During the 1.0 release I posted a survey for the top 3 usability issues facing Creator. Many of the requests have been resolved in the 2.0 release.

There was quite a good response for the first survey, so I'd like to continue this for Creator 2.0 as the Creator team works on update releases.
I'd like to know what top 3 usabilities improvements
should be made to Creator to improve the user experience
in future releases.

Hello, I have done a lot of development in PowerBuilder, Delphi, C++, but only spent a year or 2 (off & on) in Java. I downloaded Creator about 2 weeks ago and was impressed with its capabilities. That said, here are my main issues:
1) Ide Sluggish (always) and unstable (after extended use). I Sometimes have to stop & restart the server and even sometimes have to reboot to get it to deploy simple projects. Of course I am deploying often to see & test my changes. While you have the 30 min compile time of a large C++ project beat, it is far more difficult to do rapid prototyping in Creator than in PowerBuilder or Delphi. Even for small projects Creator is comparatively slow to the outdated C++ compiler which compiles the same header 5 times just for fun (actually its because I have not optimized the pre-compiled headers, but who has time for that in a small project anayway). I only type about 30 words/min and any IDE on a pentium based pc should be able to keep up. I have to wait so long for popup help, I could almost look it up in my browser faster. Also, my cpu is rarely above 20% when I have an hour glass in Creator and my entire PC is sluggish. I have 512Mb of memory on Windows XP and a 2.0Ghz CPU. Why should I have to wait 3-5 seconds changing pages in creator with only about 5 pages loaded?
2) Fragments, What a great Idea, most web pages have common headers and footers. Dream weaver & Front Page all have similar concepts. But then I spent a day trying to figure out how to show/hide buttons depending on what page I was on (what a pain!) I need a way to access any component on the header just like it was on the page so if button1 is on a fragment called myHeader I should be able to do MyHeader.button1.rendered = false; or whatever on Page1. Of course you could argue the object oriented approach is a "smart" header object, but how smart is it really with a big case statement for a brain.
Also try putting about 5 buttons on the header and including that header on 6 pages and then go to the navigation window and try to link it up and its a big mess. I always want the Home button to go to the home page so why should I have to do that 6 times. How about showing me the header fragment in the navigation pane and allowing me to make static links from there as well as from each page. Of course I still need to be able to retain other dynamic behavior such as make the logon button link to the Logon or the logout page depending if the user is logged in or out.
3) I need to be able to connect to ODBC data sources as there are no JDBC drivers for some databases like (DBISAM, NexusDB, Etc.) I know this is outside the IDE realm, but an updated ODBC-JDBC Bridge would be greatly appreciated. Of course I'm the guy with clients who always want to call some windows dll that they created from Java on a Unix box, but the ODBC support does not seem that unreasonable and I believe there are many others connecting to legacy systems that would benefit from this.

Mail usability issue -- message list positioning

I'm loving the iPad, but noticed a slight usability issue while reading my email today. Would be great if Apple would consider changing it in future updates.
Whenever I open the mail app, the right pane shows the most recent message I had open last time I was using it (that's good), but the left pane scrolls down and shows that message hilighted. I would prefer if the left pane stayed at the top of the list.
Consider the following scenario:
1) I go home from work at 5:00PM and sit down to play with my iPad.
2) I hear that familiar tone letting me know that I just got an email from my work account.
3) Open up the email, lament my co-worker's stupidity, go back to playing some video games.
4) The next day I get several hundred emails, answer them on my desktop email client.
5) Go home at 5:00 to play with my iPad.
6) New email
*7) have to scroll through all those emails I got during the day before I can select the new one.*
It's a minor annoyance, but still an annoyance.

Thanks for the tip. I never saw Rebuild before in the menu.
So I selected the mailbox and hit Rebuild. It "blinked" and refreshed, took about 5 seconds--I thought it would take longer.
At any rate, no change. It's still happening.
Any other ideas?

