Support for  Operators like [Between] in ADF QP for String Attributes

All,
In the ADF Query Panel there is no support provided for operators like BETEWEEN, NOT BETWEEN, >= and <= etc for attributes of type String. On the Oracle Database we can execute queries like
SQL> select ename from emp where ename between 'A' and 'C';
ENAME
ALLEN
BLAKE
ADAMS
SQL> select ename from emp where ename <= 'B';
ENAME
ALLEN
ADAMS
The reason I am asking this question is for fusion we expose KeyFlexfields in an ADF Query Panel. Teams like GL store numeric values as Strings/Varchar2 type in the database and would like to perform operations like BETWEEN on strings. Is there a way this can be accomplished.

Yes, here is a list of keyboards:

You turn them on in system preferences/language & text/input sources.  Fonts take care of the themselves.

You would usually use this as a WebService through the WSDL that is exposed.
JDeveloper can help you create a Java Proxy to call the Web service if you point it to the WSDL file that was generated for your AM.

Photos does not support external editing like iPhoto. Is there likely to be an upgrade to change this or will I abandon Photos for software that does support editing in Photoshop?

iPhoto does work and there is an upgrade:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

In theory, yes. If you configure the two base station into either an extended or roaming network configuration, you should be able to walk a laptop between routers and the laptop should attempt to connect/reconnect to the base station providing the stronger signal ... but, in reality, this is not always 100% true.

  • Hi, I would like to buy CS 2 for my older G4 or G5 imacs, Is CS 2 still supported, and do I still need an activation code?

Hi, I would like to learn to use CS 2 or parts of it and I'm wondering what all I would need to do this?
I have the older ppc macs, and osx 10.3.8.. I figure it would be a great way to learn how to use the software without investing too much cash until I see if it is to my liking or not. The cloud thing I haven't looked into at all yet as I connect to the internet by satellite and it isn't the best but is the fastest available of the 2 choices of how to connect I have in my location .

They sure do not like ebay, whew! They also try everything possible to try and get one to sign up for something so expensive that it is prohibitive for someone like my self who is just learning and has too many commitments to devote full time to learning and using the software. Oh well, I'll find a legit copy and learn anyway with only the support of these user forums.
Thanks Steve, it has been good to learn.

  • Will Firefox, apparently like Chrome, be ceasing updates for computers without SSE2 support?

Firefox is my chosen browser, but for web design purposes I also have Google Chrome. I have however, like others, begun to receive a message from Chrome stating that very soon my computer will no longer receive updates because its hardware is no longer supported. Chrome like, Firefox 28.0 - that I have - states a minimum CPU requirement of Pentium 4 or better: Firefox has specified this much since as I recall 2011, but my old laptop, which I use for almost all my computer activities, including web design, uses a Pentium III Mobile and runs Firefox perfectly well. The specific concern with Chrome, however, which is now I see specified for Firefox 28.0, is a CPU that supports SSE2: my laptop's CPU supports only SSE (and MMX), but as I say works perfectly well with FF28.0. So, will FF be ending support for computers of my harware specification (SSE rather than SSE2 or better)?

A "Pentium 4 or newer processor that supports SSE2" is recommended, not a strict requirement. The PC hardware requirements haven't changed since Firefox 4.0, released on March 22nd, 2011.

The only reference I can find to this change being proposed was around the time Firefox 4 was released. Given that it hasn't happened yet, and Firefox 29 is right around the corner, I'd say there's no need to worry about it in the immediate future.

Does anyone else have battery life problems with the iOS6 update? Some of my other apps crash constantly, bringing my reading or workflow back to the home screen. The new map App is a disaster! Is there an online petition to have Apple bring back the Google map app? It is like asking a blind man for driections! Addresses, postal codes, locations, area codes and phone numbers in the Vancouver BC area are consistently wrong! AUUUUUGGGHHHHHHH!

