I�m using SUn oNE Applciation Server and it request sun-ejb-jar.xml for this file when i deploy a ejb but i only have in the jar, generating by sun one studio , ejb-jar,xml , is it the same file?

Do i have to mention the connection Pool name anywhere .. My connection Pool name
is sql7Pool and my datasource name which i have mentioned is sqlTx. I am using
Sql server 7. I am deploying a jar file(not a war file) and accessng the EJB through
a Servlet. Please any help would definitely be appreciated.

I thought you were getting a class cast exception but the stack trace shows
a NullPointerException on line 38 of your servlet code. I am not sure if the
code that you have attached is the complete code or just snippets of your
complete code. Anyways, counting 38 lines in the code you attached points to
the line "mr =
mh.create(request.getParameter("login"),request.getParameter("name"));"
which could be because "mh" is null. Can you verify "mh" is not null and
also "objRef" is not null.
Attaching the stack trace for ClassCastException would be useful.

Deploying persistence.xml in ejb-jar componts

Hi,
If you are deploying ejb-jar components which are packaged independently and are remote components but they all access the same database, do you put the persistence.xml in the META-INF of each component (ejb-jar). If not, where would it go?
I can find lots of references to having a single persistence.xml with many configurations but if (theoretically) each bean is deployed on a separate JVM/Container how would it access the persistence.xml?

If you are deploying the EJB JARs to different Java EE servers, then yes, each EJB JAR needs its own persistence.xml. You would configure each Java EE server to point to the same JDBC resource.
If you are deploying them all to the same server, you should package the entity classes into a single JAR file, and include that JAR file in an EAR with the other EJB JARs. In that scenario, persistence.xml is in the JAR's META-INF directory. The JAR file can either be in the top-level of the EAR, or in the EAR's library directory. In this case, the scope of the persistence unit is the entire EAR.

Weblogic-cmp-jar.xml and EJB 1.1

I am working on migrating a number of components from JBoss to WebLogic 10. Some of these components are using EJB 1.1. I want to do the migration without having to updated to EJB 2.0 or EJB 3.0.
I have looked at the documentation for WebLogic 10 and understand that you need to use weblogic-cmp-jar.xml when using EJB 1.1. The problem is that I can not find an example of the weblogic-cmp-jar.xml. The documentation doesn't appear to fully document what the xml needs to look like.
Would someone be able to provide me with a simple example of the weblogic-cmp-jar.xml for use with EJB 1.1?

Errors compiling EJBModule_InformationEJB.

Hep, we have the same problem. I am still trying to figure out why. I have some idea about the reason but I am testing my founding. It seems to me that the problem shows up when I add my database driver in Runtime/Databases/drivers tree (IBM DB2 driver: db2jcc.jar)
Like I am saying I am still checking the connection. When I am convinced that indeed that is the problem, I will then try to find out why and what to do to make my life easier.

Hello all, we are thinking about migrating from JBoss to WebLogic server, so as a proof of concept I am trying to migrate a JBoss Seam web application to WebLogic server.

The MyApplication.jar is where we keep all the models and we are using an exploded folder for the ear file. We have declared all the classes to be entities by using the @Entity and @Table annotations and we have also defined an interceptor in the ejb-jar.xml file (shown below).

I have tried to compile everythign from scratch by using weblogic.appc but I am getting the same error: No EJBs found in the ejb-jar file 'ejbModule'. Please ensure the ejb-jar contains EJB declarations via an ejb-jar.xml deployment descriptor or at least one class annotated with the @Stateless, @Stateful or @MessageDriven EJB annotation.
Any ideas what is going on and how I can resolve the issue?

I am working on development an enterprise application using EJB 3.0 on Weblogic 10.
While developing, I am keeping all my classes (from ejb's as well as web) into APP-INF/classes directory. It is working fine for Web and ejb 2.0 packages, but ejb 3.0 packages, I get the following error when I keep my ejb 3.0 beans classes in APP-INF/classes directory.
No EJBs found in the ejb-jar file 'customer'. Please ensure the ejb-jar contains EJB declarations via an ejb-jar.xml deployment descriptor or at least one class annotated with the @Stateless, @Stateful or @MessageDriven EJB annotation.
One solution is to keep the classes under customer ejb directory, but I wan tto keep all the classes in APP-INF/classes directory so that when using Eclipse IDE I can output all compiled sources into APP-INF/classes directory.
Has anyone faced this situation? Any suggestions to fix this issue?