Top 15 Issues/Fixes Needed in the next Premiere Pro release/update (CS6.5 or CS7)

I’m excited for what’s coming next in Premiere Pro CS6.5 or CS7 (whichever update is next). As a former FCP7 user myself, Premiere CS6 was a quick and necessary switch (especially after changing the main keyboard shortcuts back to what I was used to). I’ve since gone back to FCP7 on occasion for certain things and I can tell you that I’m so glad I’ve switched. For all the headaches and serious errors that I still get daily/weekly with Premiere Pro CS6, it’s still definitely a big step up. I'm encouraged by staff members like Mitch W. that have expressed confidence that many of these issues will be resolved in the next release. Here is my personal list of “Top 15 issues/fixes” needed in the current Premiere Pro CS6…
(Adobe STAFF...feel free to print this out and hand it to the engineers responsible for making changes )
1) The infamous multicam FLAW. Needing no introduction…when you are editing your video in the multicam window and you hit pause or stop Premiere has decided that’s a great time to make a cut on your timeline and also switch angles back to the original angle whether you like it or not. You cannot stop ever while editing multicam without Premiere making these unwanted cuts and angle changes. Awful. Multicam in PPro is otherwise pretty nice, but this issue is terribly counter-productive especially when you are editing longer complex multicam sequences. Imagine if every time you hit pause or stop in the regular timeline it made a cut there and switched clips. Ugh. You get my point.
2) The audio meters/levels do not work while in the multicam window. A staff member in the forums (I think it was you) said this was a bug. Hope it will get fixed. The audio levels work in every other window and its essential to be able to keep an eye on the levels while editing multicam.
3) Ticktime.cpp-207 error. Ugh. What a nightmare. I have confidence that it will be fixed soon. Mitch W. from the forums is my new hero for taking on this error. How to replicate it?…simply have 6 (or 7) or more clips with the warp stabilizer effect added on the same timeline as a nested multicam clip and you get this error upon reopening your project. The more warp stabilizers you use, the more times you’ll have to hit “continue” to get through the error before you can open your project or export it to AME. I deal with this every single day because all my projects use these two elements. Most of my projects I have to hit “continue” on the error message upwards of 350-450 times to open my projects. Gets old fast.
4) Icon View order control. When you display all your clips in icon view instead of a list view (In the project window), there is no metadata to allow you to put the clips in order somehow (or at least maintain the order that you have in the list). There are roundabout workarounds, but c’mon.
5) Warp Stabilizer fixes…it is an AMAZING tool (far, far, far better than smoothcam in FCP7) BUT…it has it’s issues. Since I use hundreds of times/week (no exaggeration) I know it’s functions/flaws really well. The issues with Warp Stabilizer:
a) #3 above
b) Toggle OFF the effect after it’s applied and then hit Analyze again and PPro crashes. (easy to avoid but annoying bug)
c) If a clip is in the middle of stabilizing (not just analyzing…but the final step labeled “analyzing”) when Auto-save comes up…most of the time PPro freezes and crashes.
d) The DEFAULT “method” (in the settings for Warp Stabilizer) should NOT be “Subspace Warp”…it should be “Position, Scale, Rotation”. Why? It’s FAAAAARRRR better and more efficient. 95 out of 100 times it causes MUCH less “wobble” in the final stabilized clips AND most importantly 95 out of 100 times it scales the video less. Way better method.
6) The ability to open multiple projects simultaneously. As simple as FCP7 had it…or even better…as cool and efficient as FCPX does it would be nice.
7) The ability to mark a clip and not just a point on a timeline (because if you move the clip, the marker doesn’t go with it). I know you can use “Clip Marker” but it's very limiting, can't be moved, can't add notes, can't advance to the next marker (as far as I know). Also a marker list like FCPX has would be nice so you can see your markers all in a list at a glance and adjust them as needed.
8) Ability to select a clip in the Project window and find out where it’s used in the timeline. I LOVE how you can do the reverse and take a clip in the timeline and “Reveal in Project Window” but it would really help to go the other way around. Dealing with several hundred clips for every project I’ve missed this feature from time to time (FCPX handles this really well).
