Swf and external assets: I am lost

Hello all,
I am a total newbie and I do not use Flash on any regular
basis. However, I do have a specific query. I have a number of SWFs
that were produced, somehow, with all assets held externally in a
folder (pictures, sound). I want to include some of those files
into powerpoint and adobe acrobat but the problem is of course the
fact that resources are held externally. I want to have those
assets embedded into the ppt or pdf so that the whole swf can be
played, standalone, within the document (for distribution). I don;t
think I can do this is Acrobat directly. So my question really is:
when an swf is produced with external assets, what is the
quickest/easiest/surest way of embedding those assets back into the
swf.
I hope this question is not entirely naive. I am used to swf
playing standalone so the above must be possible. I have no idea
how though and would really appreciate your guidance.
Thanks a lot.
Chris

Chris,

Okay.

I haven't yet tried embedding a SWF into an Acrobat file,
but I have
embedded SWFs in PowerPoint. In theory, those external assets
should still
load just fine, as long as the paths to those assets are the
same, relative
to the PPT, as they are relative to the SWF. This means you'd
have to
distribute all the external files along with the PPT file,
and I realize
that may or may not be feasible.
> I want to have those assets embedded into the ppt or pdf

The issue that that sort of scenario (I've done this with
enhanced Flash
Projectors) is that the paths to the external files have to
be handled as a
special case: they're no longer in folders, so the host file
(here, a PPT
or PDF) has to provide a way to present the incorporated
"external files"
*as if* they existed in folders. I don't know if that's
possible with
PowerPoint or Acrobat. I don't *think* so, but it might be.
Even if it is,
though, you might find that the SWF itself would have to be
reprogrammed a
bit to "understand" how to access the virtual paths to these
files.

There really isn't a quick/easy way. You'd have to get ahold
of the
original FLA source file(s), import the assets, then locate
all the
ActionScript that does the loading. You'd have to change that
ActionScript
to attach the assets from the Library instead of loading
them. This
mechanism is syntactically different from the various
approaches used for
loading. In other words, it would take reprogramming the FLA.

I agree, it's relatively easy to get a stand-alond SWF to
load external
files, but just because that's possible doesn't mean it
should work when the
SWF is embedded in non-traditional host containers. ;)

I've copied my itunes library onto an external hard drive. Is there any way I can do this and delete songs from my PC without also deleting from the external drive? Already lost two songs!!! I just want a back up - using a work PC and don't want others accessing my songs. Hope someone can help. Thanks!

I see. To get a better idea of what is being stored where please download and run the script iTunesInfo which should output something like this:
I'm interested in the block of 4 results starting ITL location. If your profile name shows up somewhere replace it with
. It is also worth checking under Edit > Preferences > Advanced to see where iTunes thinks your media is supposed to go. My script estimates the setting based on the location of the first media file it can actually find.

• Loading an external clip(swf) and removing existing one

Hi All,
I am tearing my hair out; I simply want a button when
clicked, to load an external swf. But I just can't seem to get my
head around it. Here is my code:
butt1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, swf1);
function swf1(evt:MouseEvent):void
loadSwf1.load(new URLRequest("swf1.swf") );
butt1_btn.buttonMode = true;
Any help with this would be much appreciated!
Kind Regards,
Boxing Boom

Hi,
Sorry for late response. I used the following code, which
loads another swf and replaces the original swf;
computerProtection_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,
removeMain, false, 0, true);
var ld:Loader = new Loader();
ld.load(new URLRequest("computerProtection.swf"))
function removeMain(evt:MouseEvent):void {
this.parent.addChild(ld);
this.parent.removeChild(this);
Now, the problem is that when I use the same code to get back
to the original, it doesn't work. Obviously, I have changes the
button name and the requested swf.
I get an error stating something about the main timeline.
Funny, how it works only once, loads a swf but won't load another
swf file.
I appreciate the time this issue has taken. But an answer
would be nice!
Kind Regards,

• I have lost all audio on both my internal and external speakers.

I have lost audio on both my internal and external speakers. I have checked the System Preferences when my external speakers are plugged in it is acknowledged. When using internal speakers they are also acknowledged. Sound volume on Preferences is on and fully high. The sound buttons on the keyboard do not work and the sound level is now locked in at full sound and cannot be adjusted using the keys. The System Preferences shows that Mute is now checked and I cannot uncheck it. What should I do to get my sound back both internally and externally?