I was considering th next iPhone but from reading your review I may consider this device instead. What I need to know is this. When the phone is in a phone holder which you have in a car for example does the screen get pressed at the sides? I don't wan't to open up Waze put my phone in a holder and it get cancelled out by what it thinks is a button press. Also, is the screen goign to be scratched easy? I am guessing there is no decent screen guards yet. I did buy some screen protection liquid that was recommended on these forums and my lumia still got scratched by about an inch or so.

  • Network LOD support for All Paths between 2 nodes

In the in-memory Network API, there is a method NetworkManager.allPaths. This method returns available paths between 2 nodes with possible constraints. I am looking for a similar method in the LOD NetworkAnalyst class and am not finding it. Is there something similar?
Or, here is what I want to do, and maybe there is a better way to do it. I am using NDM to data-mine our roadway inventory. Its a big network, whole state of Ohio, all roads--both local and state. One of the things I am trying to identify are what we call co-located routes. These are routes that have multiple names, for example, the ohio turnpike is both Interstate 80 and 90 on the same bed of road. In our line work, where these routes are co-located, we would only have a record for 80. The portion of 90 that we would have would be only in the case where it is NOT co-located with 80; in other words, 90 has a gap where it is co-located with 80. This is true for all our roads. In this case, we call 80 the primary, and 90 the secondary. We can have infinite secondaries (our worst case scenario is 6 routes overlapping). My situation in many cases, is I know that a route becomes secondary, I know how long the secondary section is, but I don't know what the primary is, so I want to discover it.
Given these assumptions, I should be able to ask for all paths between 2 nodes that exactly match a cost (the overall length of the overlap). This should be simple with NDM. I provide a begin node, an end node, and a target cost, possible some traversal constraints, and it returns me the candidate paths. I thought that NetworkAnalyst.withinCost would do this, but as I discovered from the Stored Procedure docs, it returns the shortest path within the given less than or equal to the given cost--not necessarily the path I am looking for.
Any advice? FYI, I am using Oracle 11GR2.
    Thanks, Tom

So what I have come up with so far, is that the NetworkAnalyst trace methods provide this type of functionality. For example, with traceOut, I provide a start node, distance and some traversal constraints, and it returns me all paths less than or equal to the specified distance. What was throwing me a little with this method was the application of the LODGoalNode. I was thinking that the goal node would allow me to specify a particular node to be a requirement for the entire path such that a resulting path would have my start node, and end on a particular goal node with links in between. That IS NOT how it works. The LODGoalNode.isGoal is tested for EACH link that is part of a potential path, and only if this method returns true, is it added to the resulting path list.
In my case, if I specified a start node and implemented the LODGoalNode.isGoal method such that it tested the provided end node for equality to my target node, the result would be that only links containing that specific goal node in the link. Anyway, so in my implementation, I leave the goalNode of the traceOut method null.
So I have a new question. Is there a way to test when a path has been found, and then apply some constraints on it (PathConstraint)? This would be useful in cases where you get many paths returned to you, but in addition to a maximum distance constraint, you also want to apply for example a minimum distance on the resulting path, or that this is only a valid path if it ends on a particular node. Maybe there is a way to do this, and I haven't figured it out yet. The old AnalysisInfo class used to have a way to query the current path links and nodes, that would be useful in the LODAnalysisInfo class to help accomplish this perhaps? This feature isn't critical, because I can filter the list of paths returned from traceOut on my own after they are returned, but it would add some efficiency, especially when a large amount of paths are returned.
    Thanks, Tom

  • Huge performance differences between a map listener for a key and filter

    Hi all,
I wanted to test different kind of map listener available in Coherence 3.3.1 as I would like to use it as an event bus. The result was that I found huge performance differences between them. In my use case, I have data which are time stamped so the full key of the data is the key which identifies its type and the time stamp. Unfortunately, when I had my map listener to the cache, I only know the type id but not the time stamp, thus I cannot add a listener for a key but for a filter which will test the value of the type id. When I launch my test, I got terrible performance results then I tried a listener for a key which gave me much better results but in my case I cannot use it.
Here are my results with a Dual Core of 2.13 GHz
    1) Map Listener for a Filter
    a) No Index

