If you are using jdk 1.4, try to use an older version.

  • D_CS_OLAP Metadata / BI Beans Tutorial

    Hi,
    I am trying to run the BI Beans tutorial based on the common schema. However, there seems to be a problem with the meta-data from D_CS_OLAP (see below). There is no such user being installed from the common schema zip file.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    D_CS_OLAP.xxx are the unique identifiers for dimensions and measures. D_CS_OLAP does not map to a user/schema.
    1) Perhaps the user logging in does not have access to these objects?
    2) There may be a patch set problem. It may be useful to get access to the file - D:\Programme\Development\JDevelper1012\bibeans\bi_checkconfig\bi_metadata.txt
    By the way, the BI Beans are the owners of this collateral. Their forum on OTN would be much more appropriate than the OLAP.

  • Help with SUN JNDI tutorial example

    HI guys there's an example of how to bound an object along with its codebase in the sun jndi tutorial
    import javax.naming.*;
    import javax.naming.directory.*;
    import java.util.Hashtable;
    * Demonstrates how to bind a Serializable object to a directory
    * with a codebase.
    * (Use Unbind to remove binding.)
    * usage: java SerObjWithCodebase <codebase URL>
    class SerObjWithCodebase {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
         if (args.length != 1) {
         System.err.println("usage: java SerObjWithCodebase <codebase URL>");
         System.exit(-1);
         String codebase = args[0];
         // Set up environment for creating initial context
         Hashtable env = new Hashtable(11);
         env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
         "com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory");
         env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ldap://localhost:389/o=JNDITutorial");
         try {
         // Create the initial context
         DirContext ctx = new InitialDirContext(env);
         // Create object to be bound
         Flower f = new Flower("rose", "pink");
         // Perform bind and specify codebase
         ctx.bind("cn=Flower", f, new BasicAttributes("javaCodebase", codebase));
         // Check that it is bound
         Flower f2 = (Flower)ctx.lookup("cn=Flower");
         System.out.println(f2);
         // Close the context when we're done
         ctx.close();
         } catch (NamingException e) {
         System.out.println("Operation failed: " + e);
    So in therory you should be able to retrieve an object in through doing a look up, and then cast it... but in this approach the client that performs the look up shouldn't need to include the class definition of the object that is being retrieved, because it's being included in the code base of the context, but then how do you avoid compilation errors such:
    SerObjWithCodebase.java:73: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : class Flower
    location: class SerObjWithCodebase
    Flower f2 = (Flower)ctx.lookup("cn=Flower");
    in the client code that is attepting to perform the look up?... is there a work-around for this problem? please let me know, thanks in advance.

    As far as I am aware, there is no possible way to compile or execute code without the client knowing it's definition.
    The client will always need the class definition if it want's to use it.
    If you don't want this coupling, then you could look at using an EJB container (which still requires the client to have skeleton code) or using something like web services

  • Run client execution problem  when running Sun J2EE tutorial example

    Hi,
    I'm trying to run the Sun J2EE tutorial example, CartApp.
    When come to run the client application I got the following error:
    The command:
    E:\Dev\src\J2EE_J2EE_tutorial\examples\ears>runclient -client CarApp.ear -name CartClient -textauth
    The error:
    Application threw an exception:java.io.IOException: CarApp.ear does not exist
    The deployment complete without error.
    I tried to the the APPCPATH to :
    set APPCPATH=E:\Dev\src\J2EE_J2EE_tutorial\examples\ears\CartAppClient.jar
    set APPCPATH=CartAppClient.jar
    On both set, it gave the same error above.
    Did someone known the problem I have ?
    Thnaks

    hi ,
    I think u have given other disply name to your J2EE client ,
    Anyway check disply name of J2EE client through deploytool.
    u have to use that display name to access the j2ee client .
    suppose ur j2ee client displyname is testclient, u can use:
    runclient -client ConverterApp.ear -name testclient
    hope this will help u,
    babu.

  • "Running Oracle Spatial Web Services" tutorial error

    Hi,
    I am currently working on setting up the WFS service with OC4J. I completed the initial tutorial to set it up and everything went well. I am now trying to run the WFS demos from WSCLIENT and using this tutorial: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr1_db/datamgmt/spatialws/spatialws.htm.
    I just focused on the WFS Relational features and did the following:
    Ran @wfsrelmd.sql and users/tables/grants were all successful.
    Ran compileAndRunClient.bat runwfsct and the feature was created successfully.
    Ran compileAndRunClient.bat runwfsrel and received the following error in the OC4J server shell:

    I have no idea where this error is coming from and would really appreciate any help if any of these errors indicate a problem someone may know of.
    Thanks for your help!

    I never did solve the problem. I decided to try out GeoServer for WFS and am very impressed. It was much easier to install and pretty feature-filled as well with a lot of documentation. I would definitely suggest checking it out to see if it will fit your needs.

    I have been trying to follow the ejb tutorial off of Sun's web site. However, I get the following problem when I try to compile the sample code.