Repair permissions & restart.
Check your settings in the Audio Midi app which is located in the Utilities folder.

Trick/Tip: Open up GarageBand if installed then, open a program (optional).
Quit out of the GarageBand app.
=====================
Repairing the mysteriously muted Mac
The background on the issue is that there’s a small sensor switch inside the headphone port. When you insert a headphone jack, the sensor understands what's what and changes the sound output setting to Headphones. If you insert a jack for digital audio output, the device changes to Digital Out. When you remove the jack completely, it should read Internal Speakers.
The spirits tell me that there’s a very good chance that you recently had something jacked into this port—a set of headphones or a cable leading to powered speakers, for example. When you removed the jack, something in the port prevented the sensor from tripping correctly. That’s why you see Digital Out instead of internal Speakers.
The solution is to force the sensor to do its job. The safest way to do that is to simply run a jack in and out of the port a few times. Much of the time, this takes care of the problem by correctly tripping the sensor. If that doesn’t work, there may be gunk in the port. Before turning to more invasive techniques, get a can of compressed air, attach the small tube that fits the nozzle, and blast a few shots of air into the port. With any luck, that should dislodge the gunk and the port will operate as it should.
If that doesn’t work, find a foam-tipped swab that fits (electronics shops generally carry them), dip it in rubbing alcohol, and gently insert it into the headphone port in an attempt to wipe away any stubborn gunk. I recommend foam rather than cotton swabs because the cotton variety might leave threads behind. (This same technique works well with misbehaving headphone ports on devices such as iOS devices.)
It's possible that gunk has nothing to do with it. Rather, it may be that the switch just needs a subtle nudge. If a jack or swab doesn't work, I've heard of people successfully resetting it with a deft poke of a toothpick.

• Cross using of MovieClips and externally constructed MovieClips in 2 SWF-Files

Hello, I have two SWF-Movies. One is exported into eht other as Child.
Can I instance the Objects of the two libraries in all places, where ActionScript is possible? (In Keyframes of the MovieClips and in external class definitions.)

the applicationdomain holds the classes from loaded swfs. you should read the flash help files.
but, if you wanted to create an instance of the class C1 that's defined in swf2.swf and, you're loading swf2.swf, you could use:
var ldr:Loader = new Loader();
var urlR:URLRequest = new URLRequest("swf2.swf");
ldr.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,f);
var loaderContext:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext(false, ApplicationDomain.currentDomain);
ldr.load(urlR,loaderContext);
function f(e:Event){
var C:Class = Class(ApplicationDomain.currentDomain.getDefinition("C1"));
var c1:* = new C();

• Loading External SWF and setting variables

Hello Everyone.
I'm sure you are all a where of the FlashVars attribute for
Flash embeds which holds variables for SWF's when they are
rendered. I'm attempting to load an External SWF dynamically
from within my own SWF and need to provide it with the values
normally stored in the FlashVars. For the example below I
wait until the External SWF is completely loaded using the
onLoadInit event from moviecliploader and then i attempt to
set the required variables that the loaded SWF needs. This works
great in test and debug mode (ie. Test Movie and Debug Movie
from the Control menu), but when i publish my FLA to SWF and run
the SWF the variables will NOT get set in the loaded External SWF.
From my readings ive people have mentioned that the player is only
able to access Methods of an External SWF. If this is the case then
how do they expect people to set the FlashVars of dynamically
loaded SWFs? I investigated the loadVariables procedure as well and
had the same results in test mode and was wasn't reliable because
of timing issues.
The sample source is below... if anyone has any ideas or has
come across this issue before, I would really appreciate some
insight.
Thank you in advance for your time.
var loader_mc:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
var mclListener:Object = new Object();
loader_mc.addListener(mclListener);
mclListener.onLoadProgress = function(target_mc:MovieClip,
numBytesLoaded:Number, numBytesTotal:Number) {
// DO NOTHING
mclListener.onLoadComplete = function(target_mc:MovieClip) {
// DO NOTHING
mclListener.onLoadInit = function(target_mc:MovieClip) {
// WORKS IN TEST MODE NOT IN PUBLISH/SWF MODE
target_mc._root.param1 = "value1";
// WORKS IN TEST MODE NOT IN PUBLISH/SWF MODE
_level0.container_mc.param1 = "value1";
this.createEmptyMovieClip("container_mc",
this.getNextHighestDepth());
container_mc._lockroot = true;
loader_mc.loadClip("somecoolflash.swf", container_mc);

I've tried that as well and it behaves the same as onLoadInit
... Works when i test but doesnt when i publish to a swf. I think
this is security related and the flash player just cant write to a
loaded swf and set variables.

