SWF dowload very slow relative to larger JPG
I have written a small Flex app - the swf is less than 1M bytes.
My server side is using Tomcat with BlazeDS.
It takes a LONG time (over 20s) for browsers to download it.
Just to compare, I put a 1.8M jpg on the same site and it downloads relatively quickly (~6s).
(I used FireBug on FireFox 3.6 to measure download times, but its as slow on Chrome and IE)
Any idea what can make getting the swf so slow ???
You can check the dowload of the app from http://galgefen.com/BlazeDS
and the image from http://galgefen.com/BlazeDS/spicer-orchard.JPG
Are you sure you are just measuring download and not initialization time?

Icloud synch very slow for a large pages document
I have just modified a 350 page pages document ( with many photos ) on my mac book pro, and logged into my imac 5 minutes later. 15 min later I still don't have the current version on my imac
WHY IS SYNCING DOCUMENTS SO SLOW ?
Seems that icloud is inothing.
thankxWelcome to the Apple Community.
That will be a result of a large document. You must remember upload speeds are usually only a fraction of download speeds, large documents may take a while depending on their size. -
Very Slow performance with large files
Using iTunes with my AppleTV I've been in the slow and painful process of digitizing my dvd library and when converting the LOTR (extended edition) trilogy I ran into a problem post-conversion. They play fine in Quicktime 7.3.1, I can add them to the iTunes library but when attempting to edit any information within iTunes and attempting to save iTunes freezes for several minutes before working or crashing (odds are around 50/50). If I just add the file to the library and try to play it the movie doesn't show up on the AppleTV either which is even stranger.
Output format of the movie: MP4/H.264, native 720x480 resolution, 23.97fps, 2Mbps video stream, 128k audio stream(limit of winavi).
Output Size: 4.4GB
Length: 4hours 24minutes
Software versions: iTunes 7.3.1, QuickTime 7.3.1
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2(current patch level as of 7/15).Is possible than iTunes have 4 Gb folder limits. I'm trying put a little of light over the problem because iTunes Help don't said.

Very slow in sending large file email
I am having problem sending email with attachements around 8MB size, the email could not be sent out. Any setting or solution that can help on this?
I have been experiencing similar problems with slow downloads from my WS2012 running Mercury Mail to our outlook 2010 clients.
I finally sussed this one out.
Even though there is much talk out there that Anti Viruses no longer scan emails because in the words of another post
There's no need to scan email, only attachments and that is done by all modern antimalware programs as the files are written to the PC file system.
All of the major AV vendors have been telling their customers for several years now that 'email scanning' is no longer necessary, it's a holdover from the early days of AV programs when Microsoft hadn't yet created the API (Application Programming Interface)
sets that allow the AV programs to scan a file before any user access (including email programs) is allowed.
That being said the AV I have installed on my WS2012 (SC2012EP) still looks at the app. So what I did what exclude the Mercury mail application in SC2012EP and tested it.
An 8.9MB email which took 4 minutes to download now only take 9 seconds.
Problems solved!!
J I hope it helps you -
EPMA very slow to import large dimension from interface tables
I am attempting to import a dimension into the master library from the EPMA interface tables. The dimension is roughly 255,000 members. The import from the interface tables into an empty dimension member is taking close to 3 hours. CPU utilization on the EPMA server is a steady 6% (epma_server.exe) for the entire time. We are on 11.1.2.1.001 of EPMA. The rest of the suite is at 11.1.2.1. The dimension generic type. I have had the same result when importing into a local dimension. The performance degrades after about 6000 members.
Your thoughts would be much appreciated.I have found my answer from EPMA guide:
In addition to the dimension interface tables created by the template script, you can add interface tables for additional dimensions. For example, the template script contains one set of tables for the Entity dimension. You can add more Entity dimensions as needed. For each dimension added to the interface tables, you must also include the dimension in the IM_Dimension system table so that the dimension is available during profile creation. -
Date insertion from large XML document (clob) into relation table very slow
Hi Everybody!
I'm working with Oracle 9.2.0.5 on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.
The server (a test server) is a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz, 1GB of RAM.
I use a procedure called PARITOP_TRAITERXMLRESULTMASSE to insert the data contained in the pXMLDOC clob parameter in the table pTABLENAME. (You can see the format of the XML document below). The first step on this procedure is to verify that the XML document is not empty. If not, the procedure needs to add a node in the document, in every <ROW> tag. This added node is named âRST_IDâ. Itâs the foreign key of each record. I can retrieve the value of each <RST_ID> node in an other table in which the data has been previously added (by the calling procedure). When each of the <ROW> elements has been treated, the PARITOP_INSERTXML procedure is called. This procedure uses DBMS_XMLSAVE.INSERTXML to insert the data contained in the XML document in the specified table.
(Below, you can see the code of my procedures.)
With this information, can you tell me why this treatment is very very very slow with a large XML document and how I can improve it?
Thank you for your help!

