Suggestion: option to view changelog for CVS PKGs

i had a kind of neat idea that i think it would be cool to implement for all CVS packages
as the whole point of cvs is to stay up to speed with changes and development progress why not add a post-install script offering you the chance to display the change log?
A simple
: View changelog? (Y/n)
Would cover it.  I know viewing the changelog is part and parcel of good cvs usage but sometimes we all need a little prompting...just in case we miss something.  It will remove the need for the user to locate the changelog in the cvs source - because the packager will have done it for them.
A bit of standardized code would be best as well i think, to maintain consistency.
So, suggestions on a postcard (I can't do mine today cos i am v busy and not booting into linux so i can't get distracted)

i'm not really talking about all packages - just cvs packages - which are mainly maintained in TURs and UORs - i don't think it needs to be an arch wide pacman adjustment - i was just suggesting the adoption of an unofficial standard - same as i would like to see the use of $cvsroot, $cvsmod and anonmyous:@ in all cvs PKGBUILDs. it would just be nice to have an agreed but unofficial approach that's all
sometimes suggesting things in this forum is a bit like getting a quote from a plumber
"(sucks in breath between teeth) Could be tricky, might be expensive if you know what i mean..."
can't we just get on with it and agree amongst ourselves?

  • Suggestion: integrated Changelog for packages

I searched this forum and couldn't find it suggested before, although it may be a little obvious:
When pacman upgrade packages, I often wonder what has changed. To find out, I have to look at the homepage of the program if it's a new version, or check ABS CVS commit logs if it's a new pkgrel. Wouldn't it be nice to have something like 'pacman -Qc foo' or 'pacman --query --changelog foo' that would dump a changelog for the package? I know both RPM and Portage has this, it's very handy. Are there plans for this?

I have come across several discussions on this. The answer almost always comes to: the user can check the cvs logs and the user can check the release notes on the projects site.
However, for arch, this is a good answer because arch generally does not do anything to the packages supplied by the projects. There are no distribution specific patches or back patches or anything of the kind generally. So you can actually read what the dist said it released and be very confident that is what you got. This is certanitly not the case with redhat, suse, xandros, etc... where distribution specific change logs are important.

how hard would it be to integrate the changelog posted to CVS into each package? I searched for previous discussions but came up empty.
Also -- It's not neccesarily true  that arch doesn't touch packages... my last update mostly had release revisions
    # pacman -Syu
    Targets: kdemultimedia-3.2.2-2 libtiff-3.6.1-3 man-pages-1.67-1 mplayer-1.0pre4-2
So what is the reason the changelog can't be included?  Is it too much of a change to the pacman DB -- or is it because it's not desired by the devs because then they would have to write changelogs, or something else?
I, perosnally, would like to know why a package is being upgraded without looking in CVS (which seems to be a gripe not only I have) -- I would also like the option to just install packages with security fixes.

  • How do I access the data saved on my time capsule?  for example, if i try to view my photos it tells me that i have 2.4gb of photos and gives me the option to "view with iPhoto"....but when i click on "view with iPhoto" nothing happens...  thanks!

how do i access the data stored on my time capsule?  for example, if i try to view a photo, i get the option to "view with iphoto" but when i click on "view with iphoto" nothing happens.  i'm having similar trouble openning up movies, music, etc.  it appears as though the files exist / saved on the time capsule (because i can see how much storage they consume), but i can't open them.  thanks!

Unfortunately, Apple removed the feature to "browse backups" in Time Machine backups of iPhoto a few years ago.
You have to restore the entire iPhoto library to a separate location to be able to "see" it, and then choose the specific images that you want use.
For complete details, see #15 in Pondini's excellent support document Time Machine -- FAQ.  Check the information in the pink box there.

I hope this discussion can be revived. I have the same problem. There seem to be quite a few Japanese sites that don't bother specifying their encoding. Perhaps they are older and from a time when it was not necessary to adhere to standards. Examples: http://www1.plala.or.jp/CUE/cave_yozawa.html, http://chigaku.web.fc2.com/saitama/sanchi/youzawa/youzawa.html. Happy to upload screenshots, but how?
Is there a way to tell Safari what encoding to use if the web page fails to do that?

  • When I open TB, under "Accounts", it only shows the option "Create a new account". Option: "View settings for this account" is NOT shown.

When I open TB, I no longer see any information about the TB account I've used for years. Instead, the main menu shows only "Accounts" -- "Create a new account - Email, Chat, Newsgroups, Feeds". Option: "View settings for this account" is NOT shown.
Also the main menu does NOT show "Email - Read messages, Write a New Message" or "Advanced features", etc..
The actual emails pertaining to the TB account I've used for years are still present under the "Users --> xxxxyyyy --> AppData --> Roaming --> Thunderbird' folder.

  • Does pages have an equivalent for Word's option of viewing a document in "online layout"?

Does pages have an equivalent for Word's option of viewing a document in "online layout"?

With online layout you can have the page of your document fill up as much of the screen as you want while being able to zoom the viewing of your text or words to any percentage you want. In pages, I can zoom or stretch the document to fit the full width of the screen, but the view the actual text or words themselves correspondingly enlarges as well.

  • Is there any difference viewer software for reports??