9) Add a through-edit indicator in timeline and “re-join clips” option. If you cut a clip but keep both clips together it’s just one continuous clip. But I really hope Premiere adds the not only an indicator of some sort (like FCP7′s way of having two small red triangles facing each other on that cut) so you know it’s one continuous clip BUT ALSO the ability to right-click and “re-join” the two clips into one.
10) When clip is double-clicked in timeline, CTI position in source viewer should match location in timeline. This one is pretty annoying and a fix would be incredibly helpful. The way it is now is very counter-productive. Definitely hope this gets fixed ASAP.
11) Better border controls for images/videos. Can’t do much with images right now in PPro. At least allow to customize the color and size/strength of it’s borders and shadows.
12) Better support for Mac/Apple's top end computers/GPU's. I'm still surprised that 2011 top of the line iMac cards (AMD 6970M) that have 2gb of ram are not supported. I’m sure/I hope 2012 iMac’s will be supported with their new Nvidia GPU’s…but I’ll hold out hope that the top iMac (up until 3 months ago) is supported at least at it’s full power. All around better Mac support would be great considering the wave of new users coming over from FCP.
13) Opacity/Transparency issues with EXPORTED videos with Cross Dissolves, etc. For some odd reason videos exported from Premiere CS6 have issues with cross dissolves or minor transparency. I’ll try to explain…in the program window of PPro CS6 cross dissolves look fine. Also, if you take a clip and stack it on top of another clip and put the top clip at say 99% opacity instead of 100 it looks like it should in PPro. But, if you export the clips you’ll quickly see that there are issues. It’s almost like the exported videos dissolve from 5 to 95. They skip the subtle beginning (0-5%) and subtle end (95-100%) of any fade. A clip in PPro as described above that is on top of another but set at 99% will look more like 90-95% in the exported file ESPECIALLY if the two clips are contrasting (eg. top layer dark, bottom layer with bright elements). It’s like the opposit of ease-in/ease-out. I have to ease-in/ease-out of every dissolve to avoid this issue…and even then, it’s not THAT much of an “ease” as one would hope. Another user in a forum once posted a video that shows how abruptly exported videos end their transparency changes…see: THIS SAMPLE VIDEO Perhaps this is a GPU/processing issue with AME vs. Premiere Pro but whatever it is, it should be fixed so videos you export look like the videos you edited!
14) Better control in Creative Cloud over which devices are “activated/deactivated” We have 3 computers and it would be nice if one could log in to their Creative Cloud account and see a list of which devices they have and just toggle on/off which one’s are activated/deactivated. This is especially helpful when you are mobile and forget to deactivate one of your two home/office devices so you’re stuck now until you get back to the home/office to deactivate it. This is not a Premiere thing, but just a general wish.
15) Ability to sync multicam clips automatically using the audio. Plural eyes apparently does this well. Would be nice to have it built into Premiere like FCPX does. Select all the shots you want to sync, One button click, wait a few seconds, done.
That’s my top 15. Everything else is awesome in my opinion for what I do 10 hours a day 6-7 days a week. I’ve included bug reports/feature requests for all of these at one point but if you are someone else reading this go to the following link and ask for these issues to be fixed: FEATURE REQUEST/BUG REPORT
I wish Adobe did smaller updates more often. Because even if they were smaller updates, we’d at least know you are working on fixing some of these issues that have plagued this NLE for years. Holding off fixes for one or two big “updates” every year is tough to deal with in a world of the ever updating apps we live and play with daily on our phones. I realize Premiere is a much larger scale and far more professional than a phone app, but hopefully you get my point. Here’s to hoping the next release (NAB 2013?) resolves all my top 15 issues. Here’s to hoping that these issues will be resolved sooner than later so I can stop raising hell in various forums. I’m honestly ready to start praising and defending Premiere Pro instead of griping about it’s bugs and flaws. It’s a fantastic program “on the way” to being the best. I hope.