• Load external swf and consume your lybrary

dear friends flashers,
I need to load a swf into another swf and access objects that are in the library.
load a swf into another is not my problem the problem is to create an instance of an audio exported to action script contained in the child swf.
Has anyone had this problem? help me?
Thanks.
Marcio.

I founded by myself, I just created a movie clip of this button and here is my code in case someone has the same problem...
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.net.URLRequest;
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
loader.load(new URLRequest("MyInDesignSwf.swf"));
addChild(loader);
addChild(home_front);
home_front.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,playClickedExit)
stop();
function playClickedExit(event:MouseEvent):void
removeChild(loader);
gotoAndPlay(90);

• Narrowed down the swf asset issue, can anyone advise on where expressInstall.swf and such should be?

Here is my file structure, pretty simple, but am told that I need to upload expressinstall.swf and (I believe) swfobjectmodified,
"to the server" for the swf object to work correctly. The domain as it is, is www.desertpalmyoga.com
So frustrating as it works properly but I don't know how/why at cachetrade.com

not sure how I fixed it, but now it works.
I think one thing is to not just use dreamweaver to ftp the main + supporting files (expressinstall, for example, was uploaded by DW but not accessed by the file) - my trick was to ftp the entire 'deploy to web' folder and then additionally make a copy of all those files raw (not in a folder) to the root.
I really have no idea why but it works now, I guess I did a few things not sure what helped...
See the swf in question when you roll over the yogi on the LEFT:
www.desertpalmyoga.com
I just hand't understood, either, that you needed to put the whole deploy to web folder too...
and still kinda confused but still better

• I've imported an external video and if I move the swf and video to a pendrive I can't see the video. What I can do?

• Delivery report shows status of Pending for external address. Email sent to both internal and external addresses.

We have an Exchange 2013 on-premise server and seem to have an issue with emails sent to internal and external users at the same time.
The issue came to light because someone sent an email to 44 recipients, of which one was internal. None of the external recipients received the email. I checked the delivery report in the EAC and found the internal email marked as 'Delivered' and all of
the external ones marked as 'Pending'. I checked the queues and there were none. I did some testing and sent an email to just one of the external addresses on the list, it arrived. I tried sending the email again to all of the recipients, the external ones
all showed 'Pending'. I tried it again, but this time excluded the internal email address and all of the 43 external emails were immediately delivered.
So it seems that the issue only arises when we are sending to both internal and external addresses.
I then tried a test email to one internal address and one external address. The Delivery report says that the internal address was delivered immediately, while the external address is 'Pending' and gives more information saying: 'Message delivery is taking
longer than expected. There may be system delays. For more information, contact your helpdesk.'. To add further mystery to this, the email was actually delivered.
So, I have two concerns:
First is seems that some emails sent both internally and externally are only arriving internally. This is a huge problem because I don't know how many have been affected. There may be many lost emails we don't know about.
Second, it looks like I can't trust the delivery report. It says pending for some emails which didn't arrive, but it also says pending for some which did arrive. That is no good at all.
For info the server is running Windows Server 2012. I have run a Microsoft Update to check if there are any to apply and the only Exchange one is a spam filter update, which I doubt has any bearing but I will apply when I get chance.

Hi Neil,
According to the description, I find a related KB on Exchange 2010:
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2694474?wa=wsignin1.0
It has the similar situation as yours.
This issue occurs because a function in a message tracking component tries to obtain the information for the recipient instead of the external recipient.
Please try to upgrade to the latest Exchange update to check whether this issue can be solved.
Also please check whether Throttling has been set.
Please run "Get-TransportService | fl" to check the MaxOutboundConnections parameter value.

• Can I split my itunes music library between and internal and external hard drive?

