Switch desktop hangs system for 10-15 secs

I just upgraded to OSX Mavericks and I see that when i switch desktops quite often the system stops taking in any input (mouse and keyboard) for 10-15 secs as if the entire system hangs.. It recovers then. This was never the case with OSX mountain lion. Is this a known issue?

  • Adobe Flashplayer makes videos hang intermitantly for around 30 secs and makes moxilla minimise..Help

    hi all
i have tried uninstalling flashplayer to an older version 10.6. I am using mozilla 19 currently. Have also tried acceleration tick button in options, also tried unistalling mozilla but all to no avail. Whenever i watch a video playback or sometimes add multiple tabs the adobe creates a hang which stalls mozilla and also makes it minimise to the toolbar. Around 30 secs later it then pops bak up ok again. It is then ok to use but doesnt it intermitantly regular as clockwork. How do i fix it?

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

  • Add-ons ask to install every, when I switch ON my system

I'm using Firefox latest version and I have installed some add-ons.
when I switch On my system for the first time and open my browser it again ask me to install that add-ons (it did not happen when I hibernate or put my system in sleep).

You can check for problems with preferences and try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also try to delete the addons.sqlite file.

  • Looking for a remote desktop management system

    Hello,
I am looking for a remote desktop management system which should be very user-friendly. We would prefer a open-source software for that for further customization. I have found Paragent software which seems to be looking good so far, any suggestions regarding this would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    hi,
i wanted to resize my windows partition. I was thinking of using the default backup system for windows. Then switching to mac partion, deleting the bootcamp and then restoring a new enlarged partition from the backup. Is this possible?

I see youhave gotten recommendatons for using WinClone or CampTune.  I have used both and they both work well.
You have asked about using the WIndows 7 utility to backup your drive and restor it onto a larger partition.  I will tell you fro experience that this will probably not do what you want, and may do something that you don't want.  You can use the Windows 7 native backup tool to make a backup of your Windows 7 partition.  It will most liekly end-up making a dive image of the whole drive.  When yourestore that backup, it will try to re-create teh partitions of exactly the same size as they were when the backup was taken, so it won't increase your partition size for you.  Worse, since Windows doesn't natively know how to read./write HFS+ volumes, the backup will make a partition for your MacOS (replacing any you may have now), except that the copy restored by WIndows will be totally worthless, and you will not be able to boot MacOS from it, or even read it under MacOS.
Now I will tell you that I've also had some fairly good success working with the free tool CloneZilla.  Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, and everything else mentioned does cost you money, I thought I would throw it out.  CloneZilla is not as easy to use as the tools mentioned, but it has worked for me int hte past, so it is something to consider.  I tend to use CampTune myself, but that was because I purchased a bundle deal for them and it was included in that deal.

  • What is the best soft wear update for a mac desktop with   System Version:     Mac OS X 10.5.8

What is the best soft wear update for a mac desktop with   System Version:
    Mac OS X 10.5.8

It will depend on the actual model you have.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99 while Mavericks is free. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion or Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Do I still need to use the old mobile me backup system for backing up a mac desktop and if I delete it will it affect the memory of my system which has now Maverics

Do I still need to use the old mobile me backup system for backing up all my data and having it able to get at in case of a crash, or can the icloud reset everything? Because I can not find any structured refrence, as to how it would be done. I am updated to Maverics. Also does the icloud continue if I uninstall the backup to free up space?

MobileMe was discontinued in 2012 and all the data stored on it was deleted, and iCloud can't make backups of Macs.
What I recommend you to make backups is to get an external drive and use Time Machine or an application like Carbon Copy Cloner. With this, you can access to your data everywhere and safely, and then, if you want, use a cloud storage service like CrashPlan. You can keep on using iCloud without backups

  • Menu bar reloading when switching desktops

My Menu bar is reloading everytime I switch desktops.
It blinks off, then loads up each icon agin in order.
    It is quite distracting.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process ("SystemUIServer") in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • External Trackpad won't switch desktops on MacBook Pro

I have a 13-inch MacBook Pro and I recently purchased a standalone wireless keyboard and trackpad. The trackpad performs all of the gestures correctly, except for the four-finger swipe to switch between desktops. The built-in trackpad performs the four-finger swipe perfectly fine. I checked the System Preferences for the trackpad, but it looks like there's only one set of preferences for all trackpads.
My wife has a similar setup with her new iMac and she doesn't have the problem. Both trackpads switch desktops with a four-finger swipe. Weird, eh?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that the issue might be that there is no boot0 in /usr/standalone/i386. I have had similar issues lately when trying to make a bootable usb memory. I think this is necessary for the legacy option in the bless utility. If some one have a solution for this I would like to know as well.