Nice list, however it does seem a little bit like you may be hoping that Adobe provides the Final Cut 8 package that Apple never delivered on. Having edited primarily with P-Pro for the last decade, I hope Adobe focuses more on getting the next release to run as smooth as CS5x does, strangling and crucifying all the codec and playback bugs that arose in CS6. To me, it appeared that too many of the changes in CS6 were semantic or cosmetic, meant to give a FCP user more familiarity. Why change the name of an edit function from "overlay" to "overwrite" after 15 years? Because it enhances the product, or because that is what Apple called the function in FCP? If Adobe renames the Program Monitor to the "Canvas" with the next release, I think that I might be sick. There were nice additions to the Creative Suite as a whole, but I hope the next Premiere release reverses some missteps made in CS6, and focuses more on stability and enhanced functionality. I also really hope that they have an open ear towards criticism; Apple did not and their users ended up with FCP-X
It saddens me that the fixes I want most in a future release were purposeful changes between CS5x and CS6x.
1) Provide the options for transport controls in the source and program monitors. All of the users at my office hate that the jog and shuttle were removed in CS6. JKL was an option prior to CS6 and if we liked it we would have used it. I keep reading the justification that this change was meant to save space and streamline the UI. I can't express cordially how much this bothers me to look at the empty wasted space in my CS6 UI where the transport controls should be. The experiment has gone on long enough.
2) Restore the 3 Way Color Corrector to its previous functionality. The 3 way color corrector has been effectively neutered in CS6. Where in CS5x and earlier releases one could separately target the input/output levels of Highlights, Midtones, and Shadows, CS6 has only a master input/output level control. Why is less control better? Is it a 3-Way Color Corrector or a 1-Way Color Corrector?
3) Restore Clip and Timeline markers to their previous functionality. I don't even.... I can't. A user shouldn't have to do work arounds to create a modicum of functionality. This again was an attribute that wasn't broken in earlier releases.
4) Simplify the the task of pasting media into a targeted track. As it is now, pasted items will always go to the lowest activated track instead of the targeted track.
Lastly I would like the Adobe Premiere teams to consider what an amazing accomplishment Premiere CS5x was. Upon CS5's release, a good portion of competitor's workflows became obsolete. CS5.5 refined, stabilized, and expanded functionality.
CS6 changed the UI around, moving or deleting buttons, changed keyboard shortcuts, and renamed functions. Oh, and added hoverscrub, you know...like FCPX. In exchanged there was loss of functionality, stability issues and broken codecs.
I really hope the next release is more like CS5x and less like FCPX

We are trying to collect all the information we can to identify the top issues that customers are facing before, during or after E-Business Suite upgrades. We are really committed to address all possible issues and so we can prevent usual problems, showstoppers, inconveniences, lack of documentation and other technical difficulties.
What would you say are your top 10 issues that faced to upgrade to R12? Or what would you like Oracle to address in the near future to make your life easier?

Hi Max ! Hope you are well :-)
One thing that I assume most folks would find useful is a pre-upgrade script that can do some basic checks to identify any potential issues that need to be addressed before the upgrade starts.
A simple example is documented in MOS Doc 802515.1 (R12 Upgrade: Workers Fail In Apstca01.Sql) - the profile option in our system was set to NULL (the default) and the apstca01.sql failed in the middle of the first test upgrade - not a big issue, but would have been nice to have this corrected before the upgrade.
I am sure that are hundreds of such "gotchas" from all the various modules :-)
This script is almost analogous to the database pre-upgrade script/tool (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17222/upgrade.htm#UPGRD12395) that performs some checks and makes recommendations.