    Can anyone help me out as I have tried several books which conveniently skip the part about compiling errors.
    I noticed I don't have a CLASSPATH variable and then i created one with just '.' in it and that didn't work. any help would be appreciated as this is driving me crazy. Thanks.

  • Is it a bug in Sun's Tutorial example!!!!

    Hello everybody! I donno whether the following Tutorial example code is buggy or not but it won't run under j2sdk 1.4.2 and also under 1.5 as smoothly as Tutorial says(only the 1st line prints but not all). You can find the code:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/io/dataIO.html
    And the file name is:
    DataIODemo
    Does anyone know how to make it work?
    Thanks.

    The author made a "bonehead" error - s/he hardcoded a newline character ('\n') when writing the invoice1.txt file. Since this is a UNIX/Linux character, it will not cause an error when run there - BUT - when run on an OS that doesn't use that convention - Windows, etc - it results in an incorrectly written file.
    This illustrates a code portability problem; don't hardcode!
    I leave as an exercise for the reader the correction of the format of the total dollar amount.
    A corrected copy is below. //********* preceeds changes. Compare with the original to see the differences.

  • Applet from Sun's tutorial - can't get it to work

    Hi all - I'm new to Java
    Here's what I did so far:
    I installed the Sun ONE Studio CE.
    I downloaded the example .java files - ClickMe and Spot from the tutorial found at http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/concepts/practical.html
    Using Sun ONE Studio I compiled the two java files into class files.
    I created a html file called ClickMe.html and inserted the code from the tutorial page.
    Now when I open the page (using localhost or the filepath) the applet displays ok and no errors occure. However no red spots apear when I click somewhere in the applet.
    By searcing a little around I was led to beleive that it might have to do with setting the classpath so that the ClickMe.class which is called from the html file can find the Spot.class.
    In command promt I ran C:>set and found that CLASSPATH="\QTJava.zip"
    I then ran the command C:>set CLASSPATH=C:\sun-one-ide\sampledir\spot (which is the folder where the .java, .class and the .html file is on my computer).
    This a) did not help and b) when I restarted my computer was back to CLASSPATH="\QTJava.zip"
    I am running Windows XP professional.
    Am I doing something wrong? Or do I need to install something more like the JRE (I kind of thought that everything needed was installed with the studio)?

    Thank you for your reply. I tried everything you suggested. I checked "Show Java Console", and this is the error message that came when I tried to click inside the applet.
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Spot

         at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(Unknown Source)Seems like even though the spot.class file lies within the same folder, the ClickMe.class (which is the one that runs as an applet in the html file) can't find it. It again makes me wonder if the CLASSPATH have something to do with this (though I'm just guessing).
    If anyone got more suggestions I'd be very happy.

  • Stateless bean giving error when deployed through j2ee 1.3RI

    I have written a simple stateless bean and deployed through j2ee 1.3 RI
    Context initial = new InitialContext(h);
    Object obj = initial.lookup("SampleObject"); // SampleObject -jndi name
    SampleHome home = (SampleHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(obj, SampleHome.class);
    But when running the Client , getting the error

    at javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject.narrow(Unknown Source)     at SampleClient.main(SampleClient.java:27)
    Is it a system error or what

    Hi sessionbean,
    The most common cause of this exception is when the RMI-IIOP stubs are not found within the client's classpath. The client stubs are returned from the deployment step.
    Also, it's better to use the no-arg initial context constructor "new InitialContext()" and let the J2EE 1.3 RI code bootstrap the correct naming service.

    The Errors:
    All the errors I'm getting are saying "cannot resolve symbol"
    These errors seem to stem from the previous errors displayed:
    "package com.sun.j3d.utils.universe does not exist"
    Any ideas?

    You know, i found package com.sun.3d.util.universe.*
    It came in jar source code when i installed java3d. This jar called:
    java3d-utils-src.jar and it reside in my jdk 1.4 directory. I don't know where bytecodes though, but you don't need to include anything of 3d into your classpath. It should work if you installed everything properly. I remember that when i installed active-x it did not work. Then i installed open-g and never had any problems. Make sure you installed open-g (jre and sdk). I met posts about active-x not working before.
    My tutorials are working perfectly and source is exactly as you posted it.