    Hi,
Is there any difference viewer software for viewing differences between two oracle reports??
    Thanks for ur suggestions!
    Madhu

Any version control software, like CVS, allows for line-to-line comparison of different versions of the same file. The problem with reports is that to understand differences you need to save the reports in human readable format that can be REX-file.

  • Suggestions about the best tool for quality check for an ADF application

    Hi All,
I need a few suggestions about the best tool for quality check in our ADF applicaiton.
ours is a small size WebCenter Portal application which neither uses any task flows nor consumes any portlets.
It has many jspx pages that use ADF components like table etc, consume web services using web service clients, and has some java classes.
We have come across below option to implement the code quality tools.
    1. Jdeveloper inbuilt Staus option in View tab
    2. PMD extension for Jdeveloper
    3. Red Samurai
Few more suggestions or best practices would be really helpful.
    Thanks,
    Usha

You can use JAudit as well as mentioned in the blog.

It should keep asking for the password, because it's trying to check for purchases... As soon as you login, it will see you have pending downloads and create the downloads section on the left below Purchases under the Store section. Then it will start the music downloads there, as they will be listed one below the other.
You could just try to check your account balance or view your account and that will trigger a password request too. You can just click on that and say that now iTunes keeps asking for the password and ask him to help you with that. Trick would be to interrupt him so that he carries on with another task after, so he doesn't notice the download. Or you carry on with email or browsing which you were "busy" with when iTunes interrupted you for the password (stupid iTunes)

  • Can someone make iBooks have the Option to view 2 pages in landscape mode so it can use up all the pixel real estate?

Can someone make iBooks have the Option to view 2 pages in landscape mode so it can use up all the pixel real estate?
Apple usually does this for OSX and its great when compared to windows where it doesnt use up all the real estate for viewing applications like websites and pdf files but when it comes to iBooks, it feels like there is no apple touch to it and is limited.
If steve jobs were still alive, i bet there wouldnt be this problem >.>
Please consider this as a real problem for people out there who would like to see 2 pages in landscape mode with pdf files and not just epub files.
    Thanks!

I'm happy for the reply to the post and helpful link you posted to where I can leave some feedback for my post on an Apple monitored site but i rather you not reply if your gonna leave a snyde remark with every helpful comment.
Don't do it again. and Thanks for the help.

recently i updated my software to 7.0.4 after that my mails automatically increased to more than 600 when actually i had not even 100. and i cant even see my mails there is no option to view them??

    Illaas,
I tried the manual method.  I was able to set the music/video to manual and then restarted the entire system.  After restart, I re-attached the ipod touch to the computer.  The sync automatically ran for everything that wasn't set to manual and it completed without a problem.  I then reset the music/video to automatically sync and restarted the entire coputer/ipod set again.  This time when I re-attached the ipod, EVERYTHING synced and there were no problems reported.  I've never had to do this before, but I will keep it in mind if something like this happens again.  Thank you for pointing me to the manual sync.

  • "Resend" option is not working for specific user. "The Operation Failed" Exchange 2010 Outlook 2013

Hi Everybody. I have a weird one for you.
I have a user that gets an "operation failed" message whenever trying to use the "resend" option on any email (It's the one right under recall). I had tested up and down on her machine. Exchange 2010 Outlook 2013
Ran in safe mode, recreated her profile, disabled virus scanning, repaired office. (weird, the font just changed sizes on me)
After all of this I tested on other computers, other users seem to be able to "resend" just fine. However her account does not work on any computer I try, internal or external to the network.
It looks more like a profile issue.
She's a very active archivist, so she only has 486MB of space used by her mailbox.
    It's well under quota.
    It's been really puzzling me.
MCSE 2003, Exchange. MCTS Vista, 7. Administrator of awful, neglected website http://timssims.net

    Hi Timssims,
Since there is only one user in the org has this issue, it seems an issue on the Outlook client side.
I suggest asking Outlook Forum for help so that we can get more professional suggestions.
    For your convenience:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/home?forum=outlook
However I also have some suggestions for your reference:
    1. If this issue occur on Cached Mode, I suggest turning to Online Mode for testing.
    2. Please also paste the detailed error message if "operation failed" is not the
    complete information.
    3. If still not works after perform operations above (including suggestions from Outlook Forum), I suggest re-creating a new mailbox for the specific user just as Martin suggested.

  • Cant open 'Show view options' under View

Hi, I'm having a small problem with Leopard, for some reason I cant open 'Show view options' under 'View' on the menu bar. I've already tried to verify and repair the disk permissions which didn't fix it, Is there any other way I can get it to work without reinstalling everything (which is not an option cause I have too much stuff on my hard drive to backup) Please, any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Joe

This is the solution if the problem is that you cannot see the Show View Options:
Some kind of application that you installed, even if you don't know it did it, changed a setting in the finder preference file.
The solution: Go to home/library/preferences and open com.apple.finder.plist, then scroll to the bottom of the file and you will see and option named: ViewOptions-inmutable, make sure the checkbox is not selected, or that the boolean value is the opposite of the one it has right now. So if it has TRUE change it to FALSE. Save the document and use the CommandOptionEscape combination to see the Force Quit Apps windows, select the finder and click the Relaunch button.