1. 프로시져 컴파일시 PLS-00201 과 "PL/SQL:Statement ignored" 에러의 발생하는
문제.
Stored procedure 컴파일시 다음과 같은 메시지가 나올 경우
PLS-00201 : identifiier 'CTXSYS.CTX_QUERY' must be declared
PL/SQL : Statement ignored
ctxsys 유저에서 해당 사용자에게 CTX_QUERY 에 대한 execute 권한을 준다.
-> grant execute on ctx_query to <user>;
2. UNIX에서 ps 명령으로 ctxsys 유저의 패스워드를 볼 수 있는 문제.
Unix에서 ps 명령으로 보면 다음과 같이 ctxsys 유저의 패스워드를
볼 수 있다.
/oracle/ora805/ctxsrv -user ctxsys/ctxsys -personality ...
이 경우 다음 password 파일을 사용하여 ctxsrv를 기동시키면 패스워드를
보이지 않게 할 수 있다.
passwordfile.txt 파일에 ctxsys/<ctxsys password> 형식으로 편집한 후
ctxsrv -personality QDM < passwordfile.txt &
3 Two Step Query 실행시 ORA-20000, DRG-10801, DRG10010 이 발생하는 문제.
     Two-Step ConText query를 실행하면 다음과 같이 error가 발생할 경우
     exec ctx_query.contains('PROJ_DESC_POLICY','customer','RESULT4');
     ERROR at line 1:
     ORA-20000: ConText error:

     -> 이 error는 result table에 textkey2 column이 없기 때문에 나는 error
이다.
     composite textkey에 적절한 textkeyN를 가진 result table을 생성한다.
     예) exec ctx_ddl.create_policy(policy_name=> 'Proj_desc_policy',
     colspec=>'tprojects.column',textkey=> 'proj,title');
     Composite index가 'proj' 와 'title'의 두 column을 참조한다.

4. 64k가 넘는 파일을 CTXLOAD로 올릴때 DRG-11514, DRG-11508, DRG-11505가
발생하는 문제.
64k가 넘는 파일을 ctxload로 올릴때 DRG-11514, DRG-11508, DRG-11505가
발생할 경우 ctxload command 에서 -longsize를 반드시 지정해 주어야 한다.
예) ctxload -user scott/tiger -table htmltable -load loadhtm2
-separate -longsize 100
5. Context Linguistics 서버 기동시 DRG-00100 및 "Server shutting down"
에러가 발생하는 문제.
설치할 때 context의 linguistic 설정이 완결되지 않아 발생한 문제로 다음
과같이 해결할 수 있다.
cd $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/admin
imp ctxsys/ctxsys file=ctxset.dmp full=y ignore=y
6. 다른 사용자가 생성한 테이블에 대해 select priviledge를 부여 받고도, 그
테이블에 대해 만든 policy로 structured query를 실행 할 경우 DRG-100[50801] 및
ORA-1031가 발생하는 문제.
select priviledge 이외에 grant option을 받아야 한다.
grant select on <tablename> to <사용자명> with grant option;
7. 다른 사용자가 생성한 테이블에 만든 policy로 질의 실행시 ORA-20000,
DRG-10801, DRG10502, ORA-06512 가 발생하는 문제.
ERROR at line 1:

DRG-10502: policy 'policy name' does not exist

이와 같은 에러 메시지가 뜰 경우 policy 및 index가 정상적으로 생성이
되었는지, 그리고 대상 table에 대한 select 권한을 부여 받았는지 확인해 본
다.
8. Policy 생성시 ORA-200000 과 DRG-10503 이 발생하는 문제.

이와 같은 에러가 발생할 경우 해당 테이블에 primary key를 지정해 주어야
한다.