  • Trouble understanding "BreakWithLabelDemo" (Sun Java Tutorial)

    Hi.
    I've been slowly working my way through all of the Sun Java tutorials, now I've come across one I just can't wrap my head around.
    It's the "BreakWithLabelDemo" tutorial located at [http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/nutsandbolts/branch.html] that is confusing me.
    class BreakWithLabelDemo {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            int[][] arrayOfInts = { { 32, 87, 3, 589 },
                                    { 12, 1076, 2000, 8 },
                                    { 622, 127, 77, 955 }
            int searchfor = 12;
            int i;
            int j = 0;
            boolean foundIt = false;
        search:
            for (i = 0; i < arrayOfInts.length; i++) {
                for (j = 0; j < arrayOfInts.length; j++) {
    if (arrayOfInts[i][j] == searchfor) {
    foundIt = true;
    break search;
    if (foundIt) {
    System.out.println("Found " + searchfor +
    " at " + i + ", " + j);
    } else {
    System.out.println(searchfor
    + " not in the array");
    Now it's not understanding what the +break+ statement does that's the problem, it's the nested +for+ loops they've used to demonstrate it that is, and in particularly the code.arrayOfInts[i].length;Now, could someone please enlighten me as to what this statement returns to be evaluated against the variable +j+.
    For instance does it simply return the length of the array +arrayOfInts+ and if so why is it referencing a specific element within the array denoted by the variable +i+ ? Also the array is multidimensional when it's declared and initialized and yet it's treated as a regular array in the code above? Why doesn't that throw an error?
    Any help walking me through this piece of code would be fantastic. Thank you.

    int[][] arrayOfInts = ...In effect arrayOfInts is a multidimensional array. But it's important to remember that Java has no notion of array dimension. It's just an array - an array consisting of three things in order: {32, 87, 3, 589}, {12, 1076, 2000, 8}, and {622, 127, 77, 955}. It just so happens that these elements are also arrays.
    Because it's just an array arrayOfInts also has a length. The length is three because there's three elements. It doesn't matter that each of the elements has a length 4, arrayOfInts has length 3.
    In this particular array the elements are also arrays, so it makes sense to ask what their length is. For instance, the last one, {622, 127, 77, 955}, is just arrayOfInts[2] and it has length 4. We can refer to its length as arrayOfInts[2].length and write code like:
    if(arrayOfInts[2].length == 4) {
        // this will be executed for the array in the example
    }Where arrays are multidimensional - in the sense that their elements are also arrays - they can be "ragged". For instance
    int[][] arrayOfInts = {
        {32, 87, 3, 589},
        {12},
        {622, 127, 77, 955, -1, 42, 5}
    };The array elements all have different lengths and that is why the inner for loop uses the expression j<arrayOfInts.length so that it loops through the correct number of elements of the i-th element of [i]arrayOfInts.

  • Why my refrencing value of  selectOneMenu to HashMap bean cause error?

    i use HashMap bean in my face-config xml to generate HashMap Bean and refrence it to my selectOneMenu , field "value" of selectedItems .
    evry thing is true and my combo box fill with my hashmap.
    but when i submit a form this error generate :

    can anybody help me ? i cann't solve this problem yet .
    thanx a lot

    Did you get this resolved? I've been working on this same problem. I haven't been able to get the HashMap to work, but using the selectItems (as mentioned above) DOES work!
    I used this site as a reference:
    http://jsf.iatp.org.ua/components/jsf_htmlselectmanylistbox.html
    I'll post some of the code in case the link goes bad (future) and someone would still like to see it...
    Static items .jsp page:
    <f:view>
         <h:selectManyListbox value="#{staticPageBean.selectedItems}" size="5">
              <f:selectItem itemValue="firstName" itemLabel="First Name" />
              <f:selectItem itemValue="lastName" itemLabel="Last Name" />
              <f:selectItem itemValue="age" itemLabel="Age" />
              <f:selectItem itemValue="sex" itemLabel="Sex" />
         </h:selectManyListbox>
         <h:commandButton value="Show Selected" actionListener="#{staticPageBean.showSelected}" />
         <h:outputText binding="#{staticPageBean.selItemsOutput}" />
    </f:view>
    The bean for that page
    public class StaticPageBean {
         //array of values of selected items
         private String[] selectedItems;
         private HtmlOutputText selItemsOutput;
         public void setSelectedItems(String[] items) {
              this.selectedItems = items;
         public String[] getSelectedItems() {
              return selectedItems;
         public void setSelItemsOutput(HtmlOutputText component) {
              selItemsOutput = component;
         public HtmlOutputText getSelItemsOutput() {
              return selItemsOutput;
         public void showSelected(ActionEvent actionEvent) {
              String str = "";
              int length = selectedItems.length;
              for(int i=0; i<length; i++) {
                   str += selectedItems[ i ]+"   ";
              selItemsOutput.setValue(str);
    To dynamically populate the select Items
    <h:selectManyListbox value="#{dynamicPageBean.selectedItems}" size="5">
         <f:selectItems value="#{dynamicPageBean.items}" />
    </h:selectManyListbox>
    Code behind that
    public class DynamicPageBean {
         //List of SelectItem instances
         private List items;
         public DynamicPageBean() {
              items = new ArrayList();
              SelectItem item = new SelectItem("firstName", "First Name");
              items.add(item);
              item = new SelectItem("lastName", "Last Name");
              items.add(item);
              item = new SelectItem("sex", "Sex");
              items.add(item);
              item = new SelectItem("ssn", "SSN");
              items.add(item);
         public void setItems(List items) {
              this.items = items;
         public List getItems() {
              return items;
    }
