An overall architecture needs to be built to make sure that doesn't happen. Perhaps most importantlyis that an Enterprise SOA "increases a business's flexibility and lets it more quickly adapt to changing business needs." Most Web services are being used primarily "to solve point-to-point integration problems." But these solutions "can't solve the larger integration problems in converting hundreds of systems" to an overall, single enterprise architecture. For that, SAP Enterprise SOA is needed.
But while the basic Web services architecture fits neatly into the Enterprise concept, there are still roadblocks to setting them up. Notable among them, Is security, identity management issues, and management problems — having software that will be able to track and manage hundreds or dozens of Web services and their development and deployment. SAP Software is just becoming available to do that. On the security side, the issues still haven't been solved.
    Reward points if useful.
    Cheers,
    Swamy Kunche.