9. Context 사용자를 cascade 옵션을 사용해서 drop 한 후 context server를
기동시킬 때 DRG-50301,ORA-20000, DRG-11000, ORA-02292 가 발생하면서 기동이 되지 않는 문제.
Context server 기동시 다음과 같은 에러메시지가 나오는 것은 사용자를
cascade option으로 drop 시켰기 때문이다.
DRG-50301 Server error reading request queue
ORA-20000 Context error
DRG-11000 failed to perform recovery for a server or client
ORA-02292 integrity constraint (%s.%s) violated -child record found
이것은 drop 된 context 사용자의 index, policy, preference가 계속 존재 하기 때문이다.
해결책은 drop된 사용자와 동일한 이름으로 user를 만들고, 기존에 부여된
role (ctxsys, ctxapp, ctxuser) 를 부여해 준 후, index, policy,
reference를 순서대로 삭제해 주면 된다.
10. Policy 생성시 DRG-10537, ORA-06512 발생하는 문제.
exec ctx_ddl.create_policy('POLICY_NAME', 'tablename.colname');
DRG-10537 textkey <col_name> length of 80 exceeds limit
ORA-6512 at ctxsys.drue, line 110

이 문제는 textkey가 시스템상에서 한계치인 64k를 넘어 설 경우 발생한다.
exec ctx_ddl.create_policy(policy_name => 'POLICYNAME',
colspec => 'tablename.colname', textkey => 'tablename.keycolname')
과 같이 명시적으로 primary key 컬럼을 지정해 주어 unique constraint를
가진 모든컬럼이 textkey에 포함되지 않도록 해 본다.

There is nothing like Top issues with it!!!!
If you need to use DBlinks then you ought to use it, thats simple.
The only thing is that you need to be aware of some facts:
1) You should get access to the remote database for creating the DB links. Sometimes remote databases are goverened by different SLAs and hence its diffucult to get access to userid/password.
2) Evaluate carefully before creating public database links, that might expose your remote database to all the local database accounts without your knowledge.
3) With DB links comes into picture districuted transactions and hence expect execution plans etc behaving different in comparison to sqls accessing the same DB.
4) Also be ready to view more DBA_2pc_pending and DBA_2pc_neighbors DD views, since due to any instablity in network between local and remote DB there might be in-doubt transactions.
5) when clonding the PROD DB to test database, make sure to wipe out the dblinks so that nothing from test points to prod environment.

Usability issues

Hi Guys,
For the past couple of weeks I am trying to give Aperture a chance to replace iPhoto... I have a quite large collection of pictures, and iPhoto is simply getting too slow to cope with it (yes, yes, i did library rebuild etc..).
I love editing features of Aperture 3, but have quite serious usability issues with it. First of all it really doesn't look or feel like Apple application. But anyway...
My biggest problem is with the way Aperture is organizing pictures. I mean - by default, newly imported pictures are going to the end of project list , there is no way of automatically sorting projects by date (well, i can in "Library", but not in the actual project list on the left). Also, as a result, my entire library is sorted alphabetically by the name of the event rather than by date. It looks like the app missing the most basic organization feature there is. Or am I missing something?

Yes. At the risk of a mildly "wise" answer, you need a quick hour with the manual (its online) or the Apple Aperture Tutorial.
Aperture can organize your images sixteen ways to Sunday, and will even let you arrange some one way and the rest another. And date order is always there as one of the factory smart albums.
Read the book and you will be very happy!
Or you can do what some of us dinosaurs do; begin the name of each Project with the date, as in "20100725 - Trip to Pub."

Unbelievable usability issues

hi all
The usability issues I am encountering are so basic that I do not want to create video with this sw. Having used Premiere pro in the past I know the typical quality of Adobe sw and I simply can't believe they connect their name with this product. Either that or it is something on my PC that I urgently need somebody to tell me about - before I forever close the books on this one.
A few things:
* When loading an avi clip into a new project, Drag the clip from some explorer window to the timeline and 1 out of 6 times, it does not appear on the timeline. It is not shown but it's there .... And f*cks up whatever else you drag to the time line next. You end up with split clips, dupicated clips, ...
* Having edited the timeline a bit, remove all the clips from it, then import a new short clip. You'd expect it to end up under the cursor but alas you often have to scroll to it: it often is way out of view w.r.t. the current horizontal timeposition or (see above) apparently gone.
* when you add or cut a piece from the start or end of any clip in your tmeline, the In and Out points ALT-[ and ALT-] on the timeline do not move accordingly - useless !
* When adding clips, removing clips, shorting etc the horizontal position craps up time and again - with nearly every significant edit you need to manually reposition - useless.
* This one is the worst: When dragging on the start or end of a clip in the timeline, it lets you drag, then pretends you never unclicked. the clip just apears to drag wherever you take the cursor - UNBELIEVABLE. You have to click elsewhere then select another clip in order to stop changing the size of the current clip and god knows what it's done to the clip I tried to edit when I succeed to stop dragging. With this bug you cannot call it a video editor !!!!