CS5 - publishing AS2.0 SWFs very slow
Having just recently started to work with CS5 I can't help noticing that publishing/exporting SWFs is very slow compared to CS3. A file that takes 3 seconds for CS3 to publish takes, on average, 12 seconds to publish in CS5... 4 times slower!
Anyone know of anything we can do to reduce the amount of time needed to publish? This is a pretty powerful kit - 2.67GHz quad-core CPU with 6GB of RAM so it shouldn't really be having any performance issues!
Or is this just a 'benefit' of 'upgrading' to CS5?!
Any suggestions (other than 'move to AS3.0', thanks!) gratefully received...!Magnus is correct - here's the relevant info lifted from the MXO release notes:
Adobe Media Encoder
¦ Note If you’re using Adobe Media Encoder with a Matrox MXO2 product that
has the Matrox MAX option, see also “Matrox MAX H.264 encoding (MAX
option)” on page 10.
• When you export a Matrox PAL sequence to MPEG2-2 DVD format using
Adobe Media Encoder, set the Field Order to Upper under Basic Video
Settings in the Export Settings dialog box. Otherwise, your export may
be blurry. (Ref# 51007)
• If you find that switching the export format in the Export Settings dialog
box sometimes takes a long time, such as when you switch from Microsoft

usually installed by Adobe Premiere Pro in the following folders:
$ \Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\MediaIO\codecs\
$ \Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CS5\MediaIO\codecs\
Be aware that after renaming the SurCodeWrapper.vca file, you won’t be able
to export audio to SwCode Dolby Digital, but you will still be able to export
audio to Dolby. (Ref# 55279 and Adobe Ref# 2603943 -
Experiencing very slow start up on iPad 2 since iOS6 upgrade
Hello, I wanted to see in the forum if others have experienced very slow (relative to prior state) boot times since upgrading their iPad 2 to iOS6. My iPad now boots in about the same amount of time as my five year old Toshiba Satellite A-300 laptop (approx. 11/2 to 2 minutes). What a shame too since the point (for me at least) in using a tablette is to have faster access to my computer/internet than using a PC. What's next? The battery will drain in four hours??? Forbid it ever happen! Please Apple, make the iOS6.0.1 lighter or at least start up faster. Also, Are iPad 3 users experiencing the same slow boot?
Thanks for any feedback!Yes, exactly the same problem... 1.5 min startup with a 32 gb iPad 2

Very Slow running dashboards/swf not loading
I have built a number of dashboards and sent them round to colleagues in my company (either embedded in powerpoint or as swf to open in IE). We have no probelms viewing these dashboards internally but when we send them out to clients they cannot view them.
It seems like the swf files are just not loading, or are incredibley slow (so slow that the client has given up on them) has anyone else encountered problems like this? Could there be some security issues; when the files pass onto another network the swf is halted?
Hope someone can help!There is known issue with xcelsius 2008 when exported to PPT..
Check this and do the work around mentioned.. it will work,but very slow.
I don't know its a problem with xcelsius or with my laptop?

Large SGA issue-- insert data is very slow--Who can help me?
I set the max_sga_size to 10G,and db_cache_size to 8G, but the value of db_cache_size is negative number in OEM, and also I found that the data inserting was very slow, I checked the OS, found no CPU consuming and no IO consuming.
The OS is HP-UX B11.23 ia64.
Oracle server 9.2.0.7
Physical memory : 64G
CPU: 8
(oracle server and os are all 64-bit).
If I decrease the SGA to 3G,and db_cache_size to 2G, and the same data inserting is very fast, everything is well.
so I guess if there are some os parameters needed to set for using LARGE memory.
Who know this issue or who has the experience of using large SGA in HP-UX ?

user548543Sounds like you might have a configuration issue on the o/s side.
Check that kernel parameters are set as recommended in the installation guide
The first thing that came to mind after reading the problem description was that you might have too low SHMMAX for that 10GB SGA, which would cause multiple shm segments to be created and thus explain the performance degration you're experiencing.
A quick way to check if that's the case would be doing "ipcs -m" to see if there are multiple shm segments when SGA is set to 10GB. -
MacBook Pro very slow to bring up homepage, programs won't open; likely related to failure to upgrade Java on Parallels, told that C disc low capacity, disc compression recommended was unsuccesful/failed. Rebooting, battery removal hasn't helped. Can't open Systems Preferences. Suggestions?
Linc, the resident dump guru, will probably be along in awhile and provide deeper insights, but here goes for now. I'm seeing an awful lot of warnings and messages from Chrome. Any chance you could lay off that browser for awhile and use Safari in the meanwhile? No red messages anywhere in the listing. Have you tried rebooting into Mountain Lion Recovery Mode to do a Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions? (Cause in spite of what your config tag says, the dump indicates you are running a ML kernel)

