Sun Role Manager v5.0.3 performance tuning on Apache Tomcat server

hello everyone,
We currently have SRM v4.1 in production running on Tomcat. This has major performance issues. A single page for app owner certfication takes approx 10 minutes to load. The current version is now being upgraded to 5.0.3 on Tomcat 6. Are there any new features/configurations available in SRM 5.0.3 for better performance (on tomcat)? Has anyone tried optimizing the performance of v5? Any server settings I need to look at? Any pointers will be highly helpful.

Where's your database for this located? On the same server or another server? It is more likely the database than Glassfish being the weak and slow link here unless badly tuned GC is taking up all the CPU cycles.

  • Problem installing Sun Role Manager 5.0.3

    Hi All,
I've set up Sun Role Manager 5.0.3 (The Oracle Identity Analytics branded version)
I'm using Tomcat 5.5 and Oracle database 11.1.0.6
The issue occurs during start up. I get a bunch of errors which I'll list below. It looks like a database connectivity problem but I am not exactly sure. I'm pretty sure my jdbc.properties file is correct, except maybe the password.
Can anyone help work out what exactly is wrong here?
    Cheers,

    Hi,
Make sure you have the correct URL setup in the jdbc.properties (MSSQL-specific) and make sure the database driver is within the Web-INF/lib folder. Make sure the DB server is running also

  • Performance Tuning Guidelines for Windows Server 2008 R2 mistake?

    Hi all,
I'm reading the "Performance Tuning Guidelines for Windows Server 2008 R2" and I think there is same kind of error. At page 53 there is a sub chapter "I/O Priorities" that explain how to handle I/O priorities.
In the guide it is said that in the registry I have to have a key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\{Device GUID}\DeviceParameters\Classpnp\
Where {Device GUID} I think it is the value I get in device manager under one of my disks -> properties -> details -> "Device Class GUID"
the trouble is that under the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\ I've no subkey matching my disk's device class guid! Maybe I'm drunk but I've checked every sub key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\
but neither of them as a subkey named "DeviceParameter"!!
    So am I wrong?

    Hi Andrea,
To find the "DeviceParameter", please try to follow the steps below:
1.Find this registry key and note the DeviceInstance value:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\
2.Find the device instance registry key under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum" which contains information about the devices on the system and get the device interface GUID:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\<hardware id>\<instance id>\Device Parameters
    I hope this helps.

  • Sun Role manager question.

    Hi,
    1. Does Sun IDM 7.1 support SRM 5.0.3?
    2. Does Sun IDM 8.1 support SRM 4.1?
I am not able to find this information anywhere. Please assist.
    Thanks,
    Santoshanand

IDM is used for managing the identities (User). It manages the full cycle of user CREATE -> MODIFY - > DELETE
Role Manager manages the entitlements of the target applications.
Integration of both tools are required because if someone has 3k-5K-10K roles/entitlements then it is very difficult to manage through IDM. So we manage these through Role Manager (OIA). We can also generate reports and do certification on role through Role Manager.
For detailed description, go through OIA docs.

  • SUN IDM 8.1.0.3: performance tuning on SPARC platform

    Hi all!
In our environment we have SUN IDM 8.1.0.3 on Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120 Server, 4 Core 1.2GHz UltraSPARC T2 processor, 4GB FBDIMM memory (4 1GB). As application server we use Sun GlassFish 2.1. In this configuration we have noticed that there is some performance issue: all IDM web pages are opened very slowly. For example, opening the page “Roles - > List Roles” takes about 20 seconds whereas in the virtual machine with 2.4 GHz x86 CPU and 1 Gb RAM opening this page takes about 3 seconds.
I have performed Java JVM tuning on Sparc machine and has obtained throughput about 98% but the page is still open slow.
I assume that problem is in the GlassFish tuning on Sparc platform.
Does anybody have an experience in the GlassFish tuning on Sparc platform and can give some advice or links how I can do this?
Or maybe anybody has other idea than tuning on Sparc platform which cause this performance issue?
    Any ideas are welcome.
    Thanks’ in advance!

Where's your database for this located? On the same server or another server? It is more likely the database than Glassfish being the weak and slow link here unless badly tuned GC is taking up all the CPU cycles.

    Thiago, Thanks for your response.
For your 1st answer - this application is in production for couple of years and we are seeing this error only for past few days. do you still think it might be a deployment issue.
For your 2nd Ans: this seems to be related to our env. can you give some more details on this as to what exactly needs to be done. sorry I've not worked much on WebLogic.
Below is the exception stack trace i got from stdout log, please see if you get any clue out of this. this seems to be some class loader issue but i don't know the fix. I have also seen in different forums that this might be a defect in Quartz Scheduler. We are getting a NoClassDefFoundError but the specified class file is in WEB-INF\lib dir, and also the missing class file name in the error is different when each time this error occurs, in the sense, this time the error is com.vaau.rbacx.scheduling.executor.rme.RoleStatusAndMembershipMaintenanceJobExecutor not found and when we restarted the server next time it gives org/springframework/orm/ibatis/SqlMapClientTemplate$10 is not found and so on.

