.swf image comes out lighter than the source

I'm creating a simple animation in AE from a jpeg image. I bring up some text on the image. When I create the .swf file, the background that the text appears on is lighter than the original jpeg in the Safari browser. Since this animation "tiles" into the page with other jpegs sharing the same background image, the light background produced by the .swf stands out from the rest of the page.
This only seems to appear in the Safari browser under OSX. FireFox doesn't have this problem. However, since I need this to work across all browsers, I need to solve this issue.
If I make a .mov file instead of a .swf, it also appears lighter than the source.
In fact, if I simply take a jpeg image and create a 1 frame .swf from it, it comes out lighter than the original. I'm not doing anything to the image (as far as I know) that would make it lighter.
Any insight to what is causing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

It's ColorSync and how it is used throughout your system, even if only for on-screen Gamma correction. In so many words: There's nothing you can do about it but to reset your settings and turn it off wherever that is possible. Not on my Mac ATM and not using Safari anyways, but I'm reasonably certain there's an option for using the system color settings somewhere. Depending on how you process the JPEG you may also need to fiddle with the color settings for the Adobe suite. Flash itself is not color profiled, but it will respect embedded proviles by ways of its image loaders that it shares with Photoshop and al lthe other apps. Beyond that I wouldn't get too crazy over it: Color mismatches and shifting alignment are a natural bane of all web development, and even if you get it right on one machine, the next day another user will tell you that it looked crap on his machine in Konqueror on Linux.... More than anything else, webdesign is a matter of using the design to cheat around these limitations, unfortunately. Perhaps you can use a large background Flash file instead of the original JPEG and then put your HTML content onto a separate DIV layer...? ;-)

  • HT201361 Whenever I take a screenshot on my Macbook Pro, it always comes out bigger than the area I selected. How do I fix this??

I just got a Macbook Pro for Christmas, replacing my old 2008 one. On my old one, I was able to screen grab (shift+command+F4) specific area sizes (like 500x500 area) and the picture it would export would also be 500x500. On this new Mac, the areas I screen grab are exported larger than they are when I take them. For instance, I'd take a screen grab of a 500x500 picture I drew, upload it to an image sharing website, and it would appear nearly double that size.
I've tried altering my display to see if that helps, but they always are bigger than what I grab.
    Any help would be great.

To anyone who may have this problem, I figured it out. Retina display makes it bigger than it actually is. To fix this, after each screenshot, open up the image in preview. There will be a little toolbox option, and within that a box with arrows in it. Set the dimensions to 50 rather than 100 and it should be good to go.

  • HP C410 - The pics that I print come out darker than the one on the screen. Why is this?

I ahve a HP Photosmart C410.  When ever I print pictures they are printed darker than they appear on the PC screen.
    How can I correct this??

You're right - by default the PDF will be created at the same size as your selected paper size at the time you create the PDF.
The simplest workaround should be to just create a custom paper size - in File -> Print, look for the Page Size popup which should list every paper size supported by your printer. At the bottom is a 'Custom Size...' option that lets you create custom paper sizes, including your 11 x 17" size, even though that's bigger than your printer supports.
Select this custom size the next time you print to PDF and you should be OK.

  • Quicktime comes out light

Just use Share to make a Quicktime version. It comes out lighter than the "original" in FCP7; the darks are just not as dark as I color corrected them to be.
Did I do something wrong? Can I get the QT version to faithfully reproduce the original?
I used the Share feature in FCP and selected the QuickTime H.264 setting. Here is the result: http://www.vimeo.com/8394836 (the judderyness comes from Vimeo; the OT plays smoothly on my Mac)

Nick, you aced it. I set the preference as you suggested and it QT now reproduces the coloration I saw in FCP.
I use FCP on a 30" Apple Cinema display. Do I need a separate monitor to accurately view colors of my work? (I hope not as printers and the 30" fills my desk leaving little spare room). Does that monitor benefit from calibrating? Most of my audience views my work on their Macs and PCs.
The footage was shot on an EX1 if that helps.