Is it possible to have music on the two different drives and still be able to make playlists from both drives to put on my ipod? Here's my situation: I'm using a Dell 32 bit computer running Vista Home Premium SP2 which I share with other users. I have a large itunes library (40g+ of music only) that's starting to hog the hard disk space from other users. If possible, I would like to split off part of my itunes library to an external hard drive while still having access to the entire library for my ipod. Ideally I would like to have all my downloaded songs on both the internal and external drives so I'll have backups in case a drive fails, while putting all the music I have hard copies of solely on the external drive. Any help on how this can be done would be appreciated.

If you manually manage your itues library, you can store parts of it on an external drive, or on an internal drive. Just keep in mind that in iTunes that you must set a default location for iTunes to manage it's files, and that will be the default location for iTunes to store anything it downloads. You would need to manuay manage moving things from there if tht is not where you want them stored.
Perhaps a "better" solution would be for you to invest a little mone into 2 external drives. One to hold your entire iTunes library, and the second to be your off-line backup of the first. This is the method I have gone with and I like how it works for me. My entire iTunes library is on an external (portable) 320GB drive. Then, when iTunes is not running, I will clone my external drive onto a second drive I happen to have, this way if I have any failure of my primary drive, I lose at most about a weeks worth of content. For me, I purchase little content during a week, but I do move a fairly large volume of podcasts. With the entire library being on the external drive, if I ever have to swap to using my backup drive iTunes wil just think that it hasn't run and downloaded anything for a week, and all the "lost" content will be re-downloaded automatically. This won't work for apps or purchased content, but for subscribed podcasts, it is great.

• Pausing swfs and audio in a browser when the tab is out of focus

I'm trying to code my flash file so that the html will pause all swfs AND audio when the tab is out of foucs. I found this code on http://frontenddeveloper.net/wiki/index.php?title=JavaScript_and_VBScript_Injection_in_Act ionScript_3 and it works,but not completely. It only pauses the movie clips that are in the Flash file and not any that are exteranlly loaded with audio included.
How can I adjust it to pause the externally loaded swfs that are loaded to a mc within my main movie clip and the audio OR what should I use in place of this code? Someone mentioned on a different post that I needed to use a window.onblur funcition, but they didn't give details.
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.utils.setTimeout;
// This is a more "safe than sorry" setting, since multiple domains

// it's thorough, generic, and simple. Iterate all movieclips within
// clip, shutting them down each in turn. A better, but much more tedious
// method would be to target specific clips using dotpath notation, telling
// each in turn to turn off or on depending on what we need.
// BUT this is just a demo, and what we're really interested in is the
// event-handling mechanism that actually calls this routine, and not the
// routine itself.
function toggleAllClips(doAnim, clip) {
if ( clip is MovieClip) {
if (doAnim) {

ExternalInterface.call(jsfix);
} catch (e) {
trace(e);
// Using timeouts ensures the movie is actually done loading before
// these fire, helping compatibility for a few browser versions.
setTimeout(injectPrep,0);
setTimeout(injectListeners,100);
JAVASCRIPTS
JavaScript needs to be wrapped in a tag, a cdata, and a closure
function in order to be wrapped up and sent to the browser.
Note that an ActionScript function will replace all instances
of "xxx" with the actual ID used for this SWF.
We're battling some major bugs and crossbrowser idiosyncrasies
here:
1) In Internet Explorer the 'onblur' event is implemented
incorrectly (as opposed to Firefox/Mozilla browsers). It is
wrongly fired when focus is switched between HTML elements
*inside* a window. As a result, we have to use onfocusout
instead of onblur, and keep track of which element is active.
If we focusout and the active element is not the previous
active element, then we haven't actually "blurred" and dont
want to trigger Flash.
2) Firefox has problems interpreting both getElementById and
document["swf"] when dealing with "twicebaked" object/embeds.
Adobe's method of finding the swf fails to address the fact
that document["swf"] sometimes returns an array in this
situation rather than an object ref, and getElementById
sometimes confuses name and id.
3) When a window is created in Firefox, it doesn't actually have
"focus" (event though it appears to) and therefore won't "blur"
unless you actually click in it first, i.e if you open up a
window, then immediately send it to the background, it never
gets the command to halt the flash. So we have to explicitly
focus the blasted thing to get it to work properly.
4) Because of irregularities caused by Ajax, the way browsers shut
down, and other factors, there's a good chance our swf won't
be there when a blur (or focusout) event occurs. Therefore we
need an explicit check within the event handler itself.
5) Finally, we want to wrap everything inside a wrapper-closure
function, to keep everything safe from being stepped on. Lucky
us, we have to do this anyways to get everything to fit inside
a single ExternalInterface.call event.
var js:XML = ;