EJB Client JAR project produces empty JAR

I've built an EJB module in WorkSpace Studio using the "WebLogic EJB Project" type, which is part of an EAR. I created a couple stateless session beans within this project, and then created an EJB Client JAR project using the "EJB Client JAR-->Create EJB Client Jar" menu item on the EJB project's hidden menu.
According to the documentation, exporting an EAR file from the EAR project will cause the client JAR to be generated. I exported the EAR file from the EAR project, and sure enough, it included the client JAR (in /APP-INF/lib/). I extracted the client JAR from the EAR and opened it up to make sure it contained all of the client-side classes. I discovered that the client JAR was empty, the only contents being the MANIFEST.MF file. The interface classes were instead contained in the EJB JAR itself.
How can I get the EJB client code to actually be included in the EJB client JAR?

Well I have tried this with 6.1 and first
1. One would expect the jar name to be the name in the ejb-jar.xml -
ejb-client-jar section
2. It outputs the file XXXEJB_Compiled.jar but it is same size as base jar
this is 6.1 sp3

Including utility jar when packing ejb in weblogic

Hi,
I am new to j2ee programming. I have an ejb which uses some utility jars. I followed the bea documents to structure the directory. The directory structure is, like,
EjbProject
- classes
--com
---mine
----projectTracking --> has the class files of the ejb and supporting java files
- src
--com
---mine
----projectTracking --> contains the source files of the ejb and the supporting java files
META-INF > contains ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
The source java files are dependent on an utility jar file.
so when I try the java weblogic.appc src, it throws me exception saying the utility file is missing. My question , is where should I put this utility jar file. Please send me your thoughts.

you can put your utility jar in the ear file along with the EJBs and make a classpath entry to these files in the EJB jar's META-INF\Manifest.mf file. As you said if you are working with weblogic you can put these files any where in the directory structure and place the entry in the startWeblogic.cmd file. But i recomend first option.

Client Jar packing with common-ant.xml - Why is (EJ)Bean class included ?

I'm using for all my projects the same build mechanism as in the samples.
This property
<property name="add.ejbjarclasses.to.clientjar" value="true"/> let Ant copy the EJB classes into the client jar. Fine so far.
But I've seen in my projects and in the samples, that the client jars not only contain the necessary home and remote classes, they also contain the (EJ) Bean class.
Why?
*1.)* Is this just a snugness in the ant tasks of common-ant.xml or is there good reason for this?
*2.)* Are you ignoring that or do you prevent somehow, that this not necessary class is in the client jar.

The <empty> target list will appear whenever JDeveloper has trouble parsing the Ant XML document. In this case, it is because of the reference to the common-build.xml file. See the thread named "Building with Ant" in this forum, where this issue was recently discussed:

The end result of that discussion was that, due to a bug in JDeveloper, you need to specify the full URI to the included file. In a future release we will allow the use of relative URI's.

Common JAR file between EJB and WAR inside an EAR

Hi,
I'm trying to deploy an EAR application outside the development environment and I have the following problem.
My EAR has the following structure :
application.ear
|-- ejbs.jar
|-- web.war
Inside the WAR, in /WEB-INF/lib/, I have a set of JAR files that are used by the Web app and also, of course, by the EJB.
During the deployment step, EJB module cannot be deployed because it miss some classes into the classpath.
I think it is a common problem in J2EE development, so does someone has a solution for this problem ?
Please note I'm using Macromedia JRun 4 SP1 on Windows XP.