  • BO Authentication with Sun Access Manager

    Post Author: aboucher
    CA Forum: Authentication
    Hi,
Is there a way to use Sun Access Manager (Role base) with BO. We are using XIR2 but we are willing to move to XIR3 if this version can do this job. I know that BO can be configured with LDAP, AD, Enterprise but is there a Custom choice. Any idea?
    Thanks

    Post Author: TAZ
    CA Forum: Authentication
So quickly reviewing sun access manager it doesn't seem to be an LDAP server per se. It's more like a portal used for SSO. If that's the case then you would integrate LDAP accounts and then use technology like trusted authentication for SSO from the sun access maanger portal. In that case trusted auth will support just about any front end as long as the user info can be forwarded to us in one of 7 methods. You can read more about trusted authentication in the XIR2 deployment guide
    http://support.businessobjects.com/documentation/product_guides/default.asp
Integrations of this level typically involvel in depth planning and should probably be done with the assistance of a BO consultant.
    Regards,
    Tim

  • Getting error while opening Sun access manager console

We are facing problem while accessing console of Sun Access Manager. We got No Page Found error whenever we try to access the Sun Access Manager console. We have tried restarting the directory server and web server but even that doesnt help us. Following are the error that gets recorded in log files:-
ERROR: AuthD init() com.iplanet.dpro.session.SessionException: AuthD failed to get auth session
ERROR: Error creating service session java.lang.NullPointerException

The ns-slapd.exe process belongs to the Directory Server. You should therefore check if your DS instance is set up properly.

Thanks for your responses. We are not doing the load testing. We have a linux server on which Oracle 11g running. We would like to simulate the real time work environment on which we train people to perform the performance tuning tasks.Performance tuning tasks comprise of Server tuning,Oracle parameter tuning and SQL tuning.
Request you to provide inputs on the approach we need to take up for setting up such kind of lab.

  • Can i use "Oracle Database 12c: Performance Management and Tuning " training for getting certification on "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning 1Z0-054"

i have taken "Oracle Database 12c: Performance Management and Tuning new" training from oracle university. Now i would like to get certified on "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning 1Z0-054" exam. Is it possible ?

I essentially endorse and refer you to Matthews' and John's post above.
I would differ with slightly with Matthew because my guess is you would often be able to use like for like 12c training for an 11g certification ( I believe there are precedents).  BEFORE ANYONE ASKS THE OTHER WAY DOESN'T HAPPEN.
.... but totally concur with Matthew you would ill advised to procede on that basis without one of:
    - This being advertised as possible on the website : e.g. https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=654&get_params=p_id:169 ... option 2 show courses.
    - Confirmation from Brandye
    - Confirmation from an Oracle Certification Support Web Ticket ( http://education.oracle.com/pls/eval-eddap-dcd/OU_SUPPORT_OCP.home?p_source=OCP )
... The more common (and in my opinion usually better) way would be get your 11g DBA OCP ( or higher first) and then take the 1z0-054.  I am almost certain they will accept your 12c course for the 11g DBA OCP.
If you are choosing the route of not being a 11g (or 12c ) DBA OCP first but are on option 2 and relying on the course for certification then the issue is more in the balance and you are even more strongly advised to get confirmation before proceding (remember if the rules need to be changed for you only then any profit out of the exam is lost).
In general my understanding is Oracle would prefer to encourage people to train on the latest version of product that is available for training  and will prefer to avoid restrictions which would cause you to train at a lower version.  ( This is simply my guess at Oracle University Policy ... personal opinion only).
Having said all I have said I'd encourage you to go with the advice of the earlier two posts.

  • Integrate IdM roles with Sun Access Manager roles

    Hi all,
I am currently working on a solution involving Sun Identity Manager 7.1 and Sun Access Manager 7.1 as well. We use AM for overall authentication and SSO across the application, and IdM for user provisioning.
I need to create roles in Identity Manager, and I would like that when I assign a role to a user in Identity Manager, he gets the same role in my Access Manager repository (Sun LDAP). Identity Manager does provide a way to set attribute values in resources when a role is set. Access Manager on the other hand has both dynamic roles, based on an LDAP search, and static roles.
What are the important differences between static and dynamic roles in AM?
Does anybody know a good way to propagate roles from Identity Manager to Access Manager?
    Thanks.

I found answers to my question. I succeeded in setting the Access Manager role from Identity Manager using the nsRoleDN attribute. Here are some references to begin with:
    About directory server roles:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-2493/fvbrn?a=view
    Forum thread reference:
    http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5208694
Here are roughly the steps I followed to get this working.
    Access Manager roles setup:
    1. In Access Manager, create a new static role named test_role under the identities realm (in Subjects > Role).
    Identity Manager roles setup:
    1. Create a new role in Identity Manager: tab Roles, click New....
    2. Assign the LDAP resource to synchronize the role with.
    3. On the Assigned Resources line, click the Set Attributes Values button. This shows up the attributes listing allowing you to bind your IdM role to your LDAP repository.
    4. Set the attribute nsRoleDN to the LDAP DN of the role that was created in AM (nsRoleDN must be added in the resource attributes mapping before).
    * In the column Value override, select Text.
    * In the column How to set, select Authoritative merge with value, clear existing. (* See IDM Admin guide about this setting, I am still not sure how it reacts with multi-value attributes)
    * In the text box, enter the role DN text (ex: cn=test_role,dc=com).
    5. Save the role. You can now add the role to a user.

  • What are the best practices for Database management and performance tuning?

    Hello,
I want to ensure that I am using the best practices for managing and maintaining our Database.
Is there any documentation out there that outlines how to maintain and ensure top performance out of our database?
    Thank you!
    John Sefton

I appreciate the responses, however this is not the information I am looking for.
I am specificaly looking for best practices invloving the managment and performance tuning.
Example: are their tools that I can install that will monitor the size and response time of the database and alert me if there is degradation in performance?
Are there specific periodic activities I should be doing to garuntee that my database will continue to function that way it is supposed to?
Or is this a fire and forget solution that does not need this attention?