  • External projection much darker than the source

I am using a mini displayport to vga adapter and the external image is much darker than the source running on my mbp. this is going into a mixer then out to a projector. I also have an old pre intel powerbook that is doing the same thing(into a mixer and out to a projector) with s-video , with no problems at all.
this is a recent problem with the mbp,6 months ago it worked fine.
could it be the new os? if so how do i get back to the one i need?

I am having the same problem with my brand new MacBook Pro connecting to a video projector with a Mini-display to VGA connector. Many of the pictures are darker
than they should be. In PowerPoint I had to go to those darker slides and lighten them up (brightness up and contrast down). Now they are tolerable, but they still look better on the Mac screen than the projected image. Have tried three different projectors and find the same result. Projected colors are quite a bit different also. Puzzeled in Pennsylvania

    Gmabert-
The front camera displays a reversed image on the screen, as if you were looking into a mirror.  When you take a picture, it comes out normal, which is backwards to what you would have observed on the screen.

  • Prints always come out darker than in lightroom

I have a iMac, keep my screen calibrated using x-rite. I have found that all my prints come out darker than what I am seeing on screen. It almost seems like when I export a RAW file to JPG in lightroom it converts it to a denser image. As if it were taking 1/3 of the exposure out. I have done experiments with my own printer at home, as well as with two different labs here. I have downloaded the icc profiles of the different labs and have used PS4 to preview my images. There is no comparison and I can not see what step I might be missing to complete the process from image on screen to image on paper. Any help?? Thanks.

True, I have seen a difference in the density of the prints from the lab and from my home printer and it is possible that I have used the printer settings in lightroom incorrectly. It is interesting that the prints from the lab are much denser than what I see on my screen. I loose overall brightness and detail in the shadows. It seems like my colors are correct but with the loss of brightness it is hard to tell exactly. It almost seems to me as if somehow the conversion that lightroom does has something to do with how it is interpreted by the lab printer. The first test I did was to use the printer wizard (I have a cheapie epson home printer, epson stylus 405) just to see what would happen. My print came out EXACTLY as I see it on screen. That is what is my challenge. I can attach a file if it would help. THanks for all your responses.

I just noticed that the left top corner of the screen is lighter than the rest of the screen. I have turned off the phone but not sure what to do next. Any suggestions? Shall I just take for repair?

  • How do I get an image which is larger than the page to scroll?

I am new to CSS and CS4 and my problem relates to a gif image which is larger than the page.I cannot get the image to scroll either vertically or horozontally. This image is of a family tree graph and I cannot reduce it's size any more otherwise it would not be ledgeable. I want the image to scroll vertically underneath the fixed header. I am using a twoColHybLtHdr template. Also when I have corrected this problem will the CSS then apply to all further pages and could that cause other problems?
    Thanks in anticipation

Thank you for your advice. I have been adjusting the CSS settings in the Container and the Main Content. I have now achieved both scroll bars, that cover all pages. The problem I have now is getting the Bottom (horizontal) scroll bar onto the bottom of the browser window. If I set the height as auto or inherit then the scroll bar stays at the bottom of the page, so you have to scroll down to find it. I can set the height in px and this is fine for one window resolution but it doesn't automatically reposition for the various different resolutions, is this possible to achieve? Can anyone please help me resolve this last obstacle

  • Is there a way to zoom out further than the website's width?

Especially in android browsers some websites have really big fonts etc. so that very few content can be shown on the screen without scrolling around. To get a better overview of the site, is it in any way possible to zoom out further than the width of a web page? I can pinch zoom out further than the site's width but it will zoom back in again as soon as i let go of the screen.
The only alternative at the moment is to rotate the tablet vertically, because then, when zooming out to the site's width, it is of course displayed a lot smaller.
I really wonder that there's not more people that find the inability to zoom out really annoying. okay, android made its start with smartphones where the main focus is zooming in, but still...we got 2k displays in our 10inch tablets and we make no use of that resolution at all...

I'm afraid that this isn't currently possible.
There are a number of desktop Firefox add-ons that will allow default zoom out options. For example [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/ Deafult FullZoom Level]. It might be worth asking if they plan to bring their add-on to Firefox for Android.
    I hope that helps.