I have found a solution that seems elegant to me. I'm going to try and explain...
My appli.jar EJB module and my appli.war Web module are using both two JAR, let's say common.jar and util.jar.
The way to share those JAR between the two modules is to have the following structure for the EAR :
appli.ear
|-- appli.jar
|-- appli.war
|-- common.jar
|-- util.jar
|-- META-INF
|-- application.xml
|-- manifest.mfIn this structure :
* the common.jar and the util.jar are not part of the WAR (/web-inf/lib)
* the manifest.mf file has the following content :
Manifest-Version: 1.0
Created-By: My Application
Class-Path: common.jar util.jarPlease note that space is used as separator for the classpath entry to allow independancy from OS.
And you know what ? It works ! Well, on Macromedia JRun 4.0 SP1 and on Windows XP but I hope it works on other platforms.
I hope it will help a lot of people because I spent a lot of time before to find a solution !

My ejb application can't see jar files

I am using JBoss 2.4.3 as my EJB server. I have followed the instructions in the documentation about making jar files visible to my ejb application. ie, I have an ear file with the following contents:
meta-inf/application.xml
meta-inf/Manifest.mf
myEJB.jar
myWAR.war
lib/myUtilities.jar
The classes inside myEJB.jar reference classes inside myUtilities.jar. The myEJB.jar contains a manifest file that looks like this:
Manifest-Version: 1.0
Created-By: Ant 1.4
Class-Path: lib/myUtilities.jar
But the classLoader spits a dummy and gives me a NoClassDefFoundError when the a method is called in the ejb that references the classes in myUtilities.jar. And yes, there is a carriage return after the Class-Path line. I've also tried it with ./lib/myUtilities.jar but with no luck. And I've tried putting it into the myEJB.jar, which (expectedly) didn't work.
The only way the classes in myUtilities.jar can be visible is by putting the jar into the jboss lib/ext directory, which is not recommended.
Any help is desperately appreciated.

Can you please try placing your "myUtilities.jar" in the root.
I mean your ear file with
myEJB.jar
myUtilities.jar
And dont forget to add the following entry in
meta-inf/Manifest.mf in your myEJB.jar
Your meta-inf/Manifest.mf shld consist of
Class-Path: ./myUtilities.jar
I think this can solve your problem

Problems with OC4J EJB deployment and the data-sources.xml file

I am running 2 Windows 2000 Machines one with the 8.1.7 database another with iAS 1.0.2.2.1 and OC4J.
I am trying to deploy a 3rd party EJB-based application whic seems to have deployed successfully except when I try to test the EJB deployment via a jsp it can't connect to the database, giving the error:

I have followed the instructions in 'EJB Primer' and 'Using Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE' to no avail. And I can't find any meaningfull data-sources.xml samples. I have been struggling with this for some time.
Is there any other file, do I need to bind anything?

Where to put utility jar (used by EJB's and war)

Hello all,
In many cases when you create a web application including EJB's and a WAR file packaged together in an EAR file, you need some utility classes that are used in the EJB's as wel as in the servlets in the WAR. The utility classes might for example be value object classes that servlets use to exchange data with te EJB's.
My question is: What is the best place to put the utility class files?
There is a new article on JDC: http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2EE/build/ that gives some tips. For example, it proposes to put the utility JAR in the EAR file and then add a "Class-Path:" entry to the MANIFEST.MF of the EJB's that use the utility classes.
However, this approach does not work on BEA Weblogic 6.0. Weblogic's classloader just seems to ignore the "Class-Path:" in the EJB JAR's manifest.
Any thoughts?

The "CLASS-PATH" mechanism in that article is a new
requirement in J2EE 1.3 (final draft 4). Therefore
right now Weblogic does not support it yet. Now you
need to put those utility classes in both the WAR (in
WEB-INF/lib) and EJB JAR files. If you really want
only 1 copy of the jar file deployed, you can manually
add that jar file to weblogic server classpath in the
start script under config/yourdomain.HI all,

It's difficult to explain unless the J2EE architecture is understood. Also, explaining things like load balancing, Transactions, tuning, are bit vague and could blow the disk space of this site.
To get started, the best way is to test the sample applications and the best part is you don't require internet connection to follow each steps. Install iWS and iAS, open browser, type in http://hostname:port/ias-samples/index.html. You can find links to the sample applications bundled. Please follow the steps given on deploying the application. This will enable you to a higher level.