  • Desktop ETS systems

    Hi All,
Would anyone who cares to post the specifications (brand, form factor, speed, any trick to use to get it going) for their Desktop ETS systems?
Frequently people struggle with finding a compatible target, but if we chip in we can give our colleagues a starting point. If you remember, list how long ago you prurchased the target hardware.
This is only for Desktop ETS systems, as described here: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/4480

    Hello,
Customer experience issues with a industrial PC that uses a motherboard from Rocky based on the Intel 865GV chipset. Another customer reported issues running RT on a motherboard using the very same chipset and the manufacturer were Rocky once again.
More detailed information from the customer on what they have done and what kind of motherboard they are using:
“I've attached the datasheet for the CPU board we're using (an IEI ROCKY-4786EVG-RS-R40 industrial PC), which gives all the information you should require.  It's being used with a 2.8GHz Pentium 4, 2 GBytes DDR400 SDRAM, 2 x 500GByte PATA hard disks (one FAT32 which we plan to use with RT, one NTFS which we planned to use with Windows, but only very occasionally), NI PCI CAN XS2 board and a number of other peripheral boards, all made by NI, apart from two North Atlantic PCI-76CS1 resolver to digital converter cards which are crucial to the operation of the system.
To crash the system it is enough just to start the LabView RT, then switch off the PC while RT is running. Starting up after this always results in the system remaining dead (fans and PSU LED's on OK, but no POST beeps, no video output, no indication that the CPU is actually running).  It doesn't matter whether we have executed any RT applications or not, the result is the same.
    We have found two workarounds:
    •          If we press the hardware reset button and then switch off power to the PC a second or so later, usually it will come back to life when powered up again afterwards.
    •          Also unplugging and re-plugging the main 220V power cable will usually bring the system back to life
However, these do not always work, and then we have major problems in restarting and this is of course the nightmare, and why we need to fix the problem.”
    What they have done:
    ·         Both motherboard LANs are disabled and we are using a PCI LAN card using the Intel PRO/100 S chipset.
    ·         USB legacy support is disabled
    ·         Serial support is disabled.
    ·         Parallel support is disabled.

  • Software Update Point Switching is not working for some Clients

    Hi there,
I found nothing similar here and I hope this is the right section.
I´m running ConfigMgr 2012 R2 where one of the Site Systems from one of the Primaries is located in an untrusted Forest in a perimeter Network. The Site System there has the MP, SUP and DB Roles. In general it works great. The Systems in that untrusted Forest
get the SCCM Agent pushed, see and can install published Software packages and receive Windows Updates. But there are a few systems where everything works, except Windows Updates.
So I had a deeper look at what is happening and found out that the SUP switching is not working for them. They always try to contact the SUP from the Primary, which they cannot reach (this is intended).
From how I understand SUP switching as described here
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2013/03/27/software-update-points-in-cm2012sp1.aspx#pi140062=1
the Windows Update Agent tries to connect to a SUP every 30 minutes and after 4 failed attempts he will try to connect to the next one until he finds one which works.
As I said before, this seems to work for most systems in the untrusted forest, but some do not make any intentions to switch the SUP.
So my next step was to find out from where the Update Agent can get the information of the available SUPs. I think they either don´t receive the information that other SUPs exist, or if the Information is there, they don´t realize that there´s an error and
    make no attempt to switch.
I used the System Center Support Center to gather all Information from some of the systems with that problems (Log Files, WMI information, registry information, policies etc.) but I cannot find where SCCM or the Update Agent store the information which SUPs
    are available in my environment.
I´m sure the problem is on the Systems which fail to connect to the right SUP and not in the SCCM infrastructure itself, because for most of the systems everything is working just perfect. Unfortunately in the Blog Post above there´s also no information
where this information is stored and how it is obtained by the clients. In the comments there´s even one post which describes the same problem I have here, but there was no answer. I hope someone can point me into the right direction, because I´m stuck currently.
Things I tried additionally to all the log file / WMI / registry sniffing:
Removing the Software Distribution Folder and restarting the Windows Update Agent
Removing the WindowsUpdate Registry folder in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Windows section in the Registry and restarting the Windows Update Agent.
Tried to reset the WUAgent with wuauclt /Resetauthorization additionally to the steps above.
I also tried to manually set the WUServer and WUStatusServer Keys in the registry to the new Server, but as soon as the next Update Scan cycle runs, the value is set back to the URL of the Primary Sites SUP
Is someone having additional ideas? It seems to me older systems are more affected (which were configured for a standard WSUS before SCCM 2012 was deployed) than newer ones which were installed when SCCM was in place already. But I don´t know what else to
"reset" on those machines without reinstalling them.

