Sun OS 5.6 to 5.8 migration

Hi,
We have migrated our server operating system from Sun OS 5.6 to 5.8.
I beleive the 32 bit to 64 bit migration. What i need to know what are the changes in codes i will have to do for C programs for them to function in the new OS.
I have heard i will have to explicitly type cast all sting functions
Are there any other changes to be done from a code point of view.
Cheers
Krishnan

The "Solaris 64-bit Developers Guide" can help you.

  • Sun java calendar 6.3 to CALDAV migration problem

Hi guys, could you help us?
We tried to migrate users from calendar 6.3 to calendar 7U1 (formally known as calendar for CALDAV clients), but we were not successful.
Users were located in LDAP (version 6.3.1 on Solaris 10 x64) and had values in LDAP in following format:
    dn: uid = user,dc=example,dc=com
    mail = user_name@domain
    Problem resides in following:
    1. start of migration:
    davadmin migration -a user@domain -F clifile -c
    2. in master.log (migration log) we saw
[user_name@domain] Fetch of user preferences failed for user_name@domain -
[user_name@domain] Migration did not complete successfully.
    Migration complete.
    3. in LDAP access log we saw, that first search with filter "mail: user_name@domain" was successful, but in following - second search we saw that uid is garbled - "uid=user@domain". User with "uid=user@domain" was not in LDAP. But after some trying we found out that the problem was in domain part. When we tried get_userprefs.wcap in browser with uid without domain part (uid=user) we got relevant information, because such entry existed in our LDAP.
So the question is: Is there any way how to remove domain part from uid during LDAP search?
    Many thanks.
    LV.

Hi guys, thank you very much for your answer.
There is a typo in my previous post, in step 1, I'm sorry.
We run migration with following command:
davadmin migration -a user_name@domain -F clifile ..... (user is defined in format of "user_name@domain" - mail format and not in format user@domain how I wrongly wrote last time).
Btw., when we use format user@domain ( format uid@domain) we get error which is talking about "Unknown user". This is correct because such user does not exist in our LDAP.
When we use format user_name@domain we get error which was described in my previous post.
Could you tell us, how to check legacy mode in our sun calendar 6.3 installation?
    Many thanks.
    LV.

  • Migrating to solaris 2.8 to 8.0

Does someone can tell me where i can find information about
migration from solaris 2.6 to 8.0 concerning C and C++ programs and shell scripts
    Thanks you in advance
    sunsifac

Please try docs.sun.com. You could find C++ Migration Guide there. As to C, the binary interface for C compiler hasn't changed in years. As such, .o's compiled with any of the compiler versions(From old version workshop 5.0 to the current Sun One Studio 8) should link with .o's from any other versions.
    Not sure about script.

  • Convergence - Is schema 1 supported by SUN Support

    Hi,
I'm gonna migrate from Sun Java System 2005Q4 to Sun Communication Suite 6.
The actual DS is using Schema 1.
I've tried to not use schema 1 andit works.
As we are going to buy SUN Support, I would like to know if schema 1 is supported by SUN Support or do I need to migrate to schema 2 ?
    Regards.

The actual DS is using Schema 1. If you are not using Schema 2 then that means you cannot be using Delegated Administrator to provision accounts. I assume then you are manually provisioning accounts/groups/resources/domains using some other mechanism?
I've tried to not use schema 1 andit works.
As we are going to buy SUN Support, I would like to know if schema 1 is supported by SUN Support or do I need to migrate to schema 2 ?Schema 1 is definitely supported by Convergence:
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite6U1/Convergence+1+Update+1+Initial+Configuration
    <snip>
In a Schema 1 directory layout, Convergence uses the DC Tree suffix to search for domain information. In a Schema 2 directory layout, there is only one root suffix; both domain and user/group data are located under this one suffix.
    </snip>

  • Best Practice for migration to Exadata2

    Hi Guru,
I'm thinking to migrate an Oracle RAC 11g (11.2.0.2) on HP/UX Itanium cluster machine to a New Exadata 2 System
Are there best practice? Where can I found documentation about migration?
    Thanks very much
    Regards

There are several docs available on MOS
HP Oracle Exadata Migration Best Practices [ID 760390.1]
Oracle Exadata Best Practices [ID 757552.1]
Oracle Sun Database Machine X2-2/X2-8 Migration Best Practices [ID 1312308.1]
If you already have Exadata, I recommend to open an SR with Oracle and engage with ACS.