    Cache.putAll
Test 2: Total 43860 millis, Avg 1096, Total Tries 40, Cache Size 80000
Update (data added then updated, the key is only composed by the type id)
    Cache.put
Test 3: Total 56390 millis, Avg 1409, Total Tries 40, Cache Size 2000
    Cache.putAll
Test 4: Total 51734 millis, Avg 1293, Total Tries 40, Cache Size 2000

    Hi Robert,
    Indeed, only the Filter.evaluate(Object obj)
method is invoked, but the object passed to it is a
MapEvent.<< In fact, I do not need to implement EntryFilter to
get a MapEvent, I could get the same result (in my
    last message) by writting
    cache.addMapListener(listener, filter,
    true)instead of
    cache.addMapListener(listener, new
    MapEventFilter(filter) filter, true)
I believe, when the MapEventFilter delegates to your filter it always passes a value object to your filter (old or new), meaning a value will be deserialized.
If you instead used your own filter, you could avoid deserializing the value which usually is much larger, and go to only the key object. This would of course only be noticeable if you indeed used a much heavier cached value class.
The hashCode() and equals() does not matter on
the filter class<< I'm not so sure since I noticed that these methods
were implemented in the EqualsFilter class, that they
are called at runtime and that the performance
results are better when you add them
That interests me... In what circumstances did you see them invoked? On the storage node before sending an event, or upon registering a filtered listener?
If the second, then I guess the listeners are stored in a hash-based map of collections keyed by a filter, and indeed that might be relevant as in that case it will cause less passes on the filter for multiple listeners with an equalling filter.
    DataOutput.writeInt(int) writes 4 bytes.
    ExternalizableHelper.writeInt(DataOutput, int) writes
1-5 bytes (or 1-6?), with numbers with small absolute
values consuming less bytes.Similar differences exist
for the long type as well, but your stamp attribute
probably will be a large number...<< I tried it but in my use case, I got the same
results. I guess that it must be interesting, if I
    serialiaze/deserialiaze many more objects.
    Also, if Coherence serializes an
ExternalizableLite object, it writes out its
class-name (except if it is a Coherence XmlBean). If
you define your key as an XmlBean, and add your class
into the classname cache configuration in
    ExternalizableHelper.xml, then instead of the
classname, only an int will be written. This way you
can spare a large percentage of bandwidth consumed by
transferring your key instance as it has only a small
number of attributes. For the value object, it might
or might not be so relevant, considering that it will
probably contain many more attributes. However, in
case of a lite event, the value is not transferred at
all.<< I tried it too and in my use case, I noticed that
we get objects nearly twice lighter than an
ExternalizableLite object but it's slower to get
them. But it is very intersting to keep in mind, if
we would like to reduce the network traffic.
Yes, these are minor differences at the moment.
As for the performance of XMLBean, it is a hack, but you might try overriding the readExternal/writeExternal method with your own usual ExternalizableLite implementation stuff. That way you get the advantages of the xmlbean classname cache, and avoid its reflection-based operation, at the cost of having to extend XMLBean.
Also, sooner or later the TCMP protocol and the distributed cache storages will also support using PortableObject as a transmission format, which enables using your own classname resolution and allow you to omit the classname from your objects. Unfortunately, I don't know when it will be implemented.
    >
But finally, I guess that I found the best solution
for my specific use case which is to use a map
listener for a key which has no time stamp, but since
the time stamp is never null, I had just to check
properly the time stamp in the equals method.
I would still recommend to use a separate key class, use a custom filter which accesses only the key and not the value, and if possible register a lite listener instead of a heavy one. Try it with a much heavier cached value class where the differences are more pronounced.

  • Differences between Oracle 8i for a UNIX Platform and Oracle 8i for a Linux Platform

    Hello,
J would like to know if there are some differences between Oracle 8i for a UNIX Platform and Oracle 8i for a Linux Platform.
I know that there are some differences on Oracle 8i Parallel Server and i know that some products are not include like precompiler (Mod*Ada, Pro*FORTRAN) on a Linux Platform.
    Thank you.

