Can't solve your immediate problem, but thought this might be of interest.
I created a tutorial on converting the Adobe Flex 3 example Dashboard application to Flex 4.
The tutorial is here:

There are links to the tutorial PDF, the converted applicaton, and the source code.
Hope this helps someone.

The 'lineBreak' style is now properly declared as non-inheriting.
For a long time we've intended for it to be non-inheriting... it lives in BasicNonInheritingStyles.as! And we want it to be non-inheriting, because in TLF this format does not inherit from parent FlowElement to child FlowElement, so in Flex is should not inherit from parent UIComponent to child UIComponent. But the metadata incorrectly said inherit="yes". It now correctly says inherit="no".

Gordon, it looks like its been a while since you made this post.  Not sure how valid it is now...   I am particularly interested in the LigatureLevel.NONE value.  It seems that it is no longer supported.
How do I turn of ligatures in the font rendering?
My flex project involves trying to match the font rendering of Apache's Batik rendering of SVG and ligatures have been turned off in that codebase.  Is there any way (even roundabout) to turn ligatures off in flash?
    Thanks,

        - Added code to break down straight edges whose dx or dy exceeds 65535 twips into smaller segments.
    - #2495874 (many objects are missing in Opacity.fxg renders via MXMLC static compiler)

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • [svn:fx-trunk] 5367: The changes here are mostly fixing some sizing issues.

    Log Message:
The changes here are mostly fixing some sizing issues.
For the FlashContainerPlaceholder, the first child is now MyFlexContentHolder, which extends mx.flash.FlexContentHolder but meets the invariant that it has 1 child and that child is FlexContentHolderThumbnail, which I?\226?\128?\153ve added as a swc to the project. I changed this by accident last time to refer to mx.flash.FlexContentHolder, when it should've referred to a concrete instance created by Flash from a swc. I also added a chrome of 151x151 to match the FlexContentHolderThumbnail since otherwise the container itself would have no chrome at all, and this let?\226?\128?\153s it size correctly.
Also, for sizing, in a container, rather than sizing to the size of the chrome, I now size to the size of the FlexContentHolder thumbnail that all FlexContentHolder?\226?\128?\153s have. This means in ContainerMovieClip, I don?\226?\128?\153t need to override bounds anymore.
    ContainerMovieClip now implements IVisualElementContainer.
Also, I fixed a resizing event bug in UIMovieClip where the resize event was getting dispatched more than once.

    Hi Chris,
thanks for your tip. I didn't get around to trying it, as I have just solved the problem:
Unless I misunderstand how things are supposed to work, I think I also might have found a bug (or at a minimum an usability issue):
When I talked about having relaxed all the local storage settings in my original post, I meant that in the System Preferences / Flash Player / Storage pane I had set "Allow sites to save information on this computer". I also had done some experimention around the "Ask me" and "Settings by Site" options - all without success. I had navigated to that pane by right-clicking on "Global Settings" from the non-working video players.
However, just now I discovered the following: When I navigate to http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.htm l (the embedded Global Storage Settings Panel) I found that in fact "Allow third-party Flash content to store date on your computer" was disabled all along!
So effectively, the System Preferences Pane and the Global Settings Manager were not in sync / had conflicting settings and it looks like the Global Settings Manager took precedence. When I enabled local storage in the Global settings manager, things started working immediately.
This is extremely easily reproducable by the way: Just change some settings in the Global Settings Manager and then right click "Global Settings" within it and the Preference Pane coming up will be in conflict with the settings manager.
(Even if this is somehow by design, its quite confusing)
Hope this helps future readers with the same issue. Also, this is an issue in 11.3 Beta 2, so maybe your teams can still fix this for 11.3
    Thanks,
    Jens

I finally found how to set a default skin to a custom component so that users of my component will not have to set again the skinClass value of my component.
You have to create a defaults.css file at the root of your library and tell the compiler to take it into account.
The remaining problem is about the compiler. There are some steps before success and they are a bit mysterious/unclear....
I found 2 or 3 blog articles explaining those steps but the compiler arguments to use are all differents in each article...
Here are the links I found:

Following the first article guidelines has been successful for me but I'm not marking this topic as Resolved because I'd like some answers about this whole thing...

    Log Message:
SkinnableTextBase.as - remove code to redispatch UPDATE_COMPLETE event from RET.  For each property setter, even though they are just proxies to RET, call invalidateProperties() to generate UPDATE_COMPLETE events and add handler for the TextOperationEvent.CHANGE and call invalidateDisplayList() to generate UPDATE_COMPLETE events for RET size and display list changes.  SDK-22705
TextArea.as - remove code to set scroller horizontalScrollPosition to off if "toFit".  Need to do it "virtually" rather than actually change the scroller property.  SDK-22680
    RichEditableText.as
Changes to rememasureText() and measure() since not all combinations of constrainted width/height worked correctly, particularly if auto sizing.  SDK-22727
Changes to textContainerManager_compositionCompleteHandler() to try to keep "contentWidth" seen by scroller constant if lineBreak="toFit" so the scroller doesn't think it needs to add a horizontal scroll bar.  If the text is "toFit" there should never be a hsb.  SDK-22680
Change to updateDisplayList() to scroll after updating the container if it was delayed when EditManager.updateAllContainers() last ran. SDK-22705
Removed default params from scrollToRange() since they don't make sense.  SDK-22696.
Some cleanup based on TLF cleanup.
RichEditableTextContainerManager.as - in drawBackgroundAndSetScrollRect(), if auto sizing, should use the display list width and height for the scroll rect and background for the text rather than the content width and height.   SDK-22727 and SDK-22678 ended up fixed too.
RichEditableTextEditManager.as - flag to know if scroll is needed after updating the container in updateDisplayList.  SDK-22696

it seems that this bug related to i915 chip ( or intel graphic card ) is fixed in kernel 3.18rc3 mainline ( we can find this kernel package in AUR )
there is also another and complete different bug when we use a kernel 3.17 and even 3.18 ( it's a random bug ) but with a similar effect : boot can hang ( the boot process suddenly stops ) :

downgrading to kernel 3.16.x is the workaround
I assume my computer is affected by one of these bugs. While I can get to the point where my window manager is loaded, everything almost immediately hangs (but doesn't freeze). Terminal windows become non-responsive and Chromium will refuse input. It's very weird. This happens with both of the 3.17 kernel updates but not in any of the 3.16 releases (including 3.16.7).
This is on an AMD system (cpu/gpu w/ open source driver). Overall 3.17 seems rather buggy.

I am not sure what's happening with IE9 (no live site) but I had real problems viewing your code in Live View - until I removed the HTML comment marked below. Basically your site was viewable in Design View but as soon a I hit Live view, it disappeared - much like IE9. See if removing the comment solves your issue.