It is only this program that does this on my one year old IntelC7 PC. It shows the same bugs on my W8.1 laptop. All other stuff on my W8 PC has been running nicely including Photoshop elements BTW - which shows no usability or quality issues. Video imported is typically uncompressed DV-Avi or standard mpeg: I did perform 'Updates' and am running build 20120901, B261, 425551. I am sw development manager with 25+ years experience working on commercial products and have worked as video editor for 2 local TV stations as a hobby, so not quite a rookie. This product as is would not even be considered worthy of alpha-testing where I work.
and yet .... not a cry or complaint about this on internet anywhere ...Am I stupid or what ?

No doubt I have a learning curve but it should not include what are obvious bugs.
What really surprises me is that nobody seems to experience my issues, which to be frank
make this sw imho completely unworkable. Yet the type of usability problems do not suggest operatingsys or hw dependency: I consider them typical of junior programmer errors. BTW: I am also quite familiar with Pinnacle (9, 10 and 14) - they seem to have ironed out the bugs over the years but are nowhere near sophisticated enough when making even simple L -or J-cuts. let alone more complex edits.
I do want to use PE11 and don't mind learning curve (although it does not seem as hard as you seem to suggest). Any tips on PE11 are welcome. Any chance you suggesting specifics regarding ‘issues on my computer’? (I can't see them).

You definitely do have a learning curve. And there are likely some issues on your computer. But with this many issues, I'm not sure where to even begin.
It might be worth considering a different program that more closely fits your workflow. Have you considered or tried a program like Sony Movie Studio or Pinnacle Studio? Might be worth downloading a free trial of each and giving them a test drive.

DESK TOP AGENT ISSUE

Hi everyone
We have a company and one department is used for their contact center space
Problem they are facing is when an agent takes an external call and then transfers it to an internal user the call seems to stay in their que and stops them from taking calls....
I have also got them to uninstall desk top agent and install but this does not help, the downside of this is SODS law when we test it works but happen intermittently
Pleas any help would be great

I would open a TAC case for this, I'm guessing here that there might be some codec issue going on and the call hangs up or if you transfer the call to a Unity VM the call will hang. However, before opening a TAC I would spend some time figuring out a way to troubleshoot it.

Usability issues with a permanently hidden layer?

Hello,
In our application, we are required to create an object with unique properties...the object is basically an opaque grey rectangle. The properties are as follows:
only one of these objects is allowed per page
the object must be "In front" in terms of z-order
other objects cannot exist on the same layer
the object can be resized, but in a limited way (we will be working with the grab handles to help the user understand this)
We have considered a number of different ways of presenting this to the user...
OPTION 1
make the object a 'page attribute' that can be 'enabled' or 'disabled'
when the attribute is 'enabled', it can be edited/resized
by nature, the object must be on a layer, but we will not show it in the 'layers' dialog box, thus preventing users from incorrectly re-ordering the layer or drawing additional objects on the layer
OPTION 2
only allow this type of object to be drawn on a layer
only allow one per layer
present the layer in the layer dialog, but do not allow the layer to be re-ordered
do not allow other Indesign objects to be drawn on the layer
For Option 1, has anyone on this forum seen plugins or indesign objects that appear on a 'hidden' layer? Or is that a 'usability faux pas'?
For Option 2, is it reasonable to create some 'rules' around a layer, limiting its properties so it can provide a unique object?
Of the two, which seems most 'inline' with Indesign's philosophy?
Any help or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I just ran into this same problem. A rather annoying issue, since you can no longer tell when a movie will be available to rent. And a rather major programming gaff.