  • Migration Oracle 7 to Oracle Rdb

There are quite a few forum discussions here for migrating just about any database under the sun to Oracle. I require to migrate an Oracle 7 database to Oracle Rdb on OpenVMS Alpha. Does anyone have any experience/suggestions/tips for proceding with this type of migration?

    Hi James,
Unfortunately this forum predominantly deals with migrations from non-Oracle environements to Oracle. I recommend you contact Oracle RDB support.

  • Sun IDM vs Oracle IDM

    Hi Everyone,
The current version of IDM we are at is 6.0. We are thinking of the following options:
    1. Upgrade Sun IDM 6.0 -- IDM 8.1
    2. Migrate to latest Oracle IDM.
Could someone please let me know the pros/cons in considering one over the other options?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
A very interesting question but not one that can be answered easily.
As Oracle is in the process of buying Sun then the future of both products is uncertain. Sun IDM might survive or Oracle IDM might survive or the future Oracle IDM product may be a combination of both. I do not believe that we will see a resolution to this for at least 6 months. Even then it will only be an annoucement.
I also do not see an major improvements in either product until there is greater certainty of what will be the future product.
For your particular circumstance I would upgrade from Sun IDM 6.0 -- IDM 8.1. The main reasons are as follows:
    - Software currency. IDM 6.0 is no longer supported.
    - The upgrade is free of licencing costs.
    - Improved functionaility of the latest version of Sun IDM.
    - Little training is required
Migrating to Oracle IDM would not be a trivial task and would probably include significant cost eg training, licensing and potentially hardware.
    I hope this helps

  • Migration from Oracle Collaboration Suite

    Hello all.
I am having some trouble to migrate an Oracle Collaboration Suite from one server to another one. We are seriously considering to migrate to Sun Collab instead. Is it possible to use Oracle Collab's directory, mail and calendar information? Is it possible to import to Sun Collab?
    Thanks in advance

=> The directory data would need to be modified/translated/mapped into the appropriate form for Sun Collaboration Suite user accounts.
=> The Oracle calendar information could be exported in ICS format then re-imported into Sun Calendar.
So theoritically it should be possible although it would require a significant amount of testing and development of tools/scripts to assist in the process if you have a large number of users.

  • Migrating config information from a 6.1 server to a new 7.0 server

We have multiple web sites on a Sun One server we wish to upgrade. In our plan, we want to install a new server with Solaris 10 on it and Install version 7 of the Sun One server. How do we migrate the config information from the older server onto the new server without manually recreating it all?
    Edited by: Rick_PSU on Jan 2, 2008 9:48 AM

Despite the 'Web' in the name, this forum is not closely focused on either servers or configuring them. JWS is a technology for launching rich client apps. (to the end-user).
You might have better luck on one of the forums listed under 'Enterprise and Remote Computing' or 'Web Tier APIs'.

  • How can I force a re-creation of Access Manager's DIT?

    Good day foks,
I'm deploying SJS AM 7 as part of a wider JES2005Q4 deploymeny.
I accidentally deleted the contents of the ou=People context in DS where the AM installation created, among others, my amAdmin account.
I can't restore the content from backup because I had added new indices to my DS directory.
I can't re-create the user by re-configuring using amconfig or by re-installing using the installer GUI because the procedure detects the old DIT.
So can anyone tell me how to force the re-creation of the DIT?
    Thank-you for reading this.
    Cheers,
    Etienne

I've used the procedure described in the Sun Java System Access Manager 6 2005Q1 migration guide (817-7645.pdf), p47 of 98, "Configuring the Directory Server schema files". By re-importing the client data files manually, the amAdmin and the anonymous users got re-created.
I don't know whether this procedure maintains consistency between amAdmin, anonymous on one part and the rest of the schema updates and data added on the other part. If anyone does know, I'd be glad to hear about it.