I added this code and it removes the externally loaded swfs. I don't want that, I want them to pause and then resume when the tab is back in foucs. Also, the main code restarts the main movie clip upon refocusing too.
Added code:
function toggleAllLoaders(doAnim, loader) {
if ( loader is Loader) {
if (doAnim) {
loader.play();
} else {
loader.stop();
for (var i = 0; i<loader.numChildren; i++) {
toggleAllLoaders(doAnim, loader.getChildAt(i));
I added the new function to all of the places that had the "toggleAllClips" function.

thanks regards
raju

Hi NagaRaju,
An external asset acquisition is a business transaction resulting from the acquisition of an asset from a business partner (in contrast to an acquisition from in-house production). You can post the acquisition of a purchased asset in several different ways, using different components of the R/3 System:
In Asset Accounting (FI-AA) in integration with Accounts Payable (FI-AP), but without reference to a purchase order:
(ii)In Asset Accounting, without reference to a purchase order, without integration with Accounts Payable (posting to a clearing account - with or without clearing).
(iii) In Materials Management (MM) at goods receipt or invoice receipt (refer to Processing Asset Acquisitions in Purchasing (FI-AA/MM) and Goods Receipt and Invoice Receipt with Reference to Asset).
Process Flow:Integrated Asset Acquisition Posting
If you are also using SAP R/3 Accounts Payable (FI-AP), it is recommended that you take advantage of this integration and post the asset acquisition (without reference to a purchase order) With vendor. This means that you can post the asset acquisition and the corresponding vendor payable in one transaction. Using this transaction reduces the time and energy required for data entry and the possibility of discrepancies.
Non-Integrated Asset Acquisition Posting:You can post the acquisition of a purchased asset to a clearing account rather than using integrated posting to Accounts Payable. There are two scenarios:
The asset acquisition comes before the receipt of the invoice. The offsetting entry is posted automatically. As the acquisition amount, specify the actual net amount to be capitalized. Regardless of the document type (gross/net) which you use, the system does not deduct a discount here.
The asset acquisition is posted after the receipt of the invoice. You posted the invoice as an open item to a clearing account, and now you need to clear this entry. If the clearing account used is an open item account, when you post the acquisition, you can manually clear the posting to the clearing account (vendor invoice) at the same time (transfer with clearing). The corresponding transaction allows you to select all open items, per clearing account (account type S for General Ledger account) according to varying criteria.
Cash Discount:When posting an asset acquisition integrated with Accounts Payable, your choice of document type determines whether you post gross (without cash discount deducted) or net (with cash discount deducted).
When you use a document type for net posting, the system determines the cash discount deduction automatically by means of the specified terms of payment, and capitalizes the invoice amount on the fixed asset, minus sales tax and cash discount.
During the payment run, differences may arise between the amount paid and the capitalization amount, because too little or too much cash discount was deducted. In this case, make adjustments to the APC using collective processing in the General Ledger (General Ledger->Periodic processing->Closing->Regroup-> Prof.segment adjstmt).
When you post an asset acquisition without integration with Accounts Payable, you have to capitalize the actual APC amount (without cash discount being deducted) to the asset. In this case, the cash discount is treated only on the vendor side.
Acquisition with Value Adjustments:You can post gross acquisitions, if you want to post assets that not only have APC, but also have value adjustments already. In order to use this option, set the gross acquisition indicator in the transaction type you use. The system then permits you to enter APC and accompanying value adjustments when you post the acquisition using the transaction under Postings ->Miscellaneous.
Hope I had been able to help you. Pleaae assign points.

• How to create a button in a interactive document and use the button to launch and external "exe." file.

I created an interactive document and will export as a swf. I would like to create a button in the interactive document to launch and external "exe." file. Is this possible.

You will need to create custom web part editor. Look at the following example. It also have added button and its events. I am sure you can use this sample as base and code your logic.