Two Fx 4 windows open at the same time causes usability issues

When I load two instances of Firefox, I get multiple issues with the second instance usability, display, and hot keys.
The issues are as follows:
# Menubar/Toolbar appear differently
# Back/Forward buttons do not work
# F-Keys no longer Function
# Favicons show old, cached icons
Please see screen grab of my two monitors with two instances of Fx 4 open, but the I played with my toolbar settings to get it to look somewhat ok.

This issue was not happening with Fx 3.x.x.
I am using a custom Persona, but I have changed the Persona a few times and I still get the same result.
I've removed all incompatible extensions and upgraded all the ones that needed upgrading.
Not sure what the issue is here, but would love to troubleshoot it down if possible. Please let me know if any other info is required!

Exact same issue here. Also, the add-on manger will not launch.
I thought it might be an add-on causing these issues, but only one out of my ten or so addons work in FF4, and I disabled it with no success.
This is a huge issue for me. I attempted to uninstall FF4 and go back to FF3 but I can't find an install file for FF3.

Survey portlet formating issues

We are trying to use the survey portlet, and have had some troubles...
When we create the survey and give it a name, there the Name is always showing up at the top of the portlet.
So we have a name of College_Survey(Because we can't use spaces), and we can't figure out a way to get the "College_Survey" text to not show up.
The second problem we are having is that we only have 1 question on the survey and we don't want the "1)" to show up because there aren't any other questions.
So if any one has any tips on how to fix these two problems for us please let me know.

When we use the survey portlet, we actually don't show the portlet title. Typically we add a text item above the portlet with the title of the survey in that.

Safari won't make Google my default search engine. + Top Sites issue.

I am running 10.9.5, latest iMac, latest Safari.
Here's my issue. Safari won't make Google my default search engine.
I switched it in preferences, and it says the default search engine is 'Google', as well as saying it even saying 'Google' in the Toolbar text field.
However the results always come back in Yahoo. I've tried resetting Safari, opening and closing the app but no luck.
Also I have it set to show 24 Top Sites, but it only displays 12 and it's been stuck on the same 12 sites for 2 days.
I'm assuming these two might be related as they are both preferences which stubbornly refuse to save as defaults.
Any one else having these issues? Anyone know how to fix?

Use free AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here.

   Install , open, and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
   Once done, quit AdwareMedic by clicking AdwareMedic in the menu bar and selecting
   “Quit AdwareMedic”.
Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari again.
Turn those on one by one and test.
               or
Remove the adware manually by following the “HowTo” from Apple.

Safari top sites issue

When I click on the top sites they won't open. They open if I click on those same sites' bookmarks or if I type them in, but there's no reaction when I click on them when their previews show when I open a new tab or window. Anyone else has the same issue? How did you fix it?

MIght be corrupted preferences ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Safari/TopSites.plist
Click Go then move the TopSites.plist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

ITunes Usability Issue

I've loved iTunes 7 since the day (Ok, the minute...) that it came out, but I have found an interesting little usability bug.
When clicking on controls in the iTunes interface, i.e. the play/pause button, the red close button, etc., the mouse click is registered right away. You can see the "mouse-down" effect of the button, but the actual event (playing/pausing the current track, or closing the iTunes window) does not trigger until I move the mouse pointer slightly. I typically only see this issue while useing my MacBook's trackpad with the tap-to-click functionality turned on. This makes it etirely possible to "click" a button without moving the pointer.
I was curious if anyone else has noticed this, and if I should bother submitting it to Apple..?

It doesn't happen to me, but I've seen others mention this. I'd submit it as a bug.