Thank you very much for your response. I must have missed that one by looking through numerous Logfiles. In this, there´s indeed a list of all available SUPs. So according to the LocationServices.log the machine should have a choice.
The WMI Key however, contains just one entry and this is the URL of the Primaries SUP which is not reachable in the untrusted forest. Is it OK that the WMI entry includes only one entry? If yes, what process is putting the results from the LocationServices
into WMI? It seems like the Windows Update Agent is feeded from the WMI Key then. If this is the case my problems seems to be the "communication path" between these two components.
Is this the job from the SCCM Agent, the Windows Update Agent or maybe some third component I´m not aware of? I wonder how I can fix this.

  • Remote Desktop Monitoring System

I am having some porblem regarding my project on Remote Desktop Monitoring System.
The project is supposed to have the following features:
1.Monitor and Control the computer in a network
    2.Send Instant Message
    3.File Transfer
We are having porblem on Networking ,Please supply us with the code or description on how to connect computers using Java so we can check on ours....

Remote Desktop Monitoring System is supposed to be a fully java based project. As the name suggests, the project should be able to view the computers(active screens) on the network and perform some specified tasks.
It also should have features like Instant messaging and File transferring between the connected computers.
(It is similar to the available software in Windows XP which helps us to monitor and contorl othe computers in the network)
-In order to connect to each other, the computer should have Remote
Desktop Monitoring Systems Server software or Client software installed in it.
-The main objective of this project is to build that Server and Client software with which we can perform the specified tasks.
-We are using NetBeans to develop the project and MySQL to handle some user datas.
-We have finished the Front End forms for the project and are finding difficulties in networking using java.(since we are students new to java)
I hope the above explanation clears some queries about the project. If anything is not clear please post on this forum and help us.
So if anybody has similar type of project or and concept regarding how to create the Client and Server side software as mentioned above please help us.

My MacBookPro (mid 2012) will not complete the boot process. Yosemite's progress widget gets about 1/3 to 1/2 way across when the logo disappears and the screen goes all white for 10-15 secs, then the machine shuts down and restarts. This sequence will repeat seemingly forever unless I shut it down manually.
I upgraded to Yosemite from Mountain Lion a couple months ago, skipping Maverick completely, and I've done any associated updates that Apple told me about. I don't recall which version of Yosemite I have, but I'm sure it is the "latest and greatest".
I've tried re-starting in Safe Mode / Safe Boot and that does the same thing as described above except without the endless restarts. Instead of restarting at some point, SafeBoot proceeds to the white screen and then it hangs until I restart it manually. (I've waited as long os 20-30 minutes with no response).
When I tried the option-command-p-r key combo I never get any chimes or other noises besides the original 1 time boot sound that you would expect to get when starting up a macbook pro.
I was using the mac quite normally (meaning I was doing work I normally do on it and there was no indication of anything wrong) immediately prior to this happening.
The machine is BootCamp(ed) with Windows 8.1 which I use from a VMWare virtual machine instead of natively so that I can have both OSes running at the same time. I also think this is unrelated to my problem. I have been using this setup for more than 2 years.
My upgrade to Yosemite was uneventful and I thought it went well and was very smooth. I don't want to lead attention away from Yosemite, but at this point my problem does not seem related to the upgrade.
    Any help is appreciated.

Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