We have installed Oracle 8i on Solaris 8 and it had a great performance, of course that the hardware and licence invested here was costed my the office where i work. Personaly i'd installed linux reh hat 8 and oracle 8i, imagine that, it could be implemented by any individual that has the time to do so.
By buyinng from a company that has a good background you could be sure that you will have support.
Bottom line, if you have the $ to buy great hardware go for a unix platform. But if you don't a Red Hat Linux Server Licence with a 1 year sopport and Oracle data base is about 3500Dls.

  • Managed bean/Data exchange between two ADF Rich Faces based applications

    Hi,
I have been trying to research what seems to be a small issue. My requirements are as follows.
    1. I need to be able to pass managed bean information from one ADF Rich Faces based application to another (in two separate ears) at runtime (e.g. from Ear1: SenderApp/Sender.jspx -> Ear2: ReceiverApp/Receiver.jspx).
    2. I do not want to use the database as my applications need to be performant.
    3. Serialization/de-serialization would fall pretty much under the database category. In other words, I like to avoid Serialization/de-serialization of the managed bean.
    4. I cannot use query string due to security issues.
    My question is as follows:
    1. Is there any standard/architecture/best practices for data exchange of backing beans or other forms between two ADF Rich Faces based apps (in two separate ears)?
    2. Has someone found anything similar to an applicationScope that works across applications?
    I would appreciate any ideas.
    Thanks very much,

    Hi,
its not an ADF Faces problem, but not possible in Java EE. You can however fallback to vendor specific implementations like in WLS. From the WebLogic documentation : http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs103/webapp/sessions.html
Enabling Web applications to share the same session*
By default, Web applications do not share the same session. If you would like Web applications to share the same session, you can configure the session descriptor at the application level in the weblogic-application.xml deployment descriptor. To enable Web applications to share the same session, set the sharing-enabled attribute in the session descriptor to true in the weblogic-application.xml deployment descriptor. See “sharing-enabled” in session-descriptor.
The session descriptor configuration that you specify at the application level overrides any session descriptor configuration that you specify at the Web application level for all of the Web applications in the application. If you set the sharing-enabled attribute to true at the Web application level, it will be ignored.
All Web applications in an application are automatically started using the same session instance if you specify the session descriptor in the weblogic-application.xml deployment descriptor and set the sharing-enabled attribute to true as in the following example:
    +<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>+
    +<weblogic-application xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90";;>+
    +...+
    <session-descriptor>
    +<persistent-store-type>memory</persistent-store-type>+
    +<sharing-enabled>true</sharing-enabled>+
    +...+
    +</session-descriptor>+
    +...+
    +</weblogic-application>+

  • Differences between AIX and Windows for SAP

    Dear All,
I have a problem regarding SAP Software. We want to change our company software .First we order SAP On Windows with Oracle10g But Now We want SAP on AIX with Oracle10g.
SAP delivered us software on Windows platform.
Please Suggest me for this as what are the differences between the above two platforms and what are the differences between the above 2 platforms.
    Regards,
    Pankaj Kalsayan

    hi Pankaj,
well, this is a very general question. perhaps you could specify a little more.
in general i would see no difference regarding the end user sitting in front of his pc using sapgui.
as far as i know all server side sap software is available for aix and windows (and many more).
for administration on the other hand there is of course lots of difference. AIX is a UNIX operating system running on special hardware with power processors. it offers quit extensive virtualisation abilities using so called LPARs and supports real big number of CPUs and large RAM. Windows is a completly differnet operating system running mostly on x86/amd64 hardware.
therefore you should also consider what know-how is available in your system administration.
not shure if that is partly answering your question ...
btw. if you are going forward with AIX you should perhaps consider switching oracle with db2. so you have a consistent IBM based landscape. also to me, sap and db2 seem to "like" each other more than sap and oracle