IPad gets very slow with large apps installed ?
Hi,
I have a 64GB iPad 3 and I noticed it gets very slow when I install large apps. Apps larger than 1 GB.
I have bought a number of excellent reference apps, but can not keep them on my iPad together.
I have to delete one before I can install the next or else my iPad runs into trouble.
I can have about 5 large apps installed and no more.
It takes forever to boot, restarts, has delays when typing and crashes all the time with my large apps installed.
Is this a limitation of iOS 6, or is it because I have dropped below 10 GB of my 64GB storage.
Does my iPad use the storage for memory?
I bought a 64GB so that I could use my large apps.
Sean10GB of free space should be adequate. Have you done a Reset?
How much space is your Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

iPad running slow? How to speed up a slow iPad
http://appletoolbox.com/2012/07/ipad-running-slow-how-to-speed-up-a-slow-ipad/
Cheers, Tom -
Adobe has upgraded itself( now red prompts ) and it operates very slow at best. it also locks up. Can I go back to old version or is there a fix?
Seem to have one more issue, when in documents and wish to move document to a folder. If I am require to scroll down to find a folder adobe closes on its own. Do you have any thoughts on this issue/

Creating ImageIcon from Image is very slow
Hi I have a program which reads a number of files which may contain (amongst other things) image data in various formats such as JPG.I read scale this down into an image object fine, and then I want to display a small version of it on screen so I put the scale dimage into an ImageIcon which i display later using a JLabel.
Anyway it runs very slow , the funny thing is using JProbe Ive tracked the problem down to creation of the ImageIcon constructor, the actual thumbnail image creation is very quick.
Why does ImageIcon take so long or is there a simple way of displaying the image in a Swing Application
without using JLabel.
BufferedImage bi = ImageIO.read(new DataInputStream(new ByteArrayInputStream(imageData)));
Image thumbnaiImage = image.getScaledInstance(20,20Image.SCALE_FAST);
ImageIcon thumbnail = new ImageIcon(thumbnailImage);If you're not too picky about the image quality (and I see you're using SCALE_FAST), you can set the
source subsampling on your ImageReadParam so that you never construct the large image: you start
with the thumbnail.

import java.awt.image.*;
import java.io.*;
import java.net.*;
import java.util.*;
import javax.imageio.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class AllThumbs {
public static void main(String[] args) throws MalformedURLException {
String prefix = "http://www3.us.porsche.com/english/usa/carreragt/modelinformation/experience/desktop/bilder/icon";
String suffix = "_800x600.jpg";
JPanel p = new JPanel(new GridLayout(0,3));
for(int i=1; i<9; ++i) {
try {
p.add(getThumb(new URL(prefix + i + suffix), 200, 150));
} catch (IOException e) {
System.out.println(e.getMessage());
JFrame f = new JFrame("AllThumbs");
f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
f.getContentPane().add(p);
f.pack();
f.setLocationRelativeTo(null);
f.setVisible(true);
public static JLabel getThumb(URL url, int maxWidth, int maxHeight) throws IOException {
String suffix = getSuffix(url);
Iterator readers = ImageIO.getImageReadersBySuffix(suffix);
if (!readers.hasNext())
throw new IOException("No reader for suffix " + suffix);
ImageReader reader = (ImageReader) readers.next();
reader.setInput(ImageIO.createImageInputStream(url.openStream()), true, true);
int w = reader.getWidth(0), h = reader.getHeight(0);
int subsampling = Math.max(1, Math.max(w/maxWidth, h/maxHeight));
ImageReadParam param = reader.getDefaultReadParam();
param.setSourceSubsampling(subsampling, subsampling, 0, 0);
BufferedImage image = reader.read(0, param);
String path = url.getPath();
String text = path.substring(1+path.lastIndexOf('/'));
JLabel label = new JLabel(text, new ImageIcon(image), SwingConstants.CENTER);
label.setHorizontalTextPosition(SwingConstants.CENTER);
label.setVerticalTextPosition(SwingConstants.BOTTOM);
label.setBorder(BorderFactory.createEmptyBorder(5,5,5,5));
return label;
public static String getSuffix(URL url) throws IOException {
String path = url.getPath();
int dot = path.lastIndexOf('.');
if (dot == -1)
throw new IOException("No . in " + path);
return path.substring(1+dot);
}It is also possible for there to be thumbnail images stored in an image file. (These thumbnails
don't even have to be related to the main image.) ImageIO has methods to read these directly,
so if you have control over your image files you can create them with thumbnails in place.