  • Good Java System Directory Server book?

Does anyone know of a good book (or books) for getting up to speed on the Sun Java System stack? I am migrating from Linux and Windows-based apps to the Sun stack and need to hit the books hard to get up to speed, but can't find much of anything newer than 2002 on Amazon.
    Specifically looking for:
    - Directory Server
    - Web Application server
    - Messaging Server
    - JMS
    Anyone have any ideas?

Well, the first place I go is http://docs.sun.com where I can either search or browse the html versions or download the PDFs of the product manuals. Beyond that I do like Michael Haines and Tom Bialaski's LDAP in the Solaris Operating Environment: Deploying Secure Directory Services book. It came out in 2004 and covers Directory Server 5.2 (I think it was patch 2 then, now we run patch 4 here...)

  • Oracle 8i linux version

    Dear all
I got a Oracle 8i EE license and was installed at a Sun system. However, I want to migrate such Oracle to Linux environment (The Oracle maintenance was expired). So, anyone has the Oracle 8i EE Linux version which can be downloaded for my new installation.

You still should contact your Oracle sales representative.
Oracle no longer officially provides copies of obsolete versions of software, such as database versions 8.1.x or 9.0.x ... the only way to get such copies is by the kindness of strangers who might have such copies. Those strangers include your sales rep.

  • Upgrade DS 4.12 to DS 6.3

    Hi all,
Can anyone tell me whether its possible to upgrade Directory Server 4.12 to Directory Server 6.3? Or will have to upgrade to 5.x before I can make the jump to 6.3?
    Thanks,
    DJC.

Yes, the first step is to get to a supported version like 5.2, http://docs.sun.com/source/816-6697-10/upgrade.html.
Then move to the latest and greatest as in http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-4808/migrate.

  • What happened to my stats

I used to use the login name kilyas back in the sun forums. When these forums were migrated from sun to here were the stats (no of posts etc) were they not migrated alongwith, and information such as join date etc?
This would be totally absurd if I have to start all over again. I used the same email address to login but don't see any of that information.

    dbThanks Darryl,
    1) Do I need to change my screen name or would that take place as the migration happens?
    2) In case I need to manually change the screen name do I need to change it to something in specific or the previous screen name?
Thanks again!Supposedly the screen name is irrelevant in the migration. It's the email that's supposed to matter. If you created an account here by 10 Sep. with the same email as your Sun account, then your Sun posts were supposed to have been pegged to the new account here. However, at least a couple of us (JoachimSauer and myself at the very least) did that, and still don't have our old posts pegged to our new accounts.
There's also some discussion here: The migration has started
I guess the mods have contacted Yolande, and I also emailed her a week or week and a half ago. All I've heard is that she's going to talk to the tech folks involved. Thanks for the update JVerd. Well I registered on Sep 24th, which was way after Sep 10th that you mentioned. I hope that doesn't equate to "No Transfers". But anyway its amazing how this whole migration is taking place.

  • Upgrade to Oracle 10gR2 from 8i

Hello, i'm going to install Oracle 10gR2 on Sun Solaris SPARC64 and i have to migrate user schema and related application software in Pro*C language.
Which are the issues to consider in order to avoid compilation errors and/or run time errors.
    Thanks for your help.

Direct upgrade to 10g is possible from the latest 8i version (8.1.7.4). In case you are below this patch level, first you must upgrade to this and then upgrade to 10g.
In case 32 bit conversions are involved, you must consider the utlip.sql script which must be run during the upgrade phase.
I suggest you to read Metalink Note 316889.1 where a Complete checklist for manual upgrades to 10gR2 is detailed.
